00:15hello and welcome i'm gita mohan and you're watching india today global now a month into
00:20the west asia war and global economies under strain the u.s is ramping up its military presence with
00:26more troops potentially heading to the region while tensions escalate with threats and strong
00:31rhetoric from both sides diplomatic efforts are underway with pakistan offering to mediate
00:37talks between the u.s and iran mahashweta lala with this report
00:48a month since the west asia war began global economies are being choked with the closure of
00:54strait of hormones and infrastructure facilities in iran and the gulf area are bearing the brunt
00:59of an indefinite war around 3500 troops have arrived in the middle east including the uss tripoli with
01:09about 2500 marines as reports of a potential ground invasion of iran but the u.s is making rounds an
01:18exeo report said the white house and the pentagon are now considering sending at least 10 000
01:24additional combat troops to the middle east in the coming days an iranian newspaper reacted to this
01:32with a front page headline saying welcome to hell the president of the united states who has become
01:40known as the most lying president of the world has no stability of thought or discourse is not
01:47trustworthy in any way and unfortunately the leaders of the united states have delegated the authority
01:54to command the armed forces to someone who due to imbalance dangerous and wrong positions and decisions
02:00has led the u.s army into the swamp of death
02:07in an interview to financial times president trump said he had lot of options regarding the kharg island
02:13he said and i quote maybe we take kharg island maybe we don't it would also mean we had to
02:21be
02:21there for a while and i unquote but this has not been the first time when trump had spoken about
02:28taking
02:28over the island long before he was the president in 1988 he said in an interview with the guardian and
02:35i
02:35quote i did do a number of kharg island i did go in and take it iran can't even beat
02:42iraq yet they push
02:44the united states around it will be good for the world to take them on and i unquote pakistan had
02:52organized a meeting of the foreign ministers of egypt turkey and saudi arabia to solve the west asia crisis
02:59after concluding the meeting pakistan's foreign minister and deputy prime minister ishak dar said
03:05that pakistan will be honored to host and facilitate meaningful talks between the u.s and iran in the
03:12coming days trump reposted a post of dar which said iran had agreed to allow 20 more ships under pakistani
03:20flags to pass through the strait of hormuz as you know they've agreed to send eight boats two days ago
03:30and then they added another two so it was 10 boats and now today they gave us as a tribute
03:38i don't
03:39know i can't define it exactly but they gave us i think out of a sign of respect 20 boats
03:46of oil big big
03:47boats of oil going through the armor strait and that's taking place uh starting tomorrow morning
03:56trump also hinted that iran already has undergone a regime change and the u.s is involved in talks
04:03with the reasonable people in a post on truth social trump threatened to blow up all of iran's
04:10electric generating plants oil wells and kharg island if hormuz was not opened up
04:17we've had regime change if you look already because uh the one regime was decimated destroyed they're
04:24all dead the next regime is mostly dead and the third regime we're dealing with different people
04:31than anybody's dealt with before it's a whole different group of people so i would consider
04:36that regime change and frankly they've been very reasonable meanwhile spain has closed its airspace
04:44to u.s planes involved in attacks on iran however the closure of its airspace forces military planes
04:51to bypass nato member spain on route to their targets in the middle east does not include emergency
04:57situations amid back channel stocks and plans to put boots on the ground iran and israel continue to
05:05strike each other's infrastructure facilities a fire broke out at an oil refinery in the northern israeli
05:12city of haifa for the second time video showed flames on a large refinery tank with thick black smoke that
05:19was quickly extinguished by israel's fire and rescue services iran had to strike israeli universities and
05:27branches of u.s universities in the middle east after israel hit iran's university of science and
05:33technology physics faculty meanwhile u.s universities in the middle east have been asked to go remote
05:40following iran's threats bureau report india today
05:48and pranay upadha my colleague who's been reporting from tel aviv across israel for a
05:53very long time joins me for more on this pranay escalation mediation threats all on one day
06:01what's your reading yeah absolutely right geeta uh everything is uh happening almost in almost the same
06:09social media post of president donald trump on one side he threatens about obliterating iranian capacity
06:15on the other side he also says that he is engaging with the right set of people but uh also
06:21threatening
06:22iran to accept but one thing remains constant that the iran still remain defiant iran has not accepted so-called
06:29military defeat and uh in fact that remains a challenge because this conflict has already
06:33completed uh a v a month and in fact uh the world is really under the pressure of this conflict
