00:00Good evening. Less than 12 hours to go for the India Today conclave.
00:05Geeta and I are coming to you from the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.
00:10A very good evening. It is going to be one of the biggest events when it comes to 2026.
00:16India Today has set the bar, Maria, when it comes to Global Voices,
00:20bringing them to the platform that really matters.
00:24And this again is the platform that matters.
00:28Geeta, this is the 23rd edition.
00:30You have been part of India Today group for over a decade.
00:35Tell us the significance of the India Today conclave.
00:38Well, the fact that it takes place every year around March,
00:42we get all the big voices that matter at the time,
00:47whether it is national politics, geopolitics,
00:51or for that matter, environment, health, and the entertainment industry.
00:58You see the big voices that matter at that point in time here on the India Today platform.
01:03So you have perhaps given us a glimpse of what should we be expecting tomorrow.
01:08It's a packed list.
01:10Top global voices from within the country and outside.
01:14Biggest faces from the world of cricket to the world of entertainment.
01:18Of course, the policy heads.
01:19And the big surprise would be, Geeta, should we give the name?
01:24I don't know. You tell me.
01:26So the theme, let's talk about the theme first perhaps and then we'll give the name later.
01:30The theme is breakthroughs and breakdowns.
01:33Why is it important?
01:34Because we are living in turbulent times.
01:36And in these times, it's important to break through and break down complex ideas of geopolitics
01:43and of course about security.
01:45Well, absolutely.
01:46And at this juncture, when we say the biggest voices from India and abroad choose this platform,
01:55we mean it.
01:56The first time ever after assuming office here in New Delhi,
02:01he's coming to you, speaking to you, and taking the tough questions from us.
02:06We're talking about the U.S. ambassador to India, Sajjogor.
02:09Stay tuned to India Today all through when we live stream the conversations that take place over here.
02:17So who else is there?
02:18Here's that story.
02:25The world is at crossroads, witnessing historic innovations on one hand
02:30and deep fractures on the other.
02:37At a time when global friendships, politics, technology and economies are rapidly shifting,
02:44the India Today conclave returns with a powerful theme this year,
02:50breakthroughs and breakdowns.
02:55Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Ashwini Vaishna will kick off the conclave over two days
03:01with the India Today story of policy and tackling global power shifts.
03:10Amidst the West Asia war, hear every side from the envoys of Jordan and Lebanon.
03:18U.S. ambassador to India, Sajjogor, will be at the India Today conclave,
03:25touching upon the India-U.S. story
03:27and the shifting global order under Donald Trump.
03:35International voices will also bring diverse perspective.
03:39From entrepreneur and author May Musk
03:41to American political commentator Laura Loomer.
03:45Global thinker and travel writer Piku Ayer will reflect on culture,
03:51identity and a rapidly changing world.
03:55Business leaders like Anil Agrawal, Karan Adhani will decode India's growth story.
04:02Back home, it's an election year and look forward to big political debates
04:07on the upcoming Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Bengal elections.
04:13Fresh off the T20 World Cup victory, hear the man of the moment, Sanju Sampson, speak on his
04:20spectacular performance in the tournament.
04:23And when the spotlight shifts to entertainment, expect glamour and star power to take centre stage.
04:30With actor Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and more, all at the India Today conclave.
04:36So tune in on the March 13th and 14th for a debate and dialogue
04:41that puts the spotlight on powerful ideas that drive the next era of global transformation.
04:53It's day 12 of the war against Iran and it has already spread in the entire West Asia.
05:00Just few hours ago, Geeta, Donald Trump issued an important statement,
05:05although he has been doing multiple flip-flops.
05:07How should this statement be seen where he says that he has hit Iran hard
05:13and that there is nothing left in Iran to be hit anymore?
05:16Well, Maria, there is a lot of analysis that is being done on what next.
05:23The Strait of Hormuz is the story over here and it's not just oil, it's also gas.
05:28We are feeling the pinch, Europe is feeling the pinch, the world is feeling the pain of the oil squeeze.
05:35And that's the reason why we are looking at a scenario where we do not know how the exit is
05:41going to happen,
05:41but in all probability when you say or when the President says that he has hit Iran the hardest
05:47and there is nothing left to hit, it just means that there could be an exit strategy over here.
05:54So if the President is looking at the exit strategy, who will play the role of the peacemaker?
05:59And particularly, what is the role of the European nations?
06:03Well, that's what we are going to talk about at the India Today conclave.
