The Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh has acquitted and discharged Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM) vice-chancellor Prof Dr G. Jayakumar after the prosecution withdrew a charge against him under Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Also acquitted and discharged were MUCM head of student affairs K. Dachaini and counsellor J. Lavanya.

00:07an internal email about a mobile game.
00:10The Sessions Court in Ayer Kero, Malacca on Wednesday acquitted and discharged three senior officials from Manipul University College, Malaysia,
00:18after the prosecution dropped charges against them under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
00:22At the centre of the case was MUCM's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. G. Jayakumar, along with the university's Head of
00:30Student Affairs, K. Decheny and Councillor J. Lavanya.
00:34All three had been charged under Section 233, Subsection 1 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, 1998,
00:41a provision that deals with improper use of network facilities or services.
00:45The charges stemmed from an internal university email, one that was reportedly related to the popular e-sports game, Mobile
00:51Legends.
00:52Judge Rohatul Akhmar Abdullah granted a full discharge and acquittal, bringing the matter to a formal close.
00:59In a statement, MUCM said it welcomed the conclusion of the judicial process,
01:03noting it allows the individuals to resume their academic and professional duties without further disruption.