06:40wake up because uh every economy of the of the world is uh facing the challenges being posed by this
06:46conflict uh and uh what we are witnessing right now is that there are you know hectic parlays there are
06:51engagements uh the world capitals are calling each other and trying to find some kind of solution here
06:57but uh let me list out the four points uh you know mentioned by the u.s secretary of state
07:01marco rubio
07:02just uh just a while ago and he said that the four uh are there are four priorities for the
07:08united
07:08states as far as the operation epic fury is concerned one uh you know uh destroying the uh the iranian
07:14air force uh destroying iranian missile launch capacity uh destroying iranian naval capacity and also
07:21iran's missile building capacity and uh largely united states have achieved these things and in fact
07:27uh to further uh you know those uh goals and those objectives they are still ahead of schedule for for
07:34many uh things so clearly uh united states has set certain uh certain objectives here they have defined
07:40it but uh as far as israel's objectives are concerned what we are witnessing right now uh you know as
07:46far as the israeli defense forces strategy is concerned that they have intensified their operation
07:51and now today what they have posted on social media it is very remarkable that now israeli defense
07:57forces or israeli air force is hitting out uh on the other coast of iran that is alongside the cap
08:04caspian sea so from the persian gulf coast to the caspian sea coast of iran now if uh the iran
08:11the israeli defense forces or israeli air force is hitting out at different parts of iran then
08:16obviously uh the the damage is being inflicted on major part of iran absolutely uh but also the
08:22fact that now uh another front has opened up rana it's not just uh the it's not just the iranian
08:28forces or hezbollah from lebanon houthis have started attacking this is the first time that houthis have
08:35entered the fray in this uh phase of the war in this war uh how is israel looking at it
08:41again i ask you
08:42the same thing on the same day we're looking at houthis opening a front we're looking at escalation
08:47by israel we are looking at retaliation by iran on an oil refinery in israel and then we're looking
08:55at israelis who are now uh experiencing anxiety all obviously there is a battle fatigue uh in israel as
09:06well and uh people uh uh also think that you know their economic activity their well-being is getting
09:11impacted because of uh this ongoing conflict uh but this is also an argument that it's an existential
09:18threat for for israel and in fact uh they uh have been threatened by the proxies of iran and they
09:25have
09:25to to eliminate uh those those challenges but having said that uh you know uh what we have witnessed or
09:31what
09:32what i can can tell you from ground that in last uh last 24 hours or last last 36 hours
09:38there is a
09:38coordinated attack uh uh on on the northern part of iran what we are witnessing that beat haifa or beat
09:44metula or beat nahariya uh these areas of northern part of of iran of israel are being targeted by hezbollah
09:51and iran together on the other side uh in the southern part of of of israel beat elat or or
09:58or or or the
10:00negev or other parts of of uh southern part of israel there is a coordinated attack by iran and uh
10:07and
10:07yeah and houthis of yemen uh so certainly there is an increased uh you know challenge for the israeli
10:13defense forces because currently now they are engaging on all their three fronts and uh in fact uh this is
10:20like an overstretched uh engagement for uh for israel but you know that israel is known for engaging at
10:27the multiple fronts they have uh you know previously also engaged in multiple fronts and
10:31engaged uh uh from all these threats beat uh houthis from yemen or beat hezbollah or hamas uh or or
10:38even
10:38iran for that matter so uh for last three years they have been engaging and i think uh the the
10:44israeli
10:44defense forces are are neutralizing all the incoming projectiles and so far uh let me tell you that in
10:51last 12 hours it's been relatively very peaceful and and calm in tel aviv because when i reached here
10:57on 24th of 4th of march uh the sirens were sounding almost say about like you know every second or
11:02third
11:02hour but now it's relatively relatively calm here that's right pranay uh calmer but we do not know what
11:11the the two sides hold against each other as of now it could just be uh calm before a massive
11:17storm but
11:18you stay safe uh you've been reporting from israel we'll have to wait and see how all countries react
11:24or maybe look at a better way out which is negotiations thank you so much for now pranay
11:31now 85 seconds to midnight after strikes on iran the world may be inching even closer to nuclear danger
11:38because while tehran is being hit over its program others are now considering the same path
11:44the old rules are fading so the question is are we stopping a nuclear threat or creating a nuclear world
11:5885 seconds to midnight here's the thing about nuclear weapons countries don't want them until
12:03they do and right now more countries are reconsidering that line than at any point since the cold war
12:10let's start with what's happening in the gulf the us and israel went after iran's nuclear program the
12:15stated goal stop the iran from getting the bomb but here's where it gets darkly ironic while american
