00:08Welcome to Mojo Place, and today we're taking a look at the weirdest, oddest, and wackiest
00:14video games from the 2010s, so let's get weird.
00:23Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:27the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33Deadly Premonition
00:34Did you see that, Zach?
00:36Clear as a crisp spring morning.
00:38F.K.
00:41In the coffee.
00:42I knew I could count on it.
00:44Never fails.
00:45The epitome of so bad, it's good.
00:48Deadly Premonition truly is more than the sum of its parts.
00:51This is just one heck of a wacky spectacle all around.
00:55As Francis York Morgan, your sort of overarching goal is to uncover the machinations behind
01:01a Twin Peaks-esque murder, however, the game's tone hops around constantly.
01:06Apart from the fourth wall breaking moments, where the player is referred to as Zach, and
01:11York even talking to his coffee, Deadly Premonition is equal parts goofy and serious, never quite
01:18threading the needle well.
01:19The gameplay is wonky and janky, NPCs are downright crazy, the world is oddly reactive
01:25to you, and really the list just goes on and on here.
01:28It's no surprise then that this game has become a beloved cult classic for just how
01:33weird it really is.
01:35Mr. Francis York Morgan, please have some tea while it is hot.
01:40Too much coffee for your body will make it rot.
01:44The Stanley Parable Now, yes, this is exciting.
01:48Just me and Stanley forging a new path, a new story, well it could be anything.
01:53At first, The Stanley Parable seems like a by-the-numbers walking simulator, where you
01:58guide an employee through a mundane melancholic office.
02:01But it very quickly gives way to a thought-provoking meta-narrative about existence and free will,
02:07all at the behest, hopefully, of the omnipresent narrator.
02:11You, as the player, can choose to either listen to or disobey the narrator's remarks, with
02:16the game always providing a new route forward, mostly at least, depending on how much you
02:21give in to the control of the narrator.
02:23It's hilarious, esoteric, cerebral, and goofy all at the same time.
02:28If you like fourth wall breaks, multiple unique endings, heavy doses of sarcastic humor, and
02:34some good old-fashioned trolling, then you might just click with The Stanley Parable's
02:38brand of weirdness.
02:39Stanley stepped into the broom closet, but there was nothing here, so he turned around
02:44and got back on track.
02:46Lovely Planet
02:54Lovely Planet, at its core, is a hyper-vibrant saccharine first-person shooter puzzle-adventure
03:00game that sorta just feels like a wild fever dream.
03:03Now, what's most striking and odd is how peaceful and whimsical the world looks and
03:08feels, but it's all juxtaposed by cartoony violence, since FPS action is thrown in as
03:14you explore the game's many surreal landscapes.
03:17If you even have a chance to glean the game's many enemies, then you quickly realize they
03:22are downright bizarre, and even off-putting at times.
03:25You fly through this game at such a rapid pace that it's hard to stop and smell the strangely
03:30colored roses.
03:31Now, it's a fun little title that constantly keeps you on your toes with both its frenetic
03:36gameplay and crazy dose of weirdness around every single corner.
03:47Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy
03:49I feel your pain.
03:53The pain in knowing this has happened to you.
03:55Have you ever wanted to be plopped into a cauldron, equipped with a sledgehammer, and
04:00tasked to clamber up a mountain?
04:01Well, if you happen to answer yes to that oddly hyper-specific question, then getting over
04:07it with Bennett Foddy might just be your cup of tea.
04:10The game toes the line perfectly between oddly surreal, deeply philosophical, and incredibly
04:15frustrating.
04:15This is a game that demands you get used to its wonky brand of physics, movement, and momentum,
04:21if you hope to even summit the literal mountain in front of you.
04:25Oh, and should you fail, which I'm sure you will, well there are no checkpoints or save
04:29spots so you must try all over again, and over again, and yes, even over again.
04:41Baba Is You
04:43Baba Is You throws the indie puzzle game rulebook straight out of the window, stomps on it, and
04:54then burns it for good measure.
04:56Yes, it's just that strange and cryptic all around.
