00:14Hi Joey
00:15I'm Joey, this is Al
00:17and we are going to be playing the Battle of the Nile
00:20Today you're playing as Rome
00:22but your previous experience is as Egypt
00:24Yeah so we showed
00:27the Battle of the Nile off at E3
00:29you may have seen some of that online
00:31we showed the battle from the Egyptian perspective
00:34so defending from the Roman attack
00:35now that was a lot simpler
00:40challenge for the battle
00:41because that's kind of designed for newcomers
00:43whereas the Rome version
00:45where you're slogging up the hill
00:46and you've got to take the Egyptian position
00:47it's much much tougher
00:48So tactical disadvantage
00:50like positioning
00:51and numbers
00:53Yes, sheer numbers
00:55I'm kind of outgunned, outnumbered
00:58and my navy especially
00:59is particularly prone to their navy
01:02so we're quite outnumbered in the water as well
01:04so I'll get the battle started
01:05You know you have to win this game
01:07and do you know why?
01:08Why?
01:08Last week at Rezzed was my first ever demo
01:11and I won
01:12but a costly victory
01:13but I still won
01:14so the challenge is on
01:15if you can beat my costly victory
01:18Alright, I'll do my best
01:19No promises though
01:20No promises
01:21Okay
01:21So this is the intro
01:23and we've got the hill
01:25where the Egyptian troops are
01:27and the platform
01:28where some of the ballistas are
01:30Yep, so we've got ballistas up here
01:31War elephants
01:32Ouch
01:35What Egypt will probably do
01:36is do its best
01:37to hold most of its forces
01:39and defend the hill
01:40And this is your fleet?
01:42Yes, this is my fleet here
01:44See most of the front line of ships
01:45the quadrums are quite small
01:47Now what I'm going to do
01:48is use those
01:50not in combat at all
01:51I'm just going to
01:52because they're effectively troop ships
01:54I mean I could go board
01:55the enemy fleet
01:56but I'm just going to deny that
01:58I'm going to send my troops
01:59directly onto the land
02:00to support my land forces
02:01because we're kind of outnumbered here
02:03So straight as reinforcements
02:05Yep, exactly
02:06See with this you can't
02:08it's set up already
02:09so the game has started
02:10and there's no option
02:11for you to kind of
02:12move your units around
02:15to deploy them
02:15as there normally would be
02:17Why is that?
02:17No, that's right
02:18So normally
02:19in any campaign map generated battle
02:22you would have that option
02:24but in the Battle of Nile
02:25it's one of the historical battles
02:27Right
02:29So in this
02:29it's a set challenge effectively
02:31you know
02:33so you've just got to make the best
02:34of your kind of initial position
02:36so
02:37so what I'm doing here
02:38as you see
02:38I've sent my
02:40my troop troops off to land
02:42to land the troops
02:43and then my two ballista
02:45good grooms here
02:46I'm going to send these guys up to
02:49into the jaws of doom effectively
02:51they're going to be my sacrificial lambs
02:53but they're going to soak up
02:55a lot of attention of the fleet there
02:58so I can get my troops off unhindered
03:00so
03:00That's not very nice
03:01They're all paring off quite nicely
03:02No I know
03:03but you know
03:04to move mountains
03:05you must make sacrifices
03:07so
03:07I'm afraid it's those guys
03:08Says every good general
03:10Exactly
03:10I'm a cold rodded leader
03:13and let's see if I'm actually any good at it
03:15Right
03:15so what I'm doing is setting up unit groups
03:18for my
03:19infantry and cavalry
03:20and mounted troops here
03:21so
03:23what I want to do actually
03:24is send my skirmishes forward
03:25to just do a bit of scouting
03:27I'm going to send my other unit of
03:29javelin skirmishes over here
03:31to meet up with my disembarked legionaries
03:36because I want these guys
03:38to head on up the hill over here
03:40because there's a unit of ballista here
03:42which is currently trained on my ships
03:43but they'll soon turn to my army
03:45because as you can see
03:47those ships aren't going to last long
03:48No
03:49Not against those forces
03:50So
03:51sorry boys
03:52So you're sneaking up the side
03:54through the trees
03:55That's right yeah
03:55Oh look we've got a skirmish already
03:57so we've got
03:58on my javelin then
03:59and it looks like some camel archers there
04:02playing around in the trees
04:04they're trying to draw me out
04:05so
04:05I'm going to send my javelins over there
04:08so they shouldn't withdraw
04:09because my troops aren't close enough
04:11but in the meantime
04:12let's get my
04:14evocati
04:14and my
04:15mounted forces on the move
04:19So
04:19how are we doing over here
04:20right
04:20everybody's kind of meeting up nicely
04:22Excellent
04:24Let's get these
04:25motoring
04:26into some kind of
04:27reasonable formation
04:29So
04:29so what's your tactical plan
04:31considering you are
04:32at a massive loss
04:33in many ways
04:34Yeah
04:34so quite a disadvantage
04:35as you can see from here
04:36you know
04:37there's just
04:37there's a lot more Egyptian stuff
04:39and they've got a hill
04:40which is really hard to climb up
04:41and slows me down
04:42and easy to shoot from
04:43and easy to shoot from indeed
04:45so
04:45looks like my javelin
04:47will chase the flies off
04:48so yeah my plan is effectively
04:49to use my evocati
04:50which are really
04:51really tough ombres
04:52and I'm just lining up here
04:53on the hill
04:55and
04:55I'm going to kind of use those
04:57as
04:57as
04:58as
04:58as
05:01use those
05:02as
05:02as my main force
05:03which will attract some fire
05:05of course
05:05but
05:06I think
05:07you know
05:07it's important
05:09I mean they're tough
05:09they'll stick around
05:10they've got really high morale
05:12and this will give my flanking force up here
05:14which I send up left up this way
05:16a chance to
05:17go and get involved
05:18and have a bit of fun
05:21but
05:21at the moment
05:22it looks like there's something coming up the tree
05:23so I'm just going to meet it
05:248th
05:25and it's
05:26oh it's elephant time
05:27so
05:28what I'm going to do
05:29what is the best way to deal with this?
