00:05it wasn't just a missing woman it's a missing woman with a two-week-old baby they were able
00:13to confirm her whereabouts that morning but anything past that was a huge mystery my first
00:18thought was what did he do to her what has he done when people become obsessed they can escalate to
00:25murder every one of her friends are possible suspects police have a very small window of
00:32opportunity before something really bad could happen the smell of decomposing flesh is coming
00:39from the trunk of the car no one would have expected this kind of an outcome this is not a
00:45crime of passion there was something that was thought out deliberately to lie for nine months
00:51it's ruthless it's calculated it's evil to plan this it's disturbing it's insanity
01:15Austin is the capital of Texas it's a very safe city compared to other major metropolitan cities
01:21and really the crime problem there is more of lesser crimes petty crimes misdemeanors
01:31but on December 12 2019 a patrol officer takes a missing person report someone named Shane
01:39Kerry calls the Austin Police Department and let him know that his fiancee and his baby who
01:45was two and a half weeks old they're missing that right away is going to send this to another level
01:50of concern so they immediately call for the on-duty detective in the missing persons unit
01:57when investigators arrived on scene they meet Shane who had called the police that night and
02:02he said his fiancee Heidi Broussard was a 33 year old beautiful mother of two they had a son Silas
02:10he's six
02:10years old and a precious little baby girl who was two and a half weeks old named Margo their son
02:16Silas
02:17was home with Shane only Heidi and newborn Margo they're missing what's really important in missing
02:24people cases is when's the last time the person was seen you always start to search there so Shane laid
02:31out
02:31the timeline he told investigators that day started out like most normal days Shane got up about 6 a.m.
02:42and he got ready for work and he left for work about 6 30. Heidi ended up getting up with
02:46both kids and
02:46was getting Silas ready to go to school that morning Heidi called him at 8 30 that morning after leaving
02:52the school she said she had dropped off their son that's the last time that Shane spoke to Heidi Shane
03:01gets back to his apartment about 2 30 after he's done working for the day Shane finds the apartment
03:08completely empty no Heidi no baby he initially thought maybe she had just taken the baby and was
03:16visiting somebody in the apartment complex so he starts looking around and he notices her vehicle in
03:23the apartment complex ends up going to her vehicle and finding it unlocked inside is her purse her wallet
03:30and a few other items that Heidi would never leave behind one thing missing was her cell phone Shane
03:39told us he called Heidi gets nothing but then he realizes hey I better get to the elementary school
03:46to pick up my son Shane he said he goes to the elementary school he picks up his son goes
03:53back
03:53home Heidi does not show up he started to be concerned on why was she not showing up this is
04:03unlike her what happened so he's calling her repeatedly and her phone is just going to voicemail
04:11then he starts making phone calls to her friends her family he calls Rachel one of Heidi's co-workers
04:18and Megan one of Heidi's best friends nobody has had any contact with her so he tries her cell phone
04:27again nothing so Shane said at that point in time and about 7 30 it was really getting concerned
04:34so he called the Austin Police Department to report her as missing
04:41Heidi's case was different it wasn't just a missing woman it's a missing woman with a two-week
04:47old baby police really stepped into action because of the age of the baby the urgency of finding this
04:53newborn as investigators search in the apartment there's no forced entry in the apartment there's no
05:00signs of struggle in the apartment there was nothing out of place there was nothing you know thrown
05:06around the room everything was seemingly normal they didn't find any forensic evidence that a crime had
05:12been committed there but one of the things that concerned investigators was that Shane said that the
05:22baby was having some issues with taking food and there had to be a formula mixture with breast milk the
05:29diaper bag special food are still in the apartment baby Margo had health complications from birth she had
05:37jaundice so Heidi would have taken this special formula that Margo needed she knows better than to
