00:00Hmm, if you think about it, we love concepts like the Sorcerer's Stone, the Fountain of Youth, and, okay, vampires,
00:07for one common reason.
00:09We all want to know how it would be to have everlasting life.
00:14Some researchers argue that there's no limit to how long we can live.
00:18The no-limit camp argues that as long as we keep making scientific advancements and taking care of ourselves,
00:25we could potentially live forever, or until you spend down your savings.
00:29Meanwhile, the Finite Lifespan fellas say that our bodies have a built-in expiration date, and there's only so much
00:36we can do to push it back.
00:37A study suggests that the maximum human lifespan may be around 150 years.
00:44The researchers analyzed data about the world's oldest individuals over the past few decades, and concluded that there is an
00:51expiration date for our lives.
00:52Overall, the study provides new insights into the limits of the human lifespan, and may help guide future research into
01:00the biology of aging and the development of new treatments for age-related diseases.
01:05So, let's hypothesize that we can actually push the inevitable end off as long as possible.
01:11What if we live for 300 years?
01:14In this way, we would still be stuck with a finite lifespan, but it wouldn't be too short.
01:19Living forever may not be as appealing, because we don't want to reach a point where we get so bored
01:25and wish to have a finite life.
01:28Living for 300 years would significantly impact every aspect of life.
01:33I'll start with the concept of aging and how we perceive it.
01:36I know being young and old is subjective, but we are thought of as middle-aged at around 50 years
01:43old in our current lifespan.
01:44If our lifespan triples, at 50 years old, we might be considered a teenager.
01:50Since we have more than two centuries to live, it's like every minute we had suddenly became three minutes long.
01:56When we hit the age of 30, we feel like it's a milestone, and that one-third of our life
02:01is over.
02:02But with a longer lifespan, we wouldn't experience this feeling until we reach the age of 100.
02:10Here, the critical aspect is whether we are going to keep the same biological and emotional capacity or not.
02:16Normally, our adolescent brain continues to develop and doesn't reach full maturity until approximately 25 to 30 years of age.
02:25In my scenario, this notion will remain the same.
02:28Yet, we will probably go to school for a more extended period and learn a whole bunch of new things.
02:34Time to speak new languages. How about organ replacement and AI lectures?
02:39The education system and curriculum will indeed be changed.
02:42We would have more time to read and learn.
02:46You get your diploma, or you don't pursue higher education, and spare that time to master a skill, like being
02:53a carpenter.
02:54Now you need to earn money. Ah, I'm sure that concept won't change.
02:58Let's find you a job.
02:59You probably have different options to choose from, and retirement might not be necessary until much later in life.
03:06In this way, you might have extra time to explore different careers and interests, pursue your goals, take risks, and
03:13develop your career.
03:15Let's talk about relationships.
03:17Oh, we now have situationships, open relationships, and so on.
03:22I can't imagine the new dynamics we would have in a longer life.
03:25The age of marriage and the decision to start a family will all transform.
03:31Family structures and roles would change to accommodate these longer lifespans.
03:35You'd be grandparents, maybe at the age of 230.
03:39Yet, it could turn into a magical experience.
03:42We could have even deeper bonds.
03:45Imagine you've got centuries to hang out with your best friend.
03:48We would have more time to get to know each other and explore our common interests.
03:53It's not just us who got to experience the trial version of eternity.
03:58The world's resources would be affected too.
04:00We would have much longer lives to reproduce.
04:03We either overpopulate the globe or keep our existing family member numbers and become underpopulated.
04:10If we overpopulate, we'll have to fight for resources.
04:14This can quickly turn into a dystopian book.
04:17You know what?
04:17I really like this idea.
04:19I could try writing a book in my three-centuries-long alternative life.
04:23Anyway, it's not just the resources.
04:26Ecosystems, animals, and plants would all be affected by us.
04:30Hopefully, we'll find new ways to prevent or recover from these problems.
04:34How do we solve these issues, you might ask?
04:37By advances in science and technology.
04:40We would have more time to devote to research and development.
04:43We will explore the unknown territories of our planet and universe via science and technology.
04:49This could lead to breakthroughs in medicine, energy, transportation, and other fields.
04:54I mean, think of astrophysics.
04:56We could even find ways to travel to other planets.
04:59Since our lifespan is extended, astronauts may complete presumably impossible expeditions.
