00:14We say goodbye to fired candidate Harry, and Lord Sugar lets us in on whether our candidates have finally redeemed

00:39Task eight, discount buying the redemption story.
00:42How do we think they got on?
00:44I mean, they redeemed themselves, didn't they?

00:47That wouldn't be hard now, to be fair.
00:49Look, Hong Kong was a tough task.
00:51It was, because first of all, Hong Kong is so big.
00:56There's Hong Kong, there's Kowloon, the New Territory.
00:57It's massive, much bigger.
00:59So it wasn't just that they made it look hard?
01:01It was hard.

01:02And they had a language barrier.
01:04There is a language barrier there.
01:05I think they did well.

01:07Well, they weren't sweating this time.

01:09They were sweaty, the first episode.

01:14Humid, rainy.
01:15It was tough.
01:16But also task one, trying to manage yourself, where you fit in a group, what people bring
01:23to the table the first time round.
01:25By task eight, they're much more experienced, they're much more together.
01:29They've got a lot more under their belts.
01:31How do you think you'd fare at this task, Nikita?
01:34Oh, well, I'm not going to lie.
01:36I didn't really know all the items that they had to go and get.
01:39So they did well for that.
01:40So hats off to them.
01:41Because there was some difficult named items.
01:43What did you think the bird's nest was?
01:45A bird's nest?
01:46Okay.
01:46I thought, oh, should I just go to my nan's garden and get it?
01:49Like, that's what I was thinking.
01:50I did not think it was a donut.
01:51I've never heard of a bird's nest donut before.
01:53No, sounds delicious though.
01:55Bargaining's in your blood, I feel.
01:57I think you come into your own in this.
02:00Yeah, well, bargaining is.
02:02I'm a buyer and a seller, aren't I?
02:03So I think I'd have done pretty well at this.
02:06Because in this kind of a task, the first thing you've got to do
02:10is really know what the items are when you know what they are.
02:13And then you know how to go for the most expensive one first
02:16because that's always the best way to plan it.
02:19There's a lot of planning.
02:20And, yeah, price negotiation and knowing not to waste time
02:24on a cheaper item, to waste a load of time
02:27for 25p better to prioritise
02:29and go for the hard negotiation on the most expensive item.
02:34You started on a market stall, so I feel like you would have,
02:37I imagine, people coming up and trying their luck.
02:40Yeah, well, you know.
02:41Would you have given us 25p, Uncle Linda?
02:43I was only 13 was on the market, so I was much nicer in those days.
02:49Nikita, do you remember, like, a bargain that you've kind of,
02:53you feel proud of?
02:54Do you know what?
02:55So whenever I've gone to buy, like, my Indian outfits,
02:58like I'm going to, like, my Indian weddings and stuff,
03:00you go to Southall, right?
03:02You go to the Indian shop and there's all the pretty saris
03:05and the lengars and everything.
03:06And there is where you can really bargain.
03:10That is where I got my practice in for bargaining.
03:12And you know what?
03:13When you can get a really healthy discount,
03:15you feel so proud of yourself walking away.
03:17So when I go to that wedding and I've got my pretty dress on,
03:20I'm like, you know what?
03:21I got this for 50 quid and they were trying to sell it to me for 200.
03:25Get it, girl.
03:26That is where I feel proud.
03:28I feel proud of you too, babes.
03:29Out of all the negotiations,
03:31there was one that was somewhat unconventional.
03:34Shall we remind ourselves of Kieran and Lawrence
03:36mucking out the goats?

04:20And actually then they just sort of sauntered the afternoon away,
04:24doing out the goats thing, drinking.

04:27So you liked that approach?
04:29I don't like it, but it was very amusing and it was great TV.

04:34Kieran, it wasn't just with the goats that he got a bit frisky.
04:37The Maddox White, he was very smooth in his garlic negotiation, wasn't he?
04:41He should have just taken a bite, do you know what I mean?

04:55because the other team actually negotiated a better price.
04:58And when you get that contrast with Priya,

05:02And his idea, I mean, it could have gone wrong,

05:25And I felt like she wanted to do it to make herself feel better too.

05:36Obviously, she did waste a lot of time, just the 25p.

05:43But arguably, the most valuable thing out of that
05:45was the fact that they figured out what a cassette was,
05:48because he looked like a man who knew what that was.
05:50And to be fair, that was quite difficult,
05:52because I actually thought that cassette was an eight-track player.
05:54So did I say.
05:55So that was clever.
05:57We all learnt a lot, didn't we, from watching this talk?
05:59It's an educational programme, what can we say?
06:01Right. And she potentially could have missed out,
06:04although their risky business paid off in the end.
06:07They swerved, last minute, a little detour
06:10to get the rhubarb and custard sweets.
06:13Yeah, I mean, they were lucky with that, weren't they?
06:15Because they were running towards the hover boat after that,
06:18and the other team didn't end up getting it in the end.
06:20The other team, they got to the boat early.
06:22They had the time to find the sweets.
06:24It wasn't a difficult item.
06:25A lot of the time, they're just looking at how many items they've gotten,
06:28rather than the value of it.
06:30Would you have risked it to get the sweets?
06:31Yeah, risk it for a chocolate biscuit, Angela.
06:35I've got a sweet tooth, so 100%, give me that rhubarb and custard now.

06:39They had time, they had time.

06:44So do you think the other team just sat back on the hovercraft, you know?

07:09Both PMs, very, very different approaches.
07:12What do you make of the management styles?
07:13Let's start, first of all, with Levi.
07:16So Levi was really relaxed.
07:18He was kind of like, you can all do what you want.
07:19I'll leave it to you, whatever you decide.
07:22You could say Levi's management style strategy was non-existent.
07:26Okay.
07:27Actually.

