01:00Fix him.
01:00Don't stop firing!
01:03Blank him.
01:05And finish him.
01:10Of course, there's some leeway there. We've got to make it fun for the player.
01:13So this time around, we made a lot more freeform. We added a lot more shooter elements to it.
01:18In the past, we put such a strong emphasis on squad combat that we took a lot of control away
01:24from the player.
01:25Set up the MG over there!
01:27We realized along the way that ultimately what we needed to do was not neuter the player's ability to be
01:32powerful,
01:32but to make his squads even more powerful, to make them more relevant.
01:36Let's go!
01:37I tell my squad to suppress the enemy or kill the enemy.
01:39In fact, if I get really good at the game and I choose to play it this way, I can
01:42beat the game without ever firing a shot.
01:45Now the player's viewing his squad as more of a weapon rather than a squad.
01:59Destructible cover has made a huge difference just in the wow factor and keeping the game new.
02:04Just totally blow away a chunk of wall and like people were just so excited every time they see that.
02:08It's like really awesome. There's some people's reaction to that.
02:11Introduce is a bit of more of an element of time.
02:13You're behind a wall and that wall may not be there for very long.
02:16You have to use tactics, but you have to use those tactics quickly or you're not going to be around
02:20much longer.
02:21It's pretty technical, you know, to make something blow up and make it look realistic.
02:25But then when you see it in the game and you see it blow up, you're like, that's awesome!
02:30Along with the destructible cover system, we have a gore system, which is pretty brutal, actually.
02:39We have a really awesome gore system. You can tear out limbs and arms.
02:47Part of our push for authenticity is that we didn't want to pull any punches as far as the effects
02:52of these.
02:54When a bullet hits a target, when a grenade goes off next to a target, we want to show what
02:59these things do.
03:02We get into this, you know, what we call an action camera sequence.
03:04Once the camera goes in really close, I'm right on the guy, so as he's, like, flying through the air
03:08and getting blown up, like, you know, I see an arm, you know, get torn off and a piece of
03:12his leg is, like, flying at the camera in glorious slow motion.
03:23When you see real soldiers in real situations, a lot of time they're in a relaxed or, you know, more
03:28of a patrol stance.
03:29You can't always be perfectly ready. Guns are heavy. You can't always hold them up to your eyeball all the
03:34time.
03:34Soldiers are not always in combat. They're not always yelling. If he's in patrol, he's talking, and there's color dialogue
03:38to go along with that.
03:39I don't think you're going to kill him with words.
03:41Coming out of a cinematic, the player and his squad are in this patrol stance.
03:45Then you'll suddenly see them all hunker down, and they'll get really quiet.
03:50They start getting low. They start whispering.
03:52This spot doesn't look too safe.
03:53You notice Baker's voice changes. When he gives commands, he's whispering.
03:57Germans ahead. Don't think they saw us.
03:58This lets the player know that he's in stealth, and that the Germans can't quite see him, but he can't
04:04get too close.
04:11As soon as combat starts, we'll shift into a combat posture, and everybody will be screaming, and, you know, everybody's
04:16up, and the gun's out, and we're firing.
04:18Face the fire!
04:19I'm not empty!
04:21Fire!
04:23You get a great amount of feedback about your surroundings, and about the combat, and about the way the battle's
04:28about to unfold by just looking at your men.
04:30This isn't safe, Frankie.
04:32Don't lighten up, Corian. It's just a...
04:36There's also armor.
04:38There are artillery pieces, like, you know, the German side, the dreaded 88.
04:44You know, 37-millimeter cannons, and all kinds of artillery pieces, and then there's also tanks.
04:53You can button up. That means you're going to get inside of your hatch, and just use your main gun
04:57and your turret, and take guys out.
04:59Or you can even climb up and get on top of the tank, and you have a better view up
05:02there, and, you know, you can use the machine gun and just grind guys out.
05:06There's a lot of ways you can use a tank to cause havoc on the enemy.
05:09To me, the tanks are like, that's the dessert.
05:13What do you want me to put it in your tank?
05:21I want tookusem it.
05:21To me, the tank is right.
05:26I can't do it.
05:27I had loads of resources.
05:27I can't do it.
05:28I'm out of two.
05:28I can do it.
05:28I can't do it.
05:29You can't do it.
05:30I can do it.
05:30I can do it to me.
