00:00The next question from the YouTube, from Imam Hussain Raqib.

00:03As-salamu alaykum sir, wa alaykum as-salam, wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

00:07Why only the wife have to take permission for voluntary fast, not the husband?

00:12They have the same need, her right also deprived, and the same reason can be applied for him.

00:22The question posed by the Raqib is that in voluntary fast,

00:27if a wife, if a woman has to fast and if she's married, she has to take the permission of the husband.

00:33But if the husband has to do voluntary fast, he doesn't have to take the permission of the wife.

00:39So why is this injustice?

00:41What if you understand that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has created man and woman?

00:46And Allah says in the Quran, in Surin Nisaa chapter 4, verse 34,

00:50Al-Rijal-u Qawwamun Nisaa, that the man is the Qawwam of the woman.

00:54That Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has made her to protect the woman.

00:58Similarly, in a sexual relationship, science today tells us that man is the active partner,

01:06and the woman is the passive partner.

01:08Though both of them are equal, but one is active and one is passive.

01:12So because the man is the active partner, and the woman is the passive partner,

01:16and science tells us today that a man is more sexual in nature as compared to a woman.

01:25So based on this, where it's a fard fast, talking about the fast of Ramadan,

01:31it's compulsory then, a spouse doesn't have to take the permission of the other.

01:36A wife doesn't have to ask the husband whether she's fasting or not because it's a fard.

01:39Neither the husband has to take the permission of the wife because it's fard.

01:45But in case of voluntary fast, which is not a fard,

01:48in voluntary fast but natural, the relationship of husband and wife is such

01:52that the wife, the man is the Qawwam, as I mentioned.

01:58The man is the Qawwam, and man is the leader of the family.

02:01Man is leader of the house.

02:03There cannot be two leaders.

02:04So when the man is the leader, when any voluntary work is supposed to be done,

02:08when any sunnah act is supposed to be done,

02:10but natural, the leader's permission is required.

02:13The woman is not called as the leader of the family.

02:16So because the man is the leader, he is the Qawwam,

02:19he is the one who protects the woman,

02:21and in a sexual relationship, he is the active partner,

02:25and he is more sexual than the woman.

02:27Islamically, follow voluntary fast,

02:29it's a requirement that the wife ask the husband.

02:32Indirectly telling that I am fasting,

02:36because when she is fasting and the husband is not fasting,

02:40then if the husband requires to have a sexual relationship,

02:45if the urge is there, if she takes permission,

02:48then of course he will have to control his urges,

02:51he will have to wait till the fast is over.

02:52But if she doesn't take his permission and she fasts,

02:56then the fast would be broken.

02:57So that is the reason,

02:59because she is a passive partner in a sexual relationship.

03:02And she is not the active partner,

03:04and she is not the Qawwam,

03:05it is more required that she take the permission only in voluntary fast.

03:10But if the man is the Qawwam,

03:12he is the leader of the family,

03:14and he is the active partner,

03:16he need not take permission,

03:19but yet,

03:20it is preferable,

03:22he informs the wife.

03:24It is not a requirement islamically.

03:26It is not a comprehensive one to take permission,

03:28because he is the Qawwam.

03:30But if he knows the sexual relationship,

03:34and how the cycle goes,

03:36and if he feels that while fasting,

03:39if he is fasting,

03:40and the wife is not fasting,

03:42because our beloved Prophet ﷺ said,

03:45that the best amongst the believer

03:47is the one who is the best to his family,

03:50especially the wife.

03:51And Allah says in the Quran,

03:52in Surah Baqra,

03:53chapter 2,

03:54verse number 87,

03:56that,

03:57that,

03:58that,

03:59that you are their garments,

04:01and they are your garments.

04:02That means,

04:03the man is the garment of the wives,

04:06and the wife is the garment of the men.

04:09So here,

04:10it's the relationship of hand and love.

04:12But a leader can be one,

04:14there cannot be two leaders.

04:15So both men and women are equal

04:16in the sight of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,

04:18but one is a leader.

04:20So in this case,

04:22while doing voluntary fast,

04:24but naturally she has to ask the leader.

04:27And similarly,

04:29a man,

04:29because he need not ask,

04:31but,

04:31if he is a good husband,

04:33and if he knows

04:34that the wife may require,

04:36I feel,

04:37it is preferable,

04:38he informs her.

04:40It's not a requirement Islamically,

04:42he'll not be,

04:42he'll be not doing anything haram

04:44if he keeps the faizda asking,

04:45because he's a leader.

04:46But,

04:47if he has to be a good husband,

04:48and if he realizes that,

04:50the wife may require him,

04:51you know,

04:52for a sexual relationship,

04:53it is courteous,

04:55and to be a good Muslim,

04:57it'd be better

04:58that he takes permission,

04:59or informs her,

05:01and mutually agree,

05:02which voluntary fast to keep,

05:05because,

05:06the voice of the Quran,

05:07that there are governments,

05:10and you are government,

05:11applies here,

05:12and even the hadith of the Prophet,

05:13the best of the Muslims,

05:15the those,

05:16who are the best,

05:18with the family,

05:19especially the wife.

05:20Hope the answer is the question.
