Gabriela, a theater student and cheerleader for a basketball team begins a job at a carwash in order to help out her family - her father has just died and she is the eldest of her siblings. The carwash is owned by a famous businessman, Tony Clemente, who will meet Gabriela and have a short but passionate affair with her. Gabriela, however, is falsely accused of drug trafficking and ends up in jail, with a 15-year sentence. Tony abandons her due to her bad luck, choosing to ignore the fact that she is expecting his child. In jail, Gabriela plots her escape, something she pulls off after having served seven years behind bars. Only one objective drives her existence: revenge against the man who ruined her life, Tony Clemente. To achieve her purpose, she changes her name and her physical appearance and manages to reintroduce herself into the life of Tony, making him fall in love with her all over again.

00:01Well, I'll tell you, it's time to eat a very late supper.
00:05Agra!
00:41Gabrielle.
00:45She's going to die.
00:47Oh no, Mama.
00:49She'll die, won't she?
00:51Where is she?
00:53We can't do anything.
00:55Where's Andrew?
00:58We can't tell now.
01:01He's still in grave danger.
01:05No.
01:07It's in my hands.
01:10I know what I have to do.
01:13Where's the telephone?
01:16I'll call Tony Clemente.
01:30Bet it's time to go.
01:32I really hate to see you leave.
01:34I don't want to go back.
01:36Well, maybe.
01:38You can come back very soon.
01:41There's no reason to hide it.
01:43You just might have found yourself a father and mother.
01:47Plus, if Layla becomes your mom, I'll be your grandmom.
01:50How about that, huh?
01:53Ah, the phone.
01:54It's usually Alice around now.
01:56Once she's on the phone, she'll talk all day.
01:58She's such a gossip.
02:01Yes?
02:02Is this Mr. Clemente?
02:05Mr. Clemente's not here.
02:07Can you call or reach him?
02:10You must help me speak to Mr. Clemente.
02:13It's so urgent.
02:15It's truly a matter of life and death.
02:17Uh, Mr. Clemente went out of town last night.
02:21You know where?
02:22Um, no, I couldn't say.
02:25When will he be back?
02:27Didn't he leave a number?
02:28Wait a minute here.
02:29Tell me what's the matter and I'll pass it along as soon as he calls home later.
02:33Bless you.
02:35Please tell him this.
02:37So he can help my dear little girl.
02:41Tell this to Mr. Clemente.
02:42That a person named Lucille, who's Gabrielle's mother.
02:47She's one of his employees and he knows her.
02:51I worked in his car wash, my daughter.
02:55And that Gabrielle was in a terrible accident.
03:00It just happened.
03:04He could bring help so she doesn't die.
03:07He could bring in experts.
03:08I know he can do that.
03:11Trust me, I'll pay him back.
03:14When I can, any money he gives the hospital on her behalf.
03:19They may operate.
03:21And they have to, to have the best medical treatment.
03:25Do you?
03:26She's my little baby and I have to have a miracle.
03:31Please, if you've ever suffered, then you know the pain of having your child hurt.
03:35And there is Tony who could easily take this and turn it around and make it a miracle.
03:41Then you would be calling and begging like me for his help no matter what.
03:48Oh, say you'll do this.
03:50Tell this to Mr. Clemente.
03:52He doesn't have to go see her.
03:55He's our only hope.
03:58I see.
03:59Maybe I can reach him.
04:01Give me some time.
04:02I'll see that he hears.
04:08Mrs. Swanson, you can see her now.
04:11We only have a few minutes, so let's go.
04:23Sure, sir.
04:23David.
04:26Look, I need to talk to you and this isn't easy.
04:28Uh-huh.
04:29The fact of the matter is I've been a policeman for a long time, you know.
04:32Tell me.
04:34I've seen a lot of things.
04:36I don't want to see anything happen to you by getting involved with Gabrielle Swanson.
04:39She's nothing but trouble.
04:43I don't get the same take on her as you do.
04:46What's your problem with her?
04:48Look, I know you've met her solely by chance, right?
04:52Yes.
04:52You're sure?
04:57And you had never met her before in your life.
05:01More or less, that's it.
05:03Is this the truth?
05:04It's true.
05:05We all know the problem she had with the factory owner.
05:08Isn't that true?
05:09Yeah.
