00:01Tonight, on The Curse of Oak Island.
00:03Here we go.
00:04Whoa.
00:05What was that?
00:06The caisson just hit something solid.
00:08Something really hard right there.
00:10Let's see what we got.
00:12It's like they've been around a treasure chest.
00:15Oh, my gosh.
00:16What is it?
00:16It's perfectly on line of the grass.
00:19It's what we've been looking for.
00:22This is cool, Rick.
00:24This is bigger than what we think.
00:26Wow.
00:26There could be treasure down there.
00:31There is an island in the North Atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible treasure for more than
00:39200 years.
00:41So far, they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it.
00:47Man-made workings that date to medieval times.
00:51And a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:56To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:02And according to legend, one more will have to die before the treasure can be found.
01:23Hey, Jack.
01:24Fiona.
01:25Hey, Rick.
01:25Hi.
01:26Hey.
01:27Look at the progress we've made.
01:29I see that.
01:30The quest for answers and treasure continues on Oak Island as Rick Lagina begins his day on Lot 8 with
01:38Fiona Steele and Jack Begley.
01:40I think it's interesting the way that the rocks are structured on this side, on the right side.
01:44Yep.
01:45And we're not getting the same thing on the other side at all.
01:47In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the only side that was actually holding up the boulder.
01:51Mm-hmm.
01:53Here it goes.
01:54Here we go.
01:55After removing a 40,000-pound boulder from an artificially placed ring of small stones one week ago...
02:03Look at that.
02:04...the team was surprised to find new evidence that the boulder was covering a back-filled man-made feature or
02:11possible shaft.
02:12Hey, that looks like a filled hole.
02:15Exactly.
02:15Yeah.
02:17And when geoscientist Dr. Ian Spooner scanned the soils with a handheld X-ray fluorescence device, he discovered evidence of
02:26possible treasure buried somewhere deeper below.
02:30It's showing something that I didn't see in the other sample.
02:33Oh.
02:34Which is some silver.
02:36Yeah.
02:38We will remove the rest of the top layer of the soil.
02:42We'll go through the second layer.
02:44And then the plan is really to start removing some of these rocks as well to really see what's underneath
02:49here.
02:49Mm-hmm.
02:49Because there could still very well be something underneath here that we just haven't seen yet.
02:53Yeah.
02:55You just have to be patient, right?
02:57That's all you can do.
02:59The two completely different sides of the hole is really quite interesting.
03:05Yeah.
03:05Why that side and not this side?
03:07I know.
03:08I can certainly say that I think it was done a long time ago.
03:12What's your long time ago?
03:14Well, I would say before the 1700s.
03:18So we have to just keep going forward and gathering the information and have a proper analysis of everything.
03:24Yeah.
03:24There's got to be something under that boulder.
03:26Yeah.
03:27But the only way to know is to continue to do the work you're doing.
03:30So.
03:31Alrighty.
03:33All right.
03:33See you later.
03:34See you, Rick.
03:34See ya.
03:35With the Lot 8 feature, I feel absolutely intrigued.
03:39It's not like anything we see on Oak Island or anything in Nova Scotia, period.
03:44This is motivating us to look through the rocks, look through the structures.
03:48We've got to look at everything and make sure that we're not missing anything in this.
03:51There could be treasure down there.
03:57Look.
03:58Check this out, Jack.
03:59What is that?
04:00Well, it's the first flattish rock that I'm seeing and it seems to be at the bottom.
04:05And if you look at all the other rocks, they're a little rounded and little and other than those big
04:10ones sticking out.
04:11But that could be hiding something.
04:13Oh.
04:14We're going to find out.
04:16Look, it keeps going.
04:18Mmm.
04:19Oh.
04:21Mmm.
04:23It's a good thing we are going below this soil.
04:27It's the flattest rock that we've seen so far.
04:30As we've been uncovering some of the soil, we're starting to see a face of these flattened rocks.
04:35It just looks a little odd because it's so perfectly smooth and flat that I'm wondering if this is part
04:41of the feature itself.
04:43The fact that we're uncovering all of these rocks in a pattern, I wasn't expecting to see that at all.
04:49Yeah.
04:49And I don't think it would hurt to have Dr. Spooner take a look at this once it's all uncovered
04:53as well.
04:53He may be more familiar with this type of deposit.
04:56It seems not normal.
04:58Mmm-hmm.
04:59So.
05:00Can this island get any stranger?
05:02It's the strangest island with the strangest things that are so unexplainable.
05:06As Fiona continues uncovering clues on Lot 8.
05:11Later that morning.
05:12It's a new day.
05:14Here we are in the Karma.
05:16Oh, yeah.
05:17It's a hell of a thing.
05:19Jack joins Craig Tester and other members of the team in the Money Pit area.
