00:05the giant signing six-time Pro Bowler all-Pro fullback Patrick Ricard should
00:10tell you guys one thing John Harbaugh is not running from the smoke in the run
00:14game and he wants to bring this franchise back to the smash-mouth football
00:19era now this dude hasn't been a core piece in one of the NFL's most dominant
00:24rushing attacks for years at 6-3-300 he was the core piece in a Baltimore run game that had
00:32identity you don't get the nickname Pancake Pat unless you're out there putting in work
00:37so are you ready to run the rock I'm breaking down some of Ricard's best blocks in the 2025 season
00:44to show you how the Giants run game could eat next season in this Blue Rush free agent profile
00:53Pancake Pat yo I promise you guys you are going to laugh when you watch this film breakdown and
01:00you're not going to laugh because of Patrick Ricard you're going to laugh at the amount of
01:04business decisions he makes a lot of grown men make on defense and when I say business decisions
01:11you're going to see these dudes want zero smoke when you see 6-3-300 pounds athletic 6-3-300
01:19pounds
01:20are running at you so right here let's watch the play let's break it down you see him a little
01:23cold hands in there gets cold up here in MetLife Stadium but doesn't matter it looks like juggernaut
01:28coming off the edge and you see him moving grown men on the second level so let's kind of break
01:34down
01:34I'm not going to break down the play so much it's all about what Ricard adds to the play and
01:41when you
01:41look at a fullback a true fullback like him and he's running these powers these isos he counters
01:49whatever it is you're going to see him be able to get to the second level and kick guys out
01:55with ease
01:55so let's watch it you've got Mark Andrews and the tackle working together Mark Andrews is going on
02:01a down block to seal this you've got the backside guard the left guard here pulling pulling for this
02:09Jack backer right or the Mike backer right here they're in a three they're in a three four here's
02:14the Sam here's the Mike you call this the Jack and here's the Will and now Ricard has to kick
02:21this
02:21Sam backer out so let's watch the steps boom look at how when he gets the point of contact
02:27no one wants to no one wants to hit this dude head on you can see this he is controlling
02:33this block
02:34he has his entire body on this Sam backer here now this is where this is what makes him special
02:45in a six-time pro bowler you see this foot right here let's let's kind of mark this area right
02:52here
02:52with your eyes and I want to see where he kicks him out and where how much he expands this
03:01gap or this
03:02running lane for Derek Henry to run through so we're here I'm gonna keep it here and watch how
03:07he finishes the block he started here and now he is past the hash mark we call that get out
03:15get out
03:16of the club no white tees in the club look at the run lane that he has opened up for
03:25Derek Henry
03:26you tell me scat can't run through that you tell me tyrone tracy jr can't run through that
03:32body on the body on the second level and like what's great about him is the point of impact
03:39gets hands on drives him out of the way opens up the hole and now it's on the back to
03:45do what he
03:45does just real quick I know we're focusing on Pat Ricard but watch the way Derek Henry makes this
03:49dude miss tyrone tracy jr cam scataboo you're gonna get some one-on-one opportunities with some
03:55safeties and some corners because Pat Ricard is going to open up some lanes for you
04:02all right we talk about versatility we talk about how he's able to do different things line
04:09him up in different places not only to see what the defensive front is going to be but to also
04:15for
04:16him to be a plus one blocker in the run game so you see them here to this bunch left
04:21formation
04:26now he goes back to an off set look
04:35now you bring them both over now you bring the tight end
04:39and the and the full back over in the Ricard now you flip the formation look what this does to
04:44the
04:45defense communicating makes him bump over now you get what you want in terms of the front
04:52the blocking and you get Patrick Ricard one-on-one with the safety with the little guy watch the
04:59business decision here let's watch the play then we'll break it down a little bit more
05:04my gosh man it's like watching juggernaut I got a I got a three-year-old kid I just started
05:09showing
05:10him some x-man clips it's like watching juggernaut run through there all right this just shows how
05:16patient and how explosive he is at 300 him and him and Derek Henry got something special so you see
05:23him navigating this lane navigating this hole again you've got the seal block here you've got this hole
05:29and now what this safety has to do again is make a business decision on how he's going to play
05:36or attack
05:36and fill a hole when you've got a 6'3 300 pounder that I bet could probably do a backflip
05:43he's that
05:44athletic or at least you know what's it a backhand stand all right I'll shut up let's watch the play
05:50navigates through the hole Derek Henry has his hands on him telling him hey I'm right behind you
05:56now explode watch him explode through the third level and run through the contact here
06:03hands on get your hands inside so you don't get called for a penalty you're a New York giant now
06:08they
06:08call dumb stuff like that all all the time again do you see the rushing lane that was created and
06:14now
06:14you have Derek Henry one-on-one with the safety here great finish I continue to talk about how he
06:24he's
06:24the kickout block the things that they did with him in terms of how he creates displacement and he
06:30widens rush lanes at the point of attack they're trying to show some little tush push formation here
06:36you've got Mark Andrews the tight end as the quarterback and you got Lamar Jackson in the
06:41backfield here watch how Ricard again opens the lane and forces another little guy another DB to
06:50make a business decision here oh my gosh look at that dude half of his blocks that it's not even
07:01like
07:01a smash you in the mouth type blow you up look at this oh my gosh this dude just got
