00:00It's Benzinga bringing Wall Street to Main Street.
00:02The Teamsters union said Monday it has sued UPS, according to Reuters.
00:06The union alleged that the company's new driver buyout program violates the national contract
00:11covering about 340,000 union-represented workers. The contract was agreed to in 2023
00:17and averted a strike. The lawsuit follows UPS's announcement in January that it would cut up to
00:2330,000 jobs and close 24 facilities as it reduces low-profit deliveries for Amazon.
00:28The Teamsters said UPS's updated buyout program is broader than the offer made last summer to more
00:34tenured drivers nearing retirement. The new driver choice program would provide a one-time
00:38lump sum payment in exchange for drivers legally agreeing to never work for UPS again.
00:44Teamsters cited at least six contract violations and said UPS failed to provide the requested
00:49information. UPS said it will address the claims through legal channels and that operations will
00:55not be affected. For all things money, visit Benzinga.com.
