00:30However, before we begin, I'd like to quickly address a concern that's been brought up by the media recently about
00:33microtransactions in the game.
00:35While it is true that a few microtransaction options do exist, the entire game has been carefully balanced to be
00:40fair and enjoyable with or without using these options.
00:42There's no pay-to-win option. Rest assured that every single item, weapon, and mission in the game is available
00:48to all players without paying a single cent.
00:51However, due to the sheer scale of the game and the time required to export all, microtransactions were added as
00:55a completely optional feature for players who might not be able to spend as much time with the game.
00:59Nothing more, nothing less.
01:01More info on how this works will be announced in the future, but for now, let's jump into today's demo.
01:11What you see on the screen right now is your Aerial Command Center, or ACC.
01:15The ACC is essentially your home away from home where you can manage your army, plan a strategy between missions,
01:20and do various things without heading back to base.
01:22As your mobile HQ, there are also personal touches, such as these photographs on the wall, which increase in number
01:28and change as you progress through the game.
01:35Also, as we pan around, you can see that our currently selected weapon is here on the weapon rack, ready
01:40for deployment.
01:45And straight ahead, we see is our currently selected buddy, in this case, the sniper Quiet, who we introduced at
01:50last year's TGS.
01:51And note that her demeanor and appearance will change depending on the situation and your relationship with her.
01:58We also have here various bits of intel scattered throughout the helicopter.
02:08And more on the far wall here as well.
02:10More photos and a bit of intel.
02:17Alright, so next I'd like to give you a look at some of the game's customization options.
02:20So, let's go ahead and open up our iDroid.
02:27Alright, so here you can see we have a customized menu.
02:29Let's go ahead and open that up.
02:30And you can see that you have various options.
02:32You can customize your weapons, helicopter, vehicles, equipment for your buddies, your emblem, a custom emblem for your army,
02:39and even adjust the color of your base and customize some other base itself.
02:42But for today, I'd like to focus on weapons and show you how that works.
02:46So, let's go ahead and select weapons.
02:55Alright, so here we see our primary weapon without any modifications.
03:01But if we look at the modifications menu, you see you can modify any part you like, such as the
03:05barrel.
03:06Just go ahead and swap that out.
03:09And if we like, we can also attach an optional underbarrel attachment.
03:13Let's go ahead and choose a grenade launcher for today.
03:16And aside from these functional modifications, you can also make aesthetic modifications as well,
03:20such as modifying the color or pattern of your weapon.
03:26Alright, so there we go.
03:27This is our customized weapon.
03:30And one other really cool thing you can do is you don't have to just choose parts from things that
03:33you find.
03:34You can also swap parts between different weapons to create your own unique modified weapon.
03:39So, the options are virtually limitless, and we hope players have a lot of fun playing around with that.
03:49Alright, so one other thing you can do while in the AACC is plan for your next mission.
03:53One critical part of that is using your walkman to listen to tapes.
03:57So, you see in your iDroid menu, we have a cassette tape option.
04:03Now, of course, cassette tapes are useful for listening to intel, such as this.
04:07But we also have music as well.
04:08And you can find these music tapes in the field.
04:10You see on the screen, we have sort of best hits of the 80s collection.
04:13This just being a small sample.
04:14You can listen to music here, or you can set it to your helicopter music.
04:18And what this does is it actually sets it to music that will play during the entrance or exit from
04:23a mission when your helicopter arrives.
04:25So you can make sort of a dramatic entrance.
04:28All right, so now, without further ado, let's jump into some action.
04:31So we'll go ahead and open up our mission list.
04:35And you'll see the familiar mission list selection menu that you've seen from Ground Zeroes.
04:38But something that's new is we have what's called free mode.
04:41Now, free mode is something that allows you to jump into the map without selecting a mission.
04:45You can just wander around freely in the map doing whatever you like.
04:48So let's go ahead and show you how that works.
04:50We'll just go ahead and choose a landing zone.
04:56And whether you're embarking on a mission or just heading to the field to explore, your first step will be
05:00to select your loadout.
05:01So here you can customize various options, such as your equipment, or selecting your buddy.
05:08Right now, we have Quiet selected as our buddy.
05:11Let's take a look at some of our other options.
05:14All right, so you see here our list.
05:18One of those options is D-Horse, which is great for missions where you have to cover a lot of
05:22ground.
