00:00USA Today linked the Browns to Kirk Cousins.
00:03I know you saw this.
00:05Was there just, that's the last team that needs a quarterback
00:08and that's the last quarterback standing?
00:09Was that the basic logic?
00:10Well, it says it's a sensible option for the Browns.
00:12It's kind of like the rate that they went down.
00:14What was intriguing is that it could be enough to convince
00:16new Browns coach Todd Munkin to make his wide-open quarterback competition
00:19a three-way battle.
00:21And so there are a couple other teams.
00:22Albert Breer had it highlighted.
00:24He thinks it's down to two teams for Kirk Cousins.
00:26He thinks the Steelers are basically the leader in this.
00:30And then, oh, what's the other team that he had for him now?
00:34I'm blanking on the other team for Kirk Cousins now.
00:36I'm not aware.
00:37It's okay.
00:37Either way, the point is it's not the Browns.
00:40That's a good excuse.
00:41I don't know how you did any of your work without the internet this weekend.
00:45Actually, we tethered phones to phones and hotspots and whatnot.
00:49We got real creative.
00:50What, you tethered phones to phones?
00:52Yeah, but no, so we turned on her mobile hotspot.
00:55Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
00:56Well, the problem is we couldn't put it on the TV.
00:59So I was trying to take her hotspot and then put my internet on the TV
01:04so we could all watch stuff together.
01:05That did not happen.
01:07And so then I put on Harry Potter DVD, at which point my twins told me
01:10we'd rather just not watch anything, which I thought was a D move.
01:15That is kind of a D move.
01:16Yeah, kind of a D.
01:16I love it, though.
01:17It was just a circular argument of, well, I don't want to watch this.
01:20Yeah, it's fair.
01:21Well, go to another room.
01:22I don't care.
01:23So the Raiders are the other team here.
01:24So the Raiders and the – this is Albert Breer here.
01:27That was a great look for someone we'll talk to tomorrow.
01:30But, yeah, Raiders and then the Steelers.
01:32Nobody knows what's going to happen with Aaron Rodgers, obviously.
01:34But if it's good enough for the Steelers, I don't know why it wouldn't be
01:37good enough for us.
01:38But it would open up a three-way battle.
01:39And so many people were turned off by the four-way quarterback battle
01:42from last year.
01:44Would you be that turned off if we had a three-way battle
01:47and it was Shador, Deshaun Watson, and then Kirk Cousins?
01:50So I think much like last year's four-way quarterback battle,
01:54I think this would – this would be a three-way quarterback battle
01:57in name only.
01:58I think if they were to sign Kirk Cousins, it would all but assure,
02:02you, me, and everybody, that Deshaun is the third guy in name only.
02:06Yeah.
02:07And I think it would be Kirk Cousins versus Shador.
02:09So on that standpoint, yeah, I could stomach that.
02:11But then are we going to get the Joe Flacco, you get four games,
02:14and then we're just going to remove your treatment?
02:15Or is it going to be if Kirk wins, you're giving him a real shot?
02:18Because I think the downside of Kirk Cousins is that, I mean,
02:21you know what he is.
02:22And also, you know where it's going.
02:24It's going absolutely nowhere.
02:26It's a one-year deal.
02:27At least with Shador, you get to find out if there's more upside there.
02:30But also then with Kirk Cousins, there's not the same four that exists.
02:34Yeah, I mean, one of the dangers about Kirk Cousins that we've talked about
02:37is he is a bridge to nowhere.
02:39Yeah.
02:39So because it's likely a one-year deal, there's still a part of me, though,
02:44that with Kirk, he seems pretty content to let this play out.
02:48And let it play out probably for him.
02:52And listen, maybe last year taught him nothing because I think last year
02:56he and the Falcons were waiting for someone to get hurt
02:59and then someone to go, you know what, Kirk,
03:01we're going to give you the starting job.
03:03And you know what, Falcons, we're going to give you a third-round pick.
03:07Now this year he only has to worry about himself
03:10because he's been released already.
03:12But I do think, I think it would not surprise me if Kirk waited until camp
03:16as opposed to like the Raiders thing.
03:19The Raiders thing just doesn't make sense to me.
03:21You would be counting the days until Fernando Mendoza was ready to take over for you.
03:26The Raiders can say, hey, he's going to sit for a year.
03:30I mean, teams usually say that until they don't.
03:32It would just turn into Jacoby Brissett and Drake May.
03:35That's all that would turn into.
03:36Now, I also would be surprised if Kirk said,
03:40oh, I don't know if I can beat out Shador Sanders.
03:43But I think he might just be waiting for a better job.
