00:01Welcome to Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
00:04The ultimate renovation showdown.
00:06Whose idea was this?
00:08The one man.
00:09Take him over me.
00:11Over four thrilling weeks, creativity meets competition.
00:14That looks wicked, doesn't it?
00:15Perfect fit, oh my gosh.
00:18As determined duos battle it out to prove.
00:21I'm having an absolute nightmare.
00:23They've got the vision, skill and grit to win the ultimate prize.
00:26I haven't got a clue.
00:27I can cry, I can literally cry.
00:30The keys to this breathtaking French property.
00:34Set on the outskirts of a Normandy nature park,
00:37the property boasts six bedrooms, four bathrooms,
00:42two salons, five additional rooms to renovate,
00:45perfectly pruned gardens, stunning outbuildings,
00:49its very own orchard and even a historic bread oven.
00:53It's a lot to play for and if we lose, I'll be fuming.
00:56Three heats and a grand finale where only the best will rise.
01:02All the pairs have to do is show they have the renovation know-how
01:06to impress me and various guest judges from Chateau DIY.
01:10I think this is really creative.
01:12What a transformation.
01:14In weekly challenges designed to push their creativity and skills to the limit.
01:19The clock is ticking.
01:20Win the week and they secure their spot in the grand finale.
01:24The dream is real, the stakes are high.
01:27This is Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
01:39Welcome to the grand finale of Chateau DIY Win The Dream.
01:45Where our three winning pairs from the heats are back for one last shot
01:49at making this life-changing property their own.
01:54Time for our finalists to meet.
01:58We're back!
02:00We're back!
02:00Are you excited?
02:01Yeah.
02:01It looks even better the second time, I think.
02:04We can't believe that we're here.
02:06I'm just a ball of nerves, but I'm really, really excited.
02:09I can't wait to get in there again.
02:10Imagine if it was ours.
02:11Imagine.
02:12Yeah.
02:12Well, hopefully it will be.
02:14You're excited.
02:15I'm nervous.
02:16It's so surreal looking at it.
02:18It's as beautiful as ever.
02:20How are you?
02:21Nice to meet you.
02:22How are you?
02:22Hi.
02:23I'm Josh.
02:24Nice to meet you.
02:25It feels mad to be back.
02:28I think the whole way through this competition we've been saying,
02:29like, oh, I can't imagine winning, it feels out of touching distance,
02:32but now it kind of feels like we are.
02:35Yeah, it's crazy.
02:36Have you fallen in love with the Chateau yet?
02:38Definitely, yeah.
02:39Yeah.
02:39Our brains, like, buzzing with what we do with this place,
02:41so, yeah, I feel excited to get going.
02:44Me too.
02:44Oh, my God.
02:46Wow.
02:46Look at this.
02:47It's looking great, isn't it?
02:49Oh.
02:49Hello.
02:50Hi, guys.
02:51Hello.
02:52Nice to meet you.
02:53It is surreal.
02:55Someone here is actually going to win.
02:57Nice to meet you.
02:58And Josh.
02:59And Josh.
03:00And Josh.
03:00Josh and Josh, yeah.
03:01We're excited.
03:02I think we've got that same pent-up energy when we first came
03:04where we want to get going, right?
03:06What did you guys find the most challenging?
03:08I came into this competition like a complete beginner.
03:11So, even navigating the workshop and navigating what tools to pick up,
03:15for me, was a challenge.
03:17I'd say the carpentry, the painting, the decorating, the selling.
03:21Time management.
03:21Time management.
03:22Budget.
03:23Budget.
03:24We got very used to stepping forward.
03:26Oh, no.
03:31Hello, finalists.
03:32Oh.
03:34Glad to see you're getting acquainted with each other, but don't get too comfortable,
03:38because they are your competition.
03:41Oh.
03:42Who's ready to win this chateau?
03:45Me.
03:46Then meet me downstairs.
03:49I think it's safe to say the competition is going to be harder and more intense.
