00:00And Tony Petiti came out and wrote a letter to the, I think it was NCAA, I guess, about not
00:07investigating tampering when it came to recruiting.
00:11When I saw that and heard about it, it kind of, I raised my eyebrows to it because it's a
00:15rule and maybe it's antiquated already, but it's still there.
00:19If we want to change it, we can change it, but saying not investigated, that to me didn't really hit
00:23right.
00:24Kind of your thoughts when you saw that come out?
00:27Well, you know, we always heard of the shady side of recruiting over the years, and now it happens twice
00:35and three times and four times when you have tampering while you have players on the roster.
00:42You know, I get that some of that's going to go on while we're recruiting players to come to a
00:47university.
00:47That's probably never going to stop, you know, because you're never really on campus until you're on campus.
00:52But now that you're doing that every cycle, I do think tampering should be punished harshly.
00:58I think if you get caught doing it, the coach should be suspended.
01:02And, you know, they don't do that in the NFL.
01:05There are harsh fines in the NFL, professional sports, when you tamper, and it's against the rules.
01:11And I think it should be against the rules just as much in the college game.
01:15So it's a curious stance from Tony Petitti.
01:19You know, he's an easy punching bag in some ways.
01:23You know, I like some of the things he's done.
01:25But, you know, for him, I think, you know, this is an easy one.
01:29We've got to be against tampering, and especially with college and student athletics, student athletes.
01:34But I don't know, you know, I just don't know how you enforce it.
01:37Well, dang, I was just about to ask you what your plan was going to be, Bill.
01:42I can tell you what I can do if we catch you, like Dabo did with Pete Golding.
01:49And if Dabo can produce proof to my conference or the NCAA, I'm suspending the coach.
01:56I mean, that's the deterrent to me.
01:58Once you suspend the coach, the coach isn't going to want to miss one or two games
02:01because they got caught sending messages to a linebacker or a defensive end that plays for another team.
02:08If you are on another team and on a roster, and I guess under contract would be the next step,
02:13right?
02:13That would be the plan is once we get student athletes under contract for a couple years,
02:18and how do we make that work?
02:20There's a lot of red tape to cut.
02:22But once you're under contract and you're tampering with my players, then you will face penalties.
02:27And it will start with coaches getting suspended, and we'll add penalties.
02:32You can't take away draft picks, right?
02:34But we can take away money, which everybody's looking for right now to keep up in this arms race of
02:40college sports.