05:42leave all of that behind what woman takes a two-week-old baby without food without diapers without her purse
05:51police would certainly consider the possibility that since she had so recently given birth there
05:56could be a postpartum complication is she depressed is she suicidal a lot of moms do go through postpartum
06:04depression right after having a child but Shane told investigators that Heidi was in a really good
06:09place she didn't suffer from postpartum and she was doing really well after the birth of Margo at
06:15this point we think this is a legitimate kidnapping of a woman and a baby so Austin police and their
06:22detectives immediately do a neighborhood canvas of the apartment complex to see if anyone had seen
06:27anything noticed anything strange but people saw nothing and the apartment complex didn't have cameras
06:37at that point in time we did what's called a reverse 9-1-1 where the 9-1-1 system
06:43actually calls every
06:45telephone number in a specific geographic area to alert them that someone is missing a baby's missing and
06:53there was a press conference and Heidi just having a baby it really grabbed our attention Heidi and Margo were
07:01last seen on Thursday December 12th here in Austin Texas Heidi is a 33 year old white female she stands
07:085 foot 3 150 pounds if you see Heidi or Margo please contact the Austin Police Department or your local
07:14law
07:14enforcement agency young mother suddenly goes missing very young baby missing with her the police are
07:24concerned about foul play the reality is that Heidi Broussard was an attractive young woman with a small child she
07:34would be a very vulnerable victim if somebody were looking for one an eyewitness saw Heidi and baby Margo getting
07:42inside of a vehicle the address was given out when the raid was announced and oh my god that was
07:49when all hell broke loose
08:01Heidi Broussard and her little baby girl who was two and a half weeks old named Margo they're missing
08:06and the reverse 9-1-1 search called out about 4,000 of the neighbors but no leads were found
08:15the next day on the 13th the Austin police detective started talking to immediate family and Heidi's friends
08:25my friend Rachel she called me and told me that Heidi was missing I was just like what do you
08:30mean
08:31she's missing I don't think your brain processes what's really going on but when I was told that she
08:37never picked Silas up from school I knew that something was wrong your mind goes to the unanswered
08:44questions is she being taken care of is the baby being taken care of is she being fed are they
08:51cold
08:51you know are they alone you just you don't know investigators want to know all the details about
09:02Heidi who was she did she have any mental illness is there trouble at home that led them to leave
09:10I told the police Heidi I told the police Heidi rocked being a mom she truly rocked it her kids
09:17were
09:17everything to her she would absolutely never leave Silas and me knowing the turmoil that her and Shane
09:28had been in previously my first thought was what did he do to her what has he done
09:36in my experience the largest majority of the time when things like this happen it's going to be the
09:42spouse the fiance the boyfriend someone who is close to the victim so of course the police are going to
09:48look at Shane first we grew up in Lake Charles Louisiana when Heidi was in her mid-20s she worked
09:59at the
09:59casino for a while living her best life she was a cocktail I just and had met Shane there and
10:05fell in love
10:10they had one of those relationships it was a little tumultuous it was back and forth but pretty early
10:15on she found out she was pregnant of course the way we were raised her getting pregnant out of quote
10:23unquote wedlock was definitely not the way you want to tell your family but she always wanted to be a
10:30mom
10:30they moved to Austin right before Silas was born and they had Silas and nothing else mattered they were
10:39together eight years but unfortunately her and Shane had broke up a lot she told me about abuse whether
10:47it's financial emotional mental but we all thought she knows when enough is enough and the last breakup
10:56that was it that was going to be it but then early that year she found out she was pregnant
11:03with Margo
11:05and she told me she wanted to give it another shot because she wanted her family she wanted the unit
11:11and
11:12she wanted her kids to have that come hell or high water she was going to make her family work
11:18it's not unreasonable to wonder if something had re-emerged from the previous conflicts that