05:26And another option is D-Dog, which is great for tracking and scouting.
05:33We've never shown D-Dog in action, so today let's go ahead and choose D-Dog and show you how
05:37that works.
05:41And next, since we're dropping into a remote area, a vehicle will be handy.
05:45As you can see from the list, we have various options available, ranging from off-road vehicles to trucks to
05:49APCs and tanks.
05:51So you can choose whatever vehicle best matches your play style or the mission at hand.
05:55Today, we'll go ahead and choose this off-road vehicle, and you'll see on the side that we have our
05:58custom E3 emblem,
06:00which is an example of the emblem customization feature we mentioned earlier.
06:06Okay, and if you like, you can also select your character.
06:09You don't necessarily have to play as Snake.
06:11You can select any member of Mother Base.
06:13You can see here some options.
06:15But for today, let's stick with Snake.
06:22And finally, the last step before you commence your mission is to select a drop time.
06:27A drop time is significant since enemy routes, mission parameters, and visibility will all vary
06:32depending on the time of day.
06:33So be sure to select the time that makes the most sense for the strategy you wish to employ.
06:37That said, for the purposes of today's demo, let's just go ahead and deploy ASAP.
06:42Deploying!
06:49All right, now we've arrived at our area of operations in northern Kabul and Afghanistan.
06:53To give you a taste of some desert infiltration.
06:59Straight ahead, you can see that our buddy has now been swapped out from Quiet to D-Dog.
07:06And if we open up the door, we can take a look at the scenery.
07:20And now you can hear the tape that we set earlier as our helicopter music playing through speakers.
07:36All right, we've arrived at our drop point.
07:37So let's go ahead and disembark.
07:55And D-Dog will do that from time to time.
07:58We'll let him take care of his business.
08:00Looks like he's done.
08:01So let's go ahead and get in the car and get on with the mission.
08:08All right, so the first thing that we should do is open up our iDroid so we can accept the
08:11mission, since we are in free mode.
08:14So if we look at our mission list.
08:18You'll notice that there are three options available to us right now.
08:21In the Phantom Pain, you'll unlock missions in groups and you don't have to complete them in any particular order.
08:26You can choose whichever mission you like.
08:28That said, for today, let's go ahead and choose A Hero's Way.
08:31Do note, however, that this version of A Hero's Way that we're going to show you today has been customized
08:35slightly for E3 due to the limited time that we have during this presentation.
08:42All right, so after selecting the mission, the next step will be to choose a start point for the mission.
08:47You'll notice that there are three start points available for this particular mission.
08:51And also you'll notice these circles on the map, which indicate side objectives, which we call side ops.
08:56Now these side ops can be completed between missions or during missions freely as you wish.
09:00And you'll notice that there's actually a slide up fairly close to us to extract a Russian interpreter, which would
09:06be very useful here in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan.
09:09So let's go ahead and place a marker here and give it a try.
09:12Marker placed.
09:30All right, you'll notice that D-Dog is barking, indicating he found something.
09:35This is what D-Dog does.
09:36As you proceed through the map, he'll locate animals and plants as well as enemies.
09:40We can also pull up our eye droid here to help navigate as we drive our vehicle.
09:50Enemy presence detected.
09:52We're not usually alone at our destination.
09:56We found out there's an English-speaking soldier somewhere in the region.
09:59He's a language specialist.
10:00His role is to translate information related to the West into Russian.
10:04If we can get him to join us, we'll have the upper hand in information warfare.
10:09Find this language specialist and extract him.
10:11All right, so as Miller explained, our target should be somewhere in these ruins.
10:16Let's start by doing some reconnaissance.
10:20Analysis complete.
10:28Analysis complete.
10:55So as we make our approach here, you'll notice that D-D is barking to indicate he's found more
10:59targets.
11:03And you'll notice that he's able to locate targets even if they're behind obstacles or within
11:07buildings, which is very useful in the field.
11:16Alright, we have two enemy soldiers here, which could be tricky to take out on our own.
11:20But in this case, we can enlist D-Dawg to give us a hand.
11:23So we'll open up our menu.
11:25And have him keep one of these guys busy.
11:42All right, nicely done.
11:44Now let's see if we can get some intel out of this guy by interrogating him.
12:02Well, it's worth a try, right?
