00:03and this has become one of the must-see events of the year which is obvious by all the star

00:10in attendance here tonight well certainly the hollywood crowd is on hand the biggest name from

00:15the sports world music star everybody wants to be a part of all-star week a look at the west

00:22all-stars starting group gilgis alexander out there with donchich and it's nikola yokich

00:28and it's durant and it's lebron with the power forward and for me this is always one of the

00:33best weeks of the year so much fun for everyone involved fans players coaches what a blast yeah

00:41the nba knows how to throw a party and celebrating its game there's no doubt about that an all-star

00:46week is one great show after another now let's take a minute to talk to ali lafor's courtside ali

00:53i caught up with head coach billy donovan i asked him how do you plan to deal with luka donchich

00:58he laughed and said i think that's a question the entire league is asking luka is amazing he's been

01:04a superstar from day one and what impresses me the most is his poise nothing seems to get to him

01:09back to you all right ali thanks here's halliburton kevin durant picking up that last pass times with

01:17the bucket and this game literally has been wide open as wide open as it gets yeah both teams

01:25completely neglecting their defensive duties now here's donchich slam calm and he draws the foul

01:32a chance for another point at the free throw line that's on jalen brunson luka very intentional in what

01:39he's doing here he understands he's gonna get hit but he's seeking out that contact and playing right

01:55through that free throw good from donchich you know one of the things i like about watching

02:00donchich is the pace he plays at you're not going to speed him up he plays at his pace the

02:06pace he

02:07dictates haliburton finds janice tatum on the wing good and it's janice picking up the assist

02:15tatum's got five minutes and as usual neither team really grinding too hard at the defensive end

02:21and i think that's okay in this event i mean i say the more highlights the better

02:25now here's donchich and they come right back with their own three-pointer

02:31not much in the way of defense being played here early on well you know how it works i mean

02:36both

02:36teams will be conserving their energy at the defensive end until later on that's typically

02:41how this thing unfolds donchich with the steal

02:52gilgis alexander passes to donchich no good on the three and on an open look like that he's very gifted

02:59at making the weak coverage pay to the middle

03:04and towns the bucket on the assist by hunter kumbo well you gotta respect and admire the focus of

03:10towns i mean he just doesn't get rattled he just stays with it embraces the challenge

03:15and keeps coming took the opportunity when he saw

03:19donchich has got a couple of threes now in the first for the west all-star

03:22and billy donovan wants a timeout he's gonna have a discussion on the sideline

03:45we're about three minutes into this first quarter

03:49here's halliburton and the rebound goes to the west all-stars

03:57gilgis alexander with it now guarded by tatum they get it again

04:02the east trail by four and he drives

04:07hey now hey now yeah well this night is all about the entertainment value in terms of that dunk

04:16definitely entertaining yep and he's hearing it from the crowd i mean it's going to be really

04:22hard to top that one gilgis alexander that one falls his second basket of the game he's now two for

04:28three and the move and the basket sva has the defense shook

04:37donna's kicks to brunson good ball movement here by the east tatum passes to brunson fires the three

04:46trains it from beyond the arc brunson's got five boy there's brunson again with that quick release

04:52he's always ready to fire no one near donchich as he lets it fly hits the three point five boy

05:00put his foot on the pedal here this quarter he's doing a terrific job in terms of leading their offense

05:09and so it's donchich with it he brings it up for the west all-stars

05:13oh man oh and the crowd goes crazy after seeing that finish yep a throw down

05:22appropriate for the occasion that's how to get these fans revved up and excited

05:33pass to halliburton pocket four good and it's janice picking up the assist

05:40janice has got three assists now in this one

05:44and so steve kerr decides to call a timeout he's going to take a minute here to get things straightened

06:00and the east all-stars with some changes brown comes in for tatum and kate cunningham subbed in

06:06for halliburton the last also making some changes davis comes in for yokich and it's edwards in for kevin durant

06:25he's just alexander finds james from the line and it's in there six points for shade gilgis

06:33alexander and he had a good look and gilgis alexander made it pay off cunningham passes to towns

06:42and davis sends it back lebron wishes to donchich it's stolen by brown here's the break

06:53here's brunson down it goes for his third basket in as many tries you can just see and feel

06:59anthony kumpo elevating his playmaking skills really looking to get his teammates involved tries it from

07:06back again the west all-star wow unconscious has he been this quarter they're riding that hothead here's

