00:08hello and welcome back to another exciting episode today we are going to talk about and
00:15explore the dolphin house museum which is less of a museum and more of an eclectic artistry
00:24by a very good bimini artist and self-proclaimed bimini historian sir ashley saunders
00:35so come along with us and see what we can see
00:43at the time of our visit they were open from 10 a.m to 6 p.m island time and
00:50adults were 20
00:52children three and up were 10 and toddlers were free however for some reason the day that we were
01:02there he decided to give a discount to senior citizens and they were 10 each however he didn't
01:09explain what senior citizens were so he discharged us all 10 each but while you're waiting for the
01:17tour don't forget to check out the outside you're going to find a lot of really interesting stuff
01:22and the day we were there we actually got to meet sir ashley himself so to get things started
01:29why don't we hear from him first
01:32built with a jump built with a shovel ain't no machine touch this building
01:41ain't no crew i'm the crew plus the captain ain't no payroll americans call it a labor of love
01:50it's built with love not money and if i was being paid i'd have been a millionaire
01:56there ain't no payroll there's a lot of things people don't know about sir ashley b saunders but
02:04according to their websites and print literature sir ashley was born and raised on the island of
02:11behemite bahamas now he is president of the bimini historical society and vice president of the bimini
02:20museum you could only make one dolphin house you can't make two the artists and me are sleeping folks
02:29let me tell you what happened what the miracle is the artists and me are sleeping and the dolphins
02:34woken up they touched my heart and brought the artists over me i call myself a dolphin inspired artist
02:42sir ashley attended the university of wisconsin at madison on a bahama scholarship where he graduated with
02:50a bachelor's of arts degree in philosophy now he also did postgraduate work in philosophy for
02:57children at harvard university in cambridge massachusetts beyond that sir ashley is an internationally
03:06recognized author and a poet in fact he even won their prestigious and excuse my pronunciation of this
03:15the sasik award in the writer category in 2000 now he's written three volumes on the history of
03:24bimini which are the only series of history books written about the bohemian island by a native
03:31of the bahamas to date now in addition he also wrote four books on island poetry now some of his
03:41poetry
03:41appears in the bohemian anthology a text used at the college of the bahamas and the secondary school
03:49level another interesting little known fact is that sir ashley retired from the bimini all age school
03:57after working for 30 years as a distinguished educator now since 1993 sir ashley has been building the
04:07dolphin house museum which also serves as his home and is bimini's most unique and artistic structure
04:15visited by tourists like us from every continent on earth now this dolphin house museum is considered a
04:24poem in stone and is a three-story dolphin and ocean inspired museum built using recycled materials by local
04:34bimanite author and historian sir ashley saunders now this dolphin house museum is kind of nicknamed
04:42the poem in stone and is a three-story dolphin and ocean inspired museum and incredibly artistic structure
04:53to this day sir ashley still collects items and adds to this structure in fact he's even added on a
05:01little gift shop for some souvenir purchases which you get to see at the end of the video and at
05:08the
05:08end of your tour the dolphin house museum is bimini's most unique and artistic structure and of course must be
05:16seen
05:17even though you're seeing it here on video it really does not portray the awesomeness that you get and the
05:25feeling that you get when you're in this structure it is absolutely fantastic and he has little tidbits
05:34here and there people from all over the united states has sent old license plates and supposedly he has all
05:4250 states i thought that was kind of neat he even has one of hemingway's original fishing poles and one
05:51that
05:52you can see in one of his famous pictures which is in the room that he calls the hemingway room
05:59makes sense
06:00well there's all kinds of memorabilia of him there little quotes and tidbits in fact a standout in this
06:08room that you want to keep an eye out for is the actual metal that the queen put around sir
06:16ashley saunders
06:17neck to make him a knight i just thought that was really neat to see and continuing on the tour
06:25it
06:25just a plethora of other things that pleasantly assault the eyes that you will never see in another
06:34house ever i don't think i just can't say enough on how incredible this place is and in all that
06:43he just
06:44did this with a shovel and his own hands in fact he even put the shovel that he used into
06:50the wall
06:51as a memorial to the hard work of the shovel which i thought was a really cool nice touch
06:58and here's luan standing under a tiara thinking that she's a princess or something
07:05just before you go out to go to the top level you come across their gift shop don't forget to
07:12look
07:12around there's really neat stuff there as well
07:33if it's a nice day and they open up the top roof level
07:38i highly suggest you go up there for a pleasant surprise
07:45well this was worth the price of admission just up here oh yeah imagine just look at these views oh
07:53my