05:10What about it?
05:12It looks like you're involved with this girl.
05:16Look, Commander.
05:17No, you look.
05:18You're gonna have to trust me on this.
05:20You know, you're in somewhat of a predicament.
05:24And you don't realize how bad it can be for you.
05:27And so, I want you to think carefully about how close you get to this woman.
05:33Because I can only do so much for you if you get in over your head.
05:38Hmm?
05:40Because you're flushing your career down the toilet.
05:43But look.
05:44Don't start with me.
05:45The nurse told me all about it, okay?
05:47I know you went to her house.
05:48I know you brought her mother to the hospital.
05:51And I know that you are very concerned.
05:54These actions are outside your duties as a police officer.
05:59I think you're personally involved.
06:01Look, Commander, about this girl, you're wrong.
06:04I'm afraid not.
06:05You have to realize something, David.
06:07Just because I'm in charge, doesn't mean I don't understand.
06:13She's a very attractive girl.
06:14But you have to forget that.
06:17Or you're gonna be in a load of trouble because of this woman.
06:21She's not what you think, David.
06:23She is very, very dangerous.
06:26She wasn't just the victim of a vicious crime, you know.
06:30She was involved up to her ears.
06:36Guilty of what, Commander?
06:40What'd she do?
06:43You know something you're not telling me.
07:03Come on, Julia.
07:05Your mother's waiting outside.
07:07I can only allow one visitor in here at a time.
07:09Let her see Gabrielle.
07:11But why?
07:13She needs the two of us.
07:18Our Gabrielle.
07:20Oh!
07:28So, Colette, you're going to leave with the boy?
07:31Yes.
07:32Martin, there was somebody who just called.
07:36She wanted to speak to Tony.
07:38Her daughter's in trouble.
07:40And do we know her?
07:41Well, apparently she knows Tony.
07:44Her name is Gabrielle Swanson.
08:01Oh, Gabrielle.
08:06Oh, Gabrielle.
08:07Oh.
08:08Oh.
08:19Gabrielle.
08:22Gabrielle.
08:22Gabrielle, my beauty.
08:29Lucille.
08:32She can't hear you.
08:37She hears me.
08:40She has to hear me.
08:46Gabrielle.
08:48My love, I'm here with you.
08:52I've decided not to let your brother Nelson know.
08:56But Julia and I are here with you.
08:59You're here, my baby.
09:02You mean everything.
09:05You must live, Gabrielle.
09:07Live.
09:09So I can tell you how much you mean to me, my baby.
09:14You are my life.
09:17You are my everything.
09:20Lucille.
09:21No.
09:25There, there.
09:26Maybe we should go outside, huh?
09:29Please come.
09:35You expect me to believe that?
09:37Why do you have it in for Gabrielle Swanson, huh?
09:39Being completely ridiculous, David.
09:41Don't be stupid.
09:42I'm trying to tell you the facts.
09:44Wait a minute.
09:45I'll explain everything that I know.
09:47First of all, the crime, okay?
09:49Some crooks break into Andrew's apartment.
09:51At that moment, Gabrielle and Andrew enter.
09:53The crime's in progress.
09:54They attack Andrew and Gabrielle, get scared and run off.
09:57How's that her fault?
09:58Can you tell me?
09:59The crime in this case is so simple.
10:00That's it.
10:01As though what you see is what you get.
10:03Well, explain why the thieves didn't take anything from the apartment.
10:06You know they left a pile of cash and a very expensive watch.
10:09Yeah.
10:10Why wasn't anything missing?
10:12The perps didn't have time to look, I guess.
10:13You know, you absolutely fascinate me with this theory.
10:17It's a real simple explanation, isn't it?
10:21Well, Panino found the watch lying on the table next to the bed.
10:27And I found the money easily almost a thousand bucks.
10:30Not something a thief would overlook, even while running out the door.
10:34Look, I don't understand how you can honestly think that she might not be involved in all of this.
10:39Look, it's not like I'm trying to defend her to you, Commander.
10:41She doesn't need me to do that.
10:43She's not guilty of anything.
10:45David, do you know where my mother is?
10:47A few minutes ago, the nurse...
10:49Look, David, it's time to get back.
10:51No, Commander.
10:52I'm staying right here until word comes down about Gabrielle.