04:58You see, this indie puzzler requires you to move about letters and words in the environment
05:04to augment how that specific environment, and the obstacles therein, behave.
05:09It's never quite what you expect, but in the best way possible, and it'll really break
05:13your brain.
05:14Baba, as a creature, is a sort of goofy and adorable blob-like rabbit thing, I guess, that
05:20can transform based on your sentences that you cobble together.
05:24This is just one of those puzzle games that breaks your brain, as I said, forcing you to
05:28truly think outside the box.
05:36Manual Samuel
05:37Sam does something that resembles walking towards the bathroom.
05:41Gonna do a kickflip now.
05:44If the thought of controlling every one of your limbs and body functions independently in
05:49a game just to move forward makes you squirm, then you can see why Manual Samuel is so darn
05:55weird.
05:55The rich and lazy Samuel strikes a dastardly deal with death, where he can be brought back
06:01from the grave, but only if he successfully contorts his body one movement at a time to
06:06progress for a full 24 hours.
06:08Breathing, talking, walking, picking up items, heck even blinking, literally everything for
06:13Samuel must be manually controlled and manipulated.
06:16It's brutally difficult at first, and deeply absurd, all wrapped up in a nice cartoony veneer.
06:22Oh, and it gets even more downright bananas as the game progresses.
06:26Sam decides to hurl himself down the stairs.
06:29Apparently too used to hurling money around.
06:40West of Loathing
06:41West of Loathing sort of feels and plays like one of those old school Flash games.
06:45The monochromatic stick figure drawing aesthetic is so charming and instantly reminds you of
06:51classic gaming.
06:51Oh, and this is also a full on Wild West experience, one that offers witty writing, smart humor,
06:58a fun story, and is surprisingly even a well crafted turn based RPG.
07:02Yeah, I mean, who would have thought that, right?
07:04This game's weirdness mostly comes down to how your character can interact with so many
07:09different items in the game, such as a disgusting spittoon.
07:12Yeah, if you know, you know, it's gross.
07:15And how much the game relies on wit and humor to push you forward.
07:19Now, don't get us wrong, the gameplay here is solid, with plenty of rewards and great
07:23progression overall.
07:24But it's really the fun western narrative that keeps things going.
07:36Katamari Damacy Reroll
07:44If you've played a Katamari game, then you already know it deserves a place on this list,
07:49of course.
07:50Now, for those unfamiliar with the series, your goal is to roll a ball of stuff.
07:54One that gets bigger and bigger, and you stick more stuff to it basically, through a series
07:58of off the wall, super colorful levels, all backed by zany visuals and some wacky music.
08:042018's Reroll is a remastered version of the OG Katamari Damacy, and it shines brightly
08:10with this new lick of paint.
08:11The interactions between the prince and the king of the cosmos is both charming and of course
08:16quite strange, and always makes you scratch your head in confusion.
08:20But it matters not, since you have more stuff to roll up in order to save the day.
08:31Tokyo Jungle
08:39Now we rarely hear anybody at all talk about this completely bonkers and insane game from
08:452012, published by Sony no less.
08:47One where you explore an urban environment as various animals, such as a Pomeranian dog,
08:53a lion, a deer, and yeah, even a chicken.
08:55Humans have seemingly vanished from this version of Tokyo, and it's now up to the animals to
09:00survive this apocalypse.
09:02I mean, come on, it's pretty easy to see why this game is odd, right?
09:06For a game that sees you play as cute, adorable animals, it's surprisingly brutal when it comes
09:11to battling other animals, fighting for survival, and just trying to eke out a new existence in
09:16this harrowing urban cityscape.
09:18Everything here just feels so surreal and eerie, like we as the players aren't actually meant to be
09:24seeing what we are seeing.
09:25It's all so unpredictable and weird that we can't help but be enticed as we scramble
09:30around each new area of the city.
09:40Untitled Goose Game
09:49One of the most recent games on this list, Untitled Goose Game is perfectly weird and perfectly
09:55awesome.
09:55You of course play as a goose, who would have thought, right?
