Education Minister Dr Michael Dowlath is assuring the public that despite the discovery of hundreds of rounds of blank ammunition at the Vessigny Secondary School, there was no immediate threat to the safety of the students.

00:00Mr. Speaker, I have been advised by school officials that immediately upon discovering
00:06the items, in accordance with established protocols, one, the TTPS was contacted and
00:13officers attended the school to secure and remove the items. Secondly, the matter was
00:20reported through the ministry's school supervision and safety channels. Thirdly, the ministry
00:26continues to work closely with the police as investigations proceed. Importantly to note,
00:32Mr. Speaker, the initial assessment indicated no immediate threat to the safety of students
00:39or staff and teaching and learning activities were not disrupted. The Ministry of Education
00:46will continue to monitor the situation and will take any further necessary steps to ensure
00:52that Vecini Secondary School remains a safe environment for students, teachers and staff.