05:24Where digging proceeds in the seven-foot diameter shaft known as Karma 1.
05:31Did he say it went down road easy?
05:33He says going down like a hot knife through butter.
05:35Here.
05:36The excavation is fast approaching a depth of 150 feet.
05:41Here we go, Terry.
05:44Meaning it could soon breach the solution channel, where the team hopes to find a massive source of precious metals
05:51that have previously been detected in this area through soil and water testing.
06:03Here we go.
06:04Let's find some gold and silver.
06:07Ooh, it's sloppy.
06:10I believe we're proving that the solution channel gobbled up a bunch of stuff from the Money Pit.
06:16The karma would be that we can finally, in the end, solve the whole thing.
06:19That would be the karma I like.
06:22Morning, guys.
06:23Morning, Adam.
06:24Morning, Adam.
06:24See y'all kind of watching the show?
06:26Yeah.
06:26What's the update?
06:28We're just starting to touch the 150 range on the dig.
06:31Okay.
06:32At 160, we'll probably hit the bedrock plateau on top of the solution channel, at which point we'll see how
06:37well we're cutting through it, right?
06:38Yeah.
06:38Absolutely.
06:39So we're going to get almost to the top of the bedrock plateau with this one.
06:43Yeah.
06:43We're ready to go at it.
06:44Cool.
06:45Yeah, get the tools.
06:46All right, guys.
06:46We'll keep you updated.
06:47Thanks.
06:49Once we get to 155, we should let the guys at the watch plan know we've got a lot of
06:56stuff that they could be looking for there.
06:58I may have already found a really cool, interesting find.
07:03Yeah.
07:04Definitely.
07:05As the digging operation continues in the Karma One shaft, some 500 feet to the east near Smith's Cove.
07:15That'd be limestone.
07:16It's a piece of pottery.
07:18Charles Barkhouse and other members of the team sift through the excavated spoils that are being processed at the wash
07:25plant.
07:27Installed by Billy Gerhardt and his team, the industrial grade machine moves truckloads of spoils through metal grates, known as
07:36grizzly bars, to remove larger rocks.
07:39The spoils then pass through a tool known as a chopper to break up and remove the thick clay.
07:47From there, they drop onto a shaker deck, where they are sprayed clean with water and then separated by size
07:54onto three conveyor belts, allowing the team to examine them by hand for important clues.
08:03Hey, Charles, look at that.
08:09That's really cool.
08:10That's a great find, Bailey.
08:12Let's put it in a bag and I'm going to take it and show the guys.
08:15Awesome.
08:17That's a wash plant.
08:18You're looking for anything out of the ordinary, anything that catches your eye.
08:21You literally pull it off the belt because you don't know what it may mean.
08:25Hey, Jack.
08:27What do you think of that?
08:28Oh.
08:30Well, first glance, I see the smaller loops and they're not uniform.
08:35No, they're not.
08:36And you can see, I bet this could be quite old.
08:38Well, Jack, if that is hand wrought, then it could be 1850s and earlier.
08:43Wow.
08:44But it is pretty cool.
08:45Whenever I see links to chain, I often wondered what was it attached to.
08:48Yeah.
08:49Right?
08:50This could be a clue to the mystery.
08:52Yeah.
08:53I'll go take it back to the lab.
08:55Okay.
08:55We'll keep looking.
08:56Yeah.
08:59Meanwhile, back in the money pit area.
09:02Woo-hoo!
09:03I like this new piece of equipment.
09:05We're getting down there.
09:08That's some pretty good progress.
09:14I feel like I'm on something.
09:16I can't tell if that's the wood in there shaking them or it's something hard.
09:23It's a piece of metal.
09:24That's maybe what I'm on.
09:28You saw it on something, too.
09:36Josh!
09:37Is it feeling hard now?
09:38I'm in the...
09:39I'm in the...
09:39I'm in the...
09:39I'm in the...
09:39I'm in the...
09:39I'm in the bottom.
09:40Something hard hanging me up there.
09:48Something's going on here.
09:53Hello, Mike.
09:54How's it going?
09:55Hey, guys.
09:56Hey, Quinn.
09:57How you doing?
09:57So we're hitting something hard again.
10:00We're not sure exactly what it is, if it's metal or if it's something else down there.
10:04Oh, wow.
10:05In the money pit area, the Karma 1 shaft has encountered a strangely hard material, or possible
10:12object at a depth of nearly 160 feet.
10:16Great stuff.
10:17All right.
10:17I'll keep you updated.
10:18Nice of luck, Quinn.
10:19Thank you very much.
10:19Appreciate it.
10:21It's kind of exciting to think there's some stronger obstacle down there that's stopping
10:26the equipment.
10:27Even the teeth and the tools that we brought out this year on this equipment is designed
10:31to chew through bedrock.
