Un lungo gameplay per Metroid: Samus Returns all'E3 2017.
Trascrizione
00:00Hey, everybody. Welcome back to Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3.
00:03I'm Sam from the Treehouse, and for this segment, I'm joined by my colleagues Reggie and Teresa.
00:07So, Reggie, how are you feeling?
00:09Oh, I'm feeling great. I'm feeling great.
00:12The spotlight was, as I said, direct to the point.
00:17The reaction by the fans has been fantastic.
00:20I mean, certainly Super Mario Odyssey and what we showed from that.
00:24The little snippet of Metroid Prime 4 had the fans just tremendously excited.
00:30And, you know, it just continues our overall message of how we approach E3 and what it is that we're
00:36trying to do.
00:36For us, it's all about showcasing content, typically content that's near in.
00:42So, obviously, we showed a little bit of ARMS, a little bit of Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 coming later
00:47on this year.
00:49And then we also showed a couple little snippets of things that are coming a little bit further along.
00:53But so far, the reaction has been fantastic, and it just continues, right?
00:57And that's why we're here on Treehouse Live, a little bit more in-depth view of the games.
01:02And so far, so good.
01:04Right on. I know we're kind of in the calm before the storm right now.
01:07The floor still isn't open, so we can actually still see the carpet.
01:11It hasn't been packed with people yet.
01:13You've had a chance to do some exploring around the booth.
01:14What do you think of New Dog City come to life here at E3?
01:17You know, the booth is fantastic.
01:18The team that we have that works on the booth design and the look and the feel, both from an
01:25NOA perspective as well as with the headquarter team at NCL, every year they are outdoing themselves.
01:32Last year, it was the takeover with Breath of the Wild.
01:36This year, it's all about New Dog City and creating an environment for consumers to really go deep into the
01:42game.
01:43About half of the booth is all about Super Mario Odyssey.
01:48The other half, we're showcasing all of our other content, including third-party content.
01:52We're showing FIFA 18 out on the floor.
01:55So it's a great booth, and as you say, this is the calm before the storm.
02:00Just as I was coming in earlier, there are already thousands of people out there just waiting to come in.
02:05And typically, when the doors open, it's like the running of the bulls, and they all come crashing into our
02:10booth.
02:11So it's going to be fantastic.
02:13Nice.
02:13I remember last year, we were down on the ground floor, and you could actually feel the rumble in the
02:16ground when people started coming in.
02:18That's right.
02:18It's going to be fun.
02:19It's going to be exciting.
02:20But again, for us, the spotlight was a focus on Nintendo Switch games.
02:27What people don't understand is that as we construct our overall presence at E3, we're very thoughtful around what's the
02:35best way to show content.
02:37And so Nintendo 3DS is going to play a key role here on Treehouse Live.
02:42We've got content that we'll be showing today.
02:45We've got content that we'll be showing really throughout the three days that we're here.
02:49And it's important that the fans at home and our consumers understand that Nintendo 3DS is still a vibrant part
02:56of our business.
02:57Obviously, with Pokemon Ultra Sun, Pokemon Ultra Moon that was announced last week, that's going to be a fantastic holiday
03:05driver for us.
03:06We've got other great games coming.
03:09And what people don't realize is that Nintendo 3DS was the only platform that grew last year in 2016 versus
03:182015.
03:19The only one.
03:21That's pretty impressive.
03:22And we've sold 66 million globally of Nintendo 3DS.
03:28Again, more than any other platform in this generation.
03:31People don't know that.
03:32I've got my handy-dandy new 2DS XL and, obviously, continuing to showcase new hardware.
03:41For us, it's all about continuing to drive that momentum.
03:43It's nice that the family keeps growing.
03:45Now we've got this adorable little member to add to it as well.
03:47It is really pretty.
03:48It is really pretty.
03:50And it really showcases great.
03:52I'm playing Mitopia, right?
03:53One of the fun things about my job is I get to play the games early.
03:57I'm playing Mitopia.
03:58I've got Mii's of Mr. Ayanuma, Mr. Miyamoto, Mr. Koizumi is in there.
04:04And, of course, I had to have Bill as the Dark Lord, right?
04:09So I'm really enjoying it on my new 2DS XL, and it's fantastic.
04:14It's pretty sweet when you can play games, and you're like, it's work.
04:17I'm doing this because I have to do this.
04:19Well, you know, so a funny story is I'm playing Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
04:25and putting in a lot of hours in that.
04:27I've got my family saying, so, you know, you're doing this just for E3, right?
04:30You're doing this because you have to be able to show off
04:33and tell people you finished the game, blah, blah, blah.
04:35And it's like, no, I'm doing it because I enjoy it, and I want to do it.
04:38And so it's fantastic.
04:40I don't know.
04:41Using the work excuse might be a good way to get out of chores.
04:42You're like, sorry, honey, I have to do this.
04:45I have to keep playing this.
04:46It doesn't work that way.
04:48It doesn't work that way.
04:49It means I have to play early in the morning or late at night.
04:51So, but...
