The United States has launched unfair trade practice investigations into 60 countries over alleged failures to curb forced labour in supply chains.

00:00The U.S. Trade Representative's Office has launched investigations into 60 countries
00:05over alleged failures to address false labour.
00:09Conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974,
00:14the investigations assess whether foreign governments take sufficient steps
00:18to prevent imports of goods produced using false labour.
00:23The economies under investigation include major U.S. partners,
00:27such as Australia, Canada, the European Union, Britain, Israel, India, Qatar and Saudi Arabia,
00:36as well as China, Russia and Taiwan.
00:38In a separate move, the U.S. administration also opened investigations
00:42into excess industrial capacity involving 16 major trading partners, including China.
00:49Excess industrial capacity refers to situations where production exceeds demand.
00:54The surplus goods may then be exported to other markets,
00:57often at lower prices.
01:00U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer said the investigations
01:03and any possible remedies are expected to conclude
01:07before the temporary 10% tariff expire in July.
