00:31We'll also introduce you to the game's massively multiplayer mode, the FOV system.
00:40What you see here is Snake's new mother base, home of his new military force, the Diamond Dogs.
00:46As you gather personnel and resources, you can expand the base, which will in turn allow Diamond Dogs to support
00:51you in the field.
00:52If you meet the proper requirements, you can issue orders to develop various types of weapons or items,
00:57get field support in the form of intel or supply drops, or first aid and medical treatment.
01:05All of these support features are enabled and managed through the development of mother base.
01:12For those who want to manage every aspect of your army, you can handpick assignments for your various units,
01:17but if you prefer you may also leave these in the hands of Miller to make assignments as he sees
01:22fit.
01:23How deeply you're involved in the day-to-day management of the base
01:25will depend on your personal preference and play style.
01:30In addition to the management of mother base, there are also related activities and a few new surprises, so keep
01:36on watching.
01:57To begin, we'll introduce you to the primary sectors that correspond to the various units on mother base,
02:02then we'll show you each sector, review and their operation, and explain how you can create the base.
02:06to expand and level up each facility to strengthen your various units.
02:23Start bringing people in. Use this. It's a Fulton recovery device.
02:36Alright, we have our Fulton, so let's move on.
02:38We'll begin by giving you a tour of mother base.
02:41As we've introduced previously, you can freely walk around mother base.
02:45Right now we're on the command platform, the center of your base and the heart of Diamond Dogs.
02:50By expanding this platform you can enable more staff to join your army.
02:53But it's up to you, as the player, to actually recruit the right people into your army by locating and
02:58Fultoning highly skilled personnel from the field.
03:01Recruits can be called from the ranks of enemy soldiers you manage to capture,
03:04or there may be POWs or volunteers who are attracted to your army due to your reputation.
03:10Your recruits are automatically sorted into units that best suit their particular abilities.
03:14However, players can opt to reassign staff as they see fit.
03:18Since mother base in the panda pane is an actual physical location, you can also interact with the soldiers that
03:23you've Fulton once they join Diamond Dogs.
03:28As you gather more staff, things will get crowded at base, and at a certain point, you'll reach a limit.
03:33Once that happens, you'll need to invest in expanding mother base to facilitate more staff.
03:37Aside from the command platform, which serves as the hub of your base, you can also build specialized platforms for
03:42each of your units.
03:43So let's give that a try, and begin by constructing an R&D platform.
03:48This is your base, so you can choose which platforms to prioritize, along with the location of your platforms, and
03:53can customize other elements such as color.
03:55As such, every player's mother base will be unique.
04:06This is the R&D platform. It's connected to the command center by a bridge, and is an example of
04:11the spoke design of Mother Base.
04:13This platform houses the R&D team who work around the clock to develop new weapons and items based on
04:18your orders.
04:19The proper weapons and items are invaluable as you proceed through the game, so it's wise to invest properly in
04:24R&D.
04:26New projects will be added to the development list, based on the level of your R&D team, and the
04:31actions you perform during your missions.
04:37Examples include various types of firearms, along with more powerful weapons such as missiles,
04:48and other more specialized items as well.
04:55Invest in equipment that best suits your mission and playstyle.
05:06All right, and it looks like it's started to rain. As we've introduced previously, the weather at Mother Base is
05:11dynamic, as with other environments of the game.
05:14And we'll change randomly.
05:18Let's head downstairs and see if we can head indoors to escape the rain.
05:35What you see here is Huey's private lab. It's here that he'll develop new types of robotic technology, and you
05:41can see an example of that here.
05:44But we don't want to ruin all the surprises, so let's introduce the next team.
05:56Next up is the combat unit. The combat unit is comprised of autonomous fire teams capable of completing a variety
06:01of tasks.
06:03You can take advantage of them by deploying them on dispatch missions. If they succeed, they'll reap various rewards as
06:10outlined in the dispatch mission list.
06:14However, there's also a chance of failure, so be sure to select missions that match the team's skill level.
06:20Note that certain dispatch missions will also resonate with Snake's solo missions, making things a little easier for you while
06:26in the field.
06:32If you feel like it, you can also send members of the combat unit out on missions in place of
06:35Snake as the playable character.
06:38This can be to your advantage sometimes, as some staff members possess specialized skills that are useful in the field.
