Transcript
00:14In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
00:18peace be with you.
00:19We acknowledge our sins, but more importantly,
00:22the compassion, the mercy and the love of God.
00:26Loving God, you forgive our sins.
00:28Lord, have mercy.
00:29You call us away from fear into love.
00:32Christ, have mercy.
00:33You are always with us.
00:35Lord, have mercy.
00:36May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
00:40and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
00:43Let us pray.
00:45O God, by whose wondrous grace we are enriched with every blessing,
00:50grant us so to pass from former ways to newness of life,
00:53that we may be made ready for the glory of the heavenly kingdom.
00:57Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
01:02God, forever and ever.
01:05Amen.
01:07A reading from the prophet Daniel.
01:10Susanna was condemned to death by the whole assembly.
01:14She cried out as loud as she could,
01:16Eternal God, who knows all secrets and everything before it happens.
01:21You know that they have given false evidence against me, and now have I to die,
01:28innocent as I am, of everything that malice has invented against me.
01:33The Lord heard her cry, and as she was being led away to die,
01:39he roused the Holy Spirit, residing in a young man named Daniel,
01:43who began to shout,
01:45I am innocent of this woman's death,
01:47at which all the people turned to him and asked,
01:51What do you mean by these words?
01:53Standing in the middle of the crowd, he replied,
01:56Are you so stupid, sons of Israel,
01:58as to condemn a daughter of Israel unheard,
02:01and without troubling to find out the truth?
02:04Go back to the scene of the trial.
02:06These men have given false evidence against her.
02:10All the people hurried back,
02:11and the elders said to Daniel,
02:13Come and sit with us,
02:15and tell us what you mean,
02:16since God has given you the gifts that elders have.
02:23Daniel said,
02:25Keep the men well apart from each other,
02:27for I want to question them.
02:29When the men had been separated,
02:31Daniel had one of them brought to him.
02:35You have grown
02:40old in wickedness, he said,
02:42and now the sins of your earlier days have overtaken you.
02:46You, with your unjust judgments,
02:48your condemnation of the innocent,
02:50your acquittal of guilty men,
02:52when the Lord has said,
02:54You must not put the innocent and the just to death.
02:57Now then, since you saw her so clearly,
03:00tell me, what tree you saw them lying under?
03:04He replied,
03:05Under a mastic tree.
03:07Daniel said,
03:08True enough,
03:09your lie recalls of your own head.
03:12The angel of God has already received your sentence from him,
03:15and will lash you in half.
03:17He dismissed the men,
03:19ordered the other to be brought,
03:21and said to him,
03:22Spawn of Canaan,
03:23not of Judah.
03:25Beauty has seduced you,
03:27lust has led your heart astray.
03:29This is how you have been behaving
03:30with the daughters of Israel,
03:33and they were too frightened to resist.
03:35But there is a daughter of Judah
03:37who could not stomach your wickedness.
03:39Now then,
03:40tell me,
03:41what tree you surprised them under?
03:43He replied,
03:45Under a whole mok.
03:47Daniel said,
03:48True enough,
03:48your lie recalls of your own head.
03:51The angel of God is waiting with a sword
03:53to drive home
03:54and spit you
03:55and destroy the pair of you.
03:57Then the whole assembly shouted,
03:59Blessing God,
04:00the Savior of those who trust in him.
04:02And they turned on the two elders,
04:04whom Daniel had convicted of false evidence,
04:06out of their own mouths.
04:08As prescribed in the law of Moses,
04:10they sentenced them to the same punishment
04:13as they had intended to inflict on their neighbor.
04:16They were put to death.
04:18The life of an innocent woman
04:20was burnt that day.
04:22The word of God,
04:24the word of the Lord.
04:28Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
04:30I fear no evil,
04:31for you are with me.
04:32Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
04:34I fear no evil,
04:35for you are with me.
04:37The Lord is my shepherd,
04:39there is nothing I shall want.
04:40Fresh and green are the pastures,
04:42for he gives me repose.
04:44Near restful waters,
04:45he leads me
04:46to revive my drooping spirit.
04:48Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
04:50I fear no evil,
04:51for you are with me.
04:53He guides me along the right path,
04:55he is true to his name.
04:56If I should walk in the valley of darkness,
04:59no evil would I fear.
05:01You are there with your crook and your staff,
05:03with these you give me comfort.
05:06Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
05:08I fear no evil,
05:09for you are with me.
05:10You have prepared a banquet for me,
05:13in the sight of my foes.
05:14My head you have anointed with oil,
05:16my cup is overflowing.
05:19Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
05:21I fear no evil,
05:22for you are with me.
