00:00The Christmas and Carnival seasons are usually times of celebration.
00:05But for the TTPS, it also signals a period that demands heightened vigilance.
00:10On Friday, the Northeastern Division launched its Christmas and Carnival plan
00:15with focus on what it terms high-priority areas.
00:19The Northeastern Division covers several key districts.
00:24Mova, Barataria, San Juan, Laventil Road and the Sarumlee community.
00:31These are areas where effective policing must be precise,
00:37intelligence-driven and backed by strong community relationships.
00:43As such, the TTPS has ramped up police presence in these districts.
00:48Our roll-off focuses on four key areas.
00:53One, visibility, patrols and crime prevention.
01:01We have increased foot and mobile patrols on the highways,
01:07parity bus routes, eastern menu,
01:10for operations in identified hotspots.
01:13The communities in this division will see more officers,
01:19more coordinated patrols and quite relevant now.
01:24MP4 Laventil East Mova, Christian Birchwood,
01:27pledged full support for the initiative.
01:30We fully support the entire TTPS and all of their efforts made not only throughout this period
01:41that we are about to enter, which is the Christmas Carnival period.
01:46We know that throughout this period, we have a lot of maybe a little uptick in activity,
01:51economic activity due to the spending,
01:55which may trigger some more criminal events still and a little more active themselves.
02:01So, I want to commend the police,
02:05throughout the bigger police service, for the security initiative.
02:09The TTPS also sought to give business owners in the division
02:13the assurance that they will have additional protection during this season.
02:19We would understand, of course, that it is a time when commercial activity
02:24is hoped to be high, first of all, is expected to be high.
02:30And I think it's time to mention the diversity of the terrain,
02:36because we understand that things drive activity.
02:42Safety would drive the comfort of the commercial space,
02:47but meager times would also act as root causes for other types of activity.
02:54And we're mindful of this as well.
02:56The announcement was met with optimism by the president of the San Juan Business Association.
03:02We appreciate you all, but we want you to also understand our plight
03:08and how can we be safe in this community?
03:13How can we exercise business without fear,
03:17without any kind of contradiction that we should not operate business here?
03:23And the only way we can do it is to feel safe.
03:27And to feel safe, we ask you guys to be present with us.