05:06In our hypothetical situation, we'd age at a slower pace.
05:10Since we don't wake up one day and start living till 300,
05:14medical improvements should be responsible for providing a longer life for us.
05:18New treatments and interventions would be there to help people live healthier.
05:23Healthcare policies and practices will change too.
05:26Good luck to health insurance companies and life insurance.
05:30Now, let's talk wellness.
05:59Next up, we have the economy.
06:01It's one of the most important areas that'll be affected by our longer lifespan.
06:06It could potentially result in a larger workforce and more accumulated wealth over time.
06:12Or it could lead to a higher demand for resources like food and housing.
06:16Then the states have to be involved to keep the balance and help people meet their needs.
06:21Finance, the economy, and everyday life have to find new ways to coexist.
06:26If we had a chance to see 2323, maybe we wouldn't use paper money and coins, but move on to
06:33a completely digital system.
06:35But hey, we already have that right now.
06:38Think of PayPal, debit cards, and the like.
06:40It's all digital.
06:42But I digress.
06:44Art and culture.
06:45Think of your favorite writer or director.
06:48What if they had decades more to produce amazing art pieces?
06:51What about physiology and sociology?
06:54Try to picture the new ideas and schools that will come.
06:58Such a drastic change in the lifespan would also result in a fundamental shift in the intellectual sense.
07:04It alters the way we think and spend our time.
07:07It changes resources and our entire interpretation of life.
07:12This change can lead to a shift in the way we consume products, such as clothes.
07:17Have you heard of the term quiet luxury?
07:20It refers to high-quality and subtly stylish items that are expensive.
07:25It's associated with the popular HBO series Succession.
07:29Quiet luxury brands are only recognizable to those who are in the know.
07:33And they're appreciated for their refined aesthetics that go beyond their price tags.
07:38The trend of conspicuous logos and branding is starting to decrease for the consumers of these products.
07:44Maybe in the future, there'll be times when people have found ways to truly embrace a fashion style
07:50that merges sustainability, accessibility, and the great look all together.
07:56An average American will meet 10,000 people in their lifetime.
08:00That's a lot of people, y'all.
08:01Now, let's do some math.
08:04Out of those 10,000 people we meet, how many will we make an impact on?
08:08If we're lucky, maybe 25.
08:11That doesn't sound too impressive, does it?
08:13But even the smallest act of kindness can create a ripple effect that changes the course of someone's life.
08:20And when you add up all those little acts of kindness, they can make a world of difference.
08:25If we live for an additional 200 years, this number will surely increase.
08:30Personally, I'm a member of the team YOLO.
08:33You only live once.
08:35Why not make the most of it?
08:37Me?
08:37Well, I really don't want to live for hundreds of years if I can't bring my dog with me.
08:43The hardest thing on the planet is to get out of a warm bed early in the morning.
08:48The second most challenging thing in the world is to sit in an office and force yourself to start working.
08:54It's hard to read a big book and cook your own food.
08:58It's almost impossible to earn a lot of money.
09:00Do sports?
09:02It's something fantastic.
09:03Keeping a dog at home and walking it several times a day is just senseless.
09:07How do people live this tough life?
09:12Almost every day, Lewis thinks about these things.
09:15And he is the laziest person in the world who loves only one thing, watching TV series and movies.
09:23So, one day, he wakes up in a 2D flat body.
09:28The volume of his muscles and bones has decreased by almost 99%.
09:32He can't turn off the alarm because his body is too thin and barely emits heat.
09:38Under the loud ringing of sirens, he tries to pull off the blanket, but it's too heavy.
09:44Lewis crawls out of bed.
09:46He looks at himself in the mirror in horror, stands sideways, and becomes almost invisible.
09:52He tries to scream, but his voice sounds like a mosquito squeak.
09:58The fridge door is as heavy as the door in a bank vault.
10:01An apple on the table weighs like a barbell.
10:05Lewis needs to go to the toilet, but can't press the handle.
10:09Fortunately, he's thin enough to squeeze through the gap between the door and the wall.
10:15He has to go to work, but he has to eat something first.
10:19He sees the breadcrumbs he hasn't cleaned up from last night's dinner.
10:23He picks up and swallows a couple of them.
10:26His stomach is super small now, so two tiny crumbs seem as heavy as two plates of spaghetti.