04:53And actually thinking of other things that we've got going on in the booth here
04:55and just over the course of E3,
04:57we probably should touch a little bit on the tournament activity we've been going on
04:59because right below us, there's a pretty boss stage that has been constructed.
05:03Well, absolutely.
05:05And again, the tournament activity is a key part of what we're doing here at E3.
05:09Three different tournaments, starting off with Splatoon 2 later on today.
05:14Then we've got Pokken Tournament DX.
05:16We've got ARMS.
05:18Hopefully, everyone saw how I humiliated Jeff Keighley playing ARMS on his show.
05:23But that game is going to really show well, I think, from the tournament scene standpoint.
05:28And for us, supporting the tournament community and really driving that part of our engagement with our fans is really
05:37important to us.
05:38So we're very excited to see how the three tournaments play here at E3.
05:42Yeah, I think it's been really fun watching people play ARMS
05:44and especially watching high-level competitive players get into the real meat on the bones of that game.
05:50And there's such a level of nuance to the strategy and the actual technical ability
05:53that I've watched a few folks where they're maybe pro Smash players or pro players for another series.
05:59So they really are used to getting into the nitty-gritty and into the weeds of the mechanics.
06:03And you'll just see their eyes light up as they start playing ARMS.
06:05It's, oh, I'm getting this.
06:07This has got some interesting depth and flexibility to it.
06:10And even within the office, watching who's been picking which characters are mains
06:14and how we're gradually sort of growing as players as we're duking it out against one another.
06:18But it's been a real fun ride.
06:19It's going to be exciting.
06:20I'm really excited to see how the players we have showcase that game,
06:25how they showcase Pokken Tournament as well.
06:27I saw a little bit of the pre-gaming going on, and that's going to be fantastic.
06:32So it's going to be very exciting for us.
06:34So what else are you thinking as far as some must-see titles that we've got going on here?
06:40Because we've got a lot to cover.
06:41Well, we've got a lot.
06:42I mean, you know, again, everything that we have on the floor here
06:47is showcasing and showing off fantastically well.
06:50I'm pleased to see the third-party support.
06:53We've got Rabbids on our show floor.
06:57Ubisoft obviously has that game in their area.
07:00That is really fun.
07:01I've been able to get my hands on that game.
07:03That is really fun to play.
07:05So it's going to be very exciting.
07:08We've got Fire Emblem Warriors here on our booth.
07:12That game is showcasing well.
07:13Really, everything we have shows so well,
07:16and I'm really thrilled to see what we're doing with third-party as well.
07:20And if we can jump to this, I think on the subject of cool titles,
07:24you've actually got something, a surprise for us maybe?
07:27I have a nice little surprise, right?
07:30And I said when I was with Keeley that literally within the first hour of Treehouse Live,
07:36we would be breaking news.
07:37And that is what Treehouse Live is going to be doing all through the next three days.
07:42So we have some news.
07:43We have a world premiere of a new game.
07:47This is a Nintendo 3DS game that will be launching later on this year.
07:52We're going to play for you the video for this new game,
07:57and then Teresa is going to demo it,
07:59and we've got the developers who are going to come talk about it as well.
08:02World premiere game announcement on Nintendo 3DS just for you.
08:17World premiere game announcement on Nintendo 3DS-PA
08:18It's not the PlayStation 3DS.
08:18No, not Nintendo 3DS call,
08:19No, not Nintendo 3DS are a game-like,
08:35no, not Nintendo 4DS has been a game-like,
08:36I think there is a game-like,
08:36but Nintendo 4DS è going to be a game,
08:36the Nintendo 4DS made new game on Nintendo 3DS is now coming up,
08:36so people don't need to have fun,
08:53Grazie a tutti.
09:27Grazie a tutti.
09:46Grazie a tutti.
09:49Grazie a tutti.
09:50Grazie a tutti.
09:52Grazie a tutti.
10:23Grazie a tutti.
10:25Grazie a tutti.
10:30Grazie a tutti.
10:32Grazie a tutti.
10:34Grazie a tutti.
10:39Grazie a tutti.
10:40Grazie a tutti.
10:42Grazie a tutti.
10:47Grazie a tutti.
10:52Grazie a tutti.
10:55Grazie a tutti.
10:56Grazie a tutti.
10:57Grazie a tutti.
11:00Grazie a tutti.
11:02Grazie a tutti.
11:04Grazie a tutti.
11:12Grazie a tutti.
11:13Grazie a tutti.
11:14Grazie a tutti.
11:14Grazie a tutti.
11:15Grazie a tutti.
11:19Grazie a tutti.
11:21Grazie a tutti.
11:24Grazie a tutti.
11:28Grazie a tutti.
11:29Grazie a tutti.
11:34Grazie a tutti.
11:38Grazie a tutti.
11:42Grazie a tutti.
11:44And that's something I want to actually show here on the showflir.
11:47So in the past Samus was able to aim at 45 degree angles, but now she has this whole range
11:53of motion,
11:53which really allows for precision here.
11:57It's really nice, because especially as you get further into the game,
12:01there are enemies all over the place.
12:02So having the freedom to shoot anywhere you like is incredible.
12:05Grazie a tutti.