07:07blown up type
07:08blocks it's a very athletic block to where he gets on latches on and then he just he moves these
07:16guys
07:16out of the way and they move themselves out of the way as well so let's watch it watch the
07:22footwork
07:23it's almost like he's a pulling guard here and at 300 pounds shoot you might as well call him a
07:27pulling
07:28guard see Mark Andrews get ready to uh you know run the counter get out here but watch again you
07:36see
07:36this corner I mean this this safety corner whatever he is you've got to box this when we say box
07:43that
07:43means you can't let it outside you have to force this play inside so that means you're going he's
07:50supposed to attack Ricard's right shoulder here this upfield shoulder and force it and be be sturdy
07:57be firm so they so he doesn't widen this gap out here and he forces this ball inside to his
08:05help
08:05he does not do that at all he can't you've got an athletic 300 pounder coming at you now again
08:12look
08:13at the point of contact where they're at at the point of contact and where he's at when he finishes
08:18this block we're right here on the inside of the hash right look at the finish we went from inside
08:25of the hash all the way to northwest cleveland outside forget out get out the club it's get
08:32outside of the city limits here look how wide this hole is this is a tight end fellas ladies gentlemen
08:39this is a tight end gets his hands up celebrate with your boy they don't call him pancake pat for
08:47nothing i'm gonna call him juggernaut first time i see him i'm gonna call him i'm gonna call him
08:50juggernaut last but not least again here he is in this traditional i formation here you've got close
09:01splits by both the z and the x here let's watch it and then we'll break it down again
09:13true so you're probably looking at me like well that wasn't that big of a hit brandon like what
09:18you have to understand in the nfl not every every block or every tackle is going to be some sort
09:25of
09:25smash mouth blow it up make sports center type tackle this would could make sports center when
09:31they're maybe not as a highlight but when they're breaking down you know what the course of a game
09:37and this could be a run that you know this is a 10 not only a first down but a
09:4310 plus yard run
09:44and it all started because patrick ricard pat ricard kicked this man out and again opened the
09:52wide opened and widened a rush lane for his running back so they actually switched the play here i want
10:01to just break this down for you again this is scheme what you can do with them you see watch
10:06watch watch lamar's hand right here he's telling him he's telling him we're going we're going with
10:12opposite opposite opposite you get the opposite call everybody knows everyone's alert this this
10:17uh receiver this z receiver here if they ran this tall sweep to this side you're supposed to he's
10:23going to crack down down and there'd be a puller but now because they go opposite now this receiver
10:30knows he's the down blocker you get another down block here and now ricard becomes the puller and
10:37he's the he's a cleanup guy whatever color he sees he cleans up look this brooks brooks already knows it
10:45brooks knows what size it's going to look he knows but who cares if they know if you can't stop
10:51it
10:52he flows to the play now i'm gonna run this full speed again so you can see how athletic this
11:00dude
11:00is in space look at him i feel like in his head he's like bobby boucher making bobby boucher noises
11:11and then gets that contact so again it wasn't that big of a block but look how much of a
11:17rush lane
11:18great job by the first and foremost great job bateman great job by the receiver great job by
11:23this tackle to seal that remember brooks knew the play you flow to the player right away great job
11:29sealing this edge off again this corner right here jones is supposed to play this step up and play that
11:38outside shoulder to box this back into his help there's really no help because they do a great job
11:44sealing but you cannot let this you cannot let this hole this gap widen so much that now derrick
11:52hemry can run away from the pursuit and put his foot into the ground and get north south but if
11:58you
11:58see 6-3 300 coming at you you're going to make a business decision so instead of attacking right now
12:07and you could seal it you have a chance to seal this right here at the bottom of the numbers
12:12and maybe
12:14this late leakage or spillage from this i believe i believe it's a d tackle maybe he can come in
12:20phase
12:21with the play but again because he's able to widen that rush lane now that gives derrick henry
12:29a couple of extra steps to get away from the pursuit
12:35look at that you went from the bottom of the numbers to you're splitting the difference between the numbers
12:42and the sideline before he even puts a hand on this guy this corner takes himself
12:48out of phase and out of the play and this is what this guy brings to the run game
12:54intimidation violence displacement whichever other scrabble words i can think of but this dude is
13:03going to do wonders for the giants rush game
13:09get out the club this dude is moving grown men and the signing tells you or should tell you to
13:17expect the giants getting away from brian dable's huge usage of 11 personnel that's one back one
13:23tight end three wide receivers i think they're going to shift more to now the 21 22 23 personnel
13:30more two back looks and i read an interesting stat from the x profile fantasies myth it says derrick
13:37henry's yards per attempt with patrick ricard seven yards per carry without 5.4 yards per carry
13:46the giants finished last season with the top five rushing offense 2,195 yards on the ground on 511
13:54carries but there's some hidden numbers in there there's a hidden stat that no one's talking about
14:001,587 of those rushing yards and 115 of those carries were not by running backs you can do what
14:08you want
14:09with that stat but the project pat or the pancake pat signing tells me that john harbaugh
14:14wants his running backs to carry the load and he wants to set the tone and bring this franchise
14:21back to an era when his run game had identity
