00:00Let's begin with Elliot Wolfe. He met with the media yesterday after officially signing a bunch
00:06of free agents for the New England Patriots and Elliot Wolfe was asked about Christian Gonzalez
00:11getting him a new contract. Bit of a back and forth here so here was Elliot Wolfe talking
00:15about Christian Gonzalez. Elliot when you look at the secondary adding Kevin is such a huge get
00:19but then I guess the biggest question is Christian Gonzalez and his status. Where do you guys see
00:23that contract right now? I mean there's no question about Christian's status. You know he's
00:29he's one of our best football players. He's under contract so you know we'll there's no secret
00:35that we'd like to you know keep Christian long term so you know we'll continue to to work on those
00:40things. One of those things it's easy. Do you think you're in my mind to come together you two sides
00:44knowing the relationship between you guys? Yeah I don't I don't really want to talk about a
00:47negotiation. You know I don't think that would be fair to to Christian or his agent but you know
00:52again we we like Christian and we want him here. Yeah I mean just write the check like I don't
00:57I
00:58mean I there are some on this radio station who argue that you you don't want to be tied down
01:05that much money that long for for the guy and I could not disagree more like I mean the longer
01:12you wait the more expensive he gets. That's it. If you had done it before the McDuffie deal you
01:17don't have to match the McDuffie deal. The longer you wait to get a deal done the more expensive he
01:21becomes. Right and you you don't it's not about matching the McDuffie deal it's now like all right
01:26McDuffie set the market. You're saying it's north of a hundo. Yeah because I can't remember the exact
01:31number but I think Trent McDuffie got a hundred million guaranteed in the contract. I'll have to
01:38double check but it's gonna he's gonna want. So it's a four-year 124 million dollar deal that
01:43includes 100 million guaranteed. So there you go. So he's gonna be looking at four years 130
01:49give me 105 110 guaranteed. That's what Gonzalez. And you don't mind that I mean that's a big
01:55commitment when it comes to guaranteed money. Yeah. Over four years. Right. It's 30 uh well a little
02:01less than 30 whatever you said it's 105 so that's 26 million a year guaranteed or whatever. Yeah
02:09whatever you're gonna look at you're gonna look at the number so so McDuffie was you said shine four
02:14years 124 uh with 100 million guaranteed. So it was four years 25 million a year guaranteed. Right
02:20but you can also front load a lot of that guaranteed money so that it's easy to get out from
02:24the contract later in the year like his career. It's this is a slam dunk. You absolutely should do
02:30this. And technically what it ends up becoming for like maybe people who are listening and don't know
02:34when you see four years 120 and then you see 100 million guaranteed it's really the three years he
02:42should get. So it's three years of 100 million and do the math on what that would be annually a
02:48little
02:48bit over what 33 million per year. Yep. And you got to ask yourself the question is Christian Gonzalez
02:54worth you know 33 million over the next three years as a lockdown corner. And you say absolutely all day.
03:03I say yes he is. When you have a guy like that I think he is so you got to
03:07pay him. Okay. What's next shine?
03:09Well Greg we can hear one more cut from Elliot Wolfe here. Uh he was also asked about Stefan Diggs
03:13closing the door on Stefan Diggs. Here was uh that question and Elliot Wolfe's response.
03:18Will the door be closed on maybe revisiting Stefan? Uh I wouldn't say the door's closed. I mean again
03:25we're gonna look through look through every way we possibly can to to help improve the team.
03:31So Curtis you you thought that was interesting uh more so the facial expression than the actual quote.
03:37Well the quote was a little I I don't know the quote was a little longer he sort of hemmed
03:40and
03:40hot at the beginning of it if I'm not mistaken. But yeah I think it's strange the whole thing is
03:44the whole thing is strange. I don't understand how there hasn't been a single team tied to Steph
03:49Diggs. Especially at Shime said it's a weak wide receiver market which will all the be all the more
03:56reason you'd have interest in Steph Diggs. No no no I I think what weak in the fact that teams
04:01aren't
04:02thirsty for them is what I meant. Like I I just don't think teams are dying for these receivers.
