00:08I
00:35back bro what's going on
00:40how's the leg just getting better every day i guess smaller as you can see it's less swollen
00:48so the hem of the rod in all the way and then bolt bolt it up nightmare bro yeah it
00:55just feels
00:56like a nightmare yeah so wednesday basically is um push training right the push session at the ice
01:04house that day i was feeling so amazing man so we have this frame slide this slide's like a pure
01:18metal it's just a frame simulating the the push on the actual track me personally i go 100 every
01:30time like you compete taylor's team was in the other side it's my turn i start pushing it
01:41when about to load i hear a lot of screaming
01:54in that moment you don't know exactly what's happening
01:59it's just like a shock and it's like why can i not move from from like my chest now
02:21it's so
02:25it's just out of the blue and boom everything's taken away from me
02:34i've been dreaming with that thing i've been having nightmares i believe it bro nightmares
02:38yeah i was there bro i was there you saw
02:43team austin all their members were involved in this incident
02:48there is some sort of miscommunication
02:52the track is one way and at the other end a four-man sled was being loaded onto the track
02:57while boca was in track pushing so the sled went down and they just collided head on
03:04i'm not sure how this kind of thing could happen but it happened yeah bro how crazy is that
03:10watching it was insane there were a lot of veteran guys over there that know better
03:15this kind of thing should not happen it's definitely a traumatic experience for me
03:20we're brothers on the team so anything happens to him i feel it too
03:28oh oh man that's hard to watch
03:33the ice house has been around for 30 years and there's never been an accident like that so
03:37it was a real shame to see that nobody saw that the two were going at the same time and
03:42they collided at the bottom oh he boca gets off the sled it's a bit of a wake-up call
03:48that you know
03:49safety is really important and we got to be really aware of what we're doing he goes from
03:5340 kilometers an hour forward to going backwards in a tenth of a second it was a terrible accident
04:01oh man you can see everybody knows now they're all looking
04:07it was devastating it should have never happened and it will never happen again that is rough
04:16the femur is the hardest bone to break in the body it's got to be one of the worst injuries
04:22you can
04:22have that you can come back from fortunately there's no paralysis or anything to the spine
04:31you go there you do what uh what we already start don't look back and uh i'll be there soon
04:37day by day
04:37brother yeah day by day and uh when comes who come it doesn't matter how hard some days can be
04:45on my
04:46emotional my psychological part of my life now you got to channel it into the rehab yeah true the
04:54physical we're going to repair we're going to repair and we're going to come back if i feel one percent
05:02better and i can't sense that oh man get out of the way man get out of the way i'll
05:10give a hard time
05:10to whoever is competing against me would you be happy with your career if you didn't make the olympics
05:19i'm not even if i understand the question seriously nobody works more than i do
05:26but i still see myself doing this no bull
06:01world championships is where everyone kind of brings up their a game no one's gonna take their
06:07foot off the gas for anyone like everyone wants to have their best result
06:18on the world cup circuit cynthia up here with skylar sieben
06:24my driving wasn't the best definitely not desirable
06:28my pushes weren't where they needed to be skylar sieben struggling to get the timing right that's so
06:35critical oh that's not good she's not gonna be too pleased with that 586 oh this could be better
06:45sometimes you can't get your head around it and it sounds like it's been that's or
06:49cynthia up here and skylar sieben it just became more and more demoralizing falling down the rank order
06:59i know i'm better than this so get your together soon
07:06i kind of feel like i let cynthia down a little bit with my start
07:11this means not great especially since she like gave so much for me to like
07:17come and be a brakeman so i'm a little bit down
07:22she's always so supportive so
07:33i'm frustrated and i'm disappointed i can't blame anyone but myself it's been a hard season we're not
07:41performing to where we should be but cynthia needs to put that behind her right now because it's world
07:47championships on a track that she knows lake flaccid i consider it my home track it's where i first
07:54learned to be a brakeman it's also where i first learned how to drive it was the only track that
07:59i meddled on last season so giving that perspective going into this race i feel confident that i'll do
08:07well here she's been here before she knows what to do but going into the olympics she needs to
08:13make hay while the sun shining right now
08:24winning olympic medals been my goal for a long time there's a reason that i still show up 12 years
08:29later trying to do this trying to be my best but obviously there's still a lot of work to be
08:36done