03:53We're just going to have to really try and not be intimidated by them
03:57and just stay true to what we're doing.
03:59Definitely when we first started, we had that kind of imposter syndrome
04:02where we were like, are we good enough for this?
04:04There's going to be some really good people.
04:05But, you know, winning all the challenges, we're not getting too big-headed,
04:08but we're like, maybe we can actually do this.
04:10Maybe we could actually run a chateau if we really want it.
04:11We were going to practice lots of DIY.
04:14But, turns out, when you've got two children, you don't get round to it.
04:19We're so happy we are here, and now we just have to throw everything we've got at this challenge.
04:23We are going to really try our absolute best.
04:26Hello again.
04:27Hello.
04:28Deja vu, isn't it?
04:30Welcome back, everyone, and congratulations on securing your place in the grand finale.
04:37But the hard work doesn't stop here.
04:40To win the keys to this quarter of a million pound prize,
04:44you'll have to prove to me that you deserve to win this chateau.
04:47For this challenge, I want you to use your DIY skills
04:51to create a room that demonstrates your business concept
04:54to monetize the chateau should you win it.
04:57The room should include all of the dressings and equipment
05:00to run a successful chateau business and be uniquely you.
05:05Each pair will be given €1200, and you have six days to complete this challenge.
05:11You'll be judged on concept and creativity, functionality, technical skills, and the overall look and finish.
05:19Remember, one pair will be going home after this challenge.
05:23Your briefs and tools are waiting in your rooms.
05:26Your time starts now.
05:29Let's go.
05:31Unlike the heats, there will be no team challenge, as each pair will need to show how they would run
05:36their own successful chateau business.
05:38Good luck, guys.
05:39Good luck, folks.
05:40The teams have been assigned rooms that they haven't previously renovated and which would suit their business concepts.
05:47OK, so...
05:48It's a good space.
05:49Yeah, it's good. I think it's big enough.
05:50I think what's really important in this challenge is the studio represents exactly what we want to do with the
05:54business.
05:55Like, it's not about what anyone else is doing.
05:56This is genuinely what we would do if we were in the chateau.
06:00Dancers Josh and Josh are looking to transform one of the chateau's garages into a fitness and wellbeing studio.
06:06I think, for us, the thing that's going to kind of, like, seal the deal in this challenge and win
06:11it for us is, like, this wall over here.
06:13Because, at the moment, for me, this wall feels very much like a garage.
06:17Yeah.
06:17I want to see, like, a full transformation of this space with panelling woodwork.
06:21The budget isn't massive. We always are really ambitious. We want it to feel luxury.
06:25I think the plans are there. We just now need to do it.
06:27Yeah, we need to go and source everything, get everything.
06:31Ready to see the room?
06:32A new room!
06:34Oh, wow. Look at this.
06:36Oh, this is amazing.
06:38Really cool. It's super rustic, which I think is going to lend itself a while to a workshop area.
06:45Keen home renovators Chris and Paloma are hoping to build a functional workshop in one of the attic spaces.
06:51A traditional workshop in here. It'll look like you were working in, like, a barn back in the day, possibly,
06:56right?
06:56Yeah, for sure. It feels very creative.
06:58Yeah.
06:59I love the beams.
07:00The beams. We can really work with, right?
07:02Yeah.
07:02I think this room's quite good, actually, because it's got that little bit of darkness to it, a little bit
07:07of mystery to it.
07:09Downstairs in the other garage space, Zav and Tash will be hosting a murder mystery dining experience to showcase their
07:15flair for events.
07:16We're probably then going to need, like, a long banquet table.
07:19Yeah. Like, a big, long banquet table. And then we're going to have to, if it's murder mystery, have a
07:23story.
07:24You can get really nice attention to detail. Do the dressing up, you get into character. There's props throughout the
07:29house. There's all sorts of, like, cool clues in the room.
07:33Maybe someone falls down the stairs.
07:35Just paint a big body on the floor.
07:38No, I don't want it to be really sinister.
