00:00The Seventh-day Adventist pastor and former temporary senator tells The Morning Edition he has met with Samaru's father and
00:07relatives following the January 20th shooting, which also left Samaru's girlfriend critically injured.
00:14Videos circulating after the incident appeared to show a figure raising their hands as officers approached the vehicle before shots
00:22were fired.
00:23Pastor Dutton says the commissioner's update was necessary, but stresses the family and the wider public are still seeking answers.
00:33Protest or no protest, the next protest that was planned, apparently there's a challenge. I want to say that this
00:40case is not going away anywhere soon. This case will be fueled by concerned citizens who have challenges with some
00:52of the officers of the law. There are some who are wonderful people and there are some who are not
00:58wonderful in no way at all.
01:00He tells us Samaru's father maintains that his son's death will have purpose.
01:07Joshua's dad understands this thing we theologians talk about, the kairotic moment. This is the moment. This is the watershed.
01:16And he is saying that Joshua's death will not be in vain.
01:21He believes that there is a divine hand still operating and this is where we have reached and this case
01:29will redone to the benefit of the country. This is what he is saying. And I am truly hoping that
01:36way.
01:36Pastor Dutton also weighs in on the killing of Danny Guerra and another associate days later, noting that illegal quarrying
01:45is a serious and growing concern that must be addressed.
01:48He is also urging politicians and those in authority to avoid associations with criminal elements.
01:55Now this is perhaps the most challenging statement I would make today. Businessmen, parliamentarians, politicians, religious leaders, we must have
02:09no ties whatsoever with crooked elements in the country.
02:13Whether they support our church, whether they support our party, whether they support our party, we must have no ties
02:20with those who are hurting us.