08:36taylor austin for canada mark zanette behind him johann eskrik parkinson and chris ashley so 17th fastest start
08:48if you start in the back of the pack it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are
08:53when you have skill like taylor does as a driver there's always a chance but we have to find a
09:00way to
09:01get a team around him that can get him the starts that he needs so that he can use this
09:06talent to be
09:07in the race you need to be in this in the race at the start
09:13you know performances aren't quite there but going into world championships anything can happen
09:20when the results are bad week after week you better go
09:24all right i need to step it up we could redeem it all right now world championships is the big
09:33one
09:33kind of like a dress rehearsal every year for olympic games
09:39we have full authority at world championships for team selection
09:45world cup season has wrapped up it hasn't been a great year but taylor austin can be very very fast
09:51in
09:51lake placid so can cynthia and it can be salvaged there so if we're looking at the four man we
09:57all
09:57agree that the best chance for a medal at world champs in placid is to take the crew of evelyn
10:04keaton
10:05and shaq and put them with taylor all three of them put them behind taylor and now we've got a
10:11team that
10:11that has a shot we need to take a very close look at our men's side and we need to
10:17put the best team
10:18together to give canada the best chance that they can win a medal i think taylor and shaq don't get
10:23along very well i don't personally think it matters like just to flag that if you don't like the guy
10:36you suck it up and you you go to work and you you do your best it's the only chance
10:40we've gotten the
10:41entire men's program to get a result i agree the historical performance says taylor's the best
10:48pilot in the canadian program on lake placid i think that makes the most sense
10:55so from the women's perspective canada one will be sin with skylar
11:00for an agreement there that team gives us our best chance at winning a world champs medal
11:05yeah i think that's fair cynthia's in a spot right now where she's being humbled the whole season
11:12and it's kind of gotten through to her and we've got such high hopes for skylar her ceiling is so
11:18high
11:19we're going to keep her with cynthia
11:50the ice house incident affected my relationship with taylor he was involved in it
11:56so moving forward from that you definitely have trust issues
12:07you got two three sorted in your head yeah i never really like stopped to look at it from like
12:12the
12:12middle of the corner yeah so just seeing that yeah seeing that today i was like oh okay i get
12:18it now
12:18i'm out here in lake placid for the world championships just helping do some pilot coaching i was a
12:24uh pilot for 10 seasons 11 seasons two olympics i went to torino in 06 in vancouver in 2010
12:35yeah and if you did it twice consistently yesterday i think you have it well they were both different
12:41but now like i just have it in my mind that i can just like react you know taylor's had
12:46some great
12:47success here on this track and i think it's probably one of the places where he feels like he has
12:52his best
12:53chance for a podium and that also adds a lot of pressure and then often this race is used as
13:00an
13:00automatic qualifier for the olympic games so there's a lot on the line at this competition
13:11i do feel some pressure because having cynthia help me and taking under her wing has been
13:21so amazing all right let's go there isn't a lot of people who want someone new and cynthia spent a
13:35lot
13:35of money on her season and i'm a big part of that now how's the run um i still gotta
13:40figure out what
13:41i'm doing in a devil's highway is that before the no it's uh four five six so i've got a
13:48lot to live
13:48up to and any athlete wants to win the whole thing and so i want to help her do that
13:55so you guys are
13:56doing a third yeah we're doing a third yeah when you're going into a world championships and you're
14:01losing after 10 rounds and you just hope to land that knockout punch that's what cynthia's trying to do
14:07here and as a pilot cynthia has many responsibilities you want to grab the hooks bobsleigh canada we're
14:15not as funded we used to take care of a lot more stuff now that's on her plate so not
14:20only is she
14:21taking care of herself but she's taking care of a rookie brakeman a lot of stuff on her plate
14:34it's good to be back in lake placid that's for sure pretty town i remember playing hockey down
14:42here as a kid yeah lake placid's kind of a little special place for my family which is fun
14:48growing up i was a small athlete i competed at high levels of hockey and soccer but i just didn't
14:54have the size and it's hard to compete at those levels without it i spent a lot of years trying
14:59to
14:59shift my focus into something else but it wasn't quite the same fulfillment so when bobsleigh came
15:04around i i dug both heels in pretty quick i came out here into lake placid and started driving
15:12i had quite a few crashes in my first season
15:21herniated c67
15:25horned my rectus abdominis completely off
