00:00Okay, so Team USA got a little bit of a bailout. I think that's probably fair to say, right? Italy
00:05beat Mexico the final 9-1. And so now Italy moves over to Pool B going 4-0. They were
00:14great.
00:14All right, Vinny P. Vinny P. Vinny P. Pascatino hit three home runs in the win yesterday. Aaron Nola did
00:20his best to shut down the other side. Five innings pitch. No one runs. One walk. Five strikeouts. So Italy
00:25gets Puerto Rico coming up on Saturday. I believe that's in the Houston side of the bracket. And then the
00:31semifinals and finals are in Miami. But first and foremost, let's talk some Vinny P. Vinny P. Vinny P. Pascatino
00:38from Team Italy hitting three home runs yesterday. What an incredible feat.
00:43Vinny P. Vinny P. Reggie Jackson hit three home runs in a World Series game and he becomes known as
00:47Mr. October.
00:48Mr. March. Some might call you Mr. March.
00:51You know.
00:52No, no. And this is the this is like the regular season of the tournament, too. So it's just a
00:59good night. That's it. This will be forgotten very soon. So.
01:03But it's, you know, anytime you can just say Reggie Jackson's name to me is cool.
01:12But it's it's it's special. I wasn't really thinking about it. Just, you know, honestly, I was really happy with
01:17the two to take I had that past.
01:20I had been chasing quite a bit to the point that, you know, I wanted to just cry.
01:26It's just like, hey, stop chasing balls, like just take balls.
01:29And I took that pitch and I think I was about as happy as I could be.
01:32So I was happy with that. And then obviously the result that followed was was cool.
01:36So it was a good night. But, you know, we got to flip the page and get to Saturday.
01:41And so the World Baseball Classic, which has obviously been tremendous, rolls on this weekend and then into next week,
01:47it will be Korea versus the Dominican Republic in Miami on Friday.
01:52That's where it will get started. We've got Saturday U.S. or Friday, USA taking on Canada.
01:58Also, that's in the Houston bracket. If the USA wins, they move on to the semis in Miami.
02:02Puerto Rico takes on Italy. They're heavily favored Saturday against Houston.
02:06And then the big showdown is Saturday night in Miami with Shohei Otani, who has arrived to Miami, a little
02:12depot park they're working at right now.
02:13As we speak, they will take on Venezuela, a very rare 9 p.m. start game, by the way, to
02:19accommodate everybody.
02:20It seems like watching in that game, but that's what you do.
02:23USA, by the way, big favorites coming up on Saturday.
02:27But I guess you never know, right? USA minus 880 on the money line.
02:30Canada plus 580 as well.
02:32All right. End of the line here for the owner of the New York Giants.
02:35Although it does seem like the team will be kept in the family.
02:38Steve Tisch, who is the co-owner of the Giants and his two siblings, are reportedly planning to give up
02:42control, stake of the team, and transfer ownership to his children.
02:46The news comes with a lot of different reports about his personal or individual relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
02:56Certainly, he has claimed that he had never visited Jeffrey Epstein or anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein, but this
03:02certainly is a signal for the end of Tisch at least owning the team.
03:05But remember, it's in the kids' names, and it will turn over to the kids, so still a lot of
03:10involvement there.
03:11Meanwhile, the NIL Go platform is the compliance system that has a delay run by the College Sports Commission that
03:18reviews names, images, and likeness.
03:20Since launching in June, the CSC has approved $165 million worth of deals.
03:26And as of right now, they're trying to figure out how to get this moving forward.
03:30But indeed, the NIL system is going through some major delays here, so the Wild Wild West does continue.
03:37All right, in college basketball, before we get to some of the results, the biggest news of the day yesterday
03:43is after 11 years, Bob Hurley is out as Arizona State's head coach.
03:4911-year tenure coming to an end and had a really good run, 185 and 167.
03:55They said that his contract will not be renewed.
03:58On the court yesterday, in the Big 12, not much of a matchup between Iowa State and Arizona State.
04:0691-42 as ISU not only wins, but they cover that 13.5 points very easily.
04:12Joshua Jefferson had 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
04:16Here's T.J. Olsberger in inevitably the final press conference for Hurley after the loss.
