00:02We need to move on to Eid, Eid al-Fitr, which is a wonderful celebration for the Muslims.
00:09But I would very much like you now to define the term Eid.
00:28The word Eid means something which is habitual.
00:33It also means to return.
00:36It also means to repeat.
00:38In short, Eid means it is a recurring event and it can also be used for a particular
00:49place which people visit periodically.
00:53It can also mean a time period where a particular act is done regularly.
01:01The proval of Eid is Ayad.
01:04It is a day of gathering.
01:05The Eid is derived from the Arabic word Adha, which means to return.
01:10And people return this event every year.
01:15That's Eid.
01:16And Ibn al-Arabi, he says that the reason Eid is called because it returns the happiness every year.
01:26And the word Eid, some people say, is also derived from Adha, which means a custom, which means tradition.
01:35So people accustomed to celebrating Eid, therefore the word Eid is there.
01:40According to Muslim Ahmed, volume number 3, hadith number 12006, Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, one day enters the city
01:50of Medina.
01:51And before in the days of Jahiliya, in the days of ignorance, the people from Medina used to celebrate two
02:01days of sports and amusement.
02:05One was the day of Nehruz, which was the new year.
02:11The other was the day of Maharajan, which was the final day of the year.
02:16So Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says that you people in the days of Jahiliya used to celebrate two
02:23days with sports and amusement.
02:26Now, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala replaced it with two better days.
02:31The days of Nahar, that is the day of sacrifice, and the day of Fitr, that is the day of
02:36breaking, indicating the Eidain.
02:37The two Eid we have, Eid al-Adha and the Eid al-Fitr, they have replaced with the previous days
02:42of Jahiliya.
02:43So here we come to know that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has replaced the days of Jahiliya, where people
02:47used to enjoy with play and amusement,
02:49with days that are a better day of sacrifice, the day of forgiveness, etc., which is much better for them,
02:55for this world as well as for the Akhira.