15:31and i don't have any feeling in my finger or my left tricep anymore
15:37i think one of the worst crashes i've ever had was out of corner five here in lake placid
15:48lake placid has 20 corners and 1600 meters you're working as a driver constantly through the whole
15:55track with so many corners here you have the a stronger possibility of crashing certainly increases
16:02the risk pat has a really big history with this track he struggled especially in the four man and
16:08he's pulled out a few races in a row now he's coming back in with that in the back of
16:13his mind
16:14he needs to channel that fear into motivation
16:29email got the email came out now we know now we know thoughts back to team austin yeah yes sir
16:38sweet man time to win a medal now ultimately i'm a professional so i'm gonna do my job to the
16:44best
16:44of my ability it doesn't matter what i feel about a teammate on the ice we get the job done
16:49off the
16:50ice it is what it is obviously you know you guys with paddle season i've been with my guys we're
16:55essentially switching teams but you know eyes on the prize and we're trying to finish the season strong
16:59for me it's just winning time yeah i'm here to win yeah that's why i signed up for this yeah
17:05and
17:05you give us the best opportunity to win it right now so yeah that's what it is all confidence on
17:10you man to bring us a medal man taylor's the best driver in canada i know what he brings to
17:16the table
17:16everybody wants to win we know why we're there at the end of the day i'm on the winning train
17:21i'm
17:22not on the friendship chain how's davidson doing have you talked to him recently trying to work out as
17:29much as he can every day yeah guy will be back in no time man if anyone to do it
17:34to be him definitely
17:36i've had conversations with shaq and davidson individually mistakes happen you learn from them
17:43obviously i feel bad because i definitely let the guys down let the program down but we just got to
17:48move forward from it it's time to put all that stuff aside and just unleash and have some fun in
17:52placid and competing against the best and try and beat all these guys we definitely can do it
17:55yes sir at the end of the day we know that each one of us is gonna push our limits
18:00for the other
18:02if you can have that buy in from each other if that's when the real magic happens yes sir let's
18:07get it done yeah all right let's go yeah chris johan mark and josh yeah the guys are getting the
18:25the foreman ready getting some dry loads going trying to get into the sled as quick as they can
18:35down my guys that i have now were team austin for a while we were placed with hat norton for
18:42this
18:42last race of the season pushing team two is still an honor for me
18:48it was a coaching decision to make the change and as an athlete you don't there's a lot of things
18:54that
18:54are out of your control and that's one of them there's a lot riding on these world championships
19:02for pad it's a bit of a make or break moment for him last year at the world cup he
19:07really struggled
19:08in lake placid he had some crashes in training and he ended up pulling out of the race all together
19:13oh yeah yeah this level of anxiety getting into the foreman that just never seems to go away
19:20if somebody gets injured because of something that i'm doing that's on me we all sign up to do this
19:24crazy sport but taking three other people with you each and every run is it's a weight you have to
19:31carry as
19:42well
19:43up next from canada pat norton i've been raising with a experienced team all season and i'm rolling into
19:55this with a new crew of rookies they're strong athletes but they've got a long way to go i'm hoping
20:03that he just is a professional about this and uses it as motivation to show us how good he is
20:10track is clear to start one for pat norton
20:22so
20:24so
20:24Let's go.
21:00Let's go.
21:29It was a rough crash.
21:32Four-man crashes are rough, and that track is rough.
21:39Yeah, I don't know.
21:44Like, I would be very worried about his brain.
21:46Yeah.
21:47Like, someone should check him properly.
21:49Yeah.
21:49First, you have to make sure that he's cleared to slide medically, and I think the team is still waiting
21:54to hear if he's okay to slide.
21:56And then, is his crew physically okay to slide, too?
21:59So, there's a lot of unknowns right now.
22:00I think everybody's just waiting to find out if he can go.
22:04The World Championships, as athletes, like, that's the dream, right?
22:08People's dream's on the line.
22:16A lot of decisions to be made in the next, what is it?
22:20We got eight hours and then eight, so 16 hours away from race time.
22:2316 hours, and we still don't know what's happening.
22:28If Pat doesn't go tomorrow, those guys aren't sliding.
22:32There's a lot at stake, and it would be very unfortunate if those boys didn't get to race.
22:36Yeah, that'd be terrible.
22:38You work so hard all year, and to not be able to go out there and perform, it'll be tough.
22:46Oh, yo, what's up?
22:48The man.
22:48What?
22:49Check this out.
22:51Bro.
22:52Shut up.
22:55What is going on?
22:57Wow.
22:58Bro.
22:59It almost cracked all the way across.