12:06Grazie a tutti.
12:07Oh, grazie.
12:09La free aim è anche molto bella.
12:13Quando mi muovere,
12:15e ho avuto un'enemico a l'argete,
12:19l'audio cuello cambia,
12:22e anche l'algetto in red.
12:23Quindi, per favore di più precisione.
12:26È ancora più a te,
12:28ma il viso indicatore è molto utile.
12:32E Samus ha le basi abilità,
12:35e quindi,
12:37come si continuano per explorare
12:39e vedo nuovi ambienti,
12:41ho ho potuto avere nuove abilità
12:43per migliorare il mio suit.
12:45Questo è un'altra nuova abilità che Samus ha in questo game
12:48è un mellè counter.
12:49Se io immaginare attrapporti e immaginare
12:51a scopo,
12:52ho avuto un'esercizio critico.
12:55Ma in una circunstanza che non immaginare
12:57non mi fanno,
12:58ho avuto un tempo per scopo
13:00e farci
13:01non mi fanno un'esercizio
13:04per non mi fanno.
13:06Il mellè counter
13:07è una nuova abilità,
13:08e questo è davvero bello,
13:09perché questo è davvero difficile.
13:12È davvero difficile.
13:14E, come abbiamo Sakamoto-san qui
13:17e, quando stiamo parlando,
13:19potresti un'esercizio,
13:20potresti un'esercizio?
13:22C'è un'esercizio?
13:33C'è un'esercizio?
13:36C'è un'esercizio?
13:40C'è un'esercizio?
13:48S'è un'esercizio?
14:01C'è un'esercizio ma
14:04e il loro si è molto importante
14:06e quindi il loro sviluppo
14:08è molto importante
14:15e anche il loro
14:16ma anche il loro
14:16è molto difficile
14:19e anche anche
14:20il loro franche
14:22è molto piaciuto
14:43Grazie a tutti, José.
14:46Grazie a tutti.
14:46Grazie a tutti.
14:49Stiamo parlando con Samus' legenda di Morph Ball.
14:53Grazie.
14:54Questo è molto utile, come vedete.
15:30Oh, she did it, ow.
15:32Yeah, so I can't really go down there, and I want to,
15:36and I can't really interact with this right now,
15:37so I'm going to keep on moving forward and see.
15:42And that's the nature of this game,
15:44is you'll come across areas that you just can't survive in yet,
15:47you just can't get past,
15:48and you'll have to acquire new tools and abilities
15:50to be able to keep exploring and keep pushing forward.
15:54Exactly, so since I couldn't go through the door,
15:57I went up and around it.
15:58So I'm going to keep on moving forward,
16:00and this is also a brand new feature to the Metroid franchise.
16:07These are Aeon abilities.
16:09Aeon is a very mystical and powerful energy source,
16:12and they actually give abilities to Samus
16:15that are very different from the technical upgrades
16:17that she gets for her suit.
16:19So this one that I just gathered is called the Scampulse,
16:22and what it does is that...
16:25Oh, I should remind people
16:27that the Aeon abilities are actually not...
16:30They're limited.
16:31You can't just spam them whenever you want to.
16:34And so they'll have their own energy,
16:36and you'll have to gather power-ups for them,
16:40and also more energy in order to refill that tank.
16:45So just to showcase...
16:46Oh, and a Scampulse.
16:47Yeah, so to showcase the Scampulse,
16:50if you see the bottom screen,
16:51the map usually kind of explores once you start moving,
16:56but if I use the Scampulse,
16:58it'll actually open up this quadrant of map already for me,
17:01and also on the upper screen,
17:03it'll show these blocks that I can easily break.
17:05So now I know that, oh,
17:06there was an actual hidden path there, so...
17:08And normally, you would just have to shoot everywhere
17:11to try and find breakable blocks,
17:12and you can still do it that way if you want to,
17:14but if you have the Aeon to pull it off,
17:17the Scampulse is also very, very helpful.
17:20Yeah, keep in mind, though,
17:21that not everything can be easily broken with your laser,
17:24so that's kind of some ammo that you'd have to waste,
17:28and it's nice to actually have the Aeon ability
17:31to strategize about which one am I going to use?
17:34Am I going to use my ammo,
17:36or am I going to use the Aeon ability
17:38in order to keep on discovering and exploring?
17:41Absolutely, and, you know, throughout her long career,
17:44Samus has had a lot of unique abilities at her disposal,
17:47and as we've seen already, this game adds even more.
17:50So, Jose, perhaps you could tell us a little bit
17:52about the process you guys went through
17:54of adding new abilities like the melee counter
17:56or the Aeon abilities.
17:58Yes, well, from the beginning,
17:59Sakamoto-san wanted my Christine to challenge ourselves
18:02to bring new ideas to the series.
18:03So, we were given freedom to prototype
18:06a lot of different ideas and mechanics
18:08and see which ones would better fit
18:09within the Metroid universe.
18:11Once these ideas and mechanics were discovered,
18:14it was just a matter of iterating
18:16and policing the design.
18:18Oh, wonderful.
18:19They really add a lot to the experience,
18:21so good work.