12:09Apparently this guy doesn't speak English, as Miller explained.
12:12But if we look at him with our intel scope, he actually has some pretty good stats.
12:16So let's go ahead and send him back to Mother Base using our full-time.
12:40We also have a gun turret here, which we could use if we want.
12:43There are various weapons scattered throughout the enemy bases, which we can use to our advantage.
12:48But in this case, we want to keep on sneaking.
12:49Don't want to make noise.
12:50So we'll just open it to make sure that the enemy can't use it on us.
13:00Those materials have already been processed.
13:03It may not be much, but we can use them straight away if you bring them back to base.
13:07All right, and as Miller explained, there are also resources that you can gather in the field.
13:12Things like fuel, metals.
13:14These all go back to Mother Base, which help you develop new weapons and equipment,
13:17as well as expand Mother Base itself.
13:27The place was originally built by progressive royals as a separate palace away from Kabul.
13:33With its western architecture, it was their declaration of a new dawn.
13:37But I'd say their prosperity didn't last.
13:41All right, so we'll use caution as we enter the building here.
13:45You'll notice that enemies within the building have been marked, thanks to D-Dog's intel.
13:51So we'll leave D-Dog here, where he's safe.
13:54And trust his info as we sneak into the building.
14:23Right, so that's our guy.
14:24Let's see if we can get close and knock him out.
14:43Ah, okay, we made some noise.
14:45That's not good.
14:47But in this case, we can actually have D-Dog help us out.
14:49We shoot a Barkman, which makes him bark and take him out.
14:56Great.
14:56If there's nothing on the way overhead, you should be able to Fulton him.
15:04But of course, there was something overhead in the ceiling.
15:07So let's go ahead and move him to someplace in the clear.
15:16All right, there's a hole in the ceiling here.
15:18We should be able to Fulton him.
15:21Okay.
15:33SIDOP completed.
15:36Extraction arrived at Mother Base.
15:41Boss, that language specialist you extracted has been very cooperative.
15:46Says he's always dreamed of living a free life, like folks in the West.
15:50What are the odds, huh?
15:51I've gone ahead and placed him in the support unit.
15:54His job is Russian interpretation.
15:56Now you'll know what Soviet soldiers are saying.
15:59You can even interrogate them.
16:01Should give you an edge in the mission.
16:03All right, awesome.
16:04Now with Ochre Capybara in our support unit, we can now understand Russian.
16:09So let's move on here.
16:11You notice up ahead, we see some markers.
16:13A green marker there, which D-Dog pointed out to us.
16:17Indicates a friendly, probably a hostage situation.
16:20So let's see if we can lend a hand.
16:33Let's take a quick look with her in scope.
16:36Doing so reveals that she actually has the botanist skill.
16:40Personnel with unique skills such as this are valuable assets.
16:42So let's be sure to bring her back to Mother Base.
16:44Help.
16:45Get in.
16:46Get in.
16:48Help.
16:48Help me.
16:50Help.
16:52Get down.
16:57Speak.
16:59All right, and putting our new Russian interpreter to good use, we now have the location of a
17:03blueprint, which we can use to upgrade our weapons.
17:06So let's go ahead and place a marker.
17:09Marker placed.
17:17Knock this guy out.
17:19And rescue the hostage.
17:27Thank you.
17:38You have arrived at my destination.
17:43So there's the blueprint.
17:45And material.
17:47It could be just what we need to develop new weapons and equipment.
17:53And we also have some pretty cool music playing on the stereo here.
17:55Yeah, it's hate.
17:56So let's go ahead and grab that as well.
18:08Oh, damn.
18:09Okay, it looks like the guy on the ground noticed our Fulton.
18:10We'll have to take him out quickly.
18:25Okay, the enemy's down, but not before he radioed for help.
18:28So the enemy is on alert.
18:32So let's just be careful not to get spotted and make our escape.
18:40Ah!
18:57He's coming too.
18:59Roger that.
19:07All right, looks like there's a sandstorm rolling in.
19:10This is an example of some of the dynamic weather in the game.
19:13Sandstorms can be useful sometimes to provide cover, but it also makes your visibility very
19:17low, which isn't exactly what we want for our presentation today.
19:20So let's just go ahead and pass the time and wait for it to go away.