09:58A dastardly and mischievous goose at that.
10:00Your goal is quite simple, as this goofy goose, move through a whimsical and bucolic village,
10:06causing mischief to the locals while checking things off of your goosey checklist.
10:09What makes this game so weird is really in the way the goose interacts with the locals
10:14and the environment.
10:15It's equal parts charming and of course hilarious.
10:18And it all just kind of still feels so wholesome despite the chaotic nature of causing some goose-like
10:23mayhem to those just going about their day.
10:26Plus, I mean, the game's art style, the sublime music, and the goose honks never fail
10:30to toss a big ol' smile on your face.
10:32Good times.
10:41Everything.
10:48You can literally play as anything and everything in this game.
10:52I mean, the game's title does kind of give that away.
10:55That of course is inherently weird, but man, it makes for a fun time.
10:59Overwhelming?
11:00Yes.
11:01But fun?
11:02Absolutely.
11:02Be it a tree, become a deer, how about a humble rock, or even a whole freaking galaxy.
11:08Yep, the universe and everything in it are quite literally at your fingertips.
11:12There really isn't much else to say here though.
11:15Play as everything and have a good time doing so.
11:23Jazzpunk.
11:26Do you have the MacGuffin?
11:30If you are looking for an indie game where the whole vibe is meant to be weird, then Jazzpunk
11:35should absolutely be on your radar.
11:37Set in a sort of retro-futuristic Cold War era, you play as a spy, Polyblank.
11:43The whole spy-centric, espionage-esque ambiance is really just a coating to the internals of
11:49this experience, one that thrives off of absurdity through and through.
11:53After all, this is a comedy adventure game with a James Bond-esque veneer.
11:57Everything here in Jazzpunk is deliberately crafted to be weird, surreal, and downright goofy,
12:02all in the best way possible.
12:04The game's non-linear sandbox nature can sometimes be overwhelming, but you are encouraged to
12:10interact with anyone and anything you can to, of course, see what humor lies therein.
12:15I guarantee you, there won't be one hint of foul play.
12:26Pony Island
12:34Created by Daniel Mullins of Inscription fame, 2016's Pony Island is a downright juxtaposition
12:41of a game.
12:42Now, when we say weird for a game like Pony Island, we actually sorta mean creepy.
12:47Yes, a game called Pony Island is incredibly disturbing despite what it might initially
12:52look like.
12:53What starts out as a retro arcade-style game with vibrant visuals very, very quickly devolves
12:59into full-on horror.
13:00You see, the game is actually possessed by a demon, which means it wants to mess with you
13:05and disturb you.
13:06Rules get broken, the game knows you are actually playing it, and things get blended together
13:11in surprisingly creepy and weird ways.
13:13Honestly, the less I say here about this game, the better, since it thrives on how it subverts
13:18expectations.
13:19Just be warned that Pony Island isn't what you think.
13:30Goat Simulator
13:37Long before the deluge of Shovelware Simulator, something we say in quotes, games that we see
13:43nowadays, there was Goat Simulator.
13:45Yes, a game where you obviously play as a derpy goat.
13:48Nothing more, nothing less honestly.
13:50Getting dropped into a wacky real life feeling locale, running around causing mischief as
13:55a goat, doing some stupid goat stunts with the game's crazy, crazy physics, and then just
14:00doing it all over again.
14:01The game was intentionally created to be buggy and broken at times, in order to make the most
14:06of the wackiness.
14:07It's one of those turn off your brain games where it never takes itself too seriously,
14:11and it will make you laugh as your oddball goat causes some cartoony mayhem to the locals.
14:23Frog Fractions
14:32Frog Fractions kind of sounds like one of those games you would play on a school computer back
14:36in the 90s, right?
14:37Well, no, not here in this case.
14:40Frog Fractions is anything but normal or typical.
14:43You are not going into this one hoping to actually learn Fractions.
14:46Instead, you go into this game for something completely surreal, always subverting your
14:51expectations.
14:52The game evolves, or I guess perhaps devolves, into one new thing to the next.