06:44For example, a soldier with a botanist skill will have an easier time identifying and gathering plants and herbs.
06:52It's good to keep this in mind if you're having a hard time fulfilling a specific mission objective.
07:19All right, and here we are on the support platform.
07:22This is the section above the base that houses your support team.
07:25The support team, as their name implies, provides various forms of backup and support for Snake while you're out in
07:31front lines.
07:39Supply drop complete.
07:41Support can come in many forms, including the delivery of supply drops containing weapons or ammo, or even vehicles.
08:04The support team can also provide backup in the form of airstrikes, diversions, and cover fire.
08:10The better your support team is, the faster they'll be able to assemble and support you in the area of
08:14operations.
08:16The flying choppers to the front lines isn't free, so be sure to keep an eye on your GMP to
08:20keep from going to the red.
08:21Level up your support team enough, and they can even develop techniques to manipulate the weather.
08:26With capabilities such as this, you're able to turn the very environment against the enemy and use it to your
08:31advantage.
08:41Now we could go on and introduce other units within Diamond Dogs, such as the intel team and medical teams.
08:46We'll let you discover those capabilities in-game on your own.
08:49In the meantime, we'll introduce you to some other, unique features of Mother Base itself.
09:12Mother Base is a physical location inhabited by various characters,
09:16and as such, there are various events and encounters that you can experience between your missions.
09:20Today, we'll show you just a few examples.
09:27First of all, staff you've recruited into Diamond Dogs will salute you as you approach.
09:32Meeting your men face to face like this will raise their morale.
09:35It's a good idea to periodically return to base to maintain health morale among the staff.
09:47As you wander around Mother Base, you may also discover surprises from time to time.
09:51For example, raw diamonds such as this, which will add to your GMP.
09:58Why are there raw diamonds scattered around Mother Base?
10:00Did they fall out from containers?
10:02We may never know for sure, but it'd be a shame to let them go to waste.
10:05So be sure to explore thoroughly.
10:17And hey, it's D-Dog, or Dee Dee as Ocelot calls him.
10:21He's still a puppy here, but eventually he'll grow into an adult,
10:24and become a valuable buddy that you can bring into the battlefield with you.
10:39And you can also eavesdrop on conversations at Mother Base from time to time.
10:48Some information will be useful.
10:50Some, not so much.
10:52Let's move on.
10:55And as you can see here, Mother Base also features portable showers on deck,
10:58so you can quickly shower off between missions.
11:01This helps to wash away the blood and fatigue,
11:04so that you can jump back into the field refreshed and ready for action.
11:09Forgo a shower for too long, and it will actually have adverse effects on your performance,
11:13and the way that other characters interact with you.
11:15So be sure to head back here every once in a while,
11:17to wash away the stress, along with the smell.
11:20The shower is conveniently located near the primary heliport on each platform and Mother Base.
11:28Flies buzzing around your head is never a good sign.
11:35If you neglect your hygiene for too long,
11:37well,
11:41you can expect your staff to kindly give you a hint.
11:50And in certain cases,
11:52maybe even lend you a hand.
11:55Oh,
11:58Snake!
12:00You stink!
12:06Alright, so we're cleaned up and ready to go.
12:09And, uh, huh.
12:10Looks like someone put a poster here.
12:13Aside from collectible value,
12:14posters such as this do actually have an in-game use.
12:17So, let's go ahead and grab it.
12:19What kind of use, exactly?
12:21Sì, sì, farò di farlo.
12:30Un'altra cosa che abbiamo hintato a prima volta è la capacità di trainare a Mother Base.
12:33Target practice trials, such as this,
12:35è un'unica modo di familiarizzare con le nostre weapons
12:37while exploringi diversi parti di Mother Base
12:39e ottenere rewards in questo processo.
12:41Un area di Mother Base ha un'unica target trials,
12:44so discovering all of them è half the fun.
12:58Finally, never forget that you're responsible for Diamond Dogs,
13:01and that all of your actions, or lack of action,
13:04will affect the organization.
13:05In The Phantom Pain, drama unfolds not just during your missions,
13:09but also between your missions back at Mother Base.
13:12Keep this in mind and make a conscious effort to monitor your army.
13:16Miller and Ocelot will do their best while you're out,
13:19but Diamond Dogs consists of soldiers from all backgrounds,
13:22and occasional conflicts may occur.
