00:12and they're making the move. We are helping them find their perfect country
00:17house. I love how lush it is, like there's definitely a lot of greenery, kind of
00:23magical. It's amazing, I feel like I'm in Barbie's dream house.
00:37We're here in the tranquil town of Souk, British Columbia with Amanda and Chris, who are looking
00:42for their perfect country home. It's always been a dream of theirs to have a bed and breakfast,
00:46so I've put together three pretty unique properties and I think one of them might just be the one.
00:51Let's go take a look.
00:55Hello, I'm Jeff. Amanda. Pleasure to meet you. I'm Chris. Chris, great to
00:59meet you as well. Thanks so much for letting me join the house hunt today. Obviously, you know,
01:04we're enjoying a little liquid sunshine. I've got a little bit of the backstory,
01:07but tell me a little more about you. So, how did you two meet?
01:17I was hired to do a catering job in Souk at a fishing lodge and Chris was one of the
01:24guests. We became friends and yeah, just started hanging out. Yeah. So, I had wanted to open a bed and
01:32breakfast for years. His skill and character and all, everything that he is.
01:39brings so much to the table. So, it was time. And yeah, I just, I'm really excited.
01:49The must-haves are rooms that have their own private bathrooms, ideally. A principal suite that allows us a little
01:59bit of privacy.
02:00We both came from tiny homes. So, space is a huge thing.
02:05A kitchen that I can either renovate or that lends itself to hosting the bed and breakfast guests. Space to
02:13grow as well. So, property, land. Positioning is important too. We want to be close to nature.
02:23Nestled on the southwestern tip of Vancouver Island, Souk is a hidden gem celebrated for all its stunning natural landscapes
02:30and rich outdoor experiences.
02:32With rugged coastlines, tranquil beaches and expansive forests, Souk is an idyllic retreat from all that hustle and bustle of

02:40Outdoor enthusiasts can indulge in activities like hiking, biking, and whale watching, while the town's vibrant art scene and local
02:47markets add a touch of cultural charm.
02:50For a couple looking to open a bed and breakfast, Souk's captivating scenery and warm community make it the perfect
02:56spot to create a welcoming haven for guests seeking relaxation and adventure.
03:04Now, as you can see behind us, brand new subdivision.
03:10So, what you're going to be looking at is a brand new home. So, this is really a blank canvas
03:15for you.
03:15Now, what are we thinking for budget here? Kind of a high-low range.
03:191.5 million, maybe stretch it to 1.6.

03:57I'm going to be very focused on the kitchen because I want you to make sure that it's

04:08I can pick my own appliances, but most definitely, yeah.

04:22I mean, look at the view I'll have for my kitchen.

04:29a brand new neighbourhood or whether we want a more weathered, seasoned one.

04:39We've also got, you know, a whole top floor up above.

06:16I mean, when we're running the bed and breakfast, of course, we want, the guests are coming up to have
06:20breakfast with us.
06:21But, the beauty of having the kitchen in there is that we can Airbnb it as well.

06:26Even when we're not here, we could Airbnb the suite.

12:36You are the owner of Shirley Delicious.
12:38That's right.
12:38I've been in town for two days.
12:40I've heard about 11 different times, if you don't come to Shirley's, you're missing out.
12:45So, tell me all about how it began.
12:47Well, Shirley Delicious was born 11 years ago yesterday.
12:50We just had our anniversary.
12:51Happy birthday.
12:52My former business partner's idea of opening up a little coffee shop in the middle of Shirley.
12:57He'd moved out here.
12:58And I came on board.
13:00We started off with just the two of us and our friend Lou, who's still here.
13:03And she and I own the place now.
13:05And now, we are the heart of Shirley.
13:07We are a bakery, coffee shop, cafe.
13:10So, we make everything from scratch.
13:11We try and source all of our ingredients locally as much as possible.
13:14It was originally built as a tea house and then evolved into a restaurant.
13:18And then it sat empty for three years before it became Shirley Delicious.
13:23Well, I mean, Shirley looks delicious.
13:24That's for sure.
13:28We've been all over Souq looking at some fantastic and unique properties.
13:32What draws everyone to this part?
13:33I mean, we're down in technically the area of Shirley.
13:35There's surfing.
13:36There's hiking.
13:37There's camping.
13:38It's the outdoors here.
13:39We've got some of the most spectacular beaches on the island.
13:42It was snowing a few days ago and I still see snowboards or surfboards everywhere.
13:46It's not my thing.
13:46But I will happily have a cup of coffee and a hot bowl of soup running before they come out.
13:50I'm happy to watch them as long as I don't have to get in there.

13:57Our final property is a secluded gem surrounded by lush greenery.
14:01With plenty of potential and a peaceful setting, this home could offer Amanda and Chris the tranquil retreat they've been

19:11Now, I mean, we saw some pretty unique and remarkable properties.
19:14But why don't we start by going over a little bit of a recap?
19:19House number one, we're at the top of the mountains.
19:22Brand new.
19:22I mean, that would be, you're the first ones in their blank canvas.
19:26I loved the finishings, like the floor, the tile, all of that.
19:31And I loved the kitchen.
19:32Yeah, same thing.
19:33Very bright.
19:34Like I said, you feel good when you walk in.
19:39Now, we went on to house number two.
19:42A pro was that it was subdividable.
19:45That there was all of that untouched property that we could do.
19:49Little outbuildings.
19:50Downside, I would say, is that it was actually two buildings.
19:54Like, it was like two suites.
19:56I'd like something more with rooms in it, which is a traditional B&B.

20:01I mean, obviously lots of room for the bikes, which is a positive.
20:04Yeah, absolutely.
20:05The garage, fantastic.
20:06The suite was really cool.
20:08Like, that was really neat.
20:10You know, and the concept in the main house was correct.
20:13I'm not sure about the size.

20:17We jump on to house number three.
20:19Now, that to me was a very, you know, country home.
20:22You know, we drive kind of through the woods to get there.
20:24You're not having a lot of neighbours peering in.
20:26But, I mean, that's just me.
20:27What did you think about house number three?
20:29Pros, cons?
20:30I really want something that's in the forest.
20:33So, my first impression was like, I was like, ah.
20:37I mean, you don't really get a say in this, but your thoughts just in case?
20:41No, the air was fantastic.
20:43I did look into it later and the bike trails are very close by.
20:47Right around the corner?
20:47Yeah.
20:48So, it was really nice.
20:50Honestly, the only con at all is just the amount of work that it's going to take to maintain it.
20:55Yes.
20:55Now, before we kind of narrow it down, it's always easier if we just remove one of the three out.
20:59So, if you had to eliminate one of the three, which one would it be?
21:03Number one.

21:05The lack of being in the woods, like just the neighbourhood feel, I'm not sure that's exactly what we were
21:10looking for.
21:11It's a beautiful house.
21:11But it was beautiful.

21:16I mean, both, lots of room to work with.