06:07We have a massive and a fantastic line-up.
06:11We are going in to where the conclave is going to take place
06:15and we are just entering the foyer and entering the large space here at the Taj where the conclave is
06:21taking place.
06:22But then again, the line-up, Maria, we have West Asian envoys, we have the envoys from Europe,
06:30all of them coming together over here to talk about the impact of this war
06:37and of course, the big line-up, Israel, Iran and a very special session that Maria will be doing.
06:44Maria?
06:45It's a very special one because I want to understand the significance of martyrdom
06:50which is often being spoken in the context of Ayatollah Khamenei
06:53and is being seen that perhaps Mushtaba Khamenei, who has taken charge as the next supreme leader,
06:59what does he have to say?
07:00We'll tell about that in just a bit, but take a look at this story.
07:10West Asia is once again engulfed in conflict as tensions escalate
07:15and the war shows no signs of abating.
07:18And with the turmoil, Iran has spelled out three conditions to bring the fighting to an end.
07:25Iranian President Masood Pazishkia says hostilities can only cease if Tehran's rights are formally recognized.
07:33Preparations are paid for damages caused during the war
07:36and international guarantees are provided to prevent any future acts of aggression against the nation.
07:42And we've won.
07:44Let me tell you, we've won.
07:45You know, you never like to say too early you won.
07:48We won.
07:48We won the best.
07:49In the first hour, it was over.
07:51On the other side, U.S. President Donald Trump asserts
07:54that the U.S. has hit everything that had to be hit in Iran.
07:59Our military has virtually destroyed Iran.
08:04Tough country.
08:07Their air force is gone.
08:10Totally gone.
08:12That took the better part of about three hours.
08:16They no longer have radar.
08:19They don't have anti-aircraft equipment.
08:22They don't have anything.
08:24Their missiles are down 90 percent.
08:26Their drones are down 85 percent.
08:29We're blowing up the factories where they're made, left and right.
08:34Trump's remarks are aimed at projecting that American military objectives have largely been achieved.
08:40But he stops short of declaring an end to hostilities,
08:44signaling that further action could follow if Iran continues provocative moves,
08:48particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.
08:50Trump has also reinforced his hardline stance,
08:55labeling Iran an evil regime
08:57and insisting that the country must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
09:01He has also accused Tehran of trying to destabilize the wider Middle East.
09:07The standoff continues to raise global stakes
09:10as both sides navigate a dangerous mix of military action,
09:14economic leverage and strategic signaling.
09:17What's next is the question on everyone's mind.
09:21Bureau of Report, India Today.
09:25There was a lot of speculation around the health of Mojtaba Khamenei,
09:29who is now the supreme leader.
09:31Just a few hours ago, there was a statement that was issued by him
09:34where he spoke about the direction in which Iran sees this war.
09:39That's why his representative, Dr. Elahi,
09:43is going to be at the India Today conclave tomorrow.
09:46Well, that's right.
09:47And he's not just going to talk about Iran's geopolitical strategy,
09:50which has been massive because, Maria,
09:53everybody thought this is going to be a short, in and out kind of a war.
09:56That's not the case.
09:58It's long drawn.
09:59Iran has held its ground, has been quite defiant.
10:02But what does martyrdom mean?
10:05How is religion so intertwined in the society of Iran?
10:09For all that and more, join Mariah Shakeel on the session that she'd be doing
10:15with the supreme leader's representative here in India, Dr. Elahi.
10:35Iran's supreme leader, Mujtaba Khamenei, has finally spoken.
10:39And the world should brace itself.
10:46The 56-year-old hardline cleric took over from his father,
10:50Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on first day of war.
10:59Now, he has broken his silence, and it's nothing short of a declaration of war.
11:06Mujtaba has vowed to avenge the 168 children killed in American strikes
11:11on an elementary school in Minab.
11:13Not a diplomatic signal, not a negotiating position.
11:18A blood oath.
11:35He has also made clear the Strait of Hormuz stays shut.
11:41Defying desperate cause from Trump and rattled global markets
11:45to reopen the world's most critical oil corridor.
12:10The global energy market is effectively being held hostage.
12:16Mujtaba has long operated in the shadows, pulling strings, crushing dissent, engineering elections.
12:23But now, he holds absolute power.
12:27Trump had dismissed him as a lightweight.
12:30Israel has vowed to target him.
12:32But Mujtaba is undeterred.
12:35This war isn't winding down.
12:37It just found its new face.