13:24It's up to you, as the leader of Diamond Dogs,
13:27to restore order and keep things running smoothly.
13:30Sure to head back to base often,
13:32and be a proper leader, if you're a man.
13:37Kill!
13:38Kill that son of a bitch!
13:40Kill!
13:41Kill!
13:42Kill!
13:49Also keep in mind that how you grow Mother Base is up to you.
13:52Add personal touches, such as custom emblems or color schemes,
13:55and expand Mother Base in the way that best supports your playstyle.
13:59As your army grows, you'll eventually be able to expand beyond Mother Base
14:02and establish Forward Operating Bases, or FOBs,
14:05allowing you to support more men and refine more resources.
14:08In gameplay terms, they function as an optional online version of Mother Base,
14:12with all of the same customization features.
14:14As your presence online, FOBs allow you to stake your claim on the world stage.
14:19Every player's FOB will be unique,
14:21and their development will complement Mother Base
14:23by funneling increased profit, resources, and manpower to Diamond Dogs.
14:29In addition, FOBs in certain geographic locations
14:32can be used to autonomously mine resources,
14:35further accelerating development.
14:37However, building an FOB does come with certain risks.
14:43Boss, we've got intruders on our FOB.
14:46Get back to Mother Base as soon as you can.
14:50Boss!
14:57Damn it! This is our home!
15:00How can we let this happen?
15:03I guess it's time to increase security.
15:06Just give me the order.
15:08Who did this?
15:11A competitor.
15:13But we don't know who.
15:15Can't pin down a route to their base.
15:20But we're ready to strike back.
15:22Just give us that chance, boss.
15:37Since FOBs are built in remote, online locations away from Mother Base,
15:41they are susceptible to attack by rival PFs.
15:44Other private forces, players online, may target and attempt to steal resources or manpower from your FOB.
15:50To minimize this threat, you'll need to implement security measures and respond quickly to intrusions.
15:55To begin with, artillery that you fultened during your missions can be sent back and installed as defenses on your
16:01FOB.
16:19Note that you can remotely issue orders to Mother Base while on the field by using your iDroid, without heading
16:24back to base.
16:24You can manage security settings and develop security devices, such as UAV drones, to defend your base.
16:32Once development is complete, you can assign drones to patrol platforms on your FOB and engage enemies.
16:39Here we can see the security settings for each platform.
16:41You can choose to manage basic security presets or customize all of the detailed settings.
16:45In either case, security isn't free, so aim to balance defense level and cost based on your GMP.
16:52Red icons indicate activities of an intruder, and you can analyze their route and plan your defenses accordingly.
17:01However, in the event of an active intrusion, you may also return to base and handle things personally.
17:11And there we go. FOB invasions can happen at any time, even during missions.
17:15For the purposes of today's demo, let's head back and teach this guy a lesson.
17:18Do note that while FOB does feature PvP gameplay, it is different from MGO.
17:22Whereas MGO pits groups of soldiers against one another, the action in an FOB is one-on-one.
17:27With the primary focus being on the massively multiplayer metagame experience of pitting your army against rivals from around the
17:32world.
17:34Okay, so here we are at our FOB. The first order of business is to locate the intruder.
17:38Note, we could use Snake for this, but for today's demonstration, we'll stick with our currently selected soldier.
17:42Our security team is already responding to the intruder, so let's check their status.
17:46You see the location of our security forces, and the incursion point in the bottom right.
17:50Let's start by looking there.
17:54Alright, scoping out the area.
17:58Here's one of our drones. Conditions look normal.
18:01In times like this, coordinating with your intel team is key.
18:04So opening up our map, you'll see a red circle that indicates the enemy's predicted field of movement.
18:08So let's check there.
18:11And it looks like something's happening here.
18:15Looks like the enemy has got one of our men and is fultoning them out.
18:21So let's put a stop to that.
18:25Okay, we couldn't save the soldier, but we managed to save the container.
18:28Now let's head down there and stop him before he can do more damage.
18:42Alright, reflex mode indicates that one of our men has spotted the intruder.
18:45He's marked now, so this is our chance.
18:49And it looks like our men have him on the run, so let's catch up and finish him.
18:55Alright, there he is. That's the intruder.
18:57That said, he's critically injured some of our staff.