12:21missiles were falling on iranian soil the white house was quietly circulating a report to congress
12:26proposing to give saudi arabia access to uranium enrichment and reprocessing technology the very
12:32things iran was being bombed for north korea has the bomb it fires ballistic missiles into the sea of
12:38japan like clockwork and now three in four south koreans say they want one too more than 75 percent
12:45of them and who can blame them japan a country that knows better than anyone what a nuclear weapon does
12:51to a city is quietly debating the same question a senior advisor to the prime minister said out loud
12:57in december japan should have the bomb germany which for decades sat comfortably under america's nuclear
13:02umbrella is now in confidential talks with france about a european deterrent poland says it will
13:08eventually seek nuclear weapons francis president macron put it bluntly at a submarine base this month
13:14to be free one must be feared here's the brutal math nine countries currently have the bomb the inf
13:20treaty gone new start expired the test ban treaty under threat and the u.s is weighing its first nuclear
13:27detonation in over 30 years nine nations 85 seconds one unravelling agreement at a time the cold war
13:35generation built a system to make sure the bomb stayed rare it took decades the war on iran was
13:41sold as a solution the iaea the diplomats quietly meeting in european capitals right now and they will
13:47tell you the same thing you don't stop a nuclear age by starting a war you start one with shijita
13:54saying mojumdar pure report india today global joining me to discuss
14:04on iran he's also the executive vice president of quincy institute for responsible statecraft
14:11rita parsi thank you so much for joining us here on the network beginning with what trump has posted and
14:17what trump is saying he's not only saying that he's speaking to a responsible new regime in iran
14:24but he's also threatened yet again of attacking the power plants in iran should they not open the
14:31strait of homos your first reaction and reading i think by now we should be expecting that every monday
14:38morning right before the markets start uh opening trump will issue some sort of a tweet that both will
14:44be threatening but also give the idea that he is in control of the situation and that this war is
14:50going to come to a close end uh i don't think we should take it particularly seriously there are no
14:56signs that there actually is anything serious happening on the diplomatic front
15:00nor are there any signs that trump actually is in control of this war um he has intervened orally
15:07several times to try to calm down the markets at some point those interventions are
15:11no longer going to have much of an effect but uh then trita the the threat to the power plants
15:18is real
15:18and once again is there when it at a time when we are looking at pakistan maybe being the messenger
15:25over here because we don't see direct negotiations iran has rejected any offer or proposal for talks
15:33in such a scenario is the threat real he has issued these threats several times
15:40um he has not acted on them except though the israelis are going after much of iran's infrastructure
15:46right now including universities i think this is an important thing to note the united states never
15:52deliberately targeted any universities in afghanistan or in iraq the israelis did so extensively in gaza
15:59they destroyed almost all of the universities in gaza and now they're going after and openly admitting
16:03that they're targeting universities in iraq it leaves you with the impression that it's the israelis
16:09that are driving the bus on this war not trump because the manner in which this war is conducted
16:14is the israeli way of warfare not the american way of warfare so you're saying this is an israeli playbook
16:20and that trump is taking his cue from netanyahu he started this war taking his cue from netanyahu he
16:29thought as he was promised by netanyahu that this would be an easy war he told regional leaders
16:34that it would take four days to get the iranians to surrender or for their regime to collapse that
16:40obviously didn't happen he never had a plan b and ever since he's been either improvising the war or
16:45just following the lead of the israelis and that's part of the reason why this is now and it entered
16:49into
16:50the second month of this war the meme fest aside where everybody's putting out videos and memes about
16:58who is trump really talking to a statement such as the one that trump has put out where he says
17:05he's
17:05in conversation with a new regime in iran what do we make of this twitter because everybody has been
17:14and the iranians have been saying we're not talking to trump we're not talking to the us negotiations
17:20are off the table and he continues to not just say it he maintains he reiterates
17:26he emphasizes that he's talking to iranians and now he's talking about a new regime
17:32and he's doing so because he wants to calm the markets he wants to make the markets think that
17:39there is a diplomatic process in place that he's winning this war that the iranians will surrender
17:45at some point and as a result this energy shortage and this energy crisis will not go on for that
17:51much
17:51longer reality is that he has been quite successful in manipulating the markets both through oral
17:57interventions and through other measures the real price of oil should be above 150 dollars but the