12:40Biora Report, India Today.
12:45Energy crisis is going to be one of the biggest conversations here at India Today Global.
12:49And we tell you this is because, even as we speak, the Strait of Hormuz is under threat.
12:55There are oil tankers, Maria, being attacked.
12:57A U.S.-flagged oil tanker, one from Greece, infrastructure from Oman, Bahrain, all attacked.
13:02And that is why the conversation on energy is important.
13:07You tell us why.
13:08You know, what we have been seeing increasingly, and when you speak to the economists,
13:12they have been saying that it's not going to be the turbulent, the market will not be impacted by turbulence
13:18alone.
13:20It will be about the geopolitical tension.
13:22And that's why the role of energy becomes important.
13:25It will not just be about crude oil.
13:27It's about gas as well.
13:29And that's where our next panelist, perhaps one of the showstoppers of this event, becomes important.
13:35We have Elon Musk's mother, May Musk.
13:37And we tell you why it's important is because, today, any energy crisis will lead to ensuring those who have
13:47energy, Maria, will control digital and AI.
13:51Do you know how much energy AI requires?
13:54That's where the story is.
13:56That's where the advantage is.
13:57And that's where May Musk and that conversation will come in and becomes very important.
14:02May Musk, dietitian, model, and somebody who can be seen as longevity expert.
14:08She has lots to say about her son, Elon Musk, as well.
14:12Please watch that conversation tomorrow.
14:14But first, let's watch the story about the disruption in West Asia, which has to do in and around the
14:21Strait of Hormuz.
14:27The seas of West Asia on fire.
14:29The wrath of Iran, pulverized by US and Israel, has put the entire maritime zone in flames.
14:36And now vessels are facing the brunt, leaving the world's energy supply paralyzed.
14:42Two oil tankers, one owned by US and another owned by Greece, were blown up off Iraq's coast overnight, escalating
14:49tensions in the region.
14:52The US-owned vessel, Safe Sea Vishnu, was attacked by an Iranian suicide boat near the Khour al-Zubair port
14:59within Iraq's territorial waters.
15:01The strike left the tanker, which was reportedly carrying four lakh barrels of Iraqi oil in flames and claimed the
15:08life of an international.
15:09A Thai flag cargo vessel, Mayuri Nari, bound for Gujarat's Kandala port, also came under attack.
15:16Image shows a black cloud rising from the vessel after it was struck.
15:20The crew somehow managed to reach safely.
15:26India condemned the targeting of commercial vessel bound for its shore and warned that such attacks were becoming increasingly dangerous.
15:34Fuel tanks and Bahrain's, Musharak also came under Iran's attack, which caused a massive blast and blew up a tanker,
15:41sending thick smoke into the air.
15:44Oman Salala port, oil storage facilities have also been hit by Iran.
15:49Dramatic images showed, an Iranian drone on a free fall, striking the port.
15:54In no time, the port was in flames and covered with black smoke.
16:02The once placid waters of West Asia becoming the biggest flashpoint in the ongoing war.
16:07Bureau Report, India Today.
16:12It seems that India's diplomacy may have yielded results, but is that really the case?
16:19Because there were reports suggesting that Indian oil tankers were allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
16:25That happened after Dr. S. Jai Shankar had a chat with his counterpart in Iran, Minister Araki.
16:33Geeta, what is the truth?
16:34Marit, there are denials that have come from the Iranian side saying that they're not allowing tankers to move past.
16:40Having said that, we know that Iran and India have historical ties.
16:44We do know that they're absolutely engaged now when it comes to New Delhi and Tehran.
16:49There have been three calls that the MEA spoke of and that have been tweeted by both sides.
16:54So we'll have to wait and see how they traverse and navigate the space because Indian flagged vessels going through
17:04the Strait of Hormuz when America is not very happy with Iran is also a story.
17:09But for that, we'll have to have the person handling this telling us what's really happening.
17:16So perhaps some clarity will emerge when Union Commerce and Trade Minister Piyush Goyal speaks at the India Today conclave
17:23tomorrow,
17:24where he will give us some clarity, particularly with regards to what kind of lessons that have been learned with
17:29the disruption around the Strait of Hormuz.
17:49Strait of Hormuz.
17:53World's most dangerous shipping lane right now.
18:16In the middle of the escalating war, India may have secured a crucial diplomatic opening.
18:23A Liberia-flagged tanker, Suez Max Shenlong, carrying Saudi crude, has successfully reached Mumbai.