05:32so
05:32send everyone in
05:33get your
05:35legionaries throwing their pelims in to begin with
05:37and then
05:37my javelin will
05:38will sit at the back here
05:39constantly popping right at the elephants
05:41and a bit of luck
05:42we'll take them out
05:42but
05:43yes
05:44look
05:44it looks like we're turning already
05:46oh
05:47ouch
05:48okay
05:48so we can show that from the sea now as well
05:51this is
05:52this is
05:52not a good day right now
05:54so they have taken your navel fleeing
05:56seriously
05:57yes
05:58okay
05:59it looks like we scared the elephants off
06:00that's really
06:01that's really nice
06:01let's get
06:03my girls motoring
06:04chase them down
06:06let's do that
06:06get those moving there
06:09come up
06:11right
06:12ooh
06:12okay
06:15so
06:15we head the party on the move
06:18so you have a lot of unpredictable units in this battle
06:21we've got
06:22I mean
06:22the elephants who can not only destroy you
06:26but themselves
06:27yeah
06:28so yeah
06:29they tend to
06:30they've got this kind of
06:31well we call it an internal rage meter effectively
06:34but it's a
06:35it's a kind of attribute that we don't
06:37you know directly show to the player
06:38but it's
06:40as
06:41as elephants fight
06:42and they get struck particularly by javelins and arrows
06:46by ranged units
06:47they get angrier and angrier and then they snap
06:49and they run amok
06:50and then their owner cannot control them anymore
06:52so they tend to
06:53they tend to run wild and just trample over all sorts of stuff
06:56until
06:57until they're put out of their misery effectively
06:59so
07:01right
07:01okay we've got a clear line to the guns now
07:03which is great news
07:04so
07:05all these guys
07:06wish they'd never been born
07:07I like how close you got
07:08yeah
07:09I don't practically see them crying
07:10yeah
07:11the detail up close
07:13I mean it's just
07:13tremendous
07:14you know under fire
07:15look these guys are raising their shields
07:17they're approaching
07:17in a kind of realistic fashion
07:20javelin men obviously much much lighter
07:22you know
07:23so they run faster
07:24and a gentle jog up that hill
07:26exactly
07:27and they're just going to let loose with their diamonds
07:29so
07:31right
07:31we're making a good advance here
07:34oh
07:34someone's letting some burning balls off
07:36oh
07:36oh
07:37oh
07:37oh
07:38that one stopped
07:41oh
07:43oh
07:43he just got a few
07:44hit that little divot just there
07:47that was really lucky considering the damage
07:50yeah
07:50absolutely
07:51that could have been really bad
07:54right
07:55unfortunately
07:56I'm just going to have to take this one in the face
07:57so
07:57ah
07:58no
07:58oh
08:01oh
08:02that is
08:03too late
08:03too late for those horses
08:05I thought it was a bit out of my plan.
08:07It did.
08:08Which is absolutely crucial to my plan here.
08:11Those elephants have a job to do.
08:13Right, I'm going to start countering with these.
08:19It looks like the crews from the...
08:22These are the guys that set the burning doors off, so...
08:26See how they like these.
08:28They're not very good.
08:29I mean, they're reasonable swordsmen, they're average swordsmen.
08:59Sì.
09:00He's got a little rank up there
09:01and we're all handling this mess in the middle
09:06so let's let those guys break
09:08and let's try and reform him a bit
09:12Ok, we now have...
09:15African elephants charging around the place
09:17having a whale of time
09:19javons need to be on those
09:21Oh! The elephants are turning around
09:24They're coming back, they're coming back
09:25Oh no!
09:27Fire, fire
09:29Ancora un'increase in rank?
09:33I really like that,
09:34that now you can individually increase your rank within the game.
09:39Yeah.
09:41What have we got over here?
09:42What have we got over here?
09:43No, no.
09:47Creeping up the side!
09:48Now this has worked out beautifully, look.
09:50So my guys here now have a clear shot of the ballistas.
09:53And then I'm going to hold them here
09:54while the rest of my army hopefully can start taking out
09:58Draws them out?