18:03paper price is still somewhere around 120 because of these interventions of his but these interventions
18:10will not be likely to succeed in the long run unless there actually is a change on the ground and
18:16for that to
18:16happen trump needs to have a much more realistic negotiating position because what he keeps on
18:22insisting on and what he's offering the iranians is essentially terms of surrender that is just simply
18:28detached from the realities of the ground in which the iranians continue not only to be in control of the
18:35strait of hormuz but they're also in a position in which because of the manner in which they have taken
18:39out
18:39a lot of radar uh sites by the us and israel uh and the israelis are running out of air
18:46air defense
18:46missiles the iranians having an easier and easier time to strike both at israel and at infrastructure
18:53and bases in the gcc states well that was part of the interview with trita parisi you can watch the
19:02full interview it's a very interesting one on india today global's youtube channel with that moving on to
19:08another story mass protests have erupted across the united states of america and abroad against
19:13president donald trump's policies particularly the war with iran rising inflation controversial domestic
19:20decisions and immigration actions have fueled public anger leading to nationwide no kings demonstrations
19:27the unrest has spread to cities like paris and even israel with global voices including the pope
19:33condemning war and calling for peace
19:44it's perhaps a moment which should scare president trump a war that he along with israeli
19:49government entered into against iran despite the wishes of the american people
19:56with rising prices of oil domestic goods skyrocketing americans are feeling the pinch
20:03the country since trump's second term has witnessed massive upheaval not only in foreign policy but
20:10also at the domestic front from the creation of doge which has been responsible for the job losses
20:19of americans to the inhuman treatment of immigrants including the killing of two americans by the immigration
20:26and customs enforcement or rights u.s now seems on the brink of a revolution for a regime change
20:37several cities in the united states came out to protest the war against iran demanding an immediate
20:42end to the quagmire that the country has been dragged into the no kings protest was organized with more than
20:513200 events planned in all 50 states and several cities outside the united states this comes as trump's
20:58approval rating has fallen to 36 percent since his return to the white house
21:08new yorkers packed the streets around times square and marched past its famous billboards holding
21:15signs and chanting slogans as part of nationwide no kings rallies a protest against president trump and
21:21his administration's policies
21:26chicago philadelphia atlanta and seattle activists marched chanted and held posters against trump's
21:34aggressive deportation efforts war in iran and other policies trump has to be stopped and that's
21:44what no kings is all about because he can't do all the things that he's been doing without the collusion
21:50of congress and the goons in his in his administration i came here so i could protest this administration
21:58we no longer have two parties in this country we have one we have the trump party and it's running
22:03everything the democrats are failing and the republicans are allowing trump to do whatever he wants as
22:10if he's holy and blessed and sanctioned by god which he is not protesters in los angeles to condemn trump's
22:19war on iran but this was not confined to the u.s several hundred people mostly americans living in france
22:26joined for the first time by french labor unions and human rights organizations at bastille in paris
22:32for a no kings rally
22:39amid protest pop leo while addressing thousands of people in saint peter's square on palm sunday said
22:46god rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and have hands full of blood
22:54he did not arm himself or defend himself or fight any war he revealed the gentle face of god who
23:01always
23:01rejects violence rather than saving himself he allowed himself to be nailed to the cross embracing every
23:07cross born in every time and place throughout human history brothers and sisters this is our god jesus king
23:13of peace who rejects war whom no one can use to justify war he does not listen to the prayers
23:19of those who wage
23:20war but rejects them saying even though you make many prayers i will not listen your hands are full of
23:27blood
23:27to ail nostril deal jesus ray de la pache
23:34meanwhile protest erupted on the streets of israel where five anti-war protesters were arrested during
23:41a demonstration in the northern israeli city of haifa police reported that about 100 people gathered for
23:48the protest at the horrib intersection with maha shweta lala bureau report india today
23:57that's all in this edition of india today global but before i go here's some news not from war but

24:10edition formula one kitkat chocolate bars went missing in europe last week after thieves made off with the
24:17truck transporting them kitkat which is made by nestle said the truck carrying 413 793 bars of its
24:26new range set off from central italy to distribute the chocolate throughout europe but never reached
24:33its scheduled final destination in poland with that it's a wrap and before i go i quote george bernard