07:14towns and towns throws it down yeah that kind of deep pretty typical in this event second half

07:22may be a different story but the first habits it's pretty soft oh here's edwards still yet to score

07:30here's the three rebound yannis and the kumbo and you could tell he thought that triple was going to

07:37fall and here's brunson outside west all-stars with the rebound edwards drives in and edwards with the

07:47sky well i tell you what once edwards accelerates i mean he looks like he's playing at a different speed

07:52and throws around brown finds brunson on the wing yannis

07:59here's cunningham and it's at the kumbo picking up the assist yeah the chemistry has been terrific

08:06really impressed with their offensive execution you know the defense has really been kept off balance

08:12because of the outstanding passes four straight field goals have been made off an assist and it's davis

08:17missing the east trail by four on the wing yannis

08:25the eight footer it's good and the crisp passing has opened things up for them offensive 10 straight

08:32points off assist that's very impressive and it also makes the game easy and fun to watch

08:38now here's davis back to lebron he hits edwards on the wing hands it from downtown edwards got five

08:46points so far edwards loves those long range bombs he's a confident shooter and towns the bucket on the

08:54assist by cunningham just impressed with the teamwork out there setting the table for one another five

09:01straight baskets resulting from assists they're playing as one unit out there edwards can't hit i'm shocked

09:07that didn't turn into three points i mean he makes you pay on those nearly every time and here's brown

09:14outside and davis pulls it down

09:19here's edwards and the basket is good he's got seven and they repeatedly broke inside in the first

09:27half guys and it's paid off back to brunson this one for three oh and neal's adjusting time one eye

09:37on the

09:37rim one on the clock what a play an ideal way to end the quarter with momentum on your side

09:44plenty of

09:45offense in this closely contested first quarter of play it's the west all-stars up by two we've got more

09:52hoops coming your way in just a moment

10:05welcome back for the second quarter of the main event of all-star weekend and guys we've already

10:11seen some unbelievable action here tonight and there will be plenty more to come we know that all-star

10:16action never disappoints a little light on the fouls in terms of what's been called tonight and that's

10:23usually the theme in this game i agree i mean the guys always play reasonably hard but they don't

10:29necessarily play physically if that makes any sense the officials jobs are usually pretty easy in this one

10:36we've got joel and bead and then mobley is out there with jaylen brown then it's haliburton and it's

10:43cunningham in at the shooting guard that's the five out there for the east all-stars

10:48now here is davis still without a basket and yokich gets it to go a guy who always seems to

10:55be in the

10:56right place at the right time yokich on top of that one and not as many turnovers as as we

11:02often get

11:02in this game so good to see both teams taking care of the ball yeah it really is i mean

11:07surprisingly

11:08very well controlled for the most part sometimes things get a little wild out there but not so here

11:14here is edwards following the score by tyrese halliburton

11:22brown right side and the dunk by brown we've come to expect plays like that from brown he won't waste

11:29any opportunity to throw it down it's a neck and neck game in san francisco

11:36outside edwards a three ball edwards crashing in from outside boy he is fundamentally sound tough cover

11:47cunningham kicks to mobley back to cunningham

11:53haliburton passes to brocco trying to answer back but that three is off the mark

12:01no one here edward does he let's and block nailed from three-point land

12:06they'll be with very little pressure on their perimeter shooters three of the last five baskets

12:12they've allowed have been from beyond and billy donovan wants a timeout coach needs a moment to talk

12:18things over the east making a switch tatum's checked in the west all-stars also with the sub duran's checked

12:56sweet touch inside from brown and a teammate to teammate on the assist that time well the communication

13:02between them that's what we see every game during the regular season and it's on display here in the

13:07all-star week as well

13:58crown's gotten out the assist totals devin just continue to grow they're way ahead in that category

14:05ball movement has been flawless clearly just an example of a different mindset between these teams

14:11here's halliburton the west all-stars getting their last shot to go

14:18and finished off by halliburton high energy throw down that time by halliburton not wasting any time or motion

14:28and so here are the west all-stars

14:51down is out of the combos checked in for joel and bead and it's jalen brunson in for cunningham

15:14some nice passing here by the west it's durant on the wing

15:20the west again cannot hit and i thought that was going to drive it looked good from here

15:26and the dunk by brown and very early on brown learned how to finish through contact an essential

