00:00What about the Iran-USA-Israel talks?
00:03Iran has put out a statement, very interesting.
00:05Iran agrees that the talks are on with the United States of America.
00:10Initially, remember, the Iranian statements from the regime had come saying that there are no discussions per se.
00:16However, now Iran admits that there are talks on with the United States of America,
00:20but there is a condition attached, and that is that there are intermediaries who are involved in this.
00:26So, the negotiators are on behalf of the Iranian regime, not directly talking to the USA.
00:32So, Iran has confirmed that talks are on, but these are not direct talks with the USA or Israel,
00:37and that it is happening through intermediaries.
00:40Now, who are these intermediaries or negotiators?
00:42There was, of course, reference to Pakistan also that had come in.
00:46But for now, Iran has said, America's proposals are unrealistic and unreasonable.
00:52Pursue peace with realistic view of events.
00:56Iran's Bagai says, proposals have been conveyed to Iran have been mostly unrealistic, unreasonable and excessive.
01:02Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagai adding, no direct talks with the USA.
01:07There were some talks, there was some discussion, but that was only through messages via intermediaries.
01:14Bagai also adding, that it is welcome that regional countries are pursuing peace,
01:18but there has to be a realistic view of the events that is necessary.
01:24Our Foreign Affairs Editor, Agita Mohan joins me for the latest on that.
01:28Agita, what should one make of this?
01:29Because it does appear that the talks are on, even if not direct talks,
01:32but Iran maintains proposals by the USA are unrealistic and excessive.
01:39Well, that's right, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson had said that to us in his interview to us as well,
01:47that there are no direct talks that are happening.
01:50There are, of course, indirect channels that are open,
01:52but they are not keen on any negotiations because they do not trust America.
01:57The first time around they were in talks with America,
02:00the 12-day war happened, and then the B-2 bombers bombed the nuclear sites.
02:05The second time the talks were happening in Geneva,
02:09the Foreign Minister was in Geneva,
02:11and the second attack happened, and the war is still ongoing.
02:15So they do not trust any negotiations.
02:17All they are demanding is that America retreat.
02:24So we have to wait and see how this goes.
02:26Because what we are looking at is maybe the messaging through intermediaries
02:30of the two sides retreating, or a ceasefire, or a halt.
02:36But this war, in the manner in which it is being carried out,
02:41is unsustainable for global economy.
02:43So there will have to be a rethink,
02:45especially when it comes to West Asia, that's the Arab world,
02:48where they are feeling the pain and the pinch more than any other part.
02:52All right, Geeta, I appreciate you telling us what precisely is happening
02:55in the region right now.
02:56There are strikes in Beirut, in Lebanon, by Israel.
02:59There are strikes in Israel, by Iran.
03:02There are cities like Dubai, in UAE, or even neighbor cities
03:07that have been engulfed in this conflict.
03:10But like Geeta also mentions, remember the impact of this conflict
03:13is being worn or seen by the world over,
03:16whether it's about energy, fuel, essential commodities, food,
03:19and other issues as well, specifically focused on the Strait of Hormuz.
03:23However, Iran accepting that the talks are on,
03:26but the talks have not been direct.
03:29They have been through intermediaries, messages that have come in as well.
03:33That basically means that there are some negotiators,
03:36or like middlemen,
03:37they are the ones transferring messages to each other.