10:33Now he needs to drink some water.
10:35All the bottles are closed, and he doesn't have the strength to unscrew the lids.
10:40Fortunately, water is dripping from the tap.
10:43Lewis drinks just one drop, but feels like he's had two cans of soda.
10:49He leaves the house, runs across the road, and gets under a car.
10:54Our guy is invisible to the driver, because he's standing sideways.
10:59But thanks to his light weight, Lewis doesn't get any damage.
11:03He flies off to the side, but he can't land anymore.
11:07The wind blows and lifts Lewis up.
11:12He tries to hold on to the lampposts and traffic lights, but his thin hands are too weak.
11:17The wind is taking him higher and higher.
11:20Lewis flies past the birds and the top floors.
11:23The temperature is getting too cold for his body.
11:26He freezes, but the wind changes its direction and takes him down.
11:32Someone throws a banana peel out the window.
11:35Lewis grabs it and uses it to descend safely.
11:38He finally reaches the road and ties the banana peel to his laces.
11:43He's walking slowly, since it's hard.
11:46The peel seems as heavy as a cart loaded with bricks.
11:50He crosses the street and falls every time people push him on the shoulder.
11:56Lewis screams back at them, but they don't even hear him.
11:59Exhausted, he gets to his office.
12:01The boss scolds Lewis for being late.
12:04Lewis' tiny ears are now sensitive to all sound waves.
12:08So the boss's words seem very loud and low, as if they come from a large speaker.
12:13The boss doesn't care that Lewis is flat.
12:16He wants all the work done.
12:19Lewis tries to take a stack of papers, but it's too heavy.
12:23So he moves one sheet at a time to his desk.
12:27Each page weighs like ten skateboards for him.
12:30Lewis moves three documents and feels like he's run a marathon.
12:34Then he sits at the computer, but the keyboard doesn't work.
12:38The keys don't get enough load.
12:41Lewis has to put a lot of effort into printing something.
12:44It's the end of the day, and Lewis has done only one percent of all the work.
12:49He comes to the office kitchen, sees a delicious sandwich, but can't bite it off completely.
12:54He breaks off tiny pieces of salad and bread.
12:57It makes him full.
13:00He notices that his hair is covered with frost.
13:03An icicle is growing on the tip of his nose.
13:06Why has the ice age begun in the office?
13:09Oh, it's just the air conditioner, lowered the temperature by one degree.
13:13But our hero is sensitive to the slightest fluctuations in the air.
13:17Exhausted, he leaves the office and enters the elevator.
13:21A crowd of people presses him from all sides.
13:24A drop of sweat from one guy's neck falls right on Lewis.
13:27Like a sheet of paper, he absorbs almost the entire drop.
13:32The elevator doors open, and Lewis gets out quickly.
13:35He runs out into the street.
13:37The wind is pretty strong, but the banana peel keeps him on the ground.
13:41It starts to rain.
13:43Just a few drops fall on the ground, but Lewis gets soaked through.
13:47Seconds later, Lewis feels like he's standing under a waterfall.
13:51It's hard to walk.
13:53He unhooks the peel and falls exhausted to the ground.
13:58He wakes up a couple of hours later.
14:00The sun is shining through the clouds.
14:02Lewis is completely dry.
14:04He feels like he's in the middle of a desert.
14:07He tries to raise his hand, but his skin is so dry that it hurts.
14:11At this moment, a street dog approaches him.
14:14It licks Lewis from head to toe.
14:16He stands up, pets the dog, and goes home.
14:20The animal follows him.
14:21He squeezes into the apartment under the door and falls into bed.
14:27The next morning, the alarm clock sounds too loud.
14:31Lewis tries to turn it off and feels terrible pain all over his body.
14:35His muscles got a huge load yesterday.
14:38Lewis wants to scream, but he can't.
14:41So, he cries.
14:42He's terrified that he literally can't do anything.
14:46He spends several days in bed and gets up only to use the bathroom and to fill his stomach with
14:51breadcrumbs and tap water.
14:53At some point, he realizes he can no longer live like this.
14:57He misses ordinary food, delicious drinks, and a normal lifestyle.
15:03He decides to work out.
15:05Every day, he does push-ups, squats, and pull-ups.
15:09His muscles are not so thin anymore.
15:11And now, after two months of hard training, he can lift up the laptop lid.