15:33skill for an nba player to master the west trails by three outside sga

15:47and too long on the shot

15:49and it's the east all-stars with the ball

15:53and the ball travels out of his hands it was last touched by jokic randles checked in for nikola jokic

16:00and you know the fan voting is what determines the starters in the all-star game then the coaches

16:06will decide on the reserves but either way whether you're picked by the fans or the coaches

16:11earning the title nba all-star and that's an honor none of these players will ever forget

16:20now the west with the ball it's a three-point game and close to making the defense pay for the

16:27lax coverage that time and the slam dunk by onto kumbo and onto kumbo is an excellent penetrator moves

16:35as a man much smaller would i mean this guy's seven feet tall with that kind of agility just finds

16:42ways to knife inside the lane and finish through contact really impressive well greg one thing we

16:48know for sure you know that every player who earned a spot on this roster is going to see

16:52his share of action spreading the minutes evenly as you've always talked about is always a top priority

16:58for these all-star game coaches and you're so right kevin i mean for all the hard work these players

17:03players put in to get here i mean each one deserves a chance if you will to share the spotlight

17:08it's

17:08one of the great things about the all-star game and that's definitely a shot that he has in his

17:14arsenal

17:15brown finds janice and he gets the whistle two free throws coming up

17:22it's on luka donchich he's a nightly triple double threat and i think janice is the most unguardable

17:28player in the game and some stats here guys the scoring breakdown for the east all-stars so far

17:36they've moved the ball well leading to open high percentage looks lots of assists in this one take

17:42a break in addition to that how about the mid-range action we've seen from this group utilizing the jump

17:47shot to get them started in the right manner in this one first one falls for you really have to

17:56appreciate and respect the spirit janice plays the game with a beacon of energy and enthusiasm for his

18:03team they all feed off of him an attitude of joy and unselfishness

18:11and both free throws good for janice

18:16and gildish alexander's got the ball here for the west trailing by five

18:24here's randall played in with a nice touch off the glass boy down low randall can throw those 250 lbs

18:31around and create havoc tough for the defense to slow him down now here's brunson he's got 10

18:39gets stolen by randall ticked away and so it looks like it'll be still with the west all-stars

18:47and so steve kerr starts to call a timeout he's gonna take a few moments here to check in with

18:53his team and regroup

19:06carl anthony towns check in for the east the west also making some changes jokic he's checked in for

19:13julius randall and it's lebron in for kawaii leonard

19:29144 left in the first half of the game

19:32and it's donchich missing in the first quarter he was killing them from outside but he can't get

19:38it going here here's tatum and the dunk by tatum the athletic prowess of tatum on full display what a

19:45move to the bucket

19:50outside sga the west again cannot hit well he's a really good shooter got a good look for medium range

19:58and

19:59i think they'll go back to that watch out tatum's gonna stretch the defense all over the place

20:04if he's knocking down threes from the corner now here's donchich 16 points for him

20:15brunson finds haliburton shoots over kd and a big bounce off the rim but it sinks right in

20:22caliburton's got the lead up to 10 now for the east all-stars

20:26there's 45 seconds left to play here in the second quarter and here's donchich from the yard

20:32good for another basket he's put up 10 shots and made seven of them and let's see guys if that

20:37triggers

20:38another little explosion from him after hitting three triples in that first quarter and that one's good

20:44town a prolific inside scorer since his first day in the league towns gets the job done down low

20:54and here's donchich from the yard and tatum pulls it down the east leading by nine and this will be

21:01last possession of the quarter if they're patient yeah they've got to hold for the last shot here

21:10now here's lebron to the inside stolen by tatum here's yuk onto takumbo with the finish

21:21agile play to get his hand in there and get the steel intelligent play to immediately start the break

21:27and so it's the east all-stars their lead at 11 points to end the quarter on a defensive effort

21:33put on kawhi leonard it's rare to see him have the kind of trouble he's had tonight

23:20And, you know, you always look forward to this game.

23:23And this one certainly has lived up to the billing so far.

23:27There is not another show in sports quite like the NBA All-Star game, is there?

23:31On the floor for the West All-Stars, they've got LeBron James.

23:36Gilgis Alexander out there with Luka Doncic.

23:38And it's Nikola Jokic.

23:41And it's Durant in at the small forward.

23:43Now, here is Halliburton following the shot by Kevin Durant.

23:51Jokic grabs the miss.