23:02That's crazy.
23:03So, you're pinned like this.
23:05Yeah, the cowling is down here.
23:06The cowling is like this.
23:07Just riding the ice the whole way down.
23:10Just squeezing.
23:11Can you feel?
23:12Oh, yeah.
23:13Yeah, yeah.
23:13It, like, broke through at one point.
23:15It was just, like, sitting on my head.
23:17The cowling.
23:17Yeah.
23:18For sure.
23:18Yeah.
23:20Crashes can be brutal and unforgiving.
23:25Definitely got to know when to hold them and when to fold them.
23:29It's a bit of a fight or flight situation for me.
23:33We're either going all in, or we're bowing out again, and we're not going to do this thing at all.
23:39Sometimes, you know, having the courage to even do that is the hard thing.
23:56How you doing, Coach?
23:59I trained the entire year for this one.
24:02I have to be here.
24:03I told you, man.
24:05The moment I got in the hospital, I knew that it wouldn't define me.
24:08So, three months later today.
24:09I haven't seen you in a long time.
24:10How are you doing?
24:11I'm doing all right.
24:12I'm walking.
24:13Good to see you, Boga.
24:15Good to see you, too, Coach.
24:16I'm here to make sure I support the boys.
24:19How are you?
24:19How are you doing, man?
24:20Good to see you.
24:21Support the girls.
24:23Support my team.
24:25Lake Placid, New York.
24:26He's the venue for the 2025 IBSF World Championships.
24:30Welcome back, everybody, for our women's boxing.
24:34Let's go, girls.
24:35Come on.
24:36Give it up.
24:42Okay, Scott, let's go.
24:43It's time to finish strong.
24:46This is the big race, and they have to nail it.
24:49Give it up!
24:50Give it up!
24:52This season is the Olympic Games,
24:54and there's that expectation on yourself
24:57that you'd want to impress everyone.
25:00So, 11 sleds down.
25:02Next up, Cynthia Appiah and Skylar Seed
25:04are new to the team this year.
25:06Skylar, track and field athletes.
25:09First World Championships.
25:10It's really exciting for people.
25:11Their first time in Worlds.
25:12They've been training all season long to get here.
25:1555 start for these ladies, putting them at 8.
25:19Hit out of 1.
25:20That's definitely going to cost her for speed.
25:23You were saying 8 earlier.
25:24She's dropping back a little bit,
25:26probably from that corner 1.
25:27Yeah.
25:28No fastest speed.
25:30She could be way quicker than that.
25:33She is going to be very frustrated
25:35when she looks back and watches her run.
25:37That mistake early on, shaking her head.
25:39A little bit, double tie waves.
25:41One, two, two.
25:43The first run was a little shaky.
25:44It's going to be a battle.
25:51559 start, 400 slower than what she pushed.
25:58That's not good.
25:59Too early there.
26:01There we go.
26:02A little bit of a tap there out of 10.
26:04Oh, shoot.
26:08Come on, Zen.
26:09Bring her back.
26:10My thanks for Cynthia.
26:12What we need to do is get her focusing on the process.
26:20You have to look at it like four heats.
26:22If it doesn't start the way you want,
26:24you got chances to keep cleaning it up.
26:26Yeah, yeah.
26:27Just think about a couple things you want to fix.
26:29Do it.
26:29The mental piece in the sport of bobsleigh is so important.
26:35Your deep belief in your abilities
26:37despite whatever's happening in the environment around you.
26:41That is a massive leap forward
26:43for Lauren Alta and Deborah Levy.
26:46It matters so much.
26:48It's very easy to let some things going wrong
26:51distract you from what you're actually capable of.
27:10She's not going to love that big skin, two to three.
27:13Nova got it back on track there.
27:15She knows how to drive Lake Fawcett.
27:17Ooh.
27:2457-2-0.
27:27That's 2700.
27:28It's faster than her second heat.
27:31Let's go, Singh.
27:32Let's go.
27:32All right.
27:33Come on, kiddo.
27:37Cynthia drove great,
27:39but we need to push top of the world
27:41and drive top of the world.
27:42You can't just do one part
27:44if you want to be in the medals.
27:45All right, so...
27:47Let's go.
27:48Big push.
27:49Big push.
27:54A slightly bigger advantage
27:55for Canada's Cynthia Peer and Sky as well.
27:59Come on, Canada.
28:045-8.
28:08That is their second quickest of the competition.