04:08But wouldn't a weak market mean that the receivers aren't very good? Like if there's a bunch of good
04:13receivers it'd be a strong market. Yeah a weak market means yeah there's not a lot of good guys.
04:17So you're talking about his talent. Yeah yeah I I don't think he's like I don't think he's super
04:21desired by other teams. Yeah and I thought he would be which is kind of shocking to me but maybe
04:25the
04:25factor in maybe the other teams are more so looking at his age and maybe what what he wants. We
04:31don't know
04:31what his agent is telling teams behind closed doors. You know I mean we don't know. We don't
04:36know if his agent is saying he wants closer to the Wondell Robinson type of deal rather a Mike Evans
04:43deal. And they might be like oh he's 33 years old but the agent might be listening he had a
04:47thousand
04:47yards last year. You know he's making 21 million he wants to make you know 21 22 million and he
04:53wants
04:53you know 25 30 million in guaranteed money. Is there a chance that he I mean I know Elliott
05:00Wolf is saying there is the door is not closed but do you think they would take him back here
05:06at a
05:06discount or do you think that they're done with them because of the Super Bowl stuff. I think if he's
05:10still hanging around and they know that the the door is closed on AJ Brown I don't see why you
05:16wouldn't consider bringing him back in especially because by that point you know his number has come
05:20down. No they don't. But that's gonna be June like I think it's clear that you're not gonna know
05:24anything about AJ Brown until June gets here. Yeah. Yeah. They don't want him back. If he's still a
05:29free agent of course you have to look into it. They don't want him back. No they wouldn't. Because
05:33if they if they're putting the majority of their eggs in the AJ Brown basket which I'm still hopeful
05:42for but I'm not 100% sure that's what they're thinking because of the Romeo Dobbs signing they would
05:49have probably just initially said to him like hey we want you to restructure. We want to bring you back
05:56at less money and the money that we gave Romeo Dobbs will kind of like you know give it to
06:03you or some
06:04structure along that and we'll still go after AJ Brown. So it'll be AJ Brown and Steph Diggs. But once
06:11they said all right we're moving on from Steph Diggs it kind of seems like they were like well we're
06:16good
06:16we don't want to pay you what you probably feel like you want. I just think based on his production
06:24and whatever happened whether it was I mean a combination of the pending court case and the
06:32Super Bowl kerfuffle I think that Mike Rabel has probably determined that it's not worth it. They
06:39don't want to they don't want to deal with that and I and I'm okay with that. Yeah I agree.
06:44I think
06:45they like him and I think Rabel said hey listen we love you you know we think you're a great
06:50player
06:51and but it's just too much other stuff that's a headache and it's not worth it like it's not
06:58worth it for you know just kind of where you are in your career. I don't think he told him
07:03that but
07:03I think they're probably talking in the front office like that like you know it's not really worth it
07:08with all this other headache stuff. He was a great guy for us. We love him. He's a great leader
07:12in the
07:12locker room but just some of the other stuff. Do we want to really pay a guy 21, 17, 18
07:18million per
07:18year and we have to deal with some of this potential potential baggage? See I think it's more that
07:23Stefan Diggs misread the market. It's Stefan Diggs signed the deal with the Patriots. It was as Curtis
07:28pointed out basically like a one-year deal. It was good for the Patriots. They were going to let him
07:33go
07:33because he's not worth that money after the the first year. He was they had to overpay because they
07:38needed a legit receiver last year. They did. They don't need to overpay now because Drake is this
07:43good. So they cut him and he hits free agency similar to how Lucas Giolito opted out of his
07:49contract with the Boston Red Sox. Dumb move. It can't get it can't get the money he wants and that's
07:53exactly what Stefan Diggs is going to face. Lucas Giolito could be here right now for whatever the
07:59is it like 21 million or something? Yeah. 20 million dollars should not be listening to his
08:05agent on that. And I think Stefan Diggs misread the market. Yeah maybe you're right because I
08:11thought Steph Diggs when we talked about it I was like oh he'll definitely get 20 21 million from
08:15somebody and and maybe maybe you're right maybe the teams are like yeah we'll give them like
08:21you know what is 12 yeah 12 16 max like what Mike Evans yeah exactly
08:25exactly
