00:00Two quarterbacks that are there going to compete for a job this offseason here is Michael Penix, their former first
00:06-round pick, and also Tua Tagovaiola, the failure in Miami.
00:11That's what people are calling it, especially when you're leaving there and you're being paid $54 million by Stephen Ross
00:17to go, say, and play somewhere else.
00:20Well, let's start here with this.
00:22So Michael Penix, ever since he came out of the University of Washington, I thought he was pretty decent when
00:27he was at Indiana where he first started his career.
00:30I haven't seen anything yet.
00:31And listen, folks, anytime you hear the word potential, do you know what potential means?
00:36That means you haven't done it.
00:38That's one of the most overused words in all of sports broadcasting is potential.
00:44Potential means the unknown.
00:46And so Michael Penix is still in that room of the unknown.
00:49Plus, he's always injured.
00:52Here's a guy that's got some talent.
00:54Here's a guy that has shown he has great athleticism.
00:57Obviously, in today's NFL, everyone is looking for the dual-thread type quarterback like a Lamar Jackson.
01:04This guy is not Lamar Jackson.
01:06And still, in my opinion, I still think he's a stiff right now until he can show that he can
01:12be consistent and he can be consistent in his play.
01:15I haven't seen enough out of him.
01:17Maybe Kevin Stefanski can pull that out of him.
01:20I thought Kevin Stefanski, with the job that he did in Cleveland with all of those quarterbacks, when you're getting
01:26to the playoffs, he's the right guy.
01:28We will find out.
01:29Now, again, if you have a blue tent on your sidelines like the Atlanta Falcons do, you're going to need
01:37another blue tent because the other guy that's going to be competing is Tua Tagovaiola.
01:42Let's go through the whole Tua Tagovaiola saga here.
01:46Remember the tanking for Tua?
01:48So, in that time frame of tanking for Tua, by the way, they passed on Justin Herbert, who's now a
01:55star with the Los Angeles Chargers, and they passed on Tagovaiola.
01:59So, in that process, let's take a look at the history of what he did there in Miami and South
02:06Florida.
02:07Okay, so it costs you two head football coaches in Brian Flores and Mike McDaniels, and then it costs you
02:13a general manager in Chris Greer, and you win no playoff games.
02:17And you're paying the guy $54 million to go away.
02:20I mean, not sure what else to say here.
02:24Tua Tagovaiola's experiment in South Florida was a failure.
02:27They haven't found a quarterback since Chad Pennington when they won the division when Brady got hurt that one year.
02:34They've been looking for a quarterback ever since Dan Marino.
02:37Tua Tagovaiola was a bomb in Miami.
02:40Yes, he led the NFL in passing one season, but availability is also a part of the evaluation when you're
02:48talking about whether or not you have the right guy.
02:51These two guys are going to be battling for the starting position.
02:54Here's a PSA, a public service announcement, for people that represent Tagovaiola and for people that are looking at Tua
03:01to finally take that next step.
03:03Hey, dude, if you can't beat Michael Penix out, this bad puppy's over.
03:08I mean, it's over.
03:09And when you've got a guy that's a hit away from being a jar of Skittles, you're talking about a
03:15guy can you really build your football team around?
03:17This guy, his concussion case, his concussion history is something that you really have to look at if you're the
03:24Atlanta Falcons.
03:25Now, look, I get it.
03:26It's cheap.
03:27You signed a guy for $1.3 million.
03:30It's a no-brainer.
03:32You're signing him for the league minimum.
03:35I get it.
03:36There's no question about it.
03:38He has been a guy who's been up and down, and they gave him every single bit of talent around
03:45him to try to succeed.
03:47The coach was a good play caller.
03:49You had Jalen Waddell.
03:50You had Tyreek Hill.
03:52You had a good offensive line.
03:54Every single thing he needed to have there in South Florida to be a success was given to this guy,
04:00and he could not take advantage of it.
04:02One of the things that football team failed on was leadership.
04:06Is Tucker Viola a leader?
04:08We're going to find out here a lot about both players here.
04:11I mean, look, you got rid of and you moved off of Kirk Cousins.
04:15I get it.
04:15Kirk Cousins is 37 years of age, and there's no question that Kirk Cousins is on the back nine of
04:22his NFL career, which has been what I think has been a really good career.
04:25So you move off, and now you've got to figure out if Michael Penix is that guy that you drafted
04:31a couple years ago to see if he's going to be the face of your franchise.
04:34We have not seen it yet.
04:37Atlanta's got some good football players there, and they've got a really good roster, and I think Kevin Stefanski's a
04:42hell of a coach.
04:43Look, you work in place for Jimmy Haslam, the Cleveland Browns.
04:47The Cleveland Browns haven't been relevant since Bernie Kosar, and the job that he did there in Cleveland, I count
04:55it up.
04:55Ever since they got the franchise back in Cleveland, do you know how many winning seasons that they've had in
05:00like 28 years?
05:03Four, and two of them were Kevin Stefanski.
05:06So Kevin Stefanski can coach.
05:08He's a quarterback guru type guy, and I think that if any of these two guys have an opportunity of
05:14resurrecting their career, it is going to be these two players here.