28:11And that's what you want to see on your last one.
28:13Give it everything you have.
28:15Finish on the skid there.
28:16Repeats the error.
28:17Which is why she only has a third fastest speed
28:19even with a really strong start.
28:20What's it going to be at the next clock?
28:22How much is she going to do nothing?
28:24This is good.
28:26This is good.
28:27Really actually paying with a fast speed right there.
28:30She's got this.
28:32Yeah!
28:35Let's go!
28:36Let's go!
28:39Yeah!
28:40Let's go!
28:42Woo!
28:44Woo!
28:45Woo!
28:46Woo!
28:47Woo!
28:49Woo!
28:49Woo!
28:50Woo!
28:51Woo!
28:54Woo!
28:55Let's go!
28:57Woo!
28:57I'm so proud of you.
28:58Woo!
28:59You guys are awesome.
29:01Woo!
29:02For Cynthia, the story's not over yet.
29:04She has another chance.
29:06She could come out tomorrow and do really well in the Monobob race.
29:10Great job.
29:11Great job.
29:12Woo!
29:12Woo!
29:13I definitely felt like Cynthia and I proved ourselves even though we didn't get the placing that we wanted.
29:17We had some pretty competitive push times, so we were super pumped about that.
29:21And it's always good to end on a good note, knowing that you're in there, you're competitive, and you're hopeful
29:26for the next season.
29:36Oh, good morning.
29:42Today's a day.
29:48Today's four-man race day.
29:51Right now, we're not sure if Pat's racing or not.
29:56Pat and his guys are cleared medically, but the decision's Pat's.
30:05Good morning.
30:10I'd say the over-under on people's thoughts were that I wasn't going to race.
30:15And that's what fueled me to make sure I was racing.
30:20Good morning.
30:22Stakes are high.
30:24If I don't race, there's potential that these athletes don't get funding next season.
30:39So here we go.
30:42Four-man World Championships gets underway in Lake Placid.
30:52Pat and Taylor both have something to prove.
30:54We need to know, can they deliver on the biggest stage before the Olympics?
31:03Four-man's a big, scary boat.
31:06It's 630 kilos.
31:08It's 5G of pressure.
31:10It's an intense machine.
31:14Once you crash, next time you go, it's always going to be in the back of your head.
31:18Is this going to happen again?
31:20The crash doesn't just impact me.
31:21It impacts my brakeman.
31:24Four-man is a lot of responsibility.
31:26Next for Canada, Pat Norton with Mark Zanet.
31:29It's Johannes Rick Parkinson and Chris Ashley on the back of the sled.
31:37So we've had a crash in training.
31:4212th best start, 11th velocity, so they're loaded well.
31:47Yeah, Pat's got a pretty new crew, so that's a good start for me, too.
31:51Nice look so far.
31:53Look at the speed.
31:54Yes!
31:56Wow!
31:57Yes!
32:02Yeah, that's a scene, but I'm going to get down the track.
32:05That's good.
32:12Fire the cannons.
32:14Come on, boys!
32:16Come on!
32:16I try and lead by example.
32:19My story has been one that's been written on putting in the work.
32:23Because I've never been the one that has all the talent.
32:25So, I had to find it somewhere else.
32:29You know what?
32:29What just happened is going to help Pat for the rest of the government.
32:33This is huge.
32:34You don't have to.
32:35There he was.
32:35Being able to keep it.
32:36I agree.
32:37Yeah, that was big.
32:39That was incredible.
32:44All right.
32:48Let's go.
32:49Let's go.
32:50Come on.
32:51Come on.
32:52Let's go.
32:53Get it.
32:53Come on.
32:56Taylor has what it takes.
32:57He just needs to remember that.
33:00I know that I have a lot of experience and I've had results as a fast driver.
33:05But I try to live in the moment as a pilot.
33:11Come on, Shaq.
33:13Let's go, boys.
33:14Come on.
33:15Come on, baby.
33:16Let's go.
33:19Get it.
33:21So, next up is Taylor Austin for Canada.
33:25Mike Evelyn, Keaton Bruegling, and Shaq Murray-Lawrence.
33:29All right, Shaq.
33:30Come on.
33:31Should be a pretty good start.
33:33Yeah.
33:34Finished 12th place in Winterberg.
33:37These tracks in North America, the Canadians.
33:40This is where you learn to drive, isn't it, Cyrus?
33:43This is where you feel at home.
33:46All right.
