00:00Hello, happy Monday, hope you enjoyed your weekend.
00:03We are back here at the Bureau with the National Weather Forecast.
00:06We're going to focus in on Tuesday's weather across the country
00:09and the talking point recently has really been tropical cyclone Norel up in the far north
00:13and that's still dancing around up over the northwest of the country on Tuesday,
00:18bringing some heavy rain, damaging wind around northern WA
00:21and during Tuesday moving out into the Indian Ocean where it's expected to start re-intensifying.
00:27So that remains a system to watch for the week ahead.
00:29But that northwestern corner is really the only part of Australia looking at severe weather tomorrow.
00:34Mostly settled conditions in many other regions.
00:37There will be a few showers here and there around the coastline but nothing too serious.
00:42And a few showers including parts of southeast Queensland from about Bundaberg down to Koolangatta
00:47including Brisbane.
00:48Just some passing showers there, nothing heavy or persistent.
00:52Could see a few millimetres throughout the course of the day.
00:55It's bright and sunny north of Bundaberg up through Rocky, the central coast
00:59out towards Townsville as well with southerly breezes on that coastline.
01:03And a few showers expected further north for Cairns, the north tropical coast and the Cape York
01:08Peninsula but nothing compared to what you had at the end of last week.
01:12Bright sunny skies expected right through interior Queensland.
01:16A few showers also on the menu for eastern New South Wales.
01:19Primarily north of Newcastle where we could see 5 to 15 millimetres of rain
01:23and you could get several showers throughout your day.
01:26South of Newcastle including Sydney and Wollongong there is a risk of showers
01:29but it's really just one or two much lighter, much quicker showers just bringing in low rainfall totals.
01:35Temperatures for the east coast in the mid-20s are quite warm for the season
01:40and we're into the 30s for western parts with sunny skies there
01:43and Canberra seeing 26 degrees and sunshine.
01:47Quite a humid day as expected across Victoria for Tuesday.
01:51Pretty warm and muggy particularly given the time of year.
01:55Temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s for autumn
01:58and the humidity could deliver.
02:00A few showers as well particularly when we push into the afternoon.
02:03One of those days where the risk of wet weather is pretty extensive.
02:07It covers almost all of southern Victoria and about the mountain ranges
02:11but not everyone will see something.
02:14Melbourne's certainly a pretty good chance to get some rain
02:17particularly towards the second half of the day.
02:19Living further north especially if you're along the Murray
02:21chance of any wet weather looks very slim just bright sunny skies.
02:27Now there will be rain across much of Tasmania for Tuesday that's for sure.
02:30In the morning rain really just around the south here Hobart, Huonville
02:33other southern areas but once we get to the afternoon
02:35patchy falls could extend statewide.
02:38When it comes to rainfall totals those in the south will probably see the most
02:42and could easily see 10 to 20 millimetres if not a little more than that.
02:46But across the north those rainfall totals expected to be quite a lot lower
02:50just in the single digits.
02:53South Australia really dodging most of the shower activity
02:56which is hitting other southern parts.
02:57It will be a bright sunny dry day for most of the state
03:01with temperatures a few degrees above seasonal averages.
03:04The exception to that is a couple of showers down around the lower southeast
03:07including for Mount Gambier but they're still quite warm with a high of 27.
03:12Adelaide tracking for a sunny 31.
03:15For western Australia we'll talk about the tropical cyclone in a second
03:18but for the southern two-thirds of the state
03:20it is expected to be a pretty settled Tuesday.
03:23Perth sunny and 30 degrees.
03:25A little bit windy across that west coast
03:27but bright sunny skies as well.
03:29It is going to be cooler, cloudier
03:31and a few showers also expected down across the far south of the state
03:35particularly around Esperance
03:36maybe out towards Albany as well.
03:38Pilbara looking bright and warm
03:4040 degrees around Newman and Karratha.
03:43I thought I would put on the tropical cyclone track map
03:46as it moves through the Kimberley on Monday
03:48but then on Tuesday gets back out into the Indian Ocean
03:50and expected to almost immediately start re-intensifying
03:53back to a Category 2 system by at least Wednesday
03:56possibly a Category 3 severe tropical cyclone again later in the week.
03:59So this does remain a weather system to watch all week
04:03if you live in the Kimberley, if you live in the Pilbara
04:05even if you live in the Gascoigne
04:07this will be close enough that it could bring some weather impacts
04:10your way through Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and into the weekend.
04:14For the time being though it will be the Kimberley
04:16picking up the worst of the weather on Tuesday
04:17chances of heavy rain and damaging wind around Karnanara
04:21maybe moving into Broome towards the back half of the day
04:24probably not getting as far south as Port Hedland though.
04:27And while Narelle's impacts have eased across the Top End
04:30it is still the wet season so we've got that usual mix of showers
04:33and thunderstorms across all northern areas
04:35and really that could be anyone north of Tennant Creek
04:38meanwhile it is back to sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-30s
04:42across the red centre of the country.
04:45Thanks for sticking with me all the way through to the end
04:47you can get more weather information through these channels here
04:50and I'll be back with another update for you tomorrow.