10:54Don't talk about this anymore.
10:56I meant what I said.
10:58You have two hours to report.
10:59Excuse me, Miss.
11:05Is there something wrong?
11:06Nothing, Julia.
11:07Don't concern yourself.
11:09The Commander's feeling lousy.
11:12Have a seat.
11:19Julia, tell me a bit about Gabrielle.
11:24Apart from acting, what else does she do?
11:26Does she work?
11:27Plenty.
11:29She worked in the diner for our friend Felix.
11:33Mm-hmm.
11:34She helped our mother and worked for Mr. Clemente at the car wash.
11:42No one ever thought she was a problem.
11:45She was gonna act on television.
11:49Anything else?
11:51It's bad, isn't it?
11:53Um...
11:54No, no.
11:55No problem here.
11:57No problem here.
12:01So how long do I have to stay here?
12:03After the Commander talks to you, then you can leave.
12:06Yeah, and what if he doesn't return?
12:08He'll return.
12:11Well, at least tell me what happened here.
12:13The pilot and the woman here with him were both beat up pretty bad.
12:18Where are they?
12:18In the hospital, like I said.
12:21But I gotta tell you, it doesn't look too good for your poor buddy.
12:26Please listen, okay?
12:28If you let me call Tony Clemente, he will be able to vouch for me.
12:32He'll tell you I'm not involved in this.
12:34Then how is Tony Clemente involved in this?
13:04Come on now, Joey.
13:06Hey, Mikey, how's it going?
13:07Hey, check it out.
13:08He looks very sharp now, don't you think?
13:10Let's go, kids.
13:11Come on, back to class.
13:13Let's go.
13:19Joey Antonio.
13:21How are you?
13:22Hi, this is Sabrina.
13:24A pleasure to meet you.
13:25I'm Colette Barrows.
13:27And also, my daughter is Layla.
13:29Oh, pleased to meet you.
13:30Where is Layla?
13:31She's not here.
13:32Well, you know, a pressing business matter came up and they had to leave suddenly last night.
13:35They asked me to come by and explain it to you.
13:38Go on, ask them how it went.
13:39Did you have fun, Joey?
13:41That house is really clean.
13:44Up to the sky.
13:46My buddy, maybe you could go play for a minute, huh?
13:49Sure.
13:49Why don't you go and visit with your friends over there?
13:54That child is a true model.
13:57He is.
13:57But I'm really very concerned because neither Layla or Mr. Clemente told us that they were leaving.
14:03That is why I wanted to talk to you.
14:05I have a message from Layla.
14:07Uh-huh.
14:08Well, let me explain.
14:10See, they were very lonely until Joey came and brought sunshine into that house and suddenly the house glowed.
14:17A child can do that.
14:18You see, lately my daughter has realized something very significant.
14:23And knows in her heart, they were meant to have Joey be a major part of their life and would
14:28like to sign the papers now.
14:30Good. When they return, I would like for them to call me.
14:34Look, there's a lot more that we can offer Joey than a nice car.
14:38He means more to us than I can say.
14:40That child's my grandson. My grandson in here.
14:50Lucille.
14:52I'm sorry for what I have to say.
14:55But my daughter will survive, right?
14:59Her condition hasn't improved.
15:02The injuries are severe and she's heading down an exceptionally hard road.
15:07But she's fighting. She's young.
15:10So that'll help her chances to survive.
15:13But unless we operate soon, those chances are extremely limited.
15:18It'll make her better.
15:23Maybe.
15:23Maybe.
15:25This is how we'd like to proceed.
15:29You can see this white area here indicating a subdural hematoma.
15:34This is a blood clot.
15:35It covers the surface and puts pressure on the left side of the brain.
15:38If we don't remove it immediately, excessive pressure will build, causing her to go into a deeper coma and die.
15:46I have to operate.
15:50But we can't do that until Gabrielle's vital signs stabilize a little.
15:55Or we risk losing her in surgery.
16:03But she'll get through it, okay, won't she?
16:08I don't know.
16:12She might not make it through the operation.
16:16Oh, Phil.
16:17Oh, Phil.
16:22But it is the one and only hope we have.
16:25No, no.
16:28Our hope is all you.
16:31You are our only hope.
16:34Because if my daughter doesn't make it, then I have no life worth living.