07:28I mean, look, Levi's a good northern boy, and I'm a northern girl,
07:32so, you know, I've got to support him.
07:33You've got to back him.
07:34Yeah.
07:34No, it was non-existent, wasn't it?
07:37So we're not backing him at all, actually.
07:38I mean, I've got to be honest.
07:41Look, he had no strategy.
07:43He had no time management.
07:45He didn't know how to split the teams,
07:47and he didn't know what any of the items were.

07:50But he was on that phone, like a dinger all morning.
07:52Look, I didn't say he wasn't a trier.

07:56Kieran had unfinished business from Hong Kong,
08:00so he was, like, straight in, I want this task, I want to be PM.
08:03I was somewhat surprised that they handed it to him.
08:07Well, he did vote for himself as well, didn't he?

08:12I was surprised, too, just because he's been PM,
08:15and it obviously was a disaster for everyone on that first episode.
08:19But maybe they just thought, give him a chance to redeem himself.
08:22He's learnt.
08:23He, unlike Levi, had a very clear strategy,
08:27the 3-1-2 approach.
08:30Talk us through the 3-1-2 approach, Linda,
08:33and your experience of it.
08:34I don't quite understand the 3-1-2 approach.
08:37Thank God, I thought it was just me.
08:38No, I didn't.
08:39And actually, the truth is, it was sort of sticking by,
08:41but he went by the wayside anyway.
08:43He went by the wayside.
08:45I think, you know, when you're negotiating,
08:48you should start low, because you can always go up.
08:52And I think it's quite good to be a bit charming and a bit nice.
08:57Pasha, she went in telling the lady,
08:59well, we haven't got much time, and could you, and would you,
09:03and we haven't got much time.
09:05I mean, oh, my God, if there was ever, don't do, that was it.
09:09Don't do that.
09:11Yeah, OK.
09:11So it's building the rapport, isn't it?
09:13And it's a bit of charm, and it's a bit of cheek.
09:15And rapport is everything.
09:17You get far more being nice and being charming
09:21and having a nice manner
09:23than you do sort of being a bit more aggressive and a bit more...
09:26You get more bees with honey than with vinegar.
09:28Do you know something?
09:30I always say that.
09:31You get a lot more being nice than you do not being nice.
09:34Which is where I think possibly Kieran slightly fell down
09:38in that kind of dogmatic 3-1-2 approach,
09:41because I think sometimes it depends on the human that's in front of you,
09:44and they quite like the game and the dance of a negotiation,
09:47whereas it was a little too...
09:49I don't think there can ever be a dogmatic approach in negotiation.
09:53It's never, these are the rules, stick by it, never deviate.
09:56You can't, that's not negotiation.
09:59Ultimately, with Levi winning on a last-minute sweet grab,
10:02do we think that this task really is less about bargaining skills
10:06and more about actual time management, Nikita?
10:08I think they need a bit of both, but I think it was more time management.
10:12They actually, the other team had the time to go and get the sweets,
10:15but they wanted to just be back before them and wanted to be back early.
10:18I think if they had enough time, go and get them.
10:21The other team still managed to do it.
10:22Levi, they grabbed them and went, didn't they?
10:24Now, if Ciarán's team had got that extra item,
10:28they still would have lost because of the sup.
10:31Well, the sup was the disaster.

11:09redeeming themselves from the disaster of Hong Kong.

11:15It wasn't one for the history books,
11:17but at least this time they actually came back with some items.
11:21Compared to Hong Kong shambles,
11:24this was a step in the right direction,
11:26but the lesson remains the same.
11:29If a deal's bad, walk away.
11:33Harry didn't do that with SUP.
11:35It hit the bottom line,
11:37and that's why, sadly, he's out.
11:42Linda, is it that?
11:43Is knowing when to walk away,
11:46is that a hard lesson that you have to learn through experience?
11:49You have to know what your bottom line is,
11:52what is your parameter,
11:53and if it doesn't meet that criteria,
11:55you have to walk away.
11:56And sometimes walking away shows your opponent
12:00that actually, right, I've drawn a line,
12:02and sometimes it gives them the thing,
12:04well, let me come back.
12:05You have to know when to walk away,
12:08otherwise you can't be any good in business.
12:09Have you had any instances where you've had to walk away?

13:45Do you think, though, knowing that many,

13:53Yeah, I think so.

13:55if you know what it is,
13:56and sometimes you're wrong,
13:57which obviously we were,
13:58but it really helps,

14:01because at the beginning,
14:02you're kind of,
14:03you don't know where to go,
14:04so you have to drive somewhere.
14:06So you're just driving around aimlessly.

14:12And it just means that,

14:14let's say we thought the sup was a fish.

16:23in the instance of this up?
16:25I didn't know what it was first,
16:27so yeah,
16:27it probably would have taken me ages as well

16:30But I would have walked away.
16:31I feel like that's a really good trick.

16:33I've always been taught it from like young,
16:35we've been on holiday,
16:36family holidays,

16:37you're trying to buy some souvenirs
16:38for your friends and family
16:39and they're trying to up the price
16:40because they know you're not from there
16:41and then you walk away
16:42and you come back.
16:43So I would have walked away,
16:45I think.
16:45To be honest,
16:46I didn't even know
16:46walking away was an option.
16:50But like,
16:51it clearly is.
16:53And what did you make
16:54of Kieran and Lawrence's
16:55lads' day out?
16:57To be honest,
16:57I absolutely loved watching it back.

18:37particularly dramatic.

20:16I don't have much game for me
20:17apart from my character.
20:18So I was like,
20:19I'm not going to come across.
20:20That's a lot of the point
20:21of the show.

20:23with a large number
20:24of candidates
20:25and you come down
20:26to the final five.
20:27And it's gruelling,
20:28actually.