14:57What starts out as a froggy Fractions type game quickly moves into riding spaceships, playing
15:03a text adventure, and even playing as a high seas pirate.
15:06There's really no overarching goal or point here apart from letting you enjoy the game's
15:11absurdity as you hop from one wacky genre to the next, never knowing what's coming next.
15:24Soda Drinker Pro
15:26I wish I could plant a soda and watch it grow as the bees pollinate the soda plants.
15:33So have you ever wanted to become an esports juggernaut where fame and fortune follow you?
15:38Well, have you ever thought about diving into the world of Soda Drinker Pro in order to achieve that goal?
15:43Well, sadly for those dreams, Soda Drinker Pro isn't some high caliber competitive soda drinking game,
15:50but is instead a slow paced, mundane experience where you wander around drinking soda just for the heck of it.
15:56This is, after all, a game about nothing specific really. Drink some soda, explore a bit, drink more soda, ponder
16:03your life choices that led you to actually playing Soda Drinker Pro, laugh at the game's self-awareness, rinse and
16:09repeat.
16:16Kung Fu Rider
16:24How a game concept like this one gets greenlit is beyond me, but I'm so glad it exists because this
16:30game is just down-ray bananas, in the best way possible, of course.
16:34So here's the elevator pitch. Avoid the grasp of the mob as you barrel your way down city streets on
16:41shopping carts, office chairs, pink horse rolly things, and more,
16:45gathering up tons of money and throwing down some radical moves and tricks Tony Hawk style.
16:50Pretty darn bonkers, right?
17:01Dropsy
17:07This game's premise will either be charming and heartwarming, or bone chilling and creepy, depending on the type of person
17:14you are, especially when it comes to clowns.
17:17You see, in Dropsy, you play as a silent clown, one shunned by his town, and the only way for
17:23him to actually communicate with others is through gestures and sounds.
17:27Like, say, randomly hugging a local? Yeah, I did say it could be creepy or charming, right?
17:33Well, the game's dark humor and overtones are tempered by some genuinely heartfelt moments and silly jokes, but you still
17:40kind of feel uncomfortable just experiencing it.
17:43Dropsy's off-kilter visuals, art, and sound design perfectly fuel the overarching weirdness of this game, one that breaks the
17:50rulebook for traditional adventure games.
17:52Enter this one at your own risk, you know, especially because of the clowns.
18:03Octodad, Dadliest Catch
18:04Abazor action figures are back in stock by popular demand.
18:10An octopus who happens to be disguising himself as a dad in an otherwise normal family.
18:15Sounds like a pretty typical game, right?
18:17Well, Octodad just wants to be a human after all, a normal human at that, hence why he somehow found
18:23his way into having a normal-ish family.
18:26One that somehow doesn't realize he is an octopus, I guess?
18:29This game just oozes zany humor and over-the-top gameplay, since it relies on physical gags via wonky physics
18:36and movements.
18:37Basically, just pretend to be a human, doing normal human things, never giving away your true identity as an octopus.
18:44It's simple, really.
18:45Just reverse ski, Dad!
18:51Had a full boyfriend.
19:00Yeah, um, I don't actually even know where to start with this one in all honesty.
19:04This is easily one of the most absurd and weird games out there.
19:08Had a full boyfriend is a dating sim with birds.
19:12Yep, it's a thing apparently.
19:14If you ever wanted to question reality itself, then I guess try out this game.
19:18You, of course, I guess, play as a human who attends a full-on bird school.
19:23But these birds act like humans.
19:25I mean, perhaps they should have actually invited Octodad over, he'd fit right in.
19:29This darkly comedic and often serious, yet oddly heartfelt visual novel slash dating sim is constantly crazy and off-kilter.
19:37But somehow you do get attached to these birds the deeper the game leans into its mysteries and narrative threads.
19:43Clearly, someone flew the coop when they created this game.
19:46Now, if you'll excuse me, I need a coffee break as I question my life choices that led me here.
20:00So, what did you think of our list?
20:02Are there any weird and wacky games from the 2010s that we missed?