10:33And the fact that it is having a hard time going through it suggests maybe there's something
10:37else down there.
10:38Hi, buddy.
10:39How's it going?
10:39Hey.
10:40They did say that the caisson just hit something solid.
10:44According to Rock, caisson's at 155, digs a little bit past it.
10:48They felt the ground solidify.
10:51What's it looking like?
10:52Hard play?
10:53Possibly metal.
10:54Good.
10:54I hope we get lucky.
10:56We well could.
10:57Absolutely.
10:59Here comes the bucket.
11:00Now the bucket, another chance, guys.
11:02Here it comes.
11:02Yep.
11:05That looks like solid material right at the bottom of the bucket.
11:10Okay, mate.
11:12Let's see if there's anything in this load.
11:23We've got a signal, Terry.
11:26Yep.
11:29Yeah, just there.
11:39I think it's in the deck, Terry.
11:49Now we're in.
11:51It's a piece of metal plate.
11:53Or it could be part of a shoe from an old shaft.
11:59Interesting.
12:00Yep.
12:01There's something here.
12:02Be careful.
12:03It looks sharp.
12:04Yep.
12:06Metal pieces, possibly from the bottom brace or shoe of an old shaft.
12:11I think I found a piece of shoe.
12:14It could be off the bottom of the chapel shaft.
12:16Well, we may be at the bottom.
12:17Yeah.
12:18Getting close to the bottom of the chapel for sure.
12:22In 1897, treasure hunters Frederick Blair and William Chappell drilled into a believed
12:28seven-foot-high concrete-encased vault at a depth of 153 feet.
12:34In 1931, with the help of William's son, Melbourne, the three men constructed a nearly
12:41160-foot-deep shaft in an unsuccessful attempt to retrieve it.
12:46Is it possible that the team has recovered a clue suggesting they may be close to rediscovering
12:53the so-called chapel vault?
12:56We're thinking that treasure fell to the bottom of the solution channel.
13:00Hopefully today or maybe early tomorrow.
13:02We'll be down there.
13:03We're going to find out.
13:04Yeah.
13:04And this is the moment of truth.
13:06Oh, level load coming up.
13:08Here it comes.
13:09Yeah.
13:11Yeah.
13:17That, my friends, is gypsum right there.
13:19Yeah.
13:20Yeah, that would mean we are probably into the bedrock plateau a little bit.
13:24Yeah.
13:25The bedrock plateau is the thick layer of gypsum, some 160 to 170 feet deep, that the team
13:35has previously encountered just above the solution channel.
13:38This means they have just a few more feet of digging before reaching their target zone,
13:44where silver has been detected.
13:46We're getting to the heart of the matter now, guys.
13:48Here we go.
13:49We're going to be boring through the edge of the solution channel on the bedrock plateau,
13:54crunching down through.
13:55That's going to be tough cutting from here on in.
13:58We have done a lot of caissons around here, but very few of them extended beyond the bedrock
14:02plateau.
14:03That is very difficult to drill through, and that causes an immense amount of difficulty
14:08for the drillers to try and carry on that hole, and down into the actual solution channel
14:11itself.
14:13Oh!
14:18I think I'm on the rock.
14:23Guys, looks like a report coming in.
14:25We're in that kind of bad material to drill that we've seen.
14:28Oh, yeah.
14:29So we're going a little bit slower right now because we're pushing through some hard stuff.
14:34We're happy to report we're down to 171 feet with the casing.
14:37The quicker you break into the solution channel, I think the more likely you are to find what
14:41we seek.
14:42It's about time, right?
14:44That's right, Gary.
14:45Wouldn't that be karma?
14:46Karma, yes, absolutely.
14:48Very good.
14:48Thanks, guys.
14:50As the dig pushes deeper in the Money Pit area.
14:54Well, this is a pretty exciting spot.
14:56This is Cone D. We know it's part of the alignment for the cross.
15:01In the northwestern region of the swamp, Tom Nolan is leading a search on his property
15:06near Cone D, one of six massive boulders that make up the megalithic feature known as
15:13Nolan's Cross.
15:15We're going to stay in the line of the cross and we're going to move towards the headstone.
15:21Gaspani has a theory about the cross.
15:23We could find some artifacts on this and maybe something even bigger than that.
15:27Okay.
15:27Let's do it.
15:29I am very enthusiastic about what we will learn today.
15:32One week ago, archaeoastronomy expert Professor Adriano Gaspani presented his analysis that
15:40the eight sided wooden survey stakes found in the swamp may have been put in place along
15:45with the boulders of Nolan's Cross in the 13th century by members of the Knights Templar.
15:51The two sets of stakes were dated.
15:58Now, because Cone D sets in the swamp near the stakes, Tom hopes to find more clues in the
16:05area that might help prove this incredible theory.