10:00Soak up the main forces of the Egyptian army.
10:03So you can sneak into the capture point?
10:05Exactly, I'll sneak into the capture point.
10:07How are my elephants doing?
10:08Have I still got some left?
10:13I know this is not good tactical...
10:16Ah, away, okay.
10:19Excellent.
10:21Heavy fire being taken.
10:23Yeah, look at all those fire arrows going on.
10:25That's not good.
10:27Okay, a little unit there.
10:28Looks like they're scared of some of my guys.
10:30I mean, as far as combat speed looks,
10:32it's fairly normal,
10:34but I think within this game particularly
10:36there's a lot of fast moving units.
10:38Exactly, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
10:40So, you know, elephants, chariots...
10:44Camels.
10:44Camels, yeah. Camels, horses.
10:46What are those guys here? Archers.
10:48Oh, archers. Elephants.
10:51Yes.
10:52Right, I think we've got some luxury of time here,
10:55so...
10:55A bit more.
10:58I mean, elephants are very strong,
11:00but they seem to be a very slow moving unit as well,
11:02so they're kind of your heavy hitters.
11:05Exactly.
11:06And as you can see, I mean, they're not killing all these guys,
11:08they're disrupting them quite a lot, so...
11:10Now, here's the fun bit.
11:12Now I've managed to get my elephants in,
11:14I can just disrupt their army.
11:16and their pikemen simply aren't prepared,
11:18they're not facing.
11:19Right, he's trying to run his guns away.
11:21Ha ha ha.
11:22Nice try.
11:24So, right, he's trying not to engage with that side
11:27because he knows I've got some units here, so...
11:30However, I think we're ready.
11:32You are doing excellently.
11:35and I'm ready to just engage.
11:42Like, how am I guys doing over here?
11:44What's going on over here?
11:45My cav, against what a very disorderly is,
11:48would be the only person in the country.
11:50Cav should do okay, but, yeah,
11:52I'd say we should go with some of that.
11:55I'm a bit scared.
11:56So, this is a pretty challenging game,
11:59considering the numbers and the positioning,
12:01but there was someone who successfully,
12:05at rezzed at the weekend,
12:07played Rome,
12:08annihilated the Egyptian forces,
12:11and then destroyed the reinforcements.
12:14Yeah.
12:15Which, I mean,
12:16there are quite a few reinforcements as well.
12:19Exactly, yeah.
12:20Can we see them at the side?
12:21There's a whole other army,
12:22there's a whole other army reinforcing.
12:23Oooh.
12:24So, it looks like,
12:24it looks like they've had it.
12:26They've had it.
12:29Yeah, I've got them.
12:30That capture point is turning,
12:32turning from red,
12:33and it will go from red,
12:34white,
12:35and then yellow,
12:36if you successfully maintain that point.
12:38Exactly.
12:39So, you see this flag's dropping here,
12:40and then that'll switch to Roman's flag in a second.
12:43Um,
12:44and then we've just got to raise the flag up,
12:47and then it becomes ours.
12:48There we are.
12:48You know what?
12:49I think you're going to beat my costly victory.
12:51I think I might do.
12:52I think I'm doing pretty well here.
12:54I've got most of my units there.
12:55I've lost, by the looks of it,
12:56a unit of javelin,
12:58and two units of cavalry.
12:59So, actually,
13:02I'm looking pretty good.
13:03And my elephants still haven't run amok.
13:04Yes!
13:05I have control of my elephants still,
13:06which is kind of astounding,
13:07at this part,
13:08and ended up, to be honest.
13:09But could you beat Hirotaka Tachiki?
13:12Who, who...
13:13Oh, he was the guy who raised it.
13:14Yeah, he was.
13:15He was the guy who reinforced it.
13:16You know what?
13:16I don't think so.
13:17Oh!
13:18Not even a challenge accepted.
13:20Yeah, the guy's a master.
13:21He is.
13:22He really was.
13:22So, shout out to the man.
13:25He's a remarkable type of war player.
13:28Yeah, it was really impressive.
13:29Nearly there.
13:30Nearly.
13:31Okay.
13:31It's in the bag.
13:33Yeah.
13:33It's in the bag.
13:34So, I think this is wind down.
13:37But that was impressive stuff.
13:40And this has been the Battle of the Nile.
13:43As Rome,
13:43we'll be doing more Let's Play videos in the future.
13:46So, we'll see you soon.
13:47Alright.
13:48Later.
13:57We, who are seen as gods, have the farthest to fall.
14:16For have we not built the impossible?
14:21And for what?
14:23To share my bed with a Roman.
14:28Our alliance was born of necessity, not love.
14:32To rule as Isis, I would suckle the wolf.
14:35They must be honest!
14:36But no matter how much I fed the beast, it could not be sated.
14:42I betrayed my lover.
14:45Brought ruin on my brother.
14:49Murdered my sister.
14:52Any mother would have done the same.
14:55And still they will hunt you down, my son.
14:59The last of the Pharaoh.
15:01No!
15:03No!
15:04No!