05:24You have prepared a banquet for me,
05:26in the sight of my foes.
05:28My head you have anointed with oil,
05:30my cup is overflowing.
05:32Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
05:34I fear no evil,
05:35for you are with me.
05:37Surely goodness and kindness
05:39shall follow me all the days of my life.
05:41In the Lord's own house
05:42shall I dwell forever and ever.
05:45Though I walk in the valley of darkness,
05:47I fear no evil,
05:48for you are with me.
05:50Glory to you,
05:51word of God,
05:52Lord Jesus Christ.
05:54I do not wish the sinner to die,
05:56says the Lord,
05:56but to turn to me and live.
05:59Glory to you,
06:00word of God,
06:00Lord Jesus Christ.
06:04The Lord be with you.
06:05A reading from the Holy Gospel
06:07according to John.
06:09Glory to you,
06:11O Lord.
06:12Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
06:14At daybreak,
06:16he appeared in the temple again.
06:18And as the people came to him,
06:20he sat down and began to teach them.
06:23The scribes and Pharisees
06:24brought a woman along
06:25who had been caught committing adultery.
06:28And making her stand there
06:30in full view of everybody,
06:32they said to Jesus,
06:33Master,
06:34this woman was caught
06:35in the very act of committing adultery.
06:38And Moses has ordered us
06:39in the law
06:40to condemn women like this
06:42to death by stoning.
06:43What have you to say?
06:45They asked him this as a test,
06:48looking for something
06:49to use against him.
06:50But Jesus bent down
06:51and started writing on the ground
06:53with his finger.
06:54As they persisted with their question,
06:56he looked up and said,
06:58If there is one of you
06:59who has not sinned,
07:01let him be the first
07:02to throw a stone at her.
07:04Then he bent down
07:05and wrote on the ground again.
07:07When they heard this,
07:09they went away one by one,
07:11beginning with the elders,
07:13until Jesus was left alone
07:15with the woman
07:15who remained standing there.
07:18He looked up and said,
07:20Woman, where are they?
07:22Has no one condemned you?
07:25No one, sir,
07:26she replied.
07:27Neither do I condemn you,
07:29said Jesus.
07:30Go away
07:31and don't sin anymore.
07:34The Gospel of the Lord.
07:36Praise to you,
07:37Lord Jesus Christ.
07:44Go and sin no more.
07:47That is the message of Lent.
07:49Go and sin no more.
07:51Turn away from sin
07:52and follow the Gospel.
07:54A reminder
07:55to continue
07:57making the decisions
07:58we need to make
07:59to let go
08:00of what we need
08:01to let go of.
08:03To let God
08:05purify our hearts
08:06with love.
08:07Love is what
08:09we are called into.
08:10The generosity
08:11of God's love
08:13invites us
08:14to be generous as well.
08:17Amen.
08:32Blessed are you,
08:33Lord God of all creation,
08:34for through your goodness
08:35we have this bread to offer,
08:37which earth has given
08:38human hands
08:38and made
08:39to become for us
08:40the bread of life.
08:41Blessed be God forever.
09:00blessed are you,
09:01Lord God of all creation,
09:02for through your goodness
09:03we have this wine
09:03to offer,
09:04food of divine work
09:05of human hands.
09:06It will become
09:06a spiritual drink.
09:08Blessed be God forever.
09:19Let us pray,
09:20brothers and sisters,
09:21that my sacrifice
09:22and yours
09:23may be acceptable
09:24to God,
09:25our almighty Father.
09:26May the Lord
09:27accept this sacrifice
09:28at our hands
09:29to the praise
09:30and glory of God's name
09:31for our good
09:32and the good
09:32of God's holy church.
09:38Grant, we pray,
09:39O Lord,
09:40that preparing to celebrate
09:41the holy mysteries
09:42we may bring before you
09:45the fruit of bodily penance
09:47and joyful purity of heart.
09:51Through Christ our Lord.
09:52Amen.
09:54The Lord be with you.
09:56Lift up your hearts.
09:58Let us give thanks
09:59to the Lord our God.
10:01It is truly right and just,
10:03our duty and our salvation,
10:05always and everywhere,
10:06to give you thanks,
10:07Lord,
10:07Holy Father,
10:08almighty and eternal God.
10:10For you will
10:11that our self-denial
10:12should give you thanks,
10:14humble our sinful pride,
10:16contribute to the feeding
10:17of the poor
10:18and to help us imitate you
10:19in your kindness.