16:08I think I'm good for now.
16:11Lots of rocks.
16:13Now, what is this?
16:15What is this?
16:17Hmm.
16:18This looks, I mean, split.
16:21Yeah.
16:21It looks split and then it doesn't look natural, does it?
16:25No.
16:25But it's perfectly on the line of the cross.
16:32And the one leaning up here looks almost like it's been perfectly cut, doesn't it?
16:37Maybe we should give Rick a call.
16:39Just have a look at it, see what he thinks.
16:41Yeah.
16:41It's an idea.
16:41Okay.
16:42I'll text him to come down and have a look at this.
16:45Could Tom be correct that they have found an artificially split stone near Cone D?
16:50If so, who split it in two and for what purpose?
16:57Hey, Tom.
16:58Hey, Rick.
16:58Might get you to have a look at this.
17:01The reason this stands out is because it is right on the line of the cross.
17:08Pretty substantial, too.
17:10An unnatural look to it, for sure.
17:12Yep.
17:13You know, every time my dad found a stone formation that fit with the line of the stakes,
17:18you know, he assumed that the original creators of this placed these stones.
17:23I mean, we know the boulders of the cross were placed,
17:26but to me, this might be part of the works.
17:29Maybe Al can just do a little dig here and see what's what.
17:40It's weird.
17:43Just a sec, Al.
17:45Look at this, Rick.
17:46Almost the coloration has totally changed in this one area.
17:51Oh, yeah.
17:52Very gray-looking, eh?
17:54Yeah.
17:55The rocks are kind of grayish.
17:59The soil even looks grayish.
18:02That's almost blue clay-looking.
18:05Maybe it matches the Lot 5 clay.
18:08Yeah.
18:08Lot 5 and the Money Pit as well.
18:19That would be quite something.
18:24While digging near the Cone D boulder of Nolan's Cross, Rick and other members of the team have just discovered
18:32a possible clue, potentially hand-worked blue clay, that has previously been uncovered in the rounded feature on Lot 5,
18:41as well as during 19th century digging operations.
18:44In the original Money Pit.
18:46It's concentrated right in this one spot.
18:50That's definitely different, though.
18:52You haven't seen that anywhere in that dig, have you?
18:55No.
18:56Follows that rock split.
18:57Well, we should bag more samples to that stuff.
19:01Yeah.
19:01We know that blue clay, when used correctly, will seal a box, a treasure chest, a chamber from the penetration
19:12of water.
19:13We know it because they use blue clay on the shafts.
19:16And I hope this is the connection to the Money Pit.
19:18And I find that exceedingly interesting.
19:21I think what we might do, Al, is just do a side profile, just to see if we see that
19:27continuation going that way.
19:30Okay.
19:52What is it?
19:55I don't know.
19:57I don't know.
19:59What is it?
20:02Steak.
20:03Oh, my gosh.
20:04It was pounded right in alongside the rock,
20:06right on the line of the cross.
20:08If this is the line, as you say,
20:11then somebody wanted to make sure it was laid out perfectly.
20:14This steak definitely ties to the line of the cross.
20:17Yeah, let's see it, Tom, if I can.
20:25And your dad never used these, right?
20:27No. He just used the factory-cut ones.
20:31Axe cut.
20:32Yeah.
20:33Finding that here, that's quite something.
20:36Mm-hmm.
20:377,500 feet from Cone D.
20:40Oh, it can only be in association with the layout of the cross.
20:43What else could it be?
20:44It makes sense to find one here,
20:46because if they were laying out the cross,
20:48they're staring right across the block.
20:50You'd want to set a post here
20:52to make sure you were on the right line.
20:54Yeah.
20:55Given that the team has now found another survey steak
20:58located some 25 yards
21:00from one of the boulders of Nolan's Cross.
21:03Could it be connected to the others
21:05previously found nearby in the swamp
21:08and support Professor Gaspani's theory
21:11that the wooden stakes at Nolan's Cross
21:13are directly related?
21:16It's stunning.
21:17It's what five highly accredited astronomers
21:21and archaeoastronomers said.
21:22They agree with the professor's calculations
21:25and conclusions.
21:26It's what we've been looking for.
21:28Yeah.
21:28The stakes found in close proximity to Nolan's Cross,
21:32which was possibly built in the 1200s,
21:36might be more concrete evidence
21:39that it was done at the same moment in time.
21:42That needs to go to the lab,
21:44and we've got more to dig.
21:46Okey-doke.
21:49Later that afternoon.
21:52Hey, Peter.
21:53Hi, Fiona.
21:54Hi.
21:54What do you think of this?
21:56Oh, wow.