18:22Yes, they do.
18:26So, here is an energy station,
18:27and I'm a little bit low,
18:29so I'm just going to take that.
18:31You always want to take advantage
18:32of those energy stations.
18:34Every little bit of health matters.
18:36Yeah, for sure.
18:38You'll notice that a beeping started.
18:40That's actually my Metroid detector,
18:42and it's telling me that there is a Metroid nearby.
18:45Again, for people that don't really know
18:47what Metroids are,
18:48they're an alien species that,
18:50they're pretty dangerous,
18:52and they suck up the life form
18:53of any alien species in order to survive.
18:56Yeah, you don't want to hug a Metroid, necessarily.
18:59Yeah, exactly.
19:00Another thing I want to showcase here
19:01is actually the mapping system
19:03that this game has.
19:04So, now that,
19:06in case I'm not able to go through a door
19:09because I don't have the ability to unlock it,
19:12which happens a lot,
19:13yes,
19:14I have these pins now
19:15that I can just drop it onto the map,
19:17and then that will kind of be my note for myself
19:19that, oh, I want to revisit this later
19:21once I grab an ability,
19:22and maybe I can try it later.
19:24And as you mentioned,
19:24and this game is so much about exploration
19:26and going back and trying to find
19:28every square inch of the map
19:30to find all of the many hidden secrets.
19:32So, this pin system is actually very, very useful.
19:35Yeah.
19:38Oh, I'm getting close,
19:39but I'm going to go investigate this area.
19:41Your Metroid senses are still tingling,
19:43so keep searching.
19:46He's getting closer
19:47because the beeping is getting
19:49a little bit more insistent.
19:55Oh, nice.
19:56Found a hidden missile tank.
19:57Yeah.
19:58But see, there was an example where
20:00I kind of knew already
20:01that this pass was there,
20:03but the scan pulse would have been very useful
20:06right there to kind of show those blocks.
20:08There's another safe station.
20:10So...
20:13See, there we go.
20:14Sand pulse told me that
20:15that block is breakable,
20:17but I can't shoot it.
20:18So, I'm going to try a missile instead.
20:19It's open.
20:21And that's a good point.
20:22If you ever run into an area
20:23you can't progress past,
20:24use all of your weapons and abilities.
20:27Oh, it's a little friend.
20:29Hi, friend.
20:30That was a Metroid,
20:31but we're actually not fighting him.
20:33We're actually fighting his first evolution.
20:36And this is known as the Alpha Metroid.
20:40He looks twice as friendly
20:41as a regular Metroid.
20:43So if I time it correctly,
20:44I can actually melee counter him,
20:48and it gives me an advantage
20:49to actually hit him for more damage.
20:52You'll also see that he'll drop these little sparks.
20:55If I actually hit those sparks,
20:57I'll get more ammo replenishment.
21:00So in case I end up using all of my missiles,
21:03I could always go around him
21:04and try to shoot those
21:07in order to get more missiles.
21:08Nice melee countering.
21:12And I'll say,
21:12I don't know how well
21:13the whole audience can hear this,
21:14but the sound effects in this game
21:16are incredible.
21:17The music,
21:18the atmospheric sounds
21:19are just really great.
21:20So Sakamoto-san,
21:22perhaps you could tell us a little bit
21:23about what went into the development
21:25of the soundtrack for this game.
21:42Well, we have two of the composers
21:48who worked on Super Metroid
21:49on the team for Samus Returns.
22:05They've worked on pretty much every Metroid title
22:08since that time doing music for us.
22:10And so I really don't have to say anything.
22:12They just go do what they do
22:14and what they do is create great music.
22:16Excellent.
22:17Well, lock them up.
22:18Don't ever let them go.
22:22Whoops.
22:23So you made quick work
22:24of that alpha Metroid.
22:25Good work.
22:26I did.
22:26So I'm actually going to go
22:27return to that gate
22:28that I couldn't get to before.
22:32Let's see what happens now.
22:38So I make my way there.
22:39So in the original Metroid 2,
22:41whenever you defeated
22:43a certain prerequisite number of Metroids,
22:46the ground would rumble
22:47and then you would know
22:48that you would be able
22:49to proceed to the next area.
22:50So now in this game,
22:52you have these gates
22:53and if you press on it
22:55and you enter the Metroid DNA
22:57that you had just gathered
22:58from the Metroid you just killed,
23:00it will enter into this gate,
23:02unlock,
23:03reduce this hazardous liquid
23:05that was killing me before,
23:06and now I'm able to get to the next area.
23:09It's really cool
23:10having this really visual cue
23:13of your progress in the game as well.
23:15Yeah.
23:16So now I'm going to go
23:17to a later area in the game.
23:22And we've gotten a glimpse
23:24of it a little bit,
23:25but the 3DS hardware
23:26really goes a long way
23:28in bringing this world to life.
23:29It helps communicate
23:30the isolation of Samus
23:32being stuck on this alien planet.
23:34so Sakamoto-san,
23:35could you speak a little
23:36to how you used the 3DS tech
23:39to bring this world to life
23:41and really reimagine it?