16:40Place this one thought in the center of your mind.
16:42Yes.
16:45There is hope. Yes, there is hope.
16:50You are blessed with these wonderful hands.
16:54Because you can, you can work the will of God through these hands.
16:58You can save Gabrielle.
17:01You can save us.
17:04Dear God, bless these hands.
17:07And God mostly remembers the good I've done in my life.
17:12Doctor, don't let our daughter die.
17:19I hope.
17:21I hope.
17:24We have to do everything we can to save her.
17:28Because I promised my husband may he rest easy.
17:31That I'd keep her well.
17:33She'd have a long and happy life.
17:37What will I do if I fail them?
17:49Now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now.
17:57We'll do everything we can.
18:00Have faith.
18:00Oh.
18:03Nurse White, prep the patient for surgery.
18:09Well, that's all.
18:12You may go.
18:13But I want you to come to my office tomorrow morning at 11.
18:17Less precisely at 11.
18:18Understand?
18:19Yes, I'll be there.
18:23Perhaps you know where Andrew is.
18:26Yes, but I see no point, no reason for you to see him.
18:30Yes, but as I said, he's special, a person I'm close to.
18:34Well, I can't really stop you.
18:36He's in Ellington Hospital, intensive care.
18:40I guess I should tell you I spoke to the doctor.
18:43Nothing they could do.
18:44Looks like the poor guy's brain dead.
18:51I'm going.
18:55Goodbye.
18:55Goodbye.
18:56We'll see you tomorrow.
18:58Of course.
18:59Goodbye, now.
19:03She's a babe, huh, Commander?
19:06Yes.
19:07Irresistible, almost.
19:10Makes it very interesting.
19:14And the name Tony Clemente, once again.
19:18Are you suspicious of Mr. Clemente, Commander?
19:21No.
19:22I'm just thinking out loud.
19:25Although it's possible he's involved, it's not very probable.
19:31I mean, why would he be?
19:32I'm just concerned that a man with the resources and enormous prestige of Tony Clemente
19:39pops up in each interrogation we conduct.
19:44Or maybe she was not telling the truth.
19:49There you go.
19:52Yes, yes.
19:53Andrew Payne and Gabrielle Swanson.
19:58What is the relationship between those two?
20:01The pilot?
20:03The girl?
20:04Tony Clemente?
20:05Yeah.
20:07We know Gabrielle Swanson.
20:08He was employed by Tony Clemente.
20:12We know who Payne was as well, right?
20:15Do you suppose they could have used that to possibly set up Clemente?
20:19Makes you think.
20:20Uh-huh.
20:25Well, Bernino, you take off.
20:27I want to think about this.
20:29There must be something missing.
20:32This is quite unique in my experience.
20:36I'll tell you one thing, Bernino.
20:39If either of them survive, minimum, 20 years...
20:49You tell me if anything was the matter, right, David?
20:52No.
20:53Julia, please forget it.
20:56The commander is...
20:57disappointed about another case.
21:00And he has personal things that are bothering him, too.
21:06Yes.
21:08That must be it.
21:11I'll be with my mom.
21:13Take care.
21:35Nurse!
21:36Please, my brother, Andrew Payne.
21:38Where is he?
21:40Where's my son?
21:41Yes, yes.
21:41Come with me, please.
21:52Are we ready to go, ma'am?
21:54Oh, I am, but I can't find the boy.
21:56He's up playing somewhere.
21:57Hey, wait for me!
21:57Hey, Joey!
22:00Where are you going?
22:01It's time, my love.
22:02I have to go back home.
22:04You don't have to leave.
22:05I do.
22:06I wish you'd come with me.
22:07I already miss you.
22:09I wish you would take me.
22:10I know.
22:11This is...
22:12This is an orange I got, especially for Layla.
22:16Oh.
22:17This is a strawberry ice cream for Tony.
22:20When you see him, say hello.
22:22I promise I will.
22:24And you should put the ice cream in the refrigerator so it doesn't melt, okay?
22:28Absolutely.
22:28We don't want anything to happen until Tony gets to eat it.
22:31Until he does, no one will touch it.
22:33Grandma, you tell them that I sure would like to live with them in their home.
22:39And they don't have to get a single thing for me because I'm okay.
22:42Oh, give me a hug.
22:44Okay, sweetie.