21:58Dr. Ian Spooner arrives on Lot 8,
22:00where Fiona has now uncovered
22:03a tightly packed layer of stones
22:05that were hidden beneath back-filled soil
22:07and the massive boulder.
22:09Now, I would like to know if you think I'm crazy,
22:11because I don't feel like this is natural at all.
22:14It's not natural, first of all.
22:16It just can't be because of the organic matter
22:18all around those stones.
22:19Mm-hmm.
22:20I've never seen anything like this here.
22:22And you can also see the cradle of rocks
22:24around the top quite nicely now.
22:26Yes.
22:26It's wild.
22:27I'm blown away.
22:28Well, you can even see a circular formation
22:30of rocks right around the base here.
22:32Yeah.
22:32I'm going to be removing this soil shortly,
22:34and I would like to see if that pattern continues.
22:36Right.
22:36We're just wondering if there's something underneath.
22:39Right.
22:39You know, was there something intentionally buried?
22:41Yes.
22:42You know, we did some XRF,
22:44a portal XRF.
22:45We got high lead,
22:45and that's interesting to me why the high lead.
22:48Yeah.
22:49Three weeks ago,
22:51after taking soil samples beneath the large boulder,
22:54Dr. Spooner found high traces of lead in the material.
22:59This suggested evidence of burning fire underground,
23:02which is a mining practice that was used centuries ago
23:06to circulate air in shafts and tunnels.
23:09So what do you think it is?
23:10The stone is either a marker
23:12or something to protect something.
23:15Yeah.
23:15I agree.
23:16Is it possible that the team has revealed
23:19an artificial covering for a shaft
23:21or some kind of structure hidden below?
23:24There's something about this
23:26that makes me feel like it's ancient.
23:28Yeah.
23:28Yeah.
23:29And this would take an extraordinary amount of effort.
23:32It would be with incredible purpose and intent.
23:35That's why, to me,
23:35there should be something more here.
23:38Maybe there is.
23:39Yeah, yeah.
23:40Gotta go deeper, yeah.
23:41Yeah.
23:41Anyway, I'd love to come back when it's further developed.
23:46Great.
23:46Thank you for your set of eyes upon us.
23:47I think it's really cool you're involved
23:48in one of the coolest things I've seen.
23:50It is very cool.
23:51Yeah.
23:52Yeah.
23:53Uncle Rick needs to take a look at this.
23:55I agree.
23:58As a new morning dawns on Oak Island.
24:03This is cool, Rick.
24:05Well, so they did make a cradle.
24:09Yeah.
24:10Rick arrives on Lot 8
24:11with other members of the team
24:13for his first look at the stone formation
24:16that was covered by the 40,000-pound boulder.
24:19It's like a mosaic.
24:21Yeah.
24:22It's really quite well done.
24:23Yeah.
24:24My mind's racing with a number of questions.
24:27Who did it?
24:28Why was it done?
24:29What does it mean?
24:30Is it a totally different story
24:33than the treasure story?
24:35It exhibits a mosaic-like appearance,
24:38which is really quite unique.
24:41To support a 40,000-pound boulder,
24:43there is a reason why this was done.
24:47So what do we think?
24:49I think this is culturally significant.
24:51Yep.
24:52It's either here to cover something
24:54or it's here to mark something.
24:57And we can't rule out a number of ideas
24:59for this at this point.
25:01I mean, it could have been ceremonial.
25:02Standing alone, this doesn't make sense
25:04because for all intents and purposes,
25:06it's in the middle of nowhere, really.
25:08Have you ever seen anything like this before?
25:10No.
25:10I've worked with stone for a number of years.
25:14I see it and I think,
25:15how in the world would you do that?
25:18Why would you do that
25:19if you're not going to inter something underneath it?
25:22And if there is something underneath it,
25:24then it's got to be valuable to those persons.
25:27This is done by somebody who has sufficient resources
25:30that they can pour everything into it
25:32in terms of manpower.
25:34It's almost certainly European.
25:36Yeah, that's what I would agree.
25:37I think it's European as well.
25:39This could be changing Nova Scotian history.
25:43I've done a lot of research
25:44on different megalithic structures and megaliths
25:47across North America and even in Europe.
25:50I believe strongly that what we're seeing
25:52is a European megalithic construction.
25:55The indigenous people, I don't think,
25:57would have the technology to do it.
25:59You'd need an intimate knowledge of physics and geometry,
26:02nor would they bother to move a boulder like that.
26:05So it has to be a European construct.
26:08That makes the most sense to me.
26:10Well, this is very interesting.
26:12You all know that Marty had a keen interest in this.
26:15Yeah.
26:16We should show him what this feature is beginning to develop.
26:20I think he'd like to be brought up to speed on that,
26:22so I'll give him a phone call.
26:25Hey.
26:26Hey, Rick.