15:18At work, he carries three sheets of paper to his desk at a time and can type 200 words a
15:24day.
15:25He reads every document and understands that his job isn't that boring and pointless.
15:30The boss notices Lewis is motivated and raises his salary.
15:35Our hero tears off small pieces of vegetables and ham from other people's sandwiches.
15:40But he believes that he will cook his own sooner or later.
15:43Every day, the dog accompanies him from home to work.
15:47When the wind is strong, he grabs onto its fur.
15:50He's strong enough to unlock the door again, which means he can let the dog inside his house.
15:56Daily workouts and perseverance make Lewis happy.
15:59He feels better than at the time he had a normal body.
16:02An active lifestyle inspires Lewis to read more books.
16:06It turns out that literature is exciting.
16:09And so, one day, he wakes up in 3D.
16:14He feels like a superhero, ready to become the best chef in the world,
16:18earn a lot of money, and win an Olympic medal in any sport.
16:22He can do anything.
16:24Why didn't he appreciate it before?
16:26Now, life seems fascinating and full of meaning.
16:30But now, he's about to turn on the laptop to start watching a new TV show.
16:34One episode first, and all the achievements later, he thinks.
16:39Lewis used to put a lot of effort into opening the lid when he was in 2D.
16:43So now, he accidentally breaks the computer.
16:47Good for him.
16:48He realizes that it was a laziness trap.
16:51You work in a large nature reserve that's home to more than a thousand species of animals.
16:55At night, you drive through the territory in a jeep to see if everything's okay.
17:00Most of the animals are sleeping.
17:03Suddenly, you hear the monkeys screaming.
17:05They jump from branch to branch.
17:08A herd of horses runs out of the forest.
17:10They look worried, too.
17:12You hear many animals crying.
17:14Looks like some unknown strange thing has woken up and horrified the whole reserve.
17:19You see a flash in the night sky.
17:21It's a meteorite, and it's flying right towards you.
17:25You get in the car, hit the gas, and drive away as far as possible.
17:29The space rock falls right in front of you and throws your vehicle to the side.
17:34You pass out.
17:36The fallen meteorite emits some strange yellow energy.
17:40You're inside an overturned car, unconscious.
17:44All the animals have calmed down.
17:46Thousands of them silently approach the meteorite.
17:49Its energy envelops you and all the animals around.
17:53The more energy comes out, the smaller the space stone becomes.
17:58By the morning, the meteorite dissolves in the air.
18:01It has absorbed the animal powers and passed them on to you.
18:07You wake up in the grass near the car, surrounded by several people.
18:11These are the reserve employees and some guys in black suits.
18:15They study the crater in the ground and ask you what happened.
18:18You tell them about the meteorite, and they order you to go with them.
18:24One of them grabs you tightly by the shoulder.
18:26You don't like it, and you want to break out.
18:29Two men in black are holding you.
18:31You get angry and feel your muscles increase, and your skin becomes covered with fur.
18:36You quickly push the men away and roar.
18:40Your nails have turned into claws.
18:42You've received a bear's powers.
18:44Now you're just as strong and fierce.
18:47Agents in black are following you.
18:49You run away into the forest.
18:51You want to be faster and feel your spine changing its shape.
18:57Now you're running very fast on all fours.
19:00You've got the power of a cheetah, the fastest animal on earth.
19:04You're hiding in the forest.
19:05The agents are far behind you.
19:08You hear a helicopter from above.
19:11It shines a bright spotlight beam.
19:13Oh no, they'd noticed you.
19:16Agents use a megaphone to ask you to stop.
19:18But you know what awaits you.
19:20Labs, experiments, life in a cage.
19:23You've seen a lot of movies about it, so you won't just give up.
19:26You run out of the forest.
19:28They release darts at you.
19:30You quickly run to a large lake and dive inside.
19:33Webbing has grown on your arms and legs.
19:36Your feet are like flippers.
19:37Your legs fuse into one big tail.
19:40And you are now a walrus.
19:42You quickly swim across the lake and come ashore on the other side.
19:47Several cars and motorcycles are circling the lake to catch up with you.
19:51There's another forest ahead.
19:53But this time, it's too dense.
19:55There's not enough space to develop great speed.
19:58But you can get the strength of a monkey.
20:01Your hands get longer and your fingers become stronger.
20:04You jump up a tree, climb to the top, and inspect the reserve.
