A recent study shows that at the point of death, your brain is still functioning and fighting.
Transcript
00:00Research suggests that death isn't the neat all-at-once event that doctors make it out to be.
00:04In a 2023 study, scientists were looking at comatose patients who had just been removed
00:09from ventilators. Within seconds of cardiac arrest, they showed increased activity in gamma
00:14brain waves. These are the same kinds of brain waves that are linked to memory and awareness.
00:20So why would this be happening? Experts think that the brain might be conducting some sort
00:26of last-ditch effort to try to survive. Does this mean that coma patients are more aware
00:31than we think they are?