11:25they had had that was now creating strife in their relationship again
11:32next Shane was brought into Austin Police Department to do a real formal in-depth interview
11:38through the course of the interviews with Shane it was obvious there were some troubles in the
11:43relationship but it's natural to have troubles in relationships Shane told the police that him
11:48and Heidi were in a good place and tells them there was never any physical abuse and the last time
11:55he
11:55spoke with her was the day she went missing she was just leaving Silas at school she told him what
12:01she
12:02did at the school and that she ended up getting three books for Silas and she was really excited to
12:06be able to read to him that night so while they continue speaking with Shane investigators need
12:12to verify when Heidi had last been seen Austin Police go through the surveillance from her son's
12:19school and they find footage of her dropping off her son for school she ends up getting caught on the
12:25camera at about 8 12 that morning Heidi Broussard was last seen in this image released by Austin Police
12:32smiling and wearing a purple sweatshirt her assumption is that they're alive and the sooner
12:38that we can find them the better so they were able to confirm her whereabouts that morning but
12:43anything past that was a huge mystery now investigators need to find out from Shane where he was does he
12:52have
12:53an alibi in this case Shane said he was at work his boss confirmed that he was at work all
12:59day as he was
13:00supposed to be so there was nothing atypical about his day Shane was very helpful he gave
13:07the police his cell phone we could see when she called him that he had fact had talked to her
13:12on
13:12December 12th he had already let them search in the apartment he let them look at the car so there
13:18was
13:18nothing he was holding back his alibis checking out also looking into Shane there was nothing that
13:25popped up that said there was any domestic violence that there were any police calls for service at the
13:31address as far as law enforcement was concerned he was not part of Heidi being missing so at this point
13:39the police have very little to go on because this child is so young just a few weeks old has
13:47some
13:47medical complications and just needs basic needs taken care of investigators have a very small window of
13:53opportunity before something really bad could happen so I called the chief of the Austin Police
13:59Department and said hey the FBI has a lot of resources we can bring we have the card team a
14:07group of
14:07investigators intelligence analysts technicians that focus on child abductions one of the things we
14:15brought to bear in this particular case is something called the FBI's child abduction rapid deployment team
14:21that we deploy at the request of our state and local partners whenever a child is abducted
14:27our investigators move out very quickly to start looking very aggressively where could she be where
14:34could this baby be we need to find Heidi and her new baby as soon as possible
14:47Heidi and her new baby have been missing for a number of days the FBI card team start looking hard
14:54for
14:54Heidi after they speak with him on December 13th investigators moved on from Shane the next step once
15:03you rule out a spouse or a partner as you start to look at every one of her acquaintances her
15:08family
15:09neighbors everyone she worked with and you really have to start digging in on all of those people as
15:16possible suspects investigators learned that Heidi was very bubbly very social and very outgoing she was
15:27someone who had a lot of friends and she was like the go-to of the group I told the
15:33police Heidi loves
15:34everybody she takes everybody in she didn't see the red flags and people they said she was very loyal I
15:42mean her friends date back from when she was a teen me Rachel and Heidi we were just best friends
15:48and we go to
15:49church camp every year we met Megan and Caressa at church camp in Columbus Texas Heidi and them became
15:58good friends and they've always kept in touch it's kind of funny when Heidi got pregnant with Silas we
16:07were pregnant at the same time I was pregnant with my second one and she was pregnant with her first
16:12and
16:12you know she was so excited we were both having boys and when Heidi had gotten pregnant with Margo
16:19her best friend Megan was having a baby too and they were excited to be pregnant together and just to
16:28have the same due date Heidi was always the cheerleader when she loved you she loved you and she never