22:45I'll tell them.
22:54I'll visit again tomorrow, honey.
22:56Okay.
22:56I'm waiting.
22:58Oh, you are the sweetest little boy in the world.
23:00Oh, Grandma.
23:01You're sweet, too.
23:03Aw.
23:07Bye, honey.
23:08Bye.
23:15Hey, David.
23:16Any news?
23:17There's nothing new.
23:19The commander says it doesn't look like the pilot's going to make it.
23:24What about Gabrielle?
23:26They started operating a few minutes ago.
23:29Come on, buddy.
23:30She'll be all right.
23:32I don't know what to say, Bonino.
23:34It's like I'm torn up inside.
23:36You gotta be kidding.
23:38David, you're fooling yourself if you think she's worth the hassle.
23:41You gotta know you can't get involved with a suspect.
23:43It'll cause a ton of problems for us.
23:46When I met her, I knew we were meant to be together.
23:48I knew it, Bonino.
23:49David, get out of here.
23:51What are you talking about?
23:52Maybe we better just go.
23:54Let's get out of here.
23:54No, no.
23:55Oh, no.
23:55I'm not leaving until I know she's all right.
23:57Forget it.
24:01You just don't get it.
24:03I didn't want to say this to you, but you're making me.
24:08Talk to me, Bonino.
24:10I didn't want to say this because I didn't want to see you hurt.
24:13But this is the truth, pal.
24:14We found drugs.
24:15They were in her purse.
24:16And if she survives, she's going away for a long, long time.
24:21She's in it with this pilot and in it up to here.
24:24Commander already has all the evidence he needs.
24:25No, no, Bonino.
24:26That's impossible.
24:27I know her.
24:27I don't believe it.
24:28She's buried up to here in trouble.
24:30So far, it's all circumstantial.
24:32No fact.
24:32Just opinions.
24:33You don't understand, David.
24:34I saw it all in there.
24:35I saw the drugs, too.
24:37She's dirty, pal.
24:39No.
24:39Oh, man, listen.
24:40Because you know how the commander is about this kind of thing.
24:43He won't let up, David.
24:45That's all you have, Bonino.
24:46That's all we need.
24:47Look, it could have been any kind of bad deal.
24:49It could be gang revenge.
24:50Or maybe it's a rip-off and they got caught.
24:53No way.
24:54I'm not making this up.
24:55David, she's dirty and the commander's gonna nail her.
24:57You don't know, Bonino.
24:58You don't really know what occurred in that apartment.
25:00Because you weren't there now, were you?
25:01I'll tell you one thing I'm damn sure of, Bonino.
25:04Nobody knows what went on in there.
25:06You don't know what happened.
25:08And I believe in this girl, no matter what anybody has to say.
25:11You're making a big mistake.
25:13Face it, David.
25:14You can't trust her.
25:15Forget about it.
25:16No, no, no.
25:17I won't treat her like a criminal until she's been convicted of something, Bonino.
25:21She's innocent.
25:22Innocent until proven guilty, all right?
25:24So I won't leave her.
25:36Oh, Alicia.
25:38Am I glad I taught the custodian to letting us into the apartment?
25:42Because, you know, it was worth the price of that gift so we could get new keys to get in
25:47here.
25:58What are you doing?
26:00What do you think is that?
26:00I'm trying to get through it, I'm trying to get through it.

35:01why does it have to be a mistake
35:06I don't understand your attitude
35:07I don't understand why you're so attracted to her
35:12tell me how this could be a mistake
35:16there are several ounces of drugs in her purse
35:18and you're standing up for her
35:20your attitude has become a problem
35:21I have to deal with
35:25well you're looking at the truth
35:27maybe she is beautiful

36:19but commander you might
36:21you like this woman a lot
36:24somehow I knew that
36:26you know

36:35for this kind of girl David
36:37what do I have to do
36:39so you won't throw away your life

36:48can you make up a reason
36:49anyone that makes sense
36:53let's do this
36:54let's go in the other room
36:55okay
36:56look in the closet
36:58and see what's there
36:59and tell me why anyone

37:11that a little angel flew in the window
37:12and put all the drugs in there
37:14and in the closet

37:17look like she was involved
37:18in a sequence of illegal events
37:20David please okay
37:23the proverb says