33:47Let's go.
33:47Yeah, Taylor knows this track pretty well.
33:49Seven fastest through the start.
33:52That was a really good start.
33:53That rocking and rolling is costing speed.
33:55Only 11 fastest at the moment.
33:58Come on.
33:58Come on.
33:59Rear and his legs moving around.
34:01Oh, what?
34:03The tidiest run.
34:05Eight best speed.
34:06Is this a top-ten run?
34:07Plus nine.
34:09Eleven.
34:10Two hundreds out of the top ten.
34:12Now he's tied with Sun Kai-Chi of China and Cedric Folidor.
34:18Could be better.
34:19It was a little bumpy.
34:21So, 55-29 is quite a popular downtime at the moment.
34:25It's okay.
34:26Got three more.
34:27Three more.
34:28Three more to go.
34:31How do you feel?
34:33The whole drive's crazy, bro.
34:35I've seen it.
34:36He's not locked in.
34:37He's not focused.
34:39His mind is elsewhere.
34:41You've got to give everything to this, man.
34:43The Olympics right there.
34:45Blessing to our match, bro.
34:51I was thinking too much.
34:52I was in my own way.
34:54You just have to, you know, jump in the seat and just not think about the line.
35:00It's like, no, you just need to do.
35:04See that?
35:05You know what I mean?
35:06Like, you are lower.
35:06But, like, in that scenario, you just started opening up too soon.
35:10A couple little things, you know?
35:12Taylor can turn this around.
35:13He just needs to focus on what he knows how to do and go and execute.
35:17A top ten finish is still possible.
35:19Put it together on this last run.
35:21Be free.
35:22You know what to do.
35:24Let your brain just respond to the track.
35:34Let your brain just respond to the track.
36:07He didn't have a skid.
36:09A little momentum still.
36:11At least Taylor knows he's the last run.
36:13He's got a different thing he's got.
36:14Top speed for Taylor Austin.
36:16Two tenths up on Sun Kai Chi.
36:19He's only 1,200 away from a top ten finish.
36:22Yeah, this is a solid run from Taylor.
36:23Let's go.
36:24Not bad at all.
36:25He's letting it fly.
36:26Top speed again.
36:273,200 up.
36:29It's a big run from Taylor Austin.
36:31If this is not top ten, 55-71.
36:37That's very impressive from Taylor Austin.
36:40He's going, yeah, that's how it feels.
36:43Got it.
36:44Taylor had a fantastic last run.
36:52Pulled it all together.
36:53Moving forward, I hope Taylor can build some confidence off that last run.
36:59The Canadians will be 8th place.
37:01It's a really good reward for their final day of action.
37:05Hey, there's Boka.
37:06Hey, to the winner's box.
37:08It was something that I wasn't planning.
37:10That was a shock that put me in there.
37:12He's like, come here.
37:13You're a part of this.
37:15In the end, I was like, yeah, this is my team.
37:30Taylor really struggled.
37:31He had a hard race.
37:32Yeah.
37:33He's going to see how fast that run was, and he's going to realize if he did four like
37:36that, he'd be right up there with those boys.
37:38That's Bob Slay, though.
37:40How do you feel, Taylor?
37:43Thanks to him.
37:50At least we got one on the last one.
37:58Welcome back to the final day of action in Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains
38:03to decide the finishing order of the IBSF Women's Monobob World Championships.
38:10The whole season was a little bit of a flop as far as the two-woman event goes,
38:15but Monobob is Cynthia's strength, and Cynthia's last hope for a podium.
38:21Basically, I just told her to shut the mind off, push like a beast, let it fly, let it come.
38:26Cynthia needs a really good start here.
38:29She has to dial it in.
38:30It all comes down to this.
38:33Good day for a bobsled ride.
38:35Sink it.
38:36Let's go, Cynthia.
38:37There isn't a track where I'm not standing at the top of the hill without butterflies in
38:41my stomach, but World Champs is where it matters.
38:45I can't turn back now.
38:47Let's do this.
38:49Cynthia, I'm here of Canada.
38:51The fastest start of the competition.
38:53This is electrified.
38:55She had some of that Canadian maple syrup, and she's ready to go.
38:5826 hundreds up at the start.
39:00A little unconventional.
39:01A little unconventional work, though.
39:0243 hundreds.
39:05There it is.
39:06And look at those guns.
39:07She's one heck of a strong woman.
39:09What if she started 580?
