00:00www.sasasin's creed
00:30It's the philosophy that's flowing through all of the creation of the game
00:33and that extends to being able to choose your character
00:36It extends to Navel and how you're going to customize your ship
00:41how you're going to play with your ship, who you're going to recruit for your ship
00:44and then you can make a choice about the way you're going to approach quests
00:50It had to be everywhere or nowhere at all in terms of how we were looking at making things
00:55Yes, the narrative will lead to different conclusions
00:59but if you go off the beaten path, you will be surprised
01:02and you will have to make choices, sometimes dire, sometimes not
01:05so yes, we want to give that autonomy to the player
01:09You can choose if you're going to help the Athenians dominate the Greek world or the Spartans
01:14and you can change your choice in that playthrough as well
01:18We wanted to approach the combat in a way that gave the player more options, more customization
01:23more ability to have choice in the way that they approach every combat situation
01:27So that meant that we wanted to give them these awesome abilities
01:30these brand new, 30 plus, amazing abilities that can all be upgraded
01:34If I want to shoot people with bow and arrows and specialize in that, you can do it
01:39If you feel that it's more like melee fighting, you can do it as well
01:42and if you feel that it looks a little bit more stealth that I would like to do
01:45and you know, get the drop on them, that's all available for you as well, so...
01:50Very poetic for someone covered in blood, I like it!
01:54The romancing, we have a handful of characters that we can romance
01:57they don't necessarily intertwine with the bigger picture
02:00so they have much more regional content stories or, you know, a little bit more for fun
02:04When we set out to make the story in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, we knew that we were going to have
02:10multiple endings
02:10Now, for us, it meant making a series of choices through a series of quests that would impact the ending
02:19and not just be multiple endings based on one decision you make at the end
02:24which sometimes other games fall prey to
02:26Just because you're making choices doesn't mean that you're going to be cut off from half the game for making
02:32these choices
02:32You're simply going to have your own unique experience
02:37Something that I really like about our game is the variation of tones
02:42I never thought Poseidon's anger would be too much for the mighty Cassandra's stomach!
02:49You know, you can be a little bit more of a traditional compassionate hero
02:52but you can also call people on their bullshit in the game
02:55Somebody's coming to you with a much more down-to-earth, easy, you know, quest
02:59Like, somebody stole my vase or something
03:02So your character can say, dude, who do I look like?
03:05Like, somebody's going to get, you know, vases, you know?
03:07I'm destroying armies, you know?
03:09Well, when the player feels that he can say that
03:11we try to put that in the word of the character as a choice as well
03:14So, dude, what the fuck do I look like?
03:16You know, like, so that you can get that a little bit more in the game
03:19You can't do it every time, but, you know, like, how do I feel about saying something here?
03:24We try to mimic that and then have the characters react
03:28Cassandra, what do you think we should do?
03:31Player choice is a motivator
03:33It connects you with what you're doing
03:35The game is talking to me and I need to respond to that
03:38So, the player choices are felt in dialogues
03:40but they're also felt in the world
03:42So, in the play style that I'm going to choose in the game
03:45the mix and matching of the abilities
03:47who I want to interact with
03:49Sparta, Athens, you know, what do I want to do as a player
03:53You decide and it's your choice to do it