16:35let
16:35you go no matter where anybody lived you know she was always the lifeline that kept everybody together
16:45so when Heidi went missing I thought it was either Shane or definitely a stranger because none of Heidi's
16:53friends would hurt Heidi I know it's Shane I know he did it I know it's him it's got to
17:01be like who else
17:01would it be even though investigators were able to confirm Shane's alibi Heidi's friends still were
17:12kind of side-eyeing Shane just because they knew Heidi and Shane had a toxic relationship there was a lot
17:19of speculation around him so I wanted to put together a search team I was like we need to go
17:25find her
17:32I became involved in this case when Heidi's loved ones called EquiSearch because of her disappearance
17:41that search is involved in volunteer search efforts we don't charge a nickel we'll be part of a search and
17:49helping families we're not part of an investigation but many times we've given them information that's led to
17:58some pretty good results I remember talking to Heidi's friends and other family members I talked to a very
18:08close friend her name was Megan she was telling me the stories about Heidi and Shane they were having
18:17some problems and she says knowing what I know about that relationship it wouldn't surprise me if Shane did
18:25something to her and I said he really feels oh he's capable the Megan said he's more than capable she
18:35pointed 100 percent to Shane when we started that search in Austin area I met with Shane met with
18:45Shane's dad there was many many volunteers that wanted to get involved so we put together some ATVs and
18:54some foot searchers here in Austin there's a lot of different terrain that you go looking through you
18:59have Zilker Park you have all the green belts you have natural waterways I actually marked spots on maps
19:07that she possibly could have walked to or she possibly could have taken a cab too Shane and I spent
19:15a lot of time
19:16together driving around kind of looking at different areas everybody reacts different you know but I never
19:24heard his voice sound like he was gonna break down and cry his demeanor just wasn't at all what I
19:32thought that
19:32it should have been it seemed strange to say the least Wow we were looking for her we were all
19:44talking
19:45trying to keep up to date with everything but there was no trace I was just like well will this
19:51ever be
19:51solved because it didn't feel like they were getting anywhere there were some calls that came in with possible
19:58sightings but none of them ended up be really credible after some of the search efforts that
20:05we did we haven't found anything we don't have anywhere else to go so next an emergency order was filed
20:18with
20:18Heidi's cell phone company to see was the phone hitting we call it pinging was the cell phone active and
20:24hitting somewhere that request went through and it came back that her phone was either off or at a
20:29battery and it had not pinged anywhere since pinging at the house on December 12th the day that Heidi
20:36disappears so he started canvassing through the neighborhood again because a lot of times what you
20:42find is people see things that they don't know are important until you really jog their brain this time
20:50one witness described a four-door sedan of a light color that she saw go around towards the back where
21:00Heidi's apartment was then another neighbor actually remembered seeing somebody with the description of
21:06Heidi and Margo getting inside of a similar vehicle so we're starting to get a little bit more of a
21:13picture of the last time anyone had seen Heidi but when people are missing you're going down different
21:18investigative avenues at the same time as we interviewed more of Heidi's friends a couple of
21:24people told us that one of Heidi's friends acted odd during the delivery of Heidi's baby so investigators go to
21:33the
21:33hospital and interview delivery staff the nurse remembered right after Heidi gave birth to Margo most of the
21:41family got to hold the baby well Shane's dad was ready to hold the baby and Heidi's friend stepped in
21:47and said hold on and
21:48aggressively took the baby from him she acts very possessive with the baby acts very strange
21:54in general and literally takes the baby from the grandfather because she wants to hold the baby
22:02once we got that story of what happened in the maternity room our behavioral analysis people right away said hey
22:10we really got to look at this this could possibly be a maternal desire type situation
