00:00All right, I'm told some more updates are coming in and this is ahead of the Tamil Nadu polls here
00:06in the country.
00:07We are told it's going to be a big setback for Vijay.
00:10Now, TVK sources saying that no not to Vijay's Pirambu rally because of lack of space.
00:18Permission for Vijay's rally has been denied.
00:21The rally was expected to happen tomorrow, remember, and that permission has just not come in.
00:28Also, TVK has given a request letter citing permission for almost 3,000 people at the venue.
00:35Remember the background, the rally, the canoe that had gone, had turned into a stampede.
00:41That is the backdrop on which the decision has been taken, it seems.
00:45Officials have denied permission stating the venue that was decided is too constricted and for having many people, so many
00:53people in one arena.
00:54And this comes right a day before the rally, which is really a setback in a way for Vijay.
01:01It was said to be held tomorrow at 10 a.m.
01:06My colleague Aniga joins us for more details on this.
01:10Aniga, permission denied, rally was tomorrow.
01:14Do we have a response on what Vijay is going to do?
01:17Listen, folks, Vijay is too close, Adhavarjuna and Sengotian are on their way to secretariat to sort of seek a
01:25clarification as to why is it that the permission was declined.
01:28In fact, Adhavarjuna and Sengotian will also likely be applying for a re-permission because all arrangements from TVK's side
01:36have been made tomorrow to hold that campaign.
01:40In fact, for a few other constituencies as well, Vijay had sought permission to campaign in Chennai.
01:45But it looks like authorities have declined the permission citing lack of space.
01:50The authorities are of the view that the area which Vijay had sought was very constricted in terms of area
01:56which really cannot accommodate just 3,000 people.
02:00In fact, if Vijay comes, almost the whole of Chennai would just come just to see Vijay.
02:04And the amount of space that Perambur holds is not possible to accommodate that many people.
02:10And in order to prevent any untoward incident like how and what happened in Karoos, authorities this time looks like
02:16are being all the more careful.
02:18In fact, the main justification as to given by the administration as to why the permission could have been declined
02:24is about the protocol.
02:26In fact, this morning, Chennai's Corporation Commissioner Kumar Gurubaran was speaking to India why he said that Vijay has to
02:32follow protocol.
02:33It's not okay if you just knock in on our doors and submit an application 24 hours prior.
02:37The proper protocol is to apply online at the Suvidha portal which Vijay has not followed.
02:43And therefore, that could also be one of the contributing reasons why Vijay's permission could have been declined apart from
02:49lack of space.
02:50Right. But Anaka, his movie not being allowed to be released, his rally is getting this pushback.
02:57The cases, CBI cases which are not held in the state but here in the capital as well.
03:03All of this sort of Vijay has picked up and said that he's been targeted especially because he's not allying
03:09with anyone in the state over there.
03:12Help us understand these restrictions, these permissions.
03:17Are all rallies at the moment following this protocol across party lines?
03:25Dr. Edapadi Paraniswamy also started off his election campaign just two days back in Mailapur.
03:30In fact, today he's also having another campaign in Alundur which is in Chennai.
03:34So, the other parties seem to be seamlessly having their election campaigns going on in Chennai.
03:39But somehow when it comes to TVKs, Vijay, there seems to be a lot more scrutiny.
03:43And the reason that the authorities give is that the kind of crowd that comes to Vijay is just uncontrollable.
03:48So, that forces us to have a lot more scrutiny because we've already been bitten once.
03:54We saw what happened in Karur where 41 people died.
03:57So, we don't want another Karur to happen anywhere else ever in the future.
04:01And that's why the authorities are saying that we need a lot more time to decide if the area can
04:06really hold on to that many people.
04:08In fact, if Vijay comes, it's not just TVKs followers that come.
04:12We're talking about the fans that Vijay has built over the last 35 years.
04:15That kind of crowd, can Perambur, can it handle, can such a constricted road handle?
04:20That's the big question mark.
04:22And it looks like the authorities are being cautious at the moment.
04:25But still, not all doors are closed.
04:27In about 10 to 15 minutes, we can expect Adhavarjuna and Sengotian to come to secretariat and meet with the
04:33officers.
04:34In fact, a re-permission will also be sought.
04:37And an alternative venue would also be likely sought by the TVKs to sort of clear the roadblocks
04:43and make sure that Vijay campaigns in Vijay, in Perambur,
04:47because it is quite likely that Vijay might contest from Perambur as an MLA candidate.
04:52All right.
04:53So, that's an interesting seat and interesting developments that are coming in as well.
04:58Thanks, Anaka, for joining us with the very latest as the heat for Battleground Tamil Nadu gets on.
