00:00From overgrown lots to freshly cleared spaces, residents in Trin City are rolling up their sleeves and reclaiming their surroundings
00:07through a cleanup initiative.
00:09The initiative, called Operation Take Back, is led by the Tunapuna Piyaku Regional Corporation,
00:15but officials say the real success comes from partnerships formed with contractors, private companies and residents themselves.
00:24Chairman of the corporation, Josiah Austin, says the effort became even more necessary following the removal of services once provided
00:32under CPEP.
00:34Since the abolition of CPEP, we would have been grappling with finding ways to maintain these spaces and surrounding areas.
00:41So we got home construction on board, some of their contractors on board, our corporation workers, we amalgamated some teams.
00:49We've got the private sector to come in with some trucks and backwoods and so forth.
00:53And we are doing whatever it takes to take our community back.
00:57Austin says the cleanup is just the start of a broader plan to keep communities looking their best.
01:03He says the corporation intends to rule out several additional projects aimed at keeping communities clean and attractive throughout the
01:10year.
01:11What we plan to do, however, is a cleanup campaign, a quarterly cleanup campaign.
01:17So the end of March is due for the first quarter and we move on through June and throughout the
01:22other quarters in the year.
01:23We have the beautification program where our schools within the area, the Denzi Trinity Government Primary School and also the
01:31Montague Recreation Ground and some other recreational spaces we're going to beautify.
01:36Residents in the city say they are already seeing the difference.
01:40So that we are quite happy with the efforts of the corporation as it relates to beautifying and cleaning of
01:46the area.
01:47Because they started this exercise about two weeks ago and we're near completion now.
01:53And as I said before, the comments from the residents are thumbs up 100%.
01:59They're very happy that some kind of, you know, sanity is restored to the area.
02:04We're not living in a jungle anymore.
