The Ministry of Education is maintaining that schools across Trinidad and Tobago remain safe, stable, and fully operational, even as the teachers' union says it is probing reports of low attendance at some institutions.

The Ministry insists teaching and learning continue nationwide, with strong student participation overall.

00:00The Ministry of Education said it remained committed to ensuring safe, secure and uninterrupted learning across Trinidad and Tobago.
00:08In a media release issued today, the ministry reassured parents and guardians that schools nationwide continue to operate in a safe and stable manner with teaching and learning activities taking place in all education districts.
00:22According to the ministry, attendance data showed steady student participation across the country with majority of enrolled students present for instruction.
00:32All 143 government and government-assisted early childhood care and education centers, it said, remained open.
00:41Several primary and secondary education districts also reported encouraging attendance levels.
00:46The ministry further advised that only 1% of primary and secondary schools experienced early dismissal.
00:55Meanwhile, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association, Crystal Lashay, said,
01:01the association was aware of concerns surrounding attendance and was investigating the matter.
01:07Information reaching tutor is that there has been some issue in terms of the low attendance of both students and teachers at our nation's schools.
01:16Note that tutor is investigating, note that tutor has no part to play in whatever would have transpired.
01:24We are and will always be a responsible association, but we are investigating.
01:29Meanwhile, the National Schools Dietary Service Limited continue to provide meals to students.
01:35As of January 27th, approximately 56,000 breakfasts were served while some 57,000 lunches were delivered.
