Video diario sulle musiche per Streets of Rage 4.
Trascrizione
00:01I always wanted to do video games and music was always part of my life so I
00:06decided at the young age to do music for games. I'm Olivier de Riviere and I'm the main composer
00:13on Streets of Rage 4. There is a big story behind me being involved into Streets of Rage 4
00:20because an hour before meeting for the first time with Serial I was discussing with a friend of
00:26mine and we were discussing Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack and we were like it's been such a
00:32long time we haven't had a Streets of Rage game you know and it was like a sort of a
00:38good conversation
00:39and then I meet Serial and Serial is like oh you know Olivier de Riviere I'd like you to work
00:45with
00:45me maybe you know let's introduce you with my next game and I was like okay what's your next game
00:50and then he tells me it's Streets of Rage 4 and I start laughing because I think that's
00:56that's a good joke guys but you know I I know where it comes from and he showed me the
01:02trailer
01:03and I couldn't believe it I couldn't believe the fact that number one I had just discussed this
01:08you know with a friend of mine like few minutes ago and then this very game is happening and then
01:14he was asking me to do the score I was like oh I don't know you know basically we knew
01:21that the
01:22music in Streets of Rage series was something super important so that has been a central subject for
01:28us since the beginning basically we've been starting to think about it with the whole team very early in
01:36the process and we had many different ideas but the fans and people in general in general will be
01:42expecting something quite unique and we wanted as well to do something innovative but at the same time
01:48that would be up to the legacy of the series we wanted to get together the original spirits of
01:56the series with the sound of Yuzo Koshiro, Motohiro Kawashima but as well something more modern something
02:03that would sound like a game from 2019 our guess on that was that we had to gather different artists
02:10on
02:10the game the original artists of course artists with influence from Japanese games from the 80s 90s but
02:20as well as more modern artists from the west and we thought it was a cool idea and so we
02:27started to
02:27kind of think think about different artists that are maybe younger artists less famous artists but
02:32they that are not actually video game composers but artists that do music for for nowadays basically we
02:39started to work with artists like Grounded's Lava Excel Middleton but we also in the end choose to work
02:52with artists that are working in the video game industry but I've had have a very special touch
02:58like for example Scaddle which is a great artist that worked on Hotline Miami
03:08so the idea was to say okay we need kind of an artist that would like do most of the
03:14OST but in a very
03:15special way and very modern way but in the same spirit as it was in the in the previous series
03:20and
03:20and that's when basically we started to think about oh yeah looking at his work looking at everything
03:26he did in in his different works in the past for like okay that's something that really gets the the
03:33perfect fusion between gameplay and music and Streets of Rage is all about the fusion between gameplay and
03:40music playing Streets of Rage is like listening to an album but like it would be kind of an interactive
03:45album the first feeling was I mean Koshiro that was the first feeling and always it has a he has
03:57always been you know attached with this project from my own start to the very end of the project so
04:04that was the first thought the only thing that I told myself was I don't want to go with it
04:10his style
04:11that's the first thing because he's unique and to go trying to mimic what he's done would be I guess
04:20something that would feel wrong to everybody myself included so it was not to be disrespectful but also
04:29to let him you know have his own take because he's part of the project and that's what's really amazing
04:36for me is like he in he injects the flavor of Streets of Rage and I take it from there
04:44and I as the game is
04:46doing you know more than I is to take you know on my own but he's still around for sure
05:11, it's not very good at it I think I can do more than that at this point
05:13in a big year皆さんご存じのようにベアナックル更新新はMega
07:38out of the scope perché tutti era libero, depending su loro stile o genre che volevo fare.
08:24Well, the whole soundtrack for the levels is following the story of the game, for sure.
08:30And without telling anything, you know, you start in the streets,
08:35and it's very dirty, and it's very Streets of Rage.
08:38And the idea was, at some point, to be, ok, as it is a progression,
08:44let's just think of it as if it was a DG set.
08:48So let's start with something that is more like, let's say, downbeat,
08:52something that is a little slow, you know, and then the more you progress in the game,
08:58the more you will feel the urge and the sense of, let's say, adrenaline.
09:04Like, you would enter a level that, I won't describe the level itself,
09:08but, you know, with the music, so you would have, like, the intro,
09:10to go, so very dubstep.
09:17And there is this feeling, and now you have the first exposure of the melody.
09:27And then, you know, depending, you're moving on, so to the next section,
09:33so the music will go, like, that.
09:36So no more melodies, but you have this very feeling of dubstep.
09:40I mean, for people that want to know, there is, like, storm, waves,
09:44so that's why the music is so, like, patatata.
09:46It's to illustrate the visuals right now.
09:49And then something happens, and then you have the melody back.
10:08So that's the same melody as the beginning,
10:11and then you move on to the next section,
10:13and it will become a little more difficult.
10:20Soon enough, like here.
10:24Now the game is becoming more intense, the gameplay,
10:27so music has to go like this.
10:29A little Streets of Rage flavor.
10:36And we go.
10:39And then, after this section, we're going elsewhere,
10:42and so the music will follow up with the melody again.
10:48And you finish the level.
10:49So it's a very condensed version.
10:52Of course, the music explore, you know, is much longer,
10:55with a lot of variations, but here you have, like, the structures.
10:59Working on a game like Streets of Rage 4 is very special for me
11:02and for all the team.
11:03I remember playing the first one on the Game Gear
11:08at the backseat of my parents' car.
11:11And basically, last summer, I was in a car with Yuzo Koshiro
11:17and MotoHiro Kawashima, and it just felt amazing.
11:21It's just, I think, something that you don't have lots of time in your life.
11:26So we really want to make the best out of it,
11:29and we're super excited to show it to everyone.
11:32Working on Streets of Rage 4 is scary as hell.
11:36That's...
11:37I'm very scared. I was scared. I'm still scared.
11:40I don't know. It's something that I have never done.
11:44And on every aspect.
11:46And it's a big honor.
11:48I feel like, you know, I hope I gave the best that I could.
11:52And this is what I did.
11:54And I hope that players will enjoy it.
11:57But I don't know.
11:58I mean, it's very difficult to come after such legend,
12:03legendary composers,
12:04and I'm very grateful to be part of the project.