04:22Coach Otzelberger here along with Joshua Jefferson and Blake B. Kennan.
04:25Coach, if you could start us off with some general comments about the game.
04:29Yeah, I think our guys came out with a great level of energy and intensity from the start.
04:35We knew it was going to be important to try to speed them up and score off of our defense,
04:39and our guys did a great job there.
04:42We're always at our best when we're doing that.
04:44Same on the glass.
04:46Second chance points, I think we're 17-2 in another area.
04:49We're always at our best when we're doing that, and then loved how we shared the basketball.
04:53So, overall, great team win for us, and really proud of our guys.
05:00We just didn't come out great, obviously, to start.
05:02We weren't physical enough in the early stages of the game.
05:07They really swarmed us.
05:12We got the ball in some really tough areas on the floor against a really good defensive team,
05:17and you just can't afford to do that.
05:20We never really gave ourselves a chance.
05:25This matchup, obviously, is not a good one for us because we've been one of the best teams in the
05:29Big 12
05:30of taking care of the ball, minus, obviously, Saturday and then this game.
05:35The physicality of their team is different than I've ever seen, and they're really on a string on defense.
05:42They rotate for each other.
05:43They do a very good job at that end of the floor, and we had a hard time dealing with
05:47it.
05:47Also, in the ACC, a big resume builder for Louisville as they end up winning by a final of 62
05:53-58,
05:55and they end up taking the victory as it was a very big win for them.
05:59There's no question at this point that Louisville still needs some help, but they do end up winning,
06:03and they do not cover the spread.
06:05Ryan Conwell had 16 points.
06:08Here's Pat Kelsey after the victory.
06:09Yeah, we got a bunch of vets.
06:12We got one of the oldest, most mature teams in the country,
06:15and they've been through so many situations throughout the course of their career.
06:21They've logged so many minutes.
06:22They've played in big games.
06:24You know, an example is late in the game when it was kind of back-to-back timeouts called,
06:30and so we were in the first timeout.
06:32We're talking about strategy.
06:33We're talking about what we're doing, and then they went to go back on the floor,
06:36and they called another 30-second timeout.
06:39So I went to kind of, all right, come back over.
06:41I was going to talk to them, and Ryan and Javon, you know, too.
06:45I mean, we got a team full of leaders.
06:47Those guys were like, we got it, and they kind of got in their own little circle,
06:50and they talked through stuff, and I was like, great.
06:52When it's like that, it's player-led.
06:54You have something special.
06:58Also, LSU falls to Kentucky yesterday, so the Wildcats move on 87-82.
07:04All right, new teams in the NCAA tournament.
07:06We're going to get a lot of these this week.
07:07I can't wait, by the way, to Selection Sunday.
07:09We got Lehigh.
07:11Yeah, Lehigh's getting in the NCAA tournament.
07:12They punched their ticket, as well as McNeese and Idaho.
07:15So they joined Gonzaga, of course, who won the West Coast Conference yet again,
07:18Wright State, Siena, Hofstra, Long Island University, Tennessee State,
07:21Northern Iowa, High Point, Queens, North Dakota State, Troy, and Furman.
07:25I don't have that memorized.
07:26I'm looking at that on the screen, just being honest.
07:28All right, National Football League.
07:29It's quiet right now, but Kyler Murray could sign with the Vikings today.
07:33It looks like he's finally gotten his release and can head to greener pastures.
07:36Maybe he'll get a chance to start there.
07:38Bradley Chubb signed a mega deal.
07:40Three years, $43.5 million, as Chubb is now moving on to the build.
07:49Welcome back to Newswire here on Sports Grid.
07:51Some breaking news, by the way, from the PGA Tour,
07:53as the Players' Championship at TBC Sawgrass has already teed off this morning,
07:58but one player will not.
07:59One of the favorites to win it all, Colin Morikawa, has withdrawn from the players.
08:05He was 16-1 over on the FanDuel Sportsbook, and we talked about this yesterday here on the show,
08:09as maybe one of the favorites to win.
08:11A lot of folks thought he had a good shot.
08:13Morikawa out of the Players' Championship.