10:21And so glorify you
10:22with all countless angels,
10:24as with one voice of praise
10:26we acclaim,
10:27Holy,
10:28Holy,
10:28Holy Lord,
10:29God of hosts,
10:30heaven and earth
10:31are full of your glory.
10:33Hosanna in the highest.
10:34Blessed is he who comes
10:36in the name of the Lord.
10:38Hosanna in the highest.
10:43You are indeed holy,
10:45O Lord,
10:46the fount of all holiness.
10:48Make holy, therefore,
10:49these gifts, we pray,
10:51by sending down your spirit
10:52upon them like the dewfall,
10:54so that they may become for us
10:56the body and blood
10:57of our Lord Jesus Christ.
10:58At the time he was betrayed
11:00and entered willingly
11:02into his passion,
11:04he took bread
11:05and giving thanks,
11:06broke it
11:07and gave it to his disciples,
11:09saying,
11:10Take this, all of you,
11:11and eat of it,
11:12for this is my body
11:14which will be given up
11:15for you.
11:22In a similar way,
11:24when supper was ended,
11:25he took the chalice
11:26and once more giving thanks,
11:29he gave it to his disciples,
11:31saying,
11:31Take this, all of you,
11:32and drink from it,
11:33for this is the chalice
11:35of my blood,
11:36the blood of the new
11:37and eternal covenant,
11:39which will be pulled out
11:41for you and for many
11:42for the forgiveness of sins.
11:44Do this in memory of me.
11:55The mystery of faith,
11:57we proclaim your death,
11:58O Lord,
11:59and profess your resurrection
12:00until you come again.
12:05Therefore, as we celebrate
12:07the memorial of his death
12:08and resurrection,
12:09we offer you, Lord,
12:11the bread of life
12:11and the chalice of salvation,
12:13giving thanks
12:14that you've held us worthy
12:16to be in your presence
12:17and minister to you.
12:19Humbly we pray
12:20that partaking of the body
12:22and blood of Christ,
12:23we may be gathered into one
12:25by the Holy Spirit.
12:27Remember, Lord,
12:28your church spread
12:29throughout the world
12:30and bring her
12:31to the fullness of charity
12:32together with Leo,
12:34our Pope,
12:35me, your unworthy servant
12:36and all the clergy.
12:38Remember also
12:39our brothers and sisters
12:40who have fallen asleep
12:42in the hope of the resurrection
12:43and all who have died
12:45in your mercy.
12:46Welcome them
12:47into the light of your face.
12:49Have mercy on us all,
12:50we pray,
12:51that with the blessed
12:52Virgin Mary,
12:53Mother of God,
12:54blessed Joseph,
12:55her spouse,
12:56with the blessed apostles
12:57and all the saints
12:59who have preached you
12:59throughout the ages,
13:00we may merit to be
13:02coerced to eternal life
13:04and may praise and glorify you
13:06through your Son,
13:07Jesus Christ.
13:11Through him and with him
13:12and in him,
13:13O God,
13:14Almighty Father,
13:15in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
13:17all glory and honor
13:18is yours forever and ever.
13:20Amen.
13:23In the Savior's command
13:24and formed by divine teaching,
13:26we dare to say,
13:28Our Father,
13:28who art in heaven,
13:30hallowed be thy name,
13:31thy kingdom come,
13:32thy will be done on earth
13:34as it is in heaven.
13:35Give us this day
13:37our daily bread
13:38and forgive us
13:39our trespasses
13:39as we forgive those
13:41who trespass against us.
13:43And lead us not
13:44into temptation,
13:45but deliver us
13:46from evil.
13:47Deliver us,
13:48Lord, we pray,
13:49from every evil.
13:50Graciously grant peace
13:51in our days
13:52that by the help
13:53of your mercy
13:54we may be always
13:55free from sin
13:56and safe from all distress
13:58as we await
13:59the blessed hope
14:00and the coming
14:01of our Savior,
14:02Jesus Christ.
14:03For the kingdom,
14:04the power,
14:05and the glory
14:06are yours
14:06now and forever.
14:08Lord Jesus Christ,
14:09who said to your apostles,
14:11Peace I leave you,
14:12my peace I give you,

14:15but on the faith
14:16of your church
14:16and graciously grant
14:18her peace

15:05the sins of the world.
15:06Happy are those
15:07who are called
15:08to the supper
15:08of the Lamb.
15:10Lord, I am not worthy,
15:11you should enter
15:11under my roof,
15:13but only say the word,
15:14and my soul
15:15shall be healed.
15:18My Jesus,
15:20I believe
15:20that you are present

15:35as if you were already there
15:36and unite myself
15:38wholly to you.