18:32After safely crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
18:39At a time when tankers are being attacked in the Gulf, India's diplomacy appears to have paid off.
18:44Iran has reportedly allowed Indian linked vessels safe passage through Hormuz.
18:50This crude oil tanker left from Saudi Arabia Rastanora port on March 3rd carrying crude oil to be supplied to
19:00refineries in India.
19:01This oil tanker passed from the Strait of Hormuz near Iran on March 8th when it switched off its automatic
19:10identification system transponder and then switched it on again on March 9th and further continued its journey towards India.
19:19It reached India off Mumbai port on March 11th and right now is docked at the Mumbai port at Jawahar
19:28Dweep off Mumbai coast.
19:30The MEA has declined to comment but did confirm that External Affairs Minister Jai Shankar and his Iranian counterpart Abbas
19:40Araqchi have had three conversations in recent days.
19:45Iran had requested permission on 20th February for three ships in the region to dock at our ports.
19:53External Affairs Minister and Foreign Minister of Iran have had three conversations.
19:58The last one discussed issues pertaining to safety of shipping and India's energy security.
20:07The goal of the diplomatic outreach is clear.
20:10Keep the sea lanes open as government acknowledges that commercial shipping is halted.
20:18But Iran media reported that the regime has denied any safe passage.
20:26According to Indian government, 28 Indian flag vessels are currently operating in and around the Gulf.
20:39India has diversified its crude imports with around 70% now coming from outside the street.
20:47But LPG remains vulnerable.
20:50Nearly 90% of India's LPG imports pass through Hormuz.
20:56Meaning any blockade here could hit cooking gas supplies.
21:00And the danger is real.
21:03At least six tankers have already been targeted in the Gulf since the war began.
21:08Iran has warned that ships linked to the US, Europe and Israel could be attacked.
21:20As war spreads across West Asia, India is trying to ensure one thing above all.
21:26That its ships keep moving.
21:29And its energy lifeline through Hormuz stays open.
21:37As we give the final touches over here at the Taj preparing for the conclave that's going to take place
21:44tomorrow, Maria.
21:45There is another major issue and a story that we've been dealing with.
21:49And our reporters across the country are bringing us those reports.
21:52And that's that to do with the LPG crisis.
21:55That's a big one when it comes to households that could feel the pitch for now.
22:00It's commercial.
22:01But it is reaching home.
22:03And definitely everybody is going to look at what the government is doing.
22:07What are the alternatives?
22:09A lot of them are buying induction stoves so that they have at least some option, an alternative.
22:16This is panic.
22:17Yes, absolutely.
22:19So what we have seen is that the government made a statement.
22:22Today, Union Petroleum Minister, Hardy Puri, made an elaborate statement that all is well,
22:27that the government of India has everything in control.
22:29But the corporates are also watching and watching very, very closely.
22:33That's why we have the chairman of the Vedanta group, Anil Agarwal,
22:38and MD of Ports of Adani group, Karan Adani, joining us on the India Today conclave.
22:46Those conversations will be happening tomorrow.
22:48So stay tuned.
23:01As the LPG crisis deepens across India, shortages of LPG cylinders have triggered long queues outside
23:08gas agencies, with anxious residents waiting hours just to check on their cylinder bookings.
23:16What began as a problem for restaurants and small eateries is now hitting households,
23:23leaving kitchens struggling to stay operational.
23:27Many residents say their LPG cylinders have been delayed for days, forcing families to rethink
23:33how they cook their daily meals.
23:59Street vendors are worst hit.
24:02With commercial cylinders unavailable, food carts are now dependent on black market.
24:08in front of other companies the same day they have been delayed to a local industry,
24:12which is now the salesman's business for the residents.
24:16They have to pay their lives when they work for their families in the market.
24:21It's a very useful sale and the people think they've had a member of public
24:25and people don't have to pay their rent in the country.
24:25They will pay $3,000 to the price of theers.
24:27So I'll pay their rent if they're in the house.
24:31While the 78s are in the house, they'll pay for the rents.
24:40Many of these stalls that served six to seven items are now offering just two.
25:01As we look at these disruptions faced by residents across the country,
25:06the big question is, is this a temporary disruption or the beginning of a larger LPG supply crunch?
25:13With Aseem Bassi, Kamaljeet Sandhu, Shivani Sharma, Darmendra Kumar Sharma, Anuga Keshav and Sushant Mehra,
25:21Bureau Report, India Today.