22:17maternal desire is a mental state where a woman has an unsatiable drive to acquire a child that's why maternity
22:27rooms are so locked down because unfortunately there's been a number of instances where people have gotten in there and
22:34stolen a baby
22:36when we heard how Heidi's friend acted with the baby it made us very suspicious about her mental state now
22:47we have a suspicious person our investigators from the card team said we got to go hard on this we
22:54need to figure out who is this woman and where could she be
23:07the police had talked to the hospital staff where Heidi gave birth to baby Margo the nurses remember one of
23:17Heidi's good friends was acting super possessive over Margo right after she was born
23:23police were concerned about the possibility of maternal desire which can turn into something that is not altogether different from
23:32what I would call delusional this baby's mind I need this baby I must have it when people get into
23:41that sort of delusional or semi delusional world reality doesn't matter anymore
23:48and when people become obsessed and that divorced from reality it can escalate to extreme violence it can escalate to
23:57murder
23:58so investigators decided to take this very seriously right from the beginning
24:03so investigators asked Shane who in fact was in the hospital room when Heidi was delivering Margo and he mentioned
24:11Megan
24:12Megan Humphrey which was one of her closest friends
24:17once we identify Megan as the woman in the maternity ward with the strange behavior we start going back and
24:23re-interviewing people to say what can you tell us about her
24:27what's her timeline and any of these other pieces we have could it fit back to her
24:38so Heidi's friends told investigators that Megan lived in Houston but they still kept in touch
24:43Megan was one of Heidi's best friends since their early teens
24:47but while Heidi and Megan were really close friends most of Heidi's friends didn't really love Megan
24:53when Heidi introduced us
24:55unfortunately I got a bad vibe from Megan
24:59I didn't like her right away but Heidi's heart was so pure
25:05she loved everybody so I mean she's been friends with her for many many years
25:10according to her friends they just thought Megan was a little weird didn't really click with her
25:15could give or take her but Heidi was you know the embracer
25:23through the course of re-interviews asking about Megan we find out Megan announced she's pregnant
25:29not long after Heidi announced she was pregnant
25:32when she was told about the pregnancy Megan was like we're gonna be pregnant together
25:38November 26th the day that Margo was born Megan came down to Austin
25:44Megan Megan was about 37 weeks pregnant at this time
25:49Heidi's friends told police it was remarkable that she had driven about three hours from Houston to Austin
25:57to be present for the birth of baby Margo
26:00and just a few weeks later on December the 8th or the 9th
26:05she tells everyone she gave birth to her own baby named Luna
26:11investigators asked her friends did you see a picture of the baby
26:15have you seen this baby
26:17and all of them said
26:18I haven't seen a picture of her
26:21wow
26:22you're a new mom
26:24you're proud of this baby
26:25and you haven't shown a picture
26:28so that was very quickly looked at
26:32but there's no evidence that she had a baby at all
26:35and she really starts rising on the list of suspects
26:40you start doing research
26:41and now things start to click
26:43she actually has a four door light colored sedan
26:47like the car that somebody saw Heidi and the baby get into in the parking lot
26:52when they went missing
26:54investigators start looking into all the red light cameras in the area
26:58as well as license plate readers
27:00and there are license plate readers showing her in the area the day that Heidi disappears
27:05also after her cell phone records were retrieved
27:09her phone had been pinged that day on different cell phone towers that were located near Heidi's apartment
27:15so now at this point investigators put together a line up of multiple people and Megan Humphrey
27:21and take this line up back to the neighbor for an eyewitness account
27:25when they showed her Megan Humphrey
27:27the neighbor actually said
27:29this person is the person that she saw Heidi and Margo getting in the vehicle with
27:34on the morning of their disappearance
27:42obviously she is now suspect number one
27:45in this case is she going to harm the baby
27:47is she going to run
27:47is she going to do something