23:42Yeah.
Yeah. I mean,
24:25I do think that with this title, of course with Samus,
24:27the 3D, the glasses-free 3D
24:30effects are put to great use and really does
24:33help build the world that we're exploring. But
24:36I'd like to go ahead
24:36and ask Jose to talk a little bit
24:38about some of the more technical aspects.
24:40Yes. It was very clear to us from the beginning
24:43that if we wanted to convey to the player
24:46the greatness of the inner depths of the planet
24:48and the past glory of the social civilization,
24:51we had to provide a big sense of scale
24:54thanks to the depth given by the 3DS capabilities.
24:59So we wanted to reflect this from
25:02if we only the development process is scale
25:04through the first initial counterparts.
25:07Thank you so much.
25:10Oh, and you've gotten yourself in trouble, Teresa.
25:13I always do.
25:17I ran into his room and he didn't like me being here.
25:20Oh, you woke him up from a nap.
25:22He'll do that.
25:23But I'm stuck here until he gives me leave.
25:27And now is not the time to play with it necessarily,
25:30but I wanted to point out that you also got your spider ball upgrade.
25:33That's right.
25:34And I also got bombs here.
25:37So these are actually very handy for taking him out.
25:44So while you play with your new friend,
25:48this is obviously an enemy from the original game.
25:52And that brings to mind the fact that all of the enemies
25:54have actually been redesigned for this version.
25:56So Jose, perhaps you could tell us a little bit about
25:59what the process was for redesigning the enemies from the original game.
26:02Yes, we wanted to respect the visual design of the regular enemies
26:05as much as possible.
26:07But we had to adapt the attacks, movements, and behaviors
26:12so they could fit with our new gameplay
26:14and without making them lose much of their original feel in the process.
26:19And as for the Metroids, they were the stars of the show
26:21along with Samus in the original game.
26:23And this wanted also to be the same in our game.
26:27And they, well, they suffered a massive overhaul
26:31from the visuals of the original game
26:33and their gameplay mechanics.
26:35And also we wanted to clearly show the transition
26:38in the live form from one Metroid to another.
26:41And this is something that is very clearly reflected
26:43in the movements, behaviors, and attacks.
26:46Thank you. And good work, Tree.
26:49Oh, thank you.
26:50So I can actually take the Spider Ball.
26:52And the Spider Ball is actually an ability here
26:54that's very unique to Metroid 2.
26:59but I'm actually going to do a very hard technique
27:01that I'm not doing very good right now.
27:04I swear I practiced this.
27:06The bomb jump.
27:10Oh, no.
27:11All right, well, last try.
27:11Metroid fans have spent hours trying to get to the craziest places
27:15using bomb jump.
27:16Oh, no.
27:18But as you're trying to work your way around this map,
27:21that also brings me to the point that a lot of the maps
27:23have been redesigned for the new system.
27:25So, Jose, can you speak a little to the process
27:28of redesigning the maps as well?
27:29Yes, we wanted to respect as much as possible
27:31the original layout of the original game
27:32because it has such an instant structure
27:35within the Metroid series.
27:36And, well, we wanted to have a lot of new things
27:40because we want it to be felt also new.
27:43And we added lots of sections different from the original game
27:47because we wanted to accommodate all of our gameplay needs.
27:51And also we wanted the game to be more, the exploration,
27:54to be more dynamic and diverse than in the original game,
27:57introducing some classic abilities from other games in the series
28:00but that were not present in the original game.
28:03And also we added some new, of course, special abilities
28:06that are unique to this title.
28:08So the combination of both made us realize
28:10some very interesting situations regarding level design
28:12for players to actively figure out their way forward in new ways.
28:16Thank you.
28:18Actually, before I take this elevator, I want to show this.
28:21This is also a new feature to Metroid Samus Returns.
28:24And it's a teleport station.
28:26This actually helps a lot with the mobility of the game
28:28where instead of backtracking all the way through previous areas,
28:31you can actually use a teleport to quickly jump into a new area.
28:35And this actually really helps when you're trying to gather some items
28:38that you weren't able to in the past
28:40or explore new pathways that you weren't able to before.
28:43I'm not going to take it right now.
28:44I'm actually going to go back and take this elevator to a new area.
28:47But you're right. It's such a huge addition to the game,
28:50being able to more quickly get to the areas you've already been to
28:53and find all those juicy secrets you weren't able to get at before.
28:56Well, because gathering all these items, it actually rewards you in the end
29:00because it does get more difficult as you further get into the planet.
29:04And the baddies do get really hard.
29:07So you definitely want to get all those upgrades and the items,
29:11and it rewards you.
29:12But you can also choose not to if you want a challenge.
29:15So I've visited previous lava rooms before,
29:18so I know that this red door looks a little bit dangerous,
29:21but I'm going to go in anyway just to show...
29:23You're a rebel.
29:24Yeah, it hurts. Yeah, I don't want that.
29:26Okay.
29:27So I'm going to actually use the scan pulse
29:30because I see there's something up there,
29:32and I'm pretty sure there's a pathway,
29:34but just to make sure...