18:59And if we don't tend to them, he may die.
19:01So let's fulton them out safely before moving on.
19:05And I believe this is the first time we're showing this.
19:07This is actually an upgraded version of the fulton device that we call the wormhole extraction device.
19:12Unlike a fulton balloon, it can't be shot down, making it much more reliable.
19:16And it looks like our drone has entered alert mode, so let's give chase in that direction.
19:22In the meantime, let's take a look at things from the enemy's perspective.
19:25Now that his cover has been blown and the defender has entered the fray, he has to be extremely careful.
19:29To help remedy the situation, he's using Noctocyanin to temporarily enhance his senses and instantly mark nearby enemies.
19:39Before laying some gas mines.
19:44Meanwhile, as the defender is busy rescuing more of his comrades, we see a container floating into view.
19:51And another with the invader on top.
19:55The defender manages to shoot down the fulton and give chase.
20:00But it turns out that the lower level is filled with sleeping gas.
20:04And the defender is incapacitated.
20:07The container trick was a decoy.
20:09While the defender is asleep, the invader is making a run towards the center of the base.
20:12And he's now dangerously close to the goal, at which point he'll escape with a good portion of our staff.
20:17The defender will retract quickly to prevent that from happening.
20:21And the defender has finally woken up, but he's lost sight of the enemy and will need to start searching
20:25again.
20:30Meanwhile, the invader is using a sub-deck to cross the bridge.
20:33Security here is light, and he only has two more platforms to go before reaching the platform core.
20:44Taking a moment to check his eye droid, you'll note the goal up ahead in yellow.
20:49And the red circle, which indicates the defender's position.
20:51The defender has a lot of ground to cover, and he doesn't know the intruder's position, so things are not
20:56looking very good for the home team.
21:02Moving on, it looks like the defender has installed infrared sensors.
21:07In addition to a security camera here.
21:16The invader successfully disables them.
21:19But instead of moving forward, he actually turns around and heads back in the opposite direction.
21:27Turns out that destroying the security hardware was a ruse to lure security to investigate as he sneaks around from
21:33the opposite side of the platform.
21:35The defending side no longer has a mark on the intruder, so all they can do is respond to threats
21:40as they evolve.
21:43And once again, the intruder uses Noctocyanin to confirm that the coast is clear before moving on.
21:51From the defender's point of view, you can see the soldier going to investigate the broken camera,
21:57as the intruder continues his approach.
22:00He just has a little more to go before reaching the core platform.
22:07The defender is in pursuit, but still has no real fix on the intruder's location.
22:13At this point, the invader could be anywhere.
22:16So the defender wisely climbs up a nearby ladder to get a higher vantage point.
22:26Scoping out the area, there are no immediate signs of an intruder.
22:32But the red circle on our map indicates possible enemy activity, so let's take a look in that area.
22:39And it looks like one of our guys has spotted him, and wait, something weird just happened there.
22:43Our guard just vanished. What is going on?
22:45Let's rewind a bit and see that again from the intruder's perspective.
22:49Looking at things from the intruder's point of view, we now see what's actually happening.
22:53He's using the Hand of Jehudi, a powerful weapon that can pull enemies from a distance,
22:58instantly transporting them within reach of CQC.
23:01And the battle cry might sound familiar too.
23:03Back to the defender's screen, we see a Fulton, which he successfully shoots down.
23:09And there's the intruder.
23:12Alright, we finally got another mark on him, so don't let him escape.
23:36Hold on a sec, was that a cardboard box? Let's check it out.
23:41Oh no, it was a trap. Smoke cardboard box.
23:45And to top it off, the intruder's behind the defender with the Hand of Jehudi.
23:49Not good.
23:51Defender's down, and the intruder has total control here.
23:57And there goes the defender.
24:00The defender's security forces are doing the best, but this guy is really good.
24:04He even dodged a rocket.
24:05If he gets to the platform core, it's over.
24:09So let's select a different character, and redeploy as quickly as we can.
24:14First of all, we'll select a character, choose someone whose stats look up to the challenge,
24:19along with some good firepower.
24:23And last but not least, select a good spawn point.
24:35Alright, there we are, ready to go.
24:40Okay, and the intruder is getting dangerously close to the core, so let's take a shortcut,
24:44and go directly to his location.
