00:31I think we still have one of the biggest maps ever
00:38It's up there
00:39But we started off thinking about what the gameplay was
00:42Who Rico was
00:43Because Rico is torn in his heart
00:46In terms of seeing this rupture of the land
00:48The same thing happens in the landscape
00:50The trees are gnarled
00:52The rocks are shattered
00:53The towns are old
00:55So everything is all in a state of disjointedness
00:58And a state of ruin
00:59And we wanted to create an environment
01:01That was very vertical
01:03That allowed
01:05For navigation in a way that got Rico
01:07Quickly into the air
01:09So we thought about what places in the world
01:11Have cliffs that are
01:13100 meters tall
01:15What places in the world have
01:17Crystal clear waters
01:18The south of France and Greece and Spain
01:21Corsica, Malta
01:22The map is really big like I'll probably have to
01:25Upgrade my computer just to work on the map
01:27And in the beginning it's just almost like a
01:29Grey blob
01:30Get some characters and landscapes in
01:33And taking the most amazing parts of
01:37Of the northern Italy
01:38And Corsica and other places
01:40There are three regions in the game
01:43And basically region one is a medley
01:45Of wealthy and poor towns
01:46It also has the most agriculture
01:49In region two is more of these military bases
01:51Very poor fishing towns
01:53Some classical ruins
01:55A lot of rebel bases
01:56That are hidden
01:57And in region three
01:59Which is my favorite region
02:00Is the more forested
02:01And more rocky region
02:02In the north
02:03It's more sort of our
02:05Game of Thrones region
02:06It's a huge wall
02:07That sort of divides the country
02:10One way to add depth to our world
02:12Is the idea of depth in history
02:14And so what Rico is doing
02:16Is he's adding yet one more set of ruins
02:18To the long list of ruins
02:20And so you see the ancient past
02:22The near past
02:23The present
02:24And what's the future
02:24Just cause is about changing regime
02:27And so how to make a regime
02:28That feels believable in the Mediterranean
02:30In this contemporary day and age
02:32The classic tropes of regime
02:34Versus the will of the people
02:36Is through graffiti and descent
02:38Is through architecture
02:40Is through color
02:41It's not gang graffiti
02:43It's graffiti by people
02:44Who don't know graffiti
02:45It's something that's very sincere
02:47And very from the heart
02:49By the people
02:49We're looking for a place that
02:51A place that's lost hope
02:53A lot of people have been run down
02:54By Di Ravello
02:55You could see it in like
02:57The environments for the villages
02:59Like it's just like
03:00Completely destroyed
03:01But you still have to have that beauty
03:03At the same time
03:04Like having that brutalism
03:05Versus like this renaissance
03:07Kind of appearance
03:08In the militarized zones
03:09We have more freedom of
03:11The classic just cause gameplay
03:14Whereas in the civilian settlements
03:16We want to have
03:17We want to keep it
03:18Somewhat different
03:19And really emphasize
03:20On the people living there
03:22At the core of just cause
03:24It's verticality
03:25Vertical combat
03:26And vertical traversal
03:28Having the world
03:29Being the Mediterranean
03:31Allow for an architecture
03:32And that topology
03:33Which really really
03:35Goes hand in hand
03:36With verticality
03:37Imagine sheer cliffs
03:38High mountains
03:39Big elevation differences
03:41One of our mottos is
03:43If you can see it
03:44You can go there
03:45One of the unique features
03:47Of the just cause series
03:48Is the draw distance
03:49And the ability
03:50To actually see
03:51The entire world
03:52And there's no better way
03:54To present that
03:55Than from above obviously
03:56So we want Riko
03:57To be airborne
03:58As much as possible
03:59Either from free falling
04:00Or parachuting
04:01Or in an airplane
04:02Or whatever
04:03There is no game
04:04Where we will feel
04:05As comfortable
04:06By traversing the skies
04:08And fighting
04:10While you are in air
04:11As in just cause
04:13We needed a world
04:14That we could sculpt
04:15This required
04:16An entirely new invention
04:18Of technology
04:18To recreate entirely
04:21How we were going
04:22To do worlds
04:22We have the best job
04:23In the world
04:24Essentially making video games
04:25I like Jason Ford's
04:26Huge openness as well
04:28I just like to steal
04:29A helicopter
04:30And go crazy
04:31We have taken
04:32Inspiration from
04:33Some of the mods
04:34That were produced
04:35For just cause 2
04:36For some of the more
04:37Crazy ideas
04:39That we've put into
04:40Just cause 3
04:41The modding community
04:41Took
04:43And it's a complex
04:44Piece of code
04:44So the fact that
04:46People were able
04:47To get in there
04:47And do what they've
04:48Been able to do
04:50Is
04:51Really cool
04:52I mean
04:53Watching a lot of the mods
04:54I mean
04:54The famous ones
04:55The superman mods
04:56The infinite grapple mods
04:58You know
04:59The multiplayer guys
05:00Coming out
05:00And trying to figure out
05:01How to run the game
05:02On a server
05:02All that's an incredible
05:04Thing to do
05:04Is modding
05:05And some of these guys
05:06Worked on mods for years
05:08To get them to work
05:09And that sort of dedication
05:10To a game
05:11You have a responsibility
05:13To put out a game
05:14That allows them
05:15To do it again
05:16So I kind of
05:17Can't wait
05:17To see what people do
05:18Now that we've expanded
05:19The tool set so much
05:20I want to make
05:21I just cause
05:23With a long tail
05:25As long
05:25If not longer
05:26Than the one
05:27That just cause 2 had
05:28I want to make
05:29I just cause
05:30That not only
05:30Players will enjoy playing
05:32But players will enjoy
05:33Modifying and creating
05:34New stuff on top of it
05:50So let's go
05:51Do we need to check
05:52So let's get
05:52We need to try
06:00To help