26:26Hey, brother, what's going on?
26:28Well, we're about to show you.
26:30You can guess where we are.
26:31I would guess you're on lot eight.
26:34You got that exactly correct.
26:36I'm gonna hand the phone to Fiona,
26:38and she can give you a visual of the work they've done.
26:42Okay.
26:43Well, Marty, I can't wait to show you this.
26:45I'll turn it around.
26:46Yes?
26:47Okay.
26:47What are you looking at?
26:48You're looking at a rock-lined, cradled area
26:52underneath the boulder.
26:54Yeah.
26:55It's entirely rock-lined, absolutely man-placed,
27:00and extremely intentional.
27:02It looks like the paved road in the swamp.
27:04Yeah.
27:05Well, that idea, I certainly think it's absolutely intentional
27:08and purposeful.
27:09Could Marty be correct that the stone feature on lot eight
27:13might have the same design as the stone road
27:17that was uncovered in the southeast corner of the swamp
27:20back in 2020?
27:22A road that may be at least 500 years old
27:26and of Portuguese origin.
27:28If so, could both be connected to the 14th century silver
27:34Portuguese coin believed to have been recovered from the
27:37money pit back in 1849?
27:39The boulder on lot eight doesn't appear to have been manipulated
27:44by any of the known earlier searchers.
27:46There's nothing in the record, which means we might be dealing
27:50with something that we know is untampered with.
27:53We're the first people to look at this thing in a modern sense.
27:56We found what might be the most significant thing.
28:00It's just not anything you could make up.
28:03I'm hoping there's a breakthrough.
28:05Do you have any idea what it is?
28:07I mean, sometimes you will have a rock-lined feature
28:10if you have a cache of something underneath.
28:13It could be a marker of some sort.
28:15But I think it's old.
28:16I feel like it's probably European.
28:19Does everybody agree with that?
28:20Yeah, I think we're all feeling the same with it.
28:23This is the only thing I've ever been involved with
28:24at OK Redwork.
28:25Every expert agrees.
28:27No.
28:28That doesn't happen.
28:30No artifacts, though, right?
28:31No artifacts yet.
28:32That alone is also indicating that either somebody
28:36was really trying to hide what they did here
28:37or they really didn't have things to lose,
28:40which is also giving us implications
28:42that this could be really, really old.
28:44I'll give this back to Rick.
28:46When you're finally done with the archaeological process,
28:49I want to dig deep underneath it.
28:51Once it's fully exposed,
28:53we may have some more insight for you.
28:55OK, well, look.
28:56It's going the right way, then.
28:58You know what I'm going to say.
28:59A, thank you very much.
29:00B, call me any time when you have significant stuff like this,
29:04and C, get back to work.
29:06OK.
29:07Bye.
29:07Bye.
29:08OK.
29:09So we just need to go around this in a very, very careful way
29:12and not miss anything.
29:14What are the next steps here?
29:16We have to draw this cross-section first, very quickly,
29:19and then take out the rest of the soils
29:22because the rocks are quite dramatic.
29:24We all want answers,
29:26but I don't want to accelerate the process
29:29in a destructive or invasive way
29:31just to get an answer.
29:33Let's keep at this work,
29:36so let's see what comes of it.
29:38There might be a secret right there.
29:39Please continue.
29:41I'm not ready.
29:42Yeah.
29:45Later that morning...
29:48I love the smell of Money Pit dirt in the morning.
29:51Smells like victory, eh, Gary?
29:53Yeah.
29:55In the Money Pit area,
29:56members of the team are closely monitoring
29:59the excavation of the Karma 1 caisson,
30:02which has now reached the solution channel.
30:05How you doing, Rick?
30:06Nothing, yeah.
30:07We've broken through the bedrock plateau
30:09down into the solution channel.
30:11I mean, exactly what we were looking for.
30:13The teeth were only at about 175, 176.
30:16We've still got about 40-ish feet before we hit
30:19the very dead bottom.
30:20215 here, I would say.
30:22So, yeah, another 35 feet.
30:24Yeah.
30:27All right, Terry.
30:28Time to shine.
30:29Off we go.
30:40We've got a signal just there, mate.
30:47Every metal detecting hit.
30:49It's exciting now.
30:51Yeah.
30:55Something really hard right there.
30:58Let's see what we got.
31:00Wow.
31:06There it is.
31:07It's in the clump.
31:10Ah, that's the part.
31:12Okay, very good.
31:13After reaching a depth of some 180 feet
31:17in the Karma 1 shaft,
31:19the Oak Island team has made a potentially
31:21significant discovery in the solution channel.
31:24Just some pieces of pipe.
31:26That's very deep.
31:28Does that look very old to you, Rick?
31:30All I can tell you is Dan never used that size.
31:33Okay.