27:49you don't always want to do an interview right away
27:51because obviously the minute you do an interview
27:54they know that they're a suspect
27:55and we are very concerned
27:58for the safety of the child
28:00so the decision was
28:02let's put a surveillance team all around the house
28:04in Houston
28:05to see is there any sign of Heidi
28:09a baby
28:10anything strange
28:12the Texas Rangers were called in to assist them
28:15with the surveillance on
28:16Megan's house in Houston, Texas
28:19we see her car in the backyard
28:22it fits the four-door light-colored sedan
28:25that one witness described to us
28:28at a point during the surveillance
28:30a man leaves the house
28:32let's follow him see who he is
28:34where's he going
28:34he goes to target
28:37where he is observed buying baby supplies
28:40the Texas Rangers make the decision
28:43hey this is a life safety issue
28:45we're concerned about the health of the baby
28:47we're going to intervene right now
28:49so the Texas Rangers grab him in the parking lot
28:52they start asking him questions
28:55he identified himself as Christopher Green
28:58they find out this is Megan's ex-boyfriend
29:01whom she lives with
29:02they asked him if he had a newborn child
29:04and he said he did
29:05and they told him
29:06we're looking into why Heidi
29:07as well as her child are missing
29:09and they show him a picture of baby Margo
29:12and he said that's my baby
29:15that's my baby at home
29:24investigators stopped Christopher Green
29:26Megan's ex-boyfriend
29:28whom she lives with
29:29after he leaves target
29:30he had a bunch of baby items
29:32he says why I'm buying this stuff
29:34because my girlfriend had a baby
29:36but the Texas Rangers show him a picture
29:40of the missing baby
29:41and he says that's the baby that's at my house
29:45and then they ask him
29:47if he was present at the birth
29:51Christopher Green told investigators
29:53that he's an oil field worker
29:55when he arrived home from a work trip
29:57on December 13th
29:59his ex-girlfriend Megan
30:00had given birth
30:01a few days before that
30:03while he was gone
30:04he said well why didn't you call me
30:06she's like please don't be angry
30:08but I ended up having the baby
30:10at a birthing center
30:12obviously if you're the father of a baby
30:14it's very surprising that you were not present
30:16when the baby was born
30:17the whole story doesn't hold water
30:19it doesn't make sense
30:20doesn't add up at all
30:23so based on all the information
30:25that Christopher Green gave authorities
30:26at that point
30:27they had enough probable cause
30:29to go back and enter the property
30:30where Megan was with the baby
30:37I had been doing podcasting for roughly a year
30:40before the Heidi case came about
30:42it was December 19th
30:45I interviewed her friend Caressa
30:47to raise awareness about Heidi
30:49and the baby's disappearance
30:51after a week of Heidi being missing
30:53I think her friends and family
30:55were getting really desperate
30:56so we are talking to Heidi's best friend Caressa
31:01we were live on YouTube
31:02so everybody is participating in real time
31:05everything of hers was there
31:07besides her phone and her keys
31:09which is very very odd
31:11yeah
31:11as the interview went on
31:13someone in the chat had said
31:15breaking news
31:15they're raiding a home in Houston
31:17and that changed everything
31:18wait a second you guys
31:20we have breaking news
31:21Northwest Harris County home
31:23swarmed by FBI and Austin police
31:26the address was given out
31:28when the raid was announced
31:30and someone in the chat
31:31started searching the address
31:33to that house
31:34and someone found a baby registry
31:37Megan Humphrey and Christopher Green
31:40oh my god
31:41oh my god
31:42what?
31:43what?
31:44that's Megan her best friend
31:47what?
31:49oh my god
31:50that's Megan's house
31:53and that was when all hell broke loose
31:56I'm over here freaking out guys sorry
31:59oh
32:03oh
32:04I'm so sorry Caressa
32:06I'm so sorry
32:08oh
32:09oh
32:12authorities enter the property
32:13where Megan was with the baby
32:15and rescue the baby
32:17some of the agents
32:18take this baby to a hospital
32:20to make sure that the baby is okay
32:22then they begin to interview Megan at the house
32:26Megan tells the investigators
32:28the baby was her baby girl named Luna
32:31okay
32:31when did you have the baby?
32:33where did you have the baby?
32:34she couldn't tell them where she had the baby
32:36how could you not remember?
32:39since we were pretty sure this is Heidi's baby
32:42now
32:43where is Heidi?
