00:12Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're counting down our picks for the 10 hardest, most challenging
00:183D platforming levels that will truly test your skills. Now for this list we are only keeping to
00:24one entry per game franchise, since in all honesty we easily could have just filled this
00:29whole list with late game 3D Mario stages and myriad Crash Bandicoot levels.
00:43Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe
00:48and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:53Treetops Spyro the Dragon
01:03The treetops level in Spyro the Dragon might seem quite innocuous at first glance,
01:08however its quaint bucolic facade hides a truly challenging level. You see, this level's
01:14difficulty is threefold, its verticality, its maze-like layout, and the need to perfectly
01:19utilize Spyro's supercharge ability via multiple ramps and then glide in order to get to the out
01:26of reach platforms. Now on paper this may sound quite simple, but in practice, well it's a whole
01:32other story. Timing your supercharges and chaining them together often on some of the ramps is quite
01:38tricky indeed, especially since you have to then ensure you glide high enough and far enough to make
01:44it to the next treetop platform. Heck, even the Reignited Trilogy's take on this level is just as tough,
01:50even with its more polished and refined controls and camera.
02:02Lasers everywhere, Split Fiction
02:05Very, very, very hard, very, very hard.
02:12Split Fiction hides a super secret level in the isolation chapter deep within the maximum security
02:18area. By utilizing the binary code just above the entrance to the elevator on the left-hand side,
02:24after sliding down the slide, you can then descend into this downright punishing 3D platforming level.
02:30Broken up into five mini areas, you and your co-op pal must ensure both Mio and Zoe make it
02:37through
02:37each platforming laser gauntlet in order to progress. One wrong move and you get zapped by the lasers and
02:43it's back to the start for you. So it's imperative that both of you are platforming pros in order to
02:48survive this challenge. Anything less than platforming perfections means you won't make it through the
02:54laser trials. But for those that do, you are greeted by Hazelight's Joseph Ferris, who congratulates you on
03:00your well-earned, hard-fought platforming victory.
03:11Frostblight Mill Vex
03:23Vex is an often forgotten 3D action platformer that is dripping with early 2000s attitude and style,
03:30and plenty of challenge of course, especially in the case of the level Frostblight Mill.
03:34This frozen winter platforming playground is unique in that it also houses a lava core,
03:40where some of the most maniacally tough platforming sections are. Vex adopts the
03:45Super Mario 64 style of gameplay, whereby Vex chooses which Wraithheart to try and obtain,
03:52hearkening back to the way Mario must choose which star to go after in the various levels.
03:56Well, Frostblight Mill's Wraithhearts are the toughest ones to tackle in the game.
04:01The slippery ice surfaces, howling winds that often impede successful platforming,
04:05the level's verticality and hidden nooks and crannies, plus the plethora of challenging
04:10platforming gauntlets, all ensure that Vex has his work cut out for him,
04:14if he hopes to obtain every Wraithheart in this cold wintery level.
04:27Great Master Challenge Astro Bot
04:39A truly great endgame platforming gauntlet should test every single skill you have learned through
04:45your adventure. This point is unequivocally evident in Astro Bot's Great Master Challenge.
04:50This uber tough challenge level is only unlocked once you have found 300 bots and 120 puzzle pieces in total,
04:57no easy feat mind you. The Great Master Challenge is a relentless gauntlet of pure platforming prowess,
05:03where perfection and precision are necessary in order to make it to the celebratory end where you
05:09meet up with the lyrical Master Bot. Here's hoping we get even more Astro Bot in the future,
05:14because this 3D platformer is simply sublime.
05:26Planet Snivelac, Ratchet and Clank Going Commando.
05:36Now, the Ratchet and Clank games aren't generally known for being all that challenging. However,
05:41Going Commando throws a curveball difficulty spike in the form of Planet Snivelac. Broken up into two
05:48main gameplay sections, the first sees Ratchet and Clank battle relentless waves of goons who put up
05:53quite the fight, especially in the opening bridge section. Staying mobile and using the right weapon
05:59is key to survival here. Then, you are thrust into a citywide battle against a massive hulking robot,
06:05who seeks to crush our lombax and robot pals. This dude takes forever to put down, given his sponge-like
06:11health bar and the fact that he can only be defeated by specifically placed electric laser
06:16turrets. It's an arduous battle in an otherwise pretty tame game.