31:34That's probably older.
31:37Back in the 1960s, when Dan Blankenship was drilling in the money pit,
31:41he was able to get down to 190 feet.
31:46Deeper than previous searcher efforts, he used a six-inch pipe,
31:50but this appears to be much thinner than that.
31:54I'm just curious why they went so deep.
31:56Yeah.
31:56The question is, who was here?
32:00There was another big chunk of pipe.
32:02Come on.
32:02Terry's got it.
32:03A big old chunk there.
32:05Very heavy pipe.
32:06Boy, she tore off, though.
32:08Look at that.
32:08Yeah, she broke away, yeah.
32:10That's a little bit of searcher history.
32:12That's what that is.
32:13This seam up the side, you see this seam in all of it,
32:17and the threads really don't look finely machined.
32:19I'm thinking that could be relatively old.
32:22Good.
32:22The last time we found a drill vet, you'll remember,
32:25we're not far from this location.
32:27Emma dated it to mid-1800s.
32:28That actually could have been the drill rod
32:30that found the Pit Play-Doh coin.
32:32Yeah, possibly, yeah.
32:33There was a reason they were drilling here.
32:34Same reason we're drilling here.
32:35We have enough evidence to believe that this is a prime location.
32:38Somebody before us thought the same thing.
32:41Yep.
32:42What is that?
32:43That looks like some steel to me.
32:45Earlier this year, while core drilling in this area,
32:49the team recovered pieces of an iron drill rod
32:52that were dated to the same period
32:55that the Truro company drilled into the original money pit
32:58back in 1849.
33:00It was during that operation that drilling foreman,
33:04James Pit Play-Doh,
33:05reportedly found a silver 14th century Portuguese coin
33:09on the end of his drill bit.
33:12Is it possible that the team has recovered another clue
33:16to suggest they're digging in the location
33:19of the original money pit?
33:21And perhaps also mean they could be closing in
33:24on many more 14th century silver coins.
33:28It's filled full of material.
33:30Yeah.
33:31We can test all of that material.
33:33And see if it has any precious metals
33:35or associated base metals.
33:38And we'll set this aside.
33:39We'll get it back to the lab.
33:40Good.
33:43Well, guys, I'm going to head down to the wash plant.
33:46See you later, Steve.
33:46Yep.
33:49If the treasure's fallen right here,
33:51it would be good karma.
33:53I mean, after all this time and all the efforts
33:55by so many people over literally two centuries,
34:00until that can gets down to the bottom of the solution channel,
34:03you've got to cross your fingers a little bit.
34:05So, we're in a good space.
34:07Yeah.
34:08We just keep pushing until you get to the very bottom.
34:11I'm hoping it's a medieval treasure we're going to be finding.
34:14And it might be religious artifacts.
34:16I think we've proven and we will continue to prove
34:19that the old world was in the new world long before Columbus.
34:24Yeah, for sure.
34:25And maybe they worked hard for a special reason,
34:28a special purpose to safeguard something special.
34:32We have found some very interesting artifacts.
34:36Some of them were very old, you know, Roman coins,
34:40Venetian glass beads, hand cannon.
34:44And then you have the so-called Pripoledo coin,
34:48and you have to wonder, is there a connection?
34:52I think something very early was undertaken here.
34:55My hope is that as the work continues in Karma 1,
34:58we will find artifacts that will solve the Oak Island mystery at large.
35:05Now, if you find one of those coins,
35:08one of those so-called Picoledo coins,
35:11we're off to the races, right?
35:12Yeah.
35:13Maybe it'll be right over there.
35:15Yeah.
35:16That's what we're in, Paul.
35:18Coins mine.
35:19There you go.
35:21Meanwhile, at the wash plant near Smith's Cove,
35:25Steve and other members of the team search for clues
35:28in the cleaned and sorted spoils from the Karma 1 shaft.
35:40Oh, look at there.
35:42What's he got?
35:43Check that out.
35:46Well, that's an old chain.
35:48Wow.
35:49This is now the second chain we found.
35:51Cool.
35:52That's a good find at this depth.
35:53Yeah.
35:55A second piece of chain found in the spoils of the Karma 1 shaft?
36:00How old could it be?
36:02And just what was its purpose?
36:05So what I'd like to do is I'm going to give Gary a text
36:07and have him come down and take a look at it.
36:09You want to hold that for a second?
36:10Sure.
36:12Wow.
36:14When Steve called me to go down to the wash plant,
36:17that could only mean one thing.
36:19They made a great find.
36:22Hey, Gary.
36:23Hi, mate.
36:23Thanks for texting.
36:24Yeah.
36:25So we had a cool find.
36:26Aaron found this.
36:27Another chain.
36:29What do you think of that?
36:30Oh, that's sweet.
36:32Oh, look at that.
