00:17We're going to show you some of the more advanced tools today
00:20So, over the last month a lot of things have changed
00:23We've gone through a couple more iterations
00:25And it's just really fun and exciting to be able to show you guys how things have changed
00:29The state of the tools right now, there's a lot of new stuff
00:32But keep in mind that a lot of this is still not quite final
00:36You're going to probably see some debug stuff
00:38Some stuff that's definitely not ready to go out into the game itself
00:42But we wanted to take some time and show you what we're thinking, what direction we're headed
00:48So, do you want to talk about the selection volume?
00:50Yeah, so the selection tool has actually changed a little bit since the last time we've shown it
00:54A lot of people have been asking for the ability to move the box
00:58Once you've actually made a selection
00:59So, we've added a widget in there that will actually allow you to move it on any axis
01:03So, let's say I need to create a block
01:07I can fill this and I can switch back and then make another one
01:12And make another one
01:14And so on
01:15And that allows you to keep the same proportion
01:18Alternatively, you could probably do that with copy and paste
01:20But this allows more, it's quicker iteration basically
01:24It's much faster
01:25Oh, actually, could you bring that selection volume back up?
01:27Yeah
01:28One of the things that we also changed is you can kind of see the dotted line on the bottom
01:33there
01:33That helps you see things through the ground
01:36So you have a better sense of where things are at
01:38We've shown you line tool before
01:39And I think it's kind of
01:41We haven't really focused on how powerful the tool is
01:44And all the things that you can do with the tool
01:45So, Eric was just showing me this corner trick earlier
01:49And I think it's a pretty good example of what kinds of things you can do
01:54You want to talk about what you did real quick and then
01:56Because you can actually change the sizes of the brush from end to end
02:00I can actually create corners by making the brush smaller
02:04And bringing it up to the corner here
02:07So that actually makes, like if you're trying to make a corner of a castle or something
02:10And make it at an angle other than 45 degrees
02:14That's the easiest way to do it
02:16Yeah, and keep in mind that a lot of this stuff is still earlier on
02:19So there's definitely some more polish that's going to go into this
02:22But the ease of use is something that we're really happy with
02:24And something that we're going to keep focusing on
02:26So this is something I've been working on in a castle
02:29It's basically just a bunch of stairs with columns and arches
02:35And what I want to do is make this on the other side
02:40But mirrored
02:40So what we can do is we can actually take this entire thing
02:45Copy it
02:47Go on this side
02:51Paste it
02:51And then hit M to mirror
02:53You want to make sure you're in the right axis
02:55There you go
02:56So the benefit of mirroring is that
03:00There we go
03:00Is that you can have it face a different direction
03:03As opposed to just rotating it
03:04He's now got his stairs aligned on the same side
03:07Which is something he couldn't do without mirroring
03:09It's something that people brought up in the last livestream
03:11And we just didn't get a chance to show you
03:13It's been in for a while and it's a really useful feature
03:16Cool
03:17So yeah, basically you can see I've now pasted this on the other side
03:21And it's mirrored
03:24We also didn't really talk too much about grid mode before
03:27And one of the big things that we've got in now
03:29Is the ability to move on grid and stay on grid
03:32Not just for the cube tool
03:34But also for all of our shape blocks
03:37So you can see here
03:38I'm actually moving on
03:39I'm on the grid
03:40But it's on a one by one grid
03:41Which means you can kind of freely move the block
03:43If I hit G
03:44I basically snap to a grid mode
03:47And this is really good
03:48Like you're building a foundation of a house
03:50And you want everything to be perfectly symmetrical
03:52And you can kind of see how fast I'm building
03:55And making sure there's no gaps between everything
03:58Everything's very tight
03:59And so if you'll choose like a shape block
04:02You can see that it's really helpful
04:04To just do like the edging of this piece as well
04:11Again, it's sticking to the grid
04:13Which just makes this so fast
04:19You don't have to worry about getting it right along the edge
04:22You're worrying about something hanging off
04:24It just snaps to grid
04:25And again, you can build really quickly
04:28But again, you're not constrained to that
04:29At any point you could decide that you want to go off grid
04:32And move in as finite a space as we allow you to
04:35So it's a really powerful tool
04:38And a really powerful way to use it
04:39Right
04:41So these arches are a pretty interesting shape
04:43You want to talk about how you made some of them?
04:45Yeah, so I mean the arch is a pretty common piece in architecture
04:49So there are lots of ways to build arches in our game
04:51In this method I actually went with an individual box
04:55And made a kind of abstract arch
04:58And from here you can actually take the selection tool
05:01Grab this whole thing
05:03And basically just smooth it out
05:06Until it is a smooth arch
05:10So...
05:11Nice
05:11Yeah, that works really well
05:12There you go
05:13I mean that took, you know, five seconds
05:18I know you guys have a lot of questions from the previous live streams
05:20So we're going to try and answer a few right now
05:24So people were asking if buildings can float
05:26If we can make things that float
05:27And we absolutely can
05:28We can do that right now
05:29Eric's making a selection volume
05:31And he's just going to pull that selection volume up off the ground
05:34And fill it
05:35And voila, you now have a floating foundation
05:38That you can use to build whatever you want on top of
05:40People were asking if you could use cube and sphere for every tool
05:45Yeah, every tool we have
05:47You can use it in either mode
05:50And we found it pretty useful
05:51There was a time where I thought
05:53Maybe we wouldn't need cube in specific modes like painting
05:56But it turns out
05:57When you're doing edging along things
05:59It's really important to have that nice straight line
06:01So we kept them on all the tools
06:05Painting is actually a good segue into
06:07People were asking if painting uses up resources
06:10It does
06:11It's important to keep in mind that when you're painting
06:13You're not just putting things on top of other things
06:17But you're actually swapping out what was there for the new material
06:22Right
06:23And when you remove the old material
06:25You gain that material back
06:27And you expel the material that you are painting with
06:31You can see how Eric's cutting away
06:34It's important to remember that it's not just the surface voxels that are changing
06:36But as large as the sphere is
06:39You are painting everything that touches it
06:41People were asking about interactive props
06:44Like doors and things like that
06:46They're absolutely planned
06:47We have a couple that are in the process right now
06:50We're not quite ready to show them
06:52But they'll be coming along
06:52So keep your eyes peeled
06:55Flying in your plot is another thing that came up
06:59Flying will be unlocked via progression in your plot only
07:03We're not going to let people fly everywhere throughout the world
07:06That would just be too powerful and kind of ruin the game experience
07:10So the voxel size is another thing that people were curious about
07:14We're still tweaking those
07:15We've got a bunch of different zones in the game
07:17Where we're trying out different sizes of not just voxels
07:20But different sizes of brushes
07:22Meaning does the cube have a 1x1x1 voxel
07:28A 2x2x2 voxel
07:29Or a 3x3x3 voxel
07:31And we're still playing with all those scales
07:33And trying to see what feels right
07:34But this is where we're at right now
07:36And we're pretty happy with it
07:38Alright, that about wraps it up for our advanced tools
07:41Hopefully we've answered some of your questions
07:42Feel free to contact us on Facebook and Twitter
07:46We're on Reddit and the Founder Swarms as well
07:49So we're watching and we're waiting
07:50And let us know what you think
07:52We're having a big bow
07:52I can subscribe, but we love to end that direction
07:52We don't know what happens
07:53Bye
07:53Bye
07:57You are coming