29:36While you have the Aeon energy, might as well.
29:37There we go.
29:38Excellent.
29:39So we're going to go up here.
29:40I love how if you had just shot up above you,
29:43it would have looked like there wasn't anything to break.
29:45Yeah.
29:45So it's actually good that you used the scan pulse right there.
29:47Yeah, I have gotten lost more than once.
29:52Here's another suit upgrade.
29:55Oh, I love this.
29:59This does feel really good.
30:00Really epic.
30:03I love how vibrant the colors are.
30:06It's just...
30:06This world is so Metroid, so beautifully.
30:10Right.
30:15And it's just...
30:15Again, it's really cool when the 3D feature is on
30:18because you get to see all the stuff that's happened
30:20in the background.
30:22But yeah.
30:23So I'm going to go in here.
30:26I know Samus has her classic suit.
30:28Yeah, her various suit.
30:29So I can't go here,
30:31so let's try going back to the way we came from.
30:37That was close.
30:38That was close.
30:38That was very close.
30:40I like to play it dangerously.
30:44And now you can survive the very, very hot.
30:47Yes.
30:47So we're going to explore this room now.
30:50And we can always go back and explore other lava rooms
30:52to see what we missed.
30:54I have to point out that this is all one planet,
30:56this is all SR388,
30:57but look how different the environments are.
30:59It's a big planet.
31:00Oh, yeah.
31:00There's a lot of different areas
31:01and a lot of variety.
31:03And there's so much variety, yeah.
31:03And every area is just so colorful
31:08and unique on its own.
31:10So here I'm going to show a new Aeon ability
31:12called Lightning Armor.
31:14And what it does,
31:15it gives this green glow to Samus,
31:17but also overcharges my melee
31:19and lets me go through enemies
31:21without taking much damage.
31:22But it does take away from my Aeon pool.
31:26and so I want to actually save it in case I need it later.
31:30Yeah, every time you get hit,
31:31it actually makes your Aeon gauge go down.
31:33So you can't just run foolishly through a group of enemies
31:38unless you want to feel a lot of pain.
31:40Yeah.
31:40So here's another door that I'm unfortunately
31:42not able to get in through.
31:44So I'm going to do another pin here.
31:46But I'm also going to show here,
31:48there's this information screen that will actually see,
31:52it will show different items that are shown in the map.
31:54And if you're not quite sure what that icon means,
31:57it will actually tell you here.
31:59And it will actually unlock, too,
32:01once you've discovered it
32:02and you know how to interact with it.
32:05So definitely keep an eye on these
32:07because these are actually really informative.
32:09It will help you remember what you already know.
32:10Yeah.
32:11And we've already seen a few new Chozo artifacts,
32:14but that brings me to the question.
32:16Sakamoto-san, can you tell us a little bit
32:18about the decision to integrate more Chozo artifacts into this version of the game?
33:47Allora, voglio farvi vedere.
33:49Allora, voglio farvi vedere.
33:51Sì.
33:52Sì.
33:53Sì.
33:53Sì.
33:56Sì, questa è la seconda evoluzione del metroid.
33:59Questa è il Gamma.
34:01Questa è stato potente fare una countermelea.
34:04Questa è arrivata con me.
34:06Ma ho anche usare l'Ice Beam.
34:07Questa è sembra molto forte per il nucleo.
34:10So I'm just going to keep on attacking him.
34:13But yeah, he's got a dynamic set of moves.
34:16He's swooping down on me.
34:17He's throwing electricity on me.
34:20But that's a good point.
34:22If you're ever fighting an enemy or a boss
34:23and your weapon of choice doesn't seem to be making a big dent,
34:27try one of your other weapons or abilities
34:30because they might be a little more successful.
34:35And since I'm a little bit low on health,
34:37I'm going to feel safer if I put on my lightning armor.
34:40So I'm just going to go here.
34:45You've made him mad.
34:47Yeah, he is not happy with me.
34:55I'm just going to throw this out there.
34:56Those spider legs are really creepy.
35:00Yeah, I'm not a fan of spiders.
35:02So yeah, this guy creeps me out.
35:03Oh, he's turned red though.
35:04So you're doing well.
35:05Yes, I should be almost there.
35:08And that's another kind of visual indicator
35:10to show you that you're getting closer
35:11to making mincemeat of this guy.
35:14Yeah, and there's all those audio cues too
35:16for when's the right time to...
35:19Oh boy.
35:20When's the right time to melee him.
35:22So it only happens when he goes down on the ground.
35:25But yes, I was able to successfully go to work.
35:29All right.
35:31Well, with that, I actually want to show
35:32another later area in the game
35:35because I think it would be really cool
35:36to show the fans.
35:37Excellent.
35:37Let's do it.
35:39So while you switch to your other save file,
35:41Sakamoto-san and Jose,
35:43we were hoping you could tell us a little bit
35:44about how you went about balancing this game
35:47because there's obviously a lot of abilities
35:49and it must have been difficult to balance
35:51making them feel useful to players
35:53without taking away from the challenge.
36:18Well, of course, you know, it feels great.