36:34Yeah, this is old.
36:35Yeah, it looks really old.
36:36This is an old piece of chain.
36:38I found an old chain like this in England.
36:41Maybe it's 1700s, 1600s.
36:44But I'm hoping this could be older.
36:46Oh, good.
36:47Yeah.
36:48And you can see it looks like every link was individually made.
36:53This is hand-forged.
36:54And look, you can see the striations.
36:57Mm-hmm.
36:58What I like about this chain is the size.
37:02Because this isn't for all in anything.
37:04The size of it is small.
37:06Yeah.
37:07Look at that big link there.
37:08Why would you need a big link here?
37:10Yeah.
37:11I think this was the end of a securing chain.
37:14Okay.
37:15I mean, we're searching for treasure, mate.
37:17This is the type of chain that might have been around a treasure chest.
37:25That's really, really sweet.
37:29I found an old chain like this in England.
37:32Yep.
37:32This is the type of chain that might have been around a treasure chest.
37:36Yep.
37:37That's really, really sweet.
37:38At the wash plant, members of the team examined a discovery that was unearthed nearly 180 feet deep in the
37:48Karma 1 shaft.
37:50The chain could have gone around a chest and been attached to there with a lock on it.
37:55Mm-hmm.
37:56To stop somebody from opening it.
37:59This owes hope that there's treasure below.
38:00That's a good find then by Aaron.
38:02Yeah, really cool.
38:04Yeah, that's got a lot of potential, especially in the area where we're drilling.
38:08Yeah.
38:09That's a really, really nice find though.
38:11Well done.
38:12I appreciate it, Gary.
38:13All right, mate.
38:17Meanwhile, back in the Money Pit area.
38:24What was that?
38:28Just going slow.
38:30Real slow.
38:38I haven't heard that all day until now.
38:42The excavation in Karma 1 has now reached a depth below 200 feet in the solution channel.
38:50My presses are higher.
38:52Then going down, then going back up.
38:54We're tightening up.
38:55Yeah.
38:56All right.
38:58I think we hit that hard bedrock.
39:01Hey, guys.
39:02Hey.
39:03So, where are we?
39:04So, we are down to 212 feet, and we think we've hit the bottom.
39:08Okay.
39:09We're going to have Jared pick up the can a foot or two for the night and let things settle.
39:14100%.
39:14That auger's going all day, spinning stuff up.
39:17It suspends a lot of material.
39:19If we let this settle overnight, there's a good chance we can see 10 feet, 15 feet of sediment.
39:24There could be anything in there.
39:26There could be anything in there.
39:26The massive auger has ground through sediment and hard clays, causing the caisson that now
39:33sits on the bottom of the solution channel to become full of spoils and possible valuables.
39:39Now, the team from SB Canada will lift the caisson several feet to let the materials settle overnight into a
39:47pile on the bedrock.
39:49Then, they will use the dig bucket to remove the accumulated spoils and any possible treasure that may be contained
39:56within them.
40:00I think of it as a giant mixmaster.
40:03Things get stirred around.
40:05Things might, you know, be held up higher in some of that clay.
40:11And if we let it settle out overnight, we can now actually search for what we believe has fallen to
40:17those depths.
40:18Whether it be one coin or a whole chest full of coins.
40:22We know materials move around at the bottom.
40:26Just letting it settle will be good karma.
40:30We want to know that we got every last bit out of it.
40:33Yeah, yep.
40:33So that's a good plan.
40:35And clean the bottom and then let's let it settle out and see what happens tomorrow.
40:38And then we'll count the coins, right?
40:41This could be monumental.
40:43100%.
40:44So, if you guys are good, we're good.
40:46Yeah, we're good.
40:47We'll start it back up in the morning.
40:49Yep.
40:49That was great.
40:50All right, guys.
40:51See you guys.
40:53After digging deeper than any previous searcher on Oak Island, could Rick, Marty, Craig and the team
41:01finally be within reach of the precious metals they detected in the solution channel?
41:06And if so, does a discovery await them that will link the money pit, the triangle-shaped swamp,
41:13and the bolder feature on Lot 8, to priceless sacred treasures?
41:20One thing is certain, they will settle for nothing less than the truth behind this 231-year-old mystery.
41:34Next time on The Curse of Oak Island.
41:38Oh, wow.
41:39Check that out.
41:40That's a great find.
41:41That could be really, really old.
41:42This was used to build a wooden vault or some sort of structure down below for safekeeping.
41:47After researching the Xenomap, I came across three churches on the west coast of France.
41:52These three churches are pointing towards their continent.
41:54You've got something big on your hands.
41:56It's absolutely intentional.
41:57It matches slot five in the money pit.
41:59They were trying to conceal it.
42:00Which makes it even more spectacular.
