00:01Here at the San Diego Zoo, our two, three and a half month old Malayan Tiger Cubs are now going
00:05on exhibit every day and getting a little bit braver every day.
00:08First couple days they didn't really want to go out, they were a little scared, but now they follow mom
00:12right out.
00:13Sometimes the one Connor is a little bit more brave and the other one actually leads the way.
00:17Christopher is a little bit more hesitant.
00:19Connor and Christopher are really different. Connor has, from day one, has always been the most bold.
00:22He's the one who comes in first, he's the one that marches out first, he comes in first for training.
00:26A little bit more advanced, eats a lot more than his brother.
00:30Whereas Christopher hangs back a little bit, he's a little bit quieter.
00:33Whereas Connor is going to let you know he's there and he's going to let you know right away.
00:36Christopher hangs back, lets his brother do the, be the brave one and then he kind of comes up after
00:41that.
00:41But they're both still really cute, they're both really playful and they're having a great time.
00:45By three months they're getting around well enough that we start working on getting them out on exhibit.
00:50They do have all their teeth, they have all the vocalizations of a tiger.
00:54It's okay.
00:55And at three and a half months they generally start to eat solid food.
00:58Though they will nurse until they're about five months.
01:00So right now they're kind of eating and drinking as much as they possibly can.
01:03But right now they're going everywhere they possibly can.
01:05They follow mom a lot.
01:06By 11 they're about really tired and they're hanging by the door ready for a nap, ready to come in.
01:10Which will get better as they get a little bit stronger.
01:13They're just still there.
01:15We're at the San Diego Zoo Tiger River Trails Tiger Exhibit.
01:18And we put pumpkins on exhibit for the cubs this morning.
01:21Give them a little enrichment and get them moving around for everybody.
01:24They had meat in them.
01:25They like to play with anything and squash anything they can.
01:27But in order to make them a little more active, we put some meat in their form.
01:30They pair them up a little bit more.
01:33They are out for a short time in the morning.
01:35We're just taking minutes and back.
01:36And we're adults here.
01:38They're six months.
01:39They're extremely curious, extremely obnoxious.
01:41They terrorize each other.
01:43They terrorize their mother.
01:44They terrorize us.
01:45Anything that they can stalk and attack, they will do that.
01:49And they're just little handfuls.
01:50They're like little children out there.
01:52They run around like crazy.
01:53Then they get really tired and they pass out for a while.
02:03Any chance they get to startle or scare the other one or just attack them so they can
02:06practice their attack mode, which is normal behavior.
02:09So anything they can do, anything they can tear up and run around with that they can carry
02:12in their mouth and keep away from the others, they'll do that too.
02:21If you come to the zoo, our tiger cubs will be on exhibit every day.
02:24And they gain at least two pounds a week.
02:27And probably in another six months, they'll be about 200 pounds like their mother.
02:40Connor and Christopher are doing great.
02:42Still getting along well, doing well with mom.
02:45Just as rambunctious as ever.
02:47They're over 100 pounds now, almost 110 pounds each, growing very fast every week.
02:52From birth, they've had different personalities.
02:55Connor has always been my, you know, little bold boy.
02:57He walks out first thing.
02:59He's just the most affectionate probably with us.
03:02He'll push Christopher out of the way to get attention.
03:05And he's just always just been like, I'm going to come here.
03:07I'm going to do that and everybody out of my way.
03:09Christopher's always been a little bit more hesitant,
03:11but a little bit quicker on figuring certain things out.
03:14Like he figured out how to get on our shelves quicker.
03:16He's also, when it comes to food, he has no qualms about turning on Connor
03:21and stealing all his rats and such.
03:22He's a little bully when it comes to food.
03:25Mecca's your typical tiger mom.
03:27She will discipline them and they do tend to stay away when she's in a bad mood or angry at
03:31them.
03:31But otherwise, they still look to her for support.
03:33They still look to her for protection and spend a good portion of their day with her.
03:37But they are, you know, adventurous little cubs and they spend a good portion of their day playing too
03:42and finding their own ways to amuse themselves.
03:44Connor will always push Christopher out of the way because Connor's just,
03:47he wants to get his side rubbed or he wants something.
03:49You know, he does a lot of that.
03:51So they just enjoy me talking to them.
03:53But also if I can bring some sort of new toy, they like that too.
03:56They don't mind getting wet.
03:58I usually find them wet at some point in the afternoon.
04:00I don't care how warm or cold it is.
04:02They're just, they have to get into everything and play.
04:04And they do like to go underneath our waterfall and also in our shallower pools.
04:09Water doesn't bother them.
04:10Mom doesn't like it as much, but the boys don't care.