39:10Yeah, that's more like Cynthia.
39:15Woo-hoo!
39:17Let's go!
39:18Have a tight race, Mark.
39:20This is going to be one heck of a showdown for the top six for medal contingency.
39:26After three runs, Cynthia's sitting in fifth.
39:29She needs to make this run count if she wants to end up on the podium.
39:34Cynthia Apia looking for a medal here.
39:37She's had one World Cup medal, two only.
39:41Top six finishes this season.
39:43She's ending at least on the upward trend.
39:46580 push to tie.
39:47For fair speed, though, the gap's coming back down.
39:49It's hard from 2,300 to 1,200.
40:01Hung it up on 12 a little bit there.
40:03That will kill some of her speed.
40:05But awesome chicane.
40:067th best speed.
40:07It's going to be close at the bottom, Mark.
40:09I'm not sure she's got enough speed on board.
40:16Oh, what's it going to be?
40:187,000 of a second.
40:21And that's impressive.
40:22That's good.
40:2359.65 run for Cynthia Apia.
40:25She is in the top five.
40:27She is on the wide opponent.
40:29And that is a good result.
40:33So four to go.
40:35So Cynthia's first with four more sleds to go.
40:38Yeah.
40:38But the top three have a pretty good lead on her.
40:41What about Katty Bile?
40:42Yeah.
40:43Katty was 100th ahead of Apia after three heats.
40:47It's an exciting moment.
40:49You're kind of watching, you know,
40:50secretly hoping that the person makes some mistakes
40:52and you keep climbing up that leaderboard.
40:588th fastest speed.
41:02All of our funding is tied to how we perform at World Cup.
41:05She needs to gain 800.
41:07Every spot you move up leaderboard is going to help my funding
41:10boost my potential to win an Olympic medal.
41:12Quicker than Cynthia down through the bottom.
41:15It's going to be close, Mark.
41:17No, it's not.
41:21Wow.
41:22She drops two spots.
41:23Bring up Cynthia.
41:24Left fourth.
41:26So fourth place for Cynthia Apia.
41:29Her best ever World Championship result.
41:32And they came up one spot short.
41:33Fourth place is amazing result.
41:38Welcome to the medalist.
41:40In fourth place, representing Canada, Cynthia Apia.
41:46I'm really happy.
41:47It's my best result out of all the world championships
41:50that I've competed in.
41:51So, things are looking good for next season.
41:53Gold medalist, Keisha Love.
41:58This season was extremely difficult.
42:01But Cynthia finishing fourth is something to be proud of.
42:05Especially going into an Olympic year.
42:07Something we can build on now.
42:16Okay, guys, listen up.
42:18Wrap up meeting.
42:19This season was the hardest season of my life.
42:23And it was way harder for you guys.
42:26But the story's not over.
42:29And next year is going to be hard, too.
42:32It's an Olympic year.
42:34Unfortunately, my season finished in a way that I didn't expect.
42:39I'm just not going to end like this.
42:40It's going to end the way I want to end.
42:42I'm definitely going to be in the Olympics 2026.
42:45One way or the other.
42:47By the end of the season, I learned I'm all in.
42:52Everyone wants to go to the Olympics.
42:54Everyone wants to win those medals.
42:56And I'm going for it.
42:582026, Milano Cortina.
43:00That's the main goal.
43:01And I'm ready to go to battle.
43:03Because it's going to be a fight out there.
43:05It's our time for redemption.
43:07Italy 2026.
43:08We've got to do some soul searching.
43:10Look ourselves in the mirror.
43:12Train twice as hard.
43:14This is it.
43:15It's the Olympic season now.
43:16It's all or nothing.
43:18The World Cup season was pretty tough on us.
43:21I'm learning from it.
43:22And I'm ready to go into the next season and execute.
43:25See if we can win a medal in the Olympics.
43:26As long as I give it my all, I'll be proud of myself.
43:29And hopefully the rest of Canada will be proud of me as well.
43:31Going into the Olympic season, no one's going to push me as hard as I will.
43:35It's what motivates me to be the best that I can.
43:38I'm nipping at everyone's heels and I'm going to show everyone that I'm actually the top dog.
43:43This year was really hard.
43:45But my work is not finished.
43:48Kicking or screaming, we're going to get there.
43:51To the big final crescendo.
43:54The Olympic Games.
44:03Kicking or of the Olympic Games.
44:06Well, we'll be facing another 5-year-old now.
