00:00From Bacchanal to Broome in a matter of hours, the Ministry of Rural Development and local government says its Carnival
00:07Clean-Up Program was carried out seamlessly, restoring major event spaces shortly after the close of festivities.
00:15The culmination, of course, was over this busy Carnival weekend. We had Kiddie's Carnival. Of course, we had Monday and
00:22Tuesday.
00:22So while we had workers cleaning in between those days, of course, from the end of last lap to this
00:33morning, we wanted to ensure that all the streets were clean.
00:36And I must say our coordinated efforts really bore fruit.
00:41The initiative began as early as February 2nd, 2026, with proprietary works across multiple regions.
00:48Cleaning and maintenance efforts were concentrated in areas hosting events under the National Carnival Commission, as well as other public
00:56celebrations nationwide.
00:58High-traffic locations, including beaches, rivers, camping sites, and community spaces were given special attention ahead of Carnival Monday and
01:07Tuesday to manage the surge in public activity.
01:10But the most intense phase came after the music stopped.
01:14From the end of last lap on Carnival Tuesday, sanitation workers were deployed from midnight.
01:20By approximately 3 a.m., the majority of affected areas, including major hubs in Port of Spain and surrounding communities,
01:28had been cleared and restored.
01:29We had the trucks from the various corporations in terms of removal of the bags of garbage that the workers
01:38would have put together.
01:41In addition to that, you had backhoes to remove those trucks, compactors.
01:46You also had water trucks to wash down and sanitize the streets.
01:50These are things that would have been done throughout in the past.
01:55But I think this time we had a more coordinated effort.
01:58While post-Carnival cleaning is standard procedure, the Ministry says this year's program benefited from strengthened inter-agency collaboration and
02:07tighter operational coordination.
02:10The Ministry also acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Kamlo Passat-Bissasa in facilitating inter-ministerial coordination during the Carnival
02:18period.
02:19The same people who were booing Flava Village were there jumping up because it was such a success.
02:25The vendors were saying that they had more sales than in the past.
02:29All the events went off smoothly.
02:32The security, I think Minister of National Security did an excellent job to get our defense in terms of ensuring
02:39all our regions, not just Port of Spain and San Fernando, but all our regions were safe.
02:45The Ministry says the successful execution of the program reflects improved planning, coordination and community cooperation, ensuring that Carnival celebrations
02:55ended not only safely, but cleanly.