03:46I think if it's Kirk, Cousins, or Bust,
03:48it might end up being Bust for the Cleveland Braves.
03:50And so that's where I think Albert's right about the Steelers.
03:53But how long can you wait on the idea that Aaron Rodgers may or may not retire?
03:56I mean, Pittsburgh is a better job.
03:58They don't have any backup plan at all.
04:00Will Howard is apparently their backup plan right now.
04:02That's not a real backup plan.
04:03Yeah, no one's really hurt by that bluff.
04:05Yeah, right?
04:06So is Kirk Cousins just going to try to wait this thing out
04:10until the Steelers make a decision?
04:11But then if Aaron Rodgers does decide to come back,
04:14I mean, I can see a scenario where the Browns go down this road.
04:17I don't like it because I don't think Kirk Cousins does anything to you.
04:20But you're in the camp of, we've got to win games
04:22because the locker room needs it.
04:23This would help you win games.
04:24Yeah, and in this, okay.
04:26So the thing I would like about a Shador, Kirk Cousins,
04:29and Deshaun all the way over there, quarterback battle,
04:33is I think conceivably Shador could beat out Kirk Cousins.
04:36At this stage in his career, Kirk is a nice quarterback,
04:39but he is not, I mean, it's not, he's not so physically gifted
04:44at this point in his career.
04:45He's not so elite that if Shador is the better quarterback,
04:48you're going to say, well, but we got to start Kirk, right?
04:52At the same point, if Shador isn't ready or is never going to be ready,
04:57Kirk at least offers you a professional quarterback option.
05:01Do I think he's your next Jake DeLome?
05:04Yeah, I probably do.
05:05But I at least can understand a quarterback battle of Shador versus Kirk.
05:09And I think you can build a similar offense around those two quarterbacks
05:14than I think you could do Shador versus Deshaun,
05:17where it feels like you have to make that decision incredibly early
05:21to make sure those guys can line up beyond the right quarterback.
05:25I just think if we're looking for that buffer you're talking about,
05:27I feel like that's a good buffer in between.
05:29And it's one that I don't think the Browns will seriously consider.
05:33I really don't.
05:34But I find it fascinating that people that care about these things
05:37and study these things are.
05:38All right, Kirk Cousins versus a fourth-rounder on Carson Beck.
05:43Because that's what all this is now coming down to.
05:46So it's Kirk Cousins versus Carson Beck.
05:48Versus spending a fourth-rounder on Carson Beck.
05:50Oh, so now we've moved it to a fourth-rounder.
05:51Because earlier you were talking about the second-round pick,
05:53and then I think we're going between 39 and 70.
05:56I always kind of thought Carson Beck was a third- or fourth-rounder.
05:59Then why don't we do the 70th pick?
06:00Okay, 70th pick.
06:01For Carson Beck or Kirk Cousins for free?
06:06I think you go with – if it's me, you're not going to like this answer.
06:08I think you go with Carson Beck.
06:10I want to be put in a spot where Shador either takes off and is awesome,
06:14or then you suck.
06:15And when you suck, you just really, really go down in just an abysmal way.
06:20And you think Carson Beck is going to suck?
06:22You go down – well, I mean, I don't know if Carson Beck is going to suck,
06:24but he gives me a better odds of sucking than what I think Kirk Cousins would.
06:28So you would waste a third-rounder to suck in this instance?
06:32Well, I don't think – I don't know that we ever get to him,
06:34if we're being honest about it.
06:35But, yeah, you made me choose.
06:36I think Kirk Cousins wins too much in this equation,
06:38and I'm kind of scared of that.
06:40I would spend a third-rounder to put myself at peace
06:43that we could lose enough to get 2027 draft in order,
06:45and I think that'd be the best route that you'd go.
06:47So, yeah, I'm a little scared.
06:48I'm a little scared that Kirk Cousins would have you win too many games,
06:51while also understanding the idea of too many games is like six
06:55at the end of the year or seven.
06:57Your logic infuriates me, but I do see it.
06:592-1-6-4-7-4-0-9-2.
07:02USA Today links the Browns to Kirk Cousins
07:05and talks about the idea of a wide-open three-way battle.
07:10Do you believe that's how it would go if the Browns signed Kirk Cousins?
07:14Let's go with T in Cleveland, talking about Jonathan's garbage cans.
07:19Welcome to the show there, T.
07:21Jonathan, it was I who retrieved your garbage cans from the streets.
07:25It was so lonely, and they needed to be put where they were supposed to be,
07:30so I placed them accordingly at the side of your house.
07:33You're welcome.