06:29Meat Circus Psychonauts.
06:39The Meat Circus in 2005 Psychonauts is not for the faint of heart or peck for any vegetarians out
06:45there since, and this should probably be obvious from the name, it's a circus made almost entirely
06:50out of meat. Raz has his work cut out for him as he navigates this beefy perilous circus. Every
06:57platforming skill and ability that you have learned up to this point feels like it's tested,
07:01with failure coming around every fleshy goopy corner. It's certainly one of the most unique
07:06levels in the entire game, which is saying something because there's a lot of unique ones,
07:10but its sole purpose seems to be one of grueling platforming nightmares,
07:14culminating in a tough-as-nails boss battle. Time to fire up the grill and get your barbecue on.
07:28Hoodlum Headquarters Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc
07:39This massive labyrinthian headquarters of the Hoodlums provides challenge after challenge,
07:44without ever letting up. The platforming sections alone can be a real difficulty spike,
07:49in a game that isn't too hard overall. However, throw in a metric ton of Hoodlum goons,
07:54set amidst the platforming, and you have a dastardly recipe indeed.
07:59Some of these Hoodlums won't go down without a serious fight. Even if you aren't trying to
08:03collect everything in the headquarters, there are still so many tricky areas to contend with,
08:08as Rayman uses his various abilities and powers. Don't even get me started on that final hectic
08:14platforming gauntlet, where you must guide Rayman with pixel-perfect platforming precision,
08:19whew, that's a lot of alliteration, in order to avoid the rising, red, electricity, lava,
08:24mystery, liquid stuff. I actually don't know what it is. But anyway, this section is downright brutal.
08:29Good luck.
08:40Get seal piece at Water Slums, Jack 2.
08:49Jack 2 is quite the step up in difficulty when compared to the first game, the Precursor Legacy.
08:54On top of being more dark and brooding, Jack 2 just so happens to feature some maniacal missions
08:59that will make you pull your hair out in frustration. Enter get seal piece at Water Slums,
09:05a location slash mission so notorious to fans of this game that there are countless videos of gamers
09:10pushing their skills to the max in order to do no damage runs or speed runs.
09:15While this section is super duper short overall, it packs wallop after wallop,
09:19as our duo deal with an overwhelming onslaught of baddies atop rickety walkways,
09:24all while avoiding the scurrying citizens. Four words for you, Jack and Daxter, run towards the light.
09:38The Perfect Run, Super Mario Galaxy 2.
09:49The name of this level in the Grandmaster Galaxy ensures it doesn't play coy with you, never burying the lead.
09:55The Perfect Run is just that, a prankster comment level requiring the utmost precision and platforming
10:01prowess in order to guide Mario to the star at the end. One wrong move and it's back to the
10:06start,
10:06in the hopes of learning from your mistakes and trying again, and then trying again and again, in my case.
10:11In a game that is so darn whimsical and upbeat and amazing overall, The Perfect Run shows that
10:17incredible challenges can still be packaged up nicely in something fun, lighthearted, and vibrant.
10:22Now, if only I was good enough at platforming to actually make it to the star at the end. Well,
10:27maybe one day.
10:38Scene Double, Crash Bandicoot 4, It's About Time.
10:49All right, let's just get the proverbial elephant in the room out of the way. The Crash Bandicoot games
10:54are both 3D and 2.5D platformers, depending on which level or which part of a level you are at.
11:01Yep, we got that cleared up. Awesome.
11:03Now, we toyed with the idea of putting Stormy Ascent from N. Sane Trilogy or Fumbling in the Dark from
11:08the
11:08OG Crash Bandicoot here, but we strongly feel that seeing Double from It's About Time is the
11:14toughest of the bunch. Now, this mostly comes down to two main factors. Factor 1, you play as both
11:20Neo Cortex and Crash Bandicoot in this level, swapping mid-level. Factor 2, this end-of-game
11:26level requires absolute perfection and mastery. You will need to have a full understanding of every
11:31single jump, move, and ability, and power-up for both characters in order to survive this
11:36nightmarish platforming gauntlet. So, do you agree with our picks for this list? What are some of the
11:52hardest 3D platforming levels you have played? Let us know in the comments.