36:24It's exhilarating to use these really powerful
36:27and dynamic abilities.
36:29And, you know, players want to use them
36:30and we want them to use them, of course.
36:33But, you know, one of the things we have to be careful of is
36:48if we, you know, overuse them,
36:50if we make them too powerful,
36:51it reduces, you know,
36:52some of the tension that you feel in the game
36:54and it sort of has the counter-effect
36:56of actually reducing the excitement
36:59and sort of, again, that thrill
37:01that we want players to feel.
37:03So, again, it's a really delicate balance.
37:33Well, yeah, I think a good example of some of the difficulty in that
37:36of fine-tuning is what we just saw on screen is beam burst.
37:40And what's difficult, again, about finding that balance is you have to measure the effect of the weapon
37:46and you also have to take into consideration the amount of energy uses
37:50and the supply of energy that's available to you.
37:53and trying to come up with, again, a balance that works throughout the game and keeps all of those factors
37:59in mind, it can be quite challenging.
38:01I think, you know, we put quite a load on Mercury's scheme and having them do that, but I think
38:06they did a remarkably good job.
38:08Yes, I completely agree with Sakamoto-san's words. It was difficult to balance the new abilities,
38:13not only because they can be used alone, but only because they can be used in combination between them.
38:19And also, they can be combined with the classic abilities, too.
38:22So, at the end, it was pretty tough, but we, however, are very confident that we finally found the best
38:28possible balance for all projects to fully enjoy them.
38:31Yeah, I think you achieved a great balance, and trust me, it's still difficult.
38:37All right, so my Metroid Detector went off again, and this is the Gamma Husk, so I'm pretty sure I'm
38:45not going to be facing him.
38:47Maybe it's something cuddlier.
38:49Hi, little guy.
38:50Or maybe not.
38:51Yeah, maybe not.
38:53So, this is the next evolution. This is the Zeta, and he is pretty gnarly.
38:59I'm not a big fan of him.
39:03And as Sakamoto-san was saying that about the beam burst, I actually wanted to showcase this other Aeon ability,
39:09because it is so powerful. It's so cool, and it feels really powerful.
39:15And I missed my moment to the melee counter.
39:18He does so much damage, too.
39:20He does.
39:22But I'm going to use a combination of abilities here, from missile, to grapple, to beam burst.
39:29You really have to be on your game with this guy, because he switches up his patterns a lot.
39:33Oh, he does.
39:33He's hard to predict.
39:34And he...
39:35Yeah, he's hard to predict, and he totally aims for me, too.
39:39Like, he's got me down.
39:41Nice.
39:42That's just the beautiful melee counter, too.
39:44I love how it slows down time, and it has that really cinematic presentation.
39:47Yes, it feels so epic and action-y, and I absolutely love it.
39:51This is my least favorite move.
39:53This one gets me every time.
39:55Oh, God.
39:56Oh.
39:59And now you died on purpose, so that we could see...
40:01Yes, I did it.
40:01...the suit's down as high.
40:02She looks so elegant there.
40:04Beautiful, yes.
40:05So thank you.
40:06You're welcome.
40:07I aim to please.
40:09Yes.
40:10All right, I'm going to try this again.
40:11Yes, you can do this.
40:12We all believe in you.
40:15I'm going to skip the cutscene, because I can.
40:17I'm going to...
40:18Whoa.
40:18Get right into that.
40:19All right.
40:22Wow.
40:23Nice melee counter right off the top.
40:25Oh, he was nice enough to give it to me, so I'll take it.
40:28Yes.
40:34Oh, no.
40:39Get to the other side, so I got a good shot of his nucleus.
40:47You know, he's not invited to your birthday party anymore.
40:50No.
40:50He ruined it.
40:51I...
40:52I like green, but not in my face.
40:55No.
40:56Oh.
40:59And as we're showcasing here, the new abilities, your beamburst there, your lightning armor,
41:05they add to the experience, but as to the balance they were talking about earlier,
41:09they definitely don't make it easier.
41:11You have the ion gauge, and you can't spam these abilities at all.
41:15I mean, I think you're already out of them, so...
41:19Oh.
41:20Again.
41:21It's all right.
41:22Third time's the charm.
41:23He's pretty strong.
41:24Yeah.
41:24He's pretty awful.
41:25I'm hopeful that this third time I can get it.
41:27Yes.
41:29You have the power of Samus at your disposal.
41:31I have all our abilities.
41:35All right, let's try this game.
41:42Oh, of course.
41:43Oh.
41:43Oh, I missed him.
41:45He missed me at that time.
41:47That was lucky.
41:48Oh.
41:59He's going to feel that tomorrow.
42:02Hope so.
42:03So mean.
42:15That was your favorite.
42:16Oh, God.
42:17I absolutely hate the stability.
42:21That's all.
42:29He's more afraid of you than you are of him.
42:31Just remember that.
42:32Is that really the case?
42:33That's the truth.
42:35I don't think he cares much about me.
42:55Just when you think you have a handle on it, he switches it up.
42:58Oh, yeah.
42:58I know.
42:59I always need to be on guard with him because it's never the same pattern or consistent at all.