32:45investigators expanded their search
32:47and they start looking for Heidi
32:50they are searching everywhere
32:52to see if there's any evidence of her being alive
32:58walking through the backyard
33:00immediately one of the Texas Rangers
33:02is struck with this smell
33:04that's coming out of the car
33:07as investigators
33:08you know that smell
33:09they pop the trunk
33:11and inside of the trunk
33:12they find a black duffel bag
33:15and upon opening the black duffel bag
33:18they find a female deceased
33:19pretty quickly
33:21they realized
33:21based on photos
33:23they had
33:23this is in fact Heidi
33:27although we were
33:28very happy to retrieve the baby
33:30alive and healthy
33:32it's hard to celebrate that
33:34when you know that Heidi died
33:38we have a Fox News alert for you
33:40a dead body
33:41and a baby
33:42found alive
33:43in that search
33:44connected to the missing mother
33:46down in Texas
33:46Heidi Broussard
33:48and her newborn daughter
33:49Margo
33:51I'm watching news coverage
33:56and then
34:01you see the stretcher
34:02with the body pack
34:07and you know that your friends in them
34:11your friends are there
34:15I just remember screaming
34:20um
34:21and I'm just screaming like
34:22she's gone
34:23she's dead
34:28I got a call from a detective
34:30that says
34:31hey I just want to make you aware
34:32that we're
34:33at one of Heidi's
34:35friend's house
34:36I can't give a lot of information
34:37right now
34:38but are taking Megan
34:40in custody
34:42but we do have the baby
34:44Heidi is deceased
34:48and um
34:50just thinking man
34:52if I could just see Shane right now
34:53and just hug him and say
34:54I'm sorry
34:55I'm sorry man
34:56I'm sorry
34:58once the baby was released
35:00from the hospital
35:01and DNA testing proved
35:03that it was Heidi's baby
35:04she was returned to the family
35:13based on evidence
35:14license plate readers showing her
35:16in the area
35:17the day that Heidi disappears
35:19there's cell phone records
35:20Heidi's baby at her house
35:23in Houston
35:23her car
35:25with Heidi
35:25in the trunk
35:27when you add all that together
35:29we know Megan
35:30is responsible
35:31for this crime
35:34I'm angry
35:36we're all angry
35:38why Heidi?
35:41your best friend is supposed to be
35:42the person you trust
35:43more than anybody
35:46the Houston coroner
35:48the Houston coroner
35:48did an autopsy
35:49and declared
35:50that
35:51Heidi was killed
35:52by strangulation
35:54authorities charged
35:55Megan with capital murder
35:56and two counts of kidnapping
35:58an account of
35:59tampering with evidence
36:00a human corpse
36:01for
36:02putting Heidi in the trunk
36:03of the vehicle
36:03but Megan
36:04would never speak with investigators
36:06about the details
36:07I'm not sure
36:08we're ever going to know
36:09the full story behind
36:10what happened
36:10between Heidi
36:12and Megan
36:12but it was pretty obvious
36:14it was a plan
36:15that was thought out deliberately
36:16over the course of months
36:19the timing
36:20of Megan's announcement
36:23that she was pregnant
36:24doesn't seem accidental
36:26or coincidental
36:27she was probably planning
36:29right from the outset
36:31to
36:32take Heidi's baby from her
36:34and the only way
36:36that that timeline
36:36would work
36:37is if she too
36:38became pregnant
36:39right around the same time
36:41the idea that somebody
36:43could lie for
36:43nine months
36:44to everybody they love
36:45is ruthless
36:46it's calculated
36:48it's evil
36:52so now at this point
36:53investigators must ask
36:55how in the world
36:56did Megan's
36:57ex-boyfriend
36:58not know
36:59this whole time
37:01it sounds very suspicious
37:03so we really start
37:05to think about
37:06was this person
37:07part of this
37:08was Christopher Green
37:10planning this
37:11with Megan
37:21when Megan was arrested
37:23once they had found
37:24Heidi and the baby
37:26a lot of people
37:27questioned
37:28how Megan's boyfriend
37:29could not know
37:31but when the investigators
37:33talked to
37:34Megan's
37:35ex-boyfriend
37:35the story
37:37that he told them
37:38was plausible
37:40he had broken up
37:42with Megan
37:42months earlier
37:43right before Megan
37:44announced she was pregnant
37:46within days
37:47of
37:48the now ex-boyfriend