20:08You need to go south and get to a small town to eat and drink.
20:14After a couple of hours, you reach the reserve's border.
20:17Now you have to jump over a high fence.
20:20Your legs are getting strong.
20:22You jump like a kangaroo.
20:24But it's not high enough.
20:26You fall to the ground.
20:27The helicopter catches up to you.
20:29You get lizard powers.
20:32You get sticky scales on your palms.
20:34You quickly climb the concrete wall and jump to the other side.
20:39You find yourself in the tall grass.
20:42Agents are coming to you from all sides.
20:44You're thinking about a snake.
20:46Your arms and legs fuse with your body.
20:49Now you can crawl.
20:50You pass all the people and find yourself on the road.
20:55You see a car in the distance.
20:57Raise your hand and ask it to stop.
20:59Oh no, it's the agent's vehicle.
21:02They surround you.
21:03The searchlight from the helicopter is shining right on you.
21:06You have nowhere to go.
21:08But you don't really have to go.
21:11Your clothes tear on your back.
21:13Huge wings grow out of your shoulder blades.
21:16You rise into the air.
21:17It's pretty cold here.
21:18But the feathers on your body protect you from the wind.
21:21Great!
21:22You can fly.
21:23It's incredible.
21:25Ouch!
21:26You feel like someone has pinched you from behind.
21:29It's a dart.
21:30They got you.
21:31You want to sleep and fly down.
21:33You make a hard landing near a small wooden house.
21:37Agents are running after you.
21:38You get the powers of another animal and pass out.
21:43People in black are searching the house territory but can't find you.
21:47Maybe the dart with the sleeping pill didn't work on you?
21:50After a few minutes, they leave.
21:53Meanwhile, you're sleeping peacefully against the wall of the house.
21:56At the last second, you managed to get chameleon powers.
22:00You merged with the wall and became invisible.
22:05You sleep for a couple more hours.
22:07The dawn breaks.
22:08A rusty rover pulls into the yard.
22:11Some old man and a dog come out of there.
22:14It runs up to you and starts licking your face.
22:16The old man realizes that there's an invisible person in front of him.
22:20You come to your senses and tell the old man what happened to you.
22:25He gives you some food and clean clothes.
22:28You thank him and go away.
22:30Now you need to leave the country as soon as possible.
22:33You're thinking of a bat.
22:35Your legs become overgrown with wings and webbing.
22:38You have fangs.
22:40You fly without seeing anything.
22:43Your eyesight has gotten worse but your hearing is just fantastic.
22:47You have echolocation power and can emit ultrasounds at a high frequency.
22:51Somewhere in the distance, you hear a scream of a familiar person.
22:56Oh no!
22:57It's that old man!
22:58The agents attacked him!
23:00You turn around and fly straight to the house.
23:03One of the agents sees you.
23:04He's screaming in terror!
23:06You land and think about a rhino.
23:09Your body becomes enormous and your nose gets longer.
23:12You accelerate and knock down several agents.
23:15Then you turn over their car, run into the house and pull out the old man.
23:20He gets on your back as you're now a horse and you ride far away from there.
23:27You reach the mountains.
23:28The old man looks tired but grateful for the adventure.
23:31You can't share his joy because you don't know how it will end.
23:35You ask the old man to hide while you distract the pursuers.
23:40You're thinking of an animal.
23:42Your legs and arms turn into hooves.
23:44You're jumping up a cliff like a mountain goat.
23:47They can't get you here.
23:49But at that moment, the helicopter appears again.
23:52The agent is aiming a dart at you.
23:54Needles are growing on your back.
23:56You've got porcupine powers.
23:59You release a couple of needles into the agent.
24:01It distracts him for a few minutes.
24:04At this moment, a cougar jumps at you out of nowhere.
24:07It scratches you with its claws.
24:09You think about a lion and get its powers.
24:12You get on your back feet and growl loudly.
24:16The cougar gets scared and runs away.
24:19The helicopter is flying up.
24:21You speed up, jump off a cliff, and get the powers of the fastest bird in the world, the peregrine
24:28falcon.
24:28You dive down at great speed and land in the forest.
24:32Now you need to find the old man.
24:34You have a nose like a dog.
24:36Now you can smell your friend and walk towards him.
24:39At this moment, you come up with an excellent plan for how to stop those people in black.