43:04You're getting really close, though.
43:06I think he can do this.
43:07Oh, I don't know.
43:08I got one bar left.
43:15No.
43:18No.
43:18Oh, so close.
43:20I'm so close.
43:22All right.
43:23I can do it.
43:23I can do this.
43:24I swear.
43:25We believe in you.
43:26This is the time.
43:28And he's not going to do that move.
43:30Maybe Sakamoto-san can give me some tips.
43:34Maybe Sakamoto-san can give me some tips.
43:39That's all I can't.
43:40No pressure having a greater inventory watching you.
43:43No.
44:03I love how dynamic the beam burst looks.
44:06It is.
44:07It feels so good.
44:09Oh, my God.
44:22Oh, and I ran out of Aeon Energy.
44:26Oh, that was my best one.
44:29Oh, no.
44:30Got to do the old-fashioned way now.
44:38Missiles it is.
44:42Oh, that was close.
44:48Come at me.
44:49Come on.
44:50Just stay down.
44:51Yes.
44:52Oh, finished with the melee counter.
44:53That's beautiful.
44:55Yes.
44:55Well worth the wait.
44:56Thank you.
44:57Good work.
45:00Well, that is all we have to show for game footage.
45:04But we do have some cool announcements to also show to the folks at home.
45:08So I'm really excited.
45:09Shall we?
45:10Oh, we shall.
45:12All right.
45:12So as you probably might have seen in the very beginning of the game, the surface area,
45:18amiibo functionality is active in this game.
45:21It does support the two Samus, the Zero Suit Samus and the regular Samus from the Super Smash Brothers line.
45:29But there's also two new amiibo that we're so excited to show you guys.
45:33So we actually have them right here.
45:35I'm going to ask you to hold.
45:36Actually, no.
45:37I'm going to give you the honors of holding him.
45:39Because he's so awesome.
45:40My little friend.
45:41So you get the Metroid.
45:44And this is the best part.
45:45He's actually squishy.
45:47He actually feels like a Metroid.
45:49It's so cool.
45:50And he's like breaking out of his little case and everything.
45:52And then you also have Samus again here.
45:56But she's in her classic Metroid 2 pose.
45:59And that is just so, so cool.
46:01Like the amount of detail that's around her.
46:03It's just, it's so amazing.
46:05She feels so cool.
46:08And these are going to be great additions to my collection.
46:11Maybe your collection.
46:12Oh, yeah.
46:12Definitely my collection.
46:13I'm a super big fan of Metroid.
46:16So we can't, unfortunately, tell you what the functionality is in this segment.
46:21But we will announce it at a later time.
46:24But we wanted to show you these because they're so, so cool.
46:27Yes.
46:28Yes.
46:30And before we go, I wanted to ask if Sakamoto-san and Jose have any,
46:35Yeah, final thoughts they'd like to tell our studio.最後に何か一言か何か発表したいこと
46:41,何かありますでしょうかね?どうしたんですか? Yes, I wanted to thank Sakamoto-san
46:45and Nintendo for relying on
46:47us to develop this new Metroid game. So thank you so much. Yeah.私たちも
46:52Mercury Steam-sanというすごくいいパートナーに巡り合えて2D
47:00Metroidの可能性をすごく広げることができて非常に

47:16us a lot.
47:16So thank you so much.そしてもう一つお知らせがあるんですよね。
47:20そしてもう一つお知らせがあるんですよね。
47:20I've got one other thing I'd like to talk about today.
47:22Oh, what?
47:35Yeah, so we've actually, we're going to launch and put on the market a special edition for Metroid Samus Returns.
47:43Oh, there it is.
47:44Oh, awesome.
47:45Oh, that's so pretty.
47:46So it also has on the cover the original pose from the Metroid 2 Return of Samus.
47:51So that, that's so cool.
47:53Yeah, and we've got a soundtrack there and reversible cover.
47:57Yeah, so the soundtrack is actually called Samus Archives.
48:02It's a music CD and it has about, I think, 25 tracks.
48:05Yeah, and it's just a collection of all the games that have come out so far for the Metroid series
48:11featuring our beloved heroine Samus, including this one.
48:14So I hope you guys really, I'm super excited for it, so I hope you guys are too.
48:20And it's a really cool treat.
48:22Yes, thank you so much for telling us about that, Sakamoto-san.
48:25Thank you.
48:25Thank you.
48:28All right.
48:29All right.
48:30So I think later today we're going to have a trailer.
48:34Oh, that's right.
48:35So one more treat for you all.
48:37So those of you that have a Nintendo 3DS at home, you're actually able to see the trailer that aired
48:42earlier today.
48:43And actually, because you have a Nintendo 3DS, if you're able to put on the 3D functionality, you'll be able
48:50to see that 3D depth and display.
48:52And you'll just be able to see how isolated and cool and all that depth that's in Metroid.
48:59So we're really excited to have that available for you today.
49:03And you can download it for free on the Nintendo eShop.
49:06Yes, and thank you so much for tuning in.
49:08We're so happy to be able to show you Metroid's Samus Returns.