19:28If you need to pass the time, go ahead and smoke that cigar of yours.
19:32As also I mentioned, if you have time to kill, we have the Phantom Cigar, which is an item
19:38you can use to fast forward time.
19:39This is very useful for when the weather is unfavorable, or if you just want to fast forward
19:44to a different time of day, such as night, where sneaking conditions are more favorable.
20:05All right, so the weather has cleared, it's a nice sunny day here, so let's move on with
20:10our mission.
20:13And the enemy has conveniently left the vehicle for us, so let's go ahead and confiscate
20:17that, and head to our mission start point.
20:25You can listen to the tapes you picked up using your iDroid.
20:28If you're interested, why not play them while you're on the move?
20:32Not a bad idea.
20:33Let's go ahead and take a look at our tape list, the music track we picked up earlier.
20:37Let's go ahead and play it now.
21:06Extraction arrived at motor base.
21:27All right, now we're getting close to our mission area.
21:29So let's go ahead and go the rest of the way on foot.
21:32Spend some quality time with Diamond Dog.
21:34We won't be needing our vehicle anymore.
21:36So let's hold it back to mother base.
21:42And go for a little jog.
22:02All right, up on the left we see a couple of wild animals.
22:05In this case, desert wolves, which can be dangerous if you get close.
22:09So let's just keep our distance and keep on moving.
22:18All right, so we've reached our mission start point.
22:22Let's go ahead and kill the music.
22:31And download our mission intel.
22:33Extraction arrived at mother base.
22:35Extraction arrived at mother base.
23:08Your target is a Spetsnaz detachment commander.
23:11Your orders are to take him out.
23:14The skills like his, it'll be a shame to waste him.
23:16But I'll leave the method up to you.
23:19Boss, make your way to Deshago Calais and eliminate the target.
23:24All right, so as Miller explained, our mission here is to eliminate a Spetsnaz commander.
23:28And we can do that any way we like.
23:30We can kill him.
23:31We can Fulton him.
23:32We can extract him by helicopter.
23:33The choice is yours.
23:35But before we proceed, I want to introduce you to another buddy, which we call D-Walker.
23:39So I'll go ahead and call him in.
23:42And send D-Dog back to mother base.
23:48And while we wait for D-Walker to arrive, let's review the mission intel with Miller.
23:53The map has been updated.
23:57The target is camped out in that village, dressed as an ordinary soldier.
24:20All right, so here is D-Walker.
24:22D-Walker is a multifunctional robotic buddy that can be customized for either stealth or
24:26battle.
24:27And today we'll just show you a few of those features and how they can be used in the field.
24:36But before we proceed, you'll recall that we grabbed those blueprints back in the previous
24:40village.
24:40So let's go ahead and see if we can develop an item using those blueprints.
24:44Those blueprints actually unlocked a suppressor for our sniper rifle, which will be very useful
24:49in a mission to eliminate the Spezia's commander.
24:52So we'll go ahead and order development and then choose a drop point up ahead so that we
24:59can rendezvous with it on our way to the mission.
25:08All right, now as you can see, D-Walker lives up to his name.
25:10He can walk or run for maximum maneuverability.
25:14Or if you're in a rush, you can also change modes and deploy his wheels to get to your destination
25:21in the flash.
25:41You've arrived at the objective.
25:42Your target should be somewhere in that outpost.
25:45And don't forget, he has a Spetsnaz recon detail with him.
25:49Keep your guard up.
25:53Okay, so here we are at our mission area.
25:56Let's grab our sniper rifle.
26:04And then do some recon.
26:09Analysis complete.
26:16Analysis complete.
26:22Analysis complete.
26:25It's a sniper.
26:27It goes without saying that he'll try to spot you from long range and pick you off.
26:31And stay out of his field of vision.
26:34Or, you could take him out first.
26:41If you're firing from long range, you need to calculate bullet drop.
26:46The shot that travels further than your weapon's effective range will land lower than the crosshair.
26:55Great job.
26:58Okay, we took care of the sniper, and that also counted as a tactical takedown,
27:02which earns us rewards for executing difficult takedowns, such as long-distance headshots.
27:07So now that the sniper's out of the way, we'll place a marker and head on in.
27:23Alright, and as we're using B-Walker with his wheels out,
27:25it's actually fairly hard for us to be spotted by enemies,
27:28because he moves quite silently,
27:30allowing us to sneak up on enemies.