07:34What Keller house do I have?
07:40Oh, he hung up.
07:41Oh.
07:41Oh, he hung up.
07:42He also spoke.
07:43Well, the one gotcha question we had, I guess.
07:45I don't know.
07:45He also spoke.
07:46Maybe he just didn't want to dox you like that.
07:48Well, superheroes tend to be very humble about them saving.
07:51If, like, Batman has taught me anything, or Superman, they're very.
07:54Was that a Batman lingo that he was using?
07:56They always take that thing in stride.
07:58It felt like a faux Shakespearean.
08:00They never sit around waiting for the glory.
08:03Or maybe it was, like, a pro wrestling heel in, like, 1970.
08:09I knew.
08:10I don't know who it is.
08:11I don't know who it is.
08:12But I know with certainty it's not T.
08:15Well, why?
08:15Pretty confident we know with certainty it was not T.
08:17Why do you think he would have gone up to your house and gone,
08:19Tiz I, the man that moved your.
08:21I'm going to go home today, and my garbage cans are now going to be back down the street.
08:25People are like, wait a second.
08:26He's going to call back tomorrow.
08:27Wait a second.
08:27We can't just Google people's houses.
08:29And they're just going to be down the street.
08:30I've been like, well, since you said Tiz I, now it's Tiz I that did this.
08:35Let's go with Eric in North Royalton.
08:37Eric, welcome to the show.
08:39Hey, guys.
08:40I don't remember which one you just said it, but talking about the third, fourth-round pick on Carson Beck
08:48and getting set up better for 27.
08:51So in that scenario, are we just tanking months before the season starts, and that's just the plan?
08:57Basically, the plan there is, yeah, either Shador is awesome, and you take off, and then you don't have to
09:01spend any more capital on quarterbacks,
09:03or you stink, and then you're in line for 20-27 in that draft.
09:08Which, by the way, I think is the route that they're leaning towards right now.
09:12We call it a transition year.
09:14Albert Breer calls it a transition year when he joins us Tuesdays at 520.
09:19Well, I mean, if it's either Shador takes off or, oh, so you're saying that Shador would either take off
09:27or sit on the bench and the team stinks?
09:30No, either he would take off and be awesome, or he gets out on the field, doesn't look good, we
09:35lose a lot of games,
09:35and then instead of going to, like, Kirk Cousins or someone like that as the second quarterback,
09:40you would eventually, you'd just go to Carson Beck instead of Deshaun Watson or anyone,
09:43and then he continues to stink because that's what he would do.
09:46Okay.
09:47Okay, well, okay, that makes more sense now that we don't have the option to, like, you're saying you wouldn't
09:54want the option
09:54to salvage a season to get better draft stock.
09:58I wouldn't salvage a season, yeah, I want better draft stock.
10:01Nick disagrees with that, though, I'm sure.
10:02Yeah, Nick would like to win, and Nick is sick of this wishful thinking of, well, maybe next year we'll
10:07get a quarterback that may or may not exist.
10:09And they got me for one more year.
10:10They got me for one more year, and then I lose my patience.
10:12That's what you always say.
10:13But for right now, they got me for one more year.
10:16Eric, we got a boogie.
10:18I'm only 23.
10:19I don't have many.
10:20I haven't had many one more years.
10:21Yeah, you have the most years left.
10:23Eric, no, you don't.
10:24You have all sorts of years left.
10:26Demand winning.
10:26You can wait out regimes if you're 23.
10:30I will tell you, if you spent three years building a team, and then two of the years leading up
10:36to the big draft where you're going to get your quarterback,
10:38you wasted on quarterbacks who never did anything with you, you've got to tell you, I hate that plan.
10:43Just off the rip, hate that plan.
10:47We all hate the plan where they've sucked and not been able to get a quarterback in the previous two
10:50years.
10:51No one's arguing that.
10:52Yeah, but I hate it more if you take...
10:53I can only operate from where we are right now.
10:54And from where we are right now is a different story than, like, let's go back and talk about two
10:58years later.
10:59But at the 70th pick, you should be getting a day one starter or somebody who can develop into a
11:03starter in time.
11:05If it turns into a quarterback that gets one year to try and prove something and then doesn't...
11:10You make it sound like I'm co-signing the Carson Beck deal.
11:12It sounds like you're co-signing the Carson Beck.
11:14The exercise was Kirk Cousins or Carson Beck.
11:16I'm not co-signing any of it, but you made me choose.
11:19It sounds like you're co-signing.
11:20You make it sound like you're meant to beplatform.
11:20You make it sound like you're co-signing.