25:32Amid growing disruption in LPG supply, households and businesses across the country are turning to alternative cooking options.
25:42Fears of LPG shortage are beginning to influence buying patterns.
25:47In Delhi NCR, retailers have reported a sharp surge in the sale of induction cooktops with many households purchasing them
25:56as a precautionary backup.
25:59This is a market in Delhi, in Karol Bagh, where we are seeing a surge in the buyers for induction
26:07cooktops.
26:08So these are the electric induction cooktops that are high in demand and in past two to three days,
26:13there has been a surge by 200 to 300 percent, not only on online commerce platforms, but also in the
26:21market.
26:23E-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart have reportedly seen sales jump by more than 300 percent,
26:30with several models already going out of stock.
26:35Appliance markets are also witnessing a steady flow of customers looking for induction cooktops.
26:42Customers say they are left with no option but to turn to induction cooking after facing delays in LPG deliveries.
26:51I am afraid of induction cooktops because gas is not getting the gas.
26:54I have been booked for gas, but I said that they will get a number of gas.
26:58I have seen the gas on the one month.
26:59I have also seen the Amazon, but there is also an online booking.
27:02There is also news on the internet, but it is also a 15 days later.
27:05I have been given the induction to induction.
27:07There is a gas-level.
27:09I am talking about the gas.
27:10I am talking about gas.
27:10I am talking about gas.
27:12I am talking about this option here.
27:17Then I am thinking about this option.
27:19Induction cooktops has risen sharply in recent days.
27:24And it's not just the capital.
27:26From north to south, the crisis has hit cities across India.
27:31In Chennai, several shops have reported that they have run out of induction cooktops.
27:38This full compartment that was stocked up with electrical induction stuff and cookware,
27:43it's completely sold out.
27:45In fact, there are about 60 satya outlets in all of Chennai.
27:49And the general manager told us that in all of the 60 outlets,
27:53induction stoves and cookware are completely sold out.
27:55So that's the kind of panic that has gripped Chennai and the people of Tamil Nadu.
28:02Whether out of precaution or fear,
28:04residents are scrambling to stay prepared during uncertain times.
28:08With Shivani Sharma and Anaga Keshe, Bureau Report, India Today.
28:16An unexpected war that is leading to massive chaos across the world.
28:21Not just when it comes to energy.
28:23It also has to do with geopolitics, relationships, partnerships.
28:27But certainly, something that matters to everybody.
28:31Energy, LPG, gas.
28:33Everybody was talking about oil and you know how that's going to impact.
28:37But most countries always have storage for oil.
28:41Maria, it's gas that countries do not store for a longer period of time.
28:49How is that really looking like when it comes to the politics of a country?
28:54We've seen that across the world.
28:56But how is that looking and panning out for India?
28:58So as expected, because the parliament is in session, Gita,
29:01there was a lot of fireworks around it.
29:03The opposition seeking explanation from the government
29:05and then the government issuing an elaborate statement.
29:09Over the last few days, we have seen multiple press conferences,
29:12multiple debriefs, sessions being held by the petroleum minister himself
29:17who has tried to allay the fears.
29:20But the fear is real.
29:22The chaos is real at the same time.
29:24So tomorrow, again, a lot of conversations at the India-to-day conclave
29:28will be around this.
29:30Because energy security will decide the next few steps of this war.
29:36And as we have been sensing, Gita, particularly in West Asia,
29:39there is a larger crisis looming large.
29:43And this has to do with food security as well.
29:45That's right. Absolutely.
29:46Food security, another major issue.
29:48Because everybody talks about the Strait of Hormuz Mara,
29:51that oil is not coming out.
29:53Think about it.
29:54Vessels are not going into the Gulf where they are absolutely dependent on food coming from outside.
30:00So the countries that are in that vicinity, the GCC,
30:05are going to face massive food shortages should this crisis not resolve itself sooner.
30:12That's why all these conversations will be happening at this conclave.
30:18Breakthroughs and breakdowns.
30:19India-to-day's conclave, it's a special one.
30:24It's a landmark moment for the India-to-day group because it is a milestone 50th year of the India
30:31-to-day magazine.
30:33And, Gita, I'm going to come back to the point that I made earlier.
30:36You have spent 10 years.
30:37The significance of this conclave and why should anybody be tuning in?
30:43Everybody should be tuning in.
30:45Everybody, a lot of them should actually come try getting your passes or tickets to this event