24:46Remember, this is the defender's home turf, so we do have the advantage in terms of knowing the layout of
24:51the base.
24:51It's not unusual to know a few shortcuts.
24:56And there's the intruder, so let's get him from behind.
24:58He's skilled in the firefight, so let's avoid direct confrontation, and set a trap instead.
25:03We'll try a decoy, capable of discharging a blast of electricity.
25:07Nice throw.
25:08Now a couple shots to get his attention.
25:11And good job.
25:12The trap worked.
25:14Intruder is down.
25:16Now all we need to do is get down there and falcon him.
25:19If we can extract him, we win.
25:28And there we go.
25:30Defense wins.
25:32Defense successful.
25:33Victory is ours.
25:39The intruder was successfully spotted and blocked by the defending player.
25:42Note that whenever the defending side IDs the intruder, the intruder's FOB is identified too.
25:47So if you choose, it's now possible for the defender to strike back at the intruder by infiltrating their base
25:52and stealing back what was taken.
25:53That said, you don't need to retaliate if you don't want to.
25:56As you've seen, attacks on FOBs are unpredictable, and some intruders may be extremely skilled.
26:02Today we were around to counter the intruder directly, but that may not always be the case.
26:06Therefore, it's wise to invest properly in security devices and guards so that they can defend your FOB when you're
26:11not around.
26:12Alternatively, if you have friends online, it's also possible to request help from other players to repel an attack.
26:18Every FOB is unique, and every player will have different security settings.
26:21So from the invader's point of view, it's like having an infinite number of unique enemy compounds to infiltrate.
26:26But strategy and care must be taken to ensure success.
26:29And as always, infiltrating undetected is your best bet.
26:33Rewards for infiltrating an FOB will scale depending on how heavily fortified the base is.
26:37And on one final note, FOBs are not required.
26:40You can clear the game without them, and if you prefer to keep your experience offline, that's perfectly fine.
26:46But for players who want to accelerate development and prove their worth to the world, by all means, give it
26:51a try.
26:54In the greater scheme of things, it's Mother Base that will have the most impact on your success.
26:59The bigger and more powerful your Mother Base, the closer you'll be to achieving your ultimate goal.
27:06That said, once your base surpasses a certain size, simply moving between platforms can become quite a task.
27:12Sometimes it's nice to drive and enjoy the scenery, but when you want to save time, you can take advantage
27:17of Mother Base's highly efficient cargo delivery system.
27:20Simply locate a cargo delivery point, pack yourself in a cardboard box, and choose a destination.
27:27The rest will be taken care of by the Diamond Dogs Postal Service.
27:46A few moments later, and we've arrived at our destination.
27:55Of course, each platform is also equipped with at least one helipad, so you could choose to fly by helicopter
28:00if you prefer.
28:02Honestly, it feels pretty damn good to get a bird's eye view of the base, admire the fruits of your
28:06labor every once in a while.
28:10So let's put on some music for the trip.
28:12In this case, Take On Me by AHA.
28:19Then let's climb aboard, and choose a destination.
28:26Notice that there are platforms such as the Animal Conservation Platform which are isolated, and only accessible by chopper.
28:31It's here that you can visit all the various animals that you've recovered in the field.
28:37And we're off.
28:38Note that there are still many other things to explore in Mother Base.
28:41More teams, more platforms, more options.
28:44We will let you discover those details in-game.
28:46The takeaway from this presentation is that missions in TPP are important, but growing Mother Base is every bit as
28:52important.
28:52Where the base is your home, and expanding it opens up more options in the field in the form of
28:56items, weapons, and support.
29:02In turn, clearing missions and recovering resources and personnel enables Diamond Dogs to grow.
29:07The Fulton is your friend.
29:08When on missions, make it a priority to recover personnel, weapons, and resources.
29:13Or additional tapes, like this one.
29:16Joy Division's Love will tear us apart.
29:32Oh, where was I? Oh, right.
29:34So, grow Mother Base, and when you're ready to expand even further, invest in Forward Operating Bases.
29:39Just keep in mind that FOBs will expose you to interaction with other players.
29:44Some of them will be allies.
29:46Others will be enemies.
29:48But for those who truly want to stand out on a world stage, it's worth taking that risk.
29:52Make Diamond Dogs as strong as it can be, and you will reap the rewards.
30:37Let us know if you need supplies, boss.