37:49kicking her out
37:51of the house
37:51she comes back
37:52and says hey
37:53I'm pregnant
37:54and
37:55he allows her
37:56to move back in
37:58they were sleeping
37:59in separate rooms
38:00they weren't being
38:01intimate with one another
38:02so he was clueless
38:05he had not seen her
38:06naked
38:07and could not confirm
38:08that she was pregnant
38:09so
38:10he took it on
38:11her word
38:12obviously Megan's
38:13boyfriend
38:14was investigated
38:15thoroughly
38:15and although it looks
38:17very strange
38:19it was determined
38:20that he was truthful
38:22he was proven
38:23to have nothing to do
38:24with this crime
38:28this is a textbook case
38:30of maternal desire
38:31where
38:32Megan
38:33was envious
38:34of her friend
38:35for having a baby
38:36getting pregnant
38:38everything that went with it
38:39she consciously
38:40made the decision
38:41I'm going to kill
38:42my best friend
38:43to take her baby
38:44because that's what I want
38:47Looking back
38:48this is where I think
38:50the story started
38:56Megan's boyfriend
38:57Chris
38:57he was breaking up with her
38:59she's got to figure out
39:01how to make him stay
39:03what's the easiest way
39:04to keep somebody
39:05is to tell him
39:07you're pregnant
39:07when Heidi first announced
39:09her pregnancy
39:10with the baby
39:11Megan told everybody
39:12that she was pregnant too
39:14then over the course
39:16of the subsequent months
39:18she faked a pregnancy
39:21she gained a lot of weight
39:22she stuffed her belly
39:25to show that she was
39:26getting bigger and bigger
39:27every single month
39:28she created a baby registry
39:31and then later
39:32had a baby shower
39:34on November 26th
39:36Heidi gives birth
39:36and Megan
39:37is there with her
39:39and then a little over
39:40a week later Megan
39:41tells all of her friends
39:42that she gave birth
39:43to a baby girl
39:44named Luna
39:45on December 12th
39:47early in the afternoon
39:48Megan comes to visit Heidi
39:50at her department complex
39:54we don't know exactly
39:55how Megan
39:56got Heidi down to the car
39:58but somehow using
39:59that friendship
40:00Megan got Heidi
40:01to bring the baby down
40:02and see her
40:03investigators think
40:04that after Megan
40:05got Heidi in the car
40:06she strangled her
40:08and drove back to Houston
40:10with Heidi's body
40:11and the baby
40:13the next day
40:14when Megan's ex-boyfriend
40:16came back home
40:18she introduced baby Margo
40:20to him
40:20as his child
40:25to think that
40:26this was planned out
40:27over a nine month period
40:29that she was going to do away
40:30with her friend
40:31just to get her baby
40:33and never have one thought
40:34that this might not be a good idea
40:37is crazy to me
40:40we did lay Heidi to rest
40:41right before Christmas
40:42and she had the absolute most beautiful funeral
40:47I saw Shane at the funeral
40:48and I said
40:49I want to let you know
40:51that I blamed you
40:53I had to admit this to him
40:55and it sucked
40:58he was just like
40:59it's okay, it's okay
41:00he was like
41:00everybody thought it
41:01you know, you're not the only one
41:03you aren't alone
41:05Megan never went to trial
41:07for this case
41:07she actually accepted a plea deal
41:09Megan was sentenced to 55 years in prison
41:12no chance of parole
41:13and no chance to appeal her case
41:18what is justice?
41:20justice is only a word
41:24families never get over it
41:26it's just a word to hopefully comfort us
41:30there's a lot of evil in this world
41:32and it just makes you
41:35take a step back
41:36and look around
41:38I mean, she thought
41:40that this person
41:40was her best friend for 20 years
41:43I can't even imagine
41:46she took the mother of two children
41:48those children will never have a mother now
41:49she destroyed an entire family
41:52and it really breaks my heart
41:55to think about that
41:59Heidi was
42:03a light in everybody's life
42:05she was a good person
42:07a good friend
42:08she had a laugh
42:09that was unmistakable
42:11and
42:12she wanted to make everybody's day
42:15a little brighter
42:18we all want to keep her memory alive
42:19because Heidi never missed
42:22the opportunity
42:22to take somebody in
42:24and make them feel special
42:26and that's just
42:27but that's who she was