27:32Like so.
27:33And we can also use CQC,
27:35or even pick up enemies using his robotic arm, if we like.
27:45While looking at things with our int scope,
27:47you'll notice that sometimes the intel radio option does appear.
27:50So let's make a call, and see what intel we can get.
27:54Anti-air radar.
27:56Neutralize that, and our choppers can bring it a little easier.
28:00Alright, so using your intel radio like so can reveal lots of useful information.
28:05As Asla explained, we could destroy the anti-air radar.
28:07and create a landing zone nearby,
28:10but it would alert the enemy to our presence.
28:11So for now, let's just keep on moving.
28:14Taking a look at our map,
28:16we can see where the current landing zones are.
28:19You've got to extract him.
28:21And we can also take a look at some intel from our intel team,
28:24to see predicted enemy fields of movement.
28:26That said, the information is not terribly accurate,
28:28so we can use one of D-Walker's other abilities.
28:31Search mode.
28:32Search mode.
28:33Search mode.
28:34Search mode.
28:35Search mode.
28:35To scan the area,
28:37and more accurately identify enemy locations.
28:43If we open up our map once again,
28:45we can now see that enemies have been marked.
28:47Clearly.
29:14
29:21
29:48
29:49
29:50
29:51
30:11
30:13
30:15
30:18
30:30
30:35
30:36All right
30:36So here's our targets FOM
30:38And our position
30:41Subject on board
30:42Leave the rest to us
30:50You have arrived at your destination
31:00Is that him?
31:01Take a good look at their faces
31:03So we can ID the targets
31:17That's the target
31:19Looks like we found him
31:22Alright so there's our target
31:23And he seems to be accompanied
31:25By a particularly well-armored soldier as well
31:28We'll be in trouble if we set off an alarm here
31:30So let's be careful
31:31And approach the target
31:32Without being spotted
31:55Analysis complete
32:12Alright we've incapacitated this guy
32:14We could Fulton him
32:15But we'd probably alert
32:17The nearby armored soldier
32:18So we don't want to do that
32:19Let's see if we can find some place to hide them instead
32:31Alright this outhouse will do nicely
32:40Now let's carefully make our way
32:42Into our target's building
32:47Oh!
32:48An enemy?
32:50No, not really
32:52This is actually just another example
32:54Of how enemies can counter the player's tactics
32:56We've shown previously
32:57How Snake can use decoys on enemies
32:59But as you progress through the game
33:00Enemies will also do the same to you
33:02So keep your guard up
33:12And here's our target
33:13Seems to be enjoying some music
33:14So let's sneak up behind him
33:18And take him out
33:28We'll have to extract him from the mission area
33:30But first
33:30There's another cassette tape here
33:32So why not
33:33Let's grab that too
33:33I'll do about it
33:36No
33:46Whatever
33:51Grazie a tutti.
34:27Grazie a tutti.
35:02Grazie a tutti.
35:23Grazie a tutti.
35:32Grazie a tutti.
35:57Oh, look out.
36:01All right, nice shot.
36:02Let's see if we can confiscate this guy's rocket launcher.
36:06Use it to our advantage.
36:10Remember that anti-air radar we saw earlier?
36:13Let's see if we can take it out and open up the landing zone to get out of here.
36:37Clear the outpost.
36:39Okay, so now we open up the landing zone.
36:41Chopper should be able to get close, but we don't want to call him in while these enemies
36:45are here because they'll get shot down.
36:46So let's clear him out with D-Walker.
37:35Go back, go back.
37:38And looks like reinforcements have arrived we're gonna take them out to keep them busy while we wait for our
37:43chopper to arrive
38:11Crap okay we lost D Walker just retreat temporarily here
38:22Note that Miller will retrieve your injured buddies if they're about to die so D Walker will go back to
38:27mother base
38:29And we'll take cover as our chopper provides some cover fire
38:40All right nice job that said there's an anti-aircraft gun here shooting at our helicopters. Let's take that out
38:45ASAP
38:54And head to the LZ
39:03Let's keep our eyes open make sure the coast is clear
39:10Crap and we got a tank rolling in which means we got a move now. Let's get on a helicopter
39:14and make a run for it
39:34All right, looks like we're in the clear nice job mission complete
