00:19We're in front of the River Hippo exhibit at the San Diego Zoo
00:22and we just let mother and eight-week-old calf out on exhibit.
00:26That would be Funani and Devi.
00:33They have an activity session for 10 to 35 minutes usually
00:37on days that they're out on exhibit, which are Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday.
00:42And the activity session consists of the baby trying to explore the entire exhibit pool
00:46and mom trying to corral it up into shallow water.

01:08Highly active. The older the kid gets, the more able it is, physically able, to extend its time out on
01:14exhibit moving around.
01:15Hippos have a membrane over their eyes that allows them to see us outside the exhibit much like we can
01:22see them through the glass.
01:23And so what they were doing this morning while you were filming was watching you watch them.