08:15Those of you who were betting on that, you have tickets or looking to even bet it,
08:19maybe in play, something along those lines, find somebody else,
08:23because Morikawa, I'm assuming, you'll get your money back.
08:26All right, NBA last night.
08:28Rockets fans probably want their money back from watching that game last night on TV.
08:31129-93. Wow, the Nuggets just absolutely blew the doors off Houston.
08:37The Nuggets win in cover at 6.5-point favorites.
08:40Jokic, another triple-double.
08:4313 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists.
08:48And Jamal Murray had 30 points.
08:49Quiet night for Kevin Durant.
08:50It happens in the NBA.
08:52So a win for Denver yesterday.
08:54Also, the Orlando Magic took care of business against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
08:57Magic went outright.
08:58They were 3.5-point dogs.
08:59Why? Maybe the best game of the season for Desmond Bain,
09:02who had 38 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists for Orlando.
09:06Paolo Bencaro had 25.
09:08On the other side, it was James Harden with 30 points as well.
09:13Speaking of big games last night in the NBA,
09:15how about Kawhi Leonard for the Los Angeles Clippers?
09:18I've said there's going to be a 300-point game in the NBA, right?
09:21Like, this is coming.
09:22Clippers, 153.
09:24Timberwolves, 128 yesterday.
09:26Clips were 1.5-point favorites.
09:27But Kawhi had 45 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
09:32Anthony Edwards had 36 points in the loss.
09:35Meanwhile, the Knicks, they got an easy one yesterday because they faced Utah.
09:39134-117 was the final there.
09:41Knicks' win in cover is 13.5-point road favorites.
09:44Jalen Brunson had 28 points.
09:46And Bryce Sensabaugh in the loss had 29.
09:49Meanwhile, the Pelicans beat the Raptors in New Orleans.
09:53They went outright.
09:54They were 2.5-point dogs because Toronto's had a nice season.
09:56New Orleans, not as much.
09:58Trey Murphy had 27.
09:59DeJounte Murray had 27.
10:00Emmanuel Quickly had 25 points in the game last night.
10:06Over to the World Baseball Classic.
10:07In case you missed it, Team Italy is moving on.
10:10They go 4-0.
10:12Espresso cupping their way all the way to the quarterfinals, which they will get started tomorrow night.
10:20Vinny Pascantino, who we'll hear from in a second, had nine runs, three home runs yesterday from Vinny Pascantino.
10:28Here he is on the three-home run effort that puts Team Italy into the quarters.
10:34Vinny Pascantino, Reggie Jackson hit three home runs in a World Series game, and he becomes known as Mr. October.
10:39Mr. March?
10:41Some might call you Mr. March.
10:42You know?
10:43No, no.
10:44And this is like the regular season of the tournament, too.
10:48So it's just a good night.
10:50That's it.
10:50This will be forgotten very soon.
10:52So, but it's, you know, anytime you can just say Reggie Jackson's name to me is cool.
11:03But it's special.
11:04I wasn't really thinking about it.
11:06Just, you know, honestly, I was really happy with the 2-2 take I had that past.
11:11I had been chasing quite a bit to the point that, you know, I wanted to just cry.
11:17It's just like, hey, stop chasing balls.
11:19Like, just take balls.
11:20And I took that pitch, and I think I was about as happy as I could be.
11:23So I was happy with that.
11:25And then, obviously, the result that followed was cool.
11:27So it was a good night.
11:29But, you know, we got to flip the page and get to Saturday.
11:32All right.
11:33Meanwhile, over to the National Football League.
11:35The story that just keeps going all week long has been the trade-non-trade between the Ravens and Las
11:41Vegas Raiders with Max Crosby.
11:44Crosby is headed back to Las Vegas, as many of you know, as the Ravens rescinded their deal and then
11:51moved on to sign Trey Hendrickson to a four-year contract worth $115 million.
11:57And, naturally, when a deal like this is done or not done, you're going to get talk from the general
12:02manager.
12:02So Eric DaCosta, the GM of the Ravens, met with the media yesterday and essentially said that he had some
12:10buyer's remorse on the deal.
12:12And that kind of just felt, I guess, iffy about the physical.
12:17And, basically, there is no deal between the Ravens and the Raiders.
12:23The Ravens and the Raiders.