07:41The toughest elements we're working with is definitely the breeze block walls.
07:45I think keeping it simple with some paint and using the rest of the pieces to really come together.
07:52Chris and Paloma won the team, individual and event challenge in their heat, so are hoping to continue their winning
07:58streak.
07:59Because it's such a big space and it's really dark, one of my main fears is that it was going
08:04to be too dark for something like a workshop.
08:06You need loads of light to be able to see what you're doing, especially if you're working with tools that
08:10you could hurt yourself with.
08:12So, I wanted to have enough light but do it in quite a quirky way with the old-fashioned amplitudes.
08:22Our plan is to basically cover this whole wall because this wall is giving very large garage and we don't
08:30want this door on show.
08:31So, this is going to be where our mirror's going to go.
08:34So, we're going to remove this skirt in and take this door handle off and, yeah, panel this whole wall.
08:42Small scaffold boards, which I'm thinking are about the right size for a table.
08:49Yeah.
08:50In the heats, Zav and Tash were praised for their hosting prowess, but concerns were raised about attention to detail
08:57in their DIY.
08:58Something they're hoping to resolve by making bespoke furniture for their dining room.
09:03Maybe we could use another bit to make, like a sideboard.
09:08Because we can put clues on it.
09:09Like a sideboard and a table.
09:11Yeah.
09:12You can do it, aren't you?
09:13Not too much for me to make in like a week.
09:14You can do that.
09:15Yeah.
09:15And then upcycle something.
09:17Right.
09:17And do that as well.
09:18Yeah.
09:18Okay.
09:19I'll just grow another limb then.
09:25We're dying to get paint on the wall and just get started.
09:27So, I'm excited to get this done.
09:32Whilst proving themselves to be brilliantly creative in the heats, dancers Josh and Josh ran into issues with their timing.
09:38So, they've hit the ground running on their wellness studio.
09:44It's not just making a room look good.
09:46It's not for the faint heart.
09:47It's also making yourself look good as well.
09:51Josh said we were going to paint this whole room within an hour.
09:54I've no idea how long we've been going, but to be fair, I'm making good progress.
09:59Josh is doing the black on that side.
10:00He's not as quick as me.
10:01We've both got our skills.
10:03Mine is going fast.
10:05I'm dreading you in that ceiling.
10:13So, I'm...
10:16I'm sanding down my scaffold boards from a table.
10:19I'm going to sand it to the very inch of its life.
10:21This will be smoother than something that's very smooth.
10:25It's going to be smoother than me on date night.
10:32Whoa, you two don't hang about do you?
10:34Yes.
10:36What's going on?
10:37So, our plan for this space is to turn it into sort of a creative wellbeing retreat studio.
10:43Is there anything that you're worried about? Any potential pitfalls?
10:46We've never actually laid Light No Floor in before, but we think we're going to figure it out.
10:50Right.
10:51So, clearly dancing and performing are subjects close to your heart.
10:54Is that why you've really leaned into that for the subject?
10:57I think so. I think dancing has been a part of our lives, you know, for as long as we
11:01can remember really.
11:01It kind of like helped us through learning about who we are as people, our sexuality.
11:07Coming into a dance studio kind of felt like a safe space in our life.
11:10And at the time when I found dance particularly, I was going through so much.
11:13I lost my dad at the age of 16.
11:15So, it was kind of a time when I was dealing with so much trauma and change around me that
11:20a dance studio became like a safe space.
11:22So, I think the idea of creating that safe space here in the chateau is something that we'd be really
11:27proud to invite people in and go like, this is a safe space for you as well.
11:31Yeah.
11:31What does it mean to your family?
11:33It would mean so much to, yeah, our families.
11:37Yeah.
11:37It would be like a...
11:38Oh, God, I start crying, isn't it?
11:40Um, yeah, it would be life-changing.
11:43Yeah.
11:44Growing up with my mum, she had to sacrifice so much for me, my brother and sister.
11:50And, like, even though she's been through so many hard times, like, she's been, like, my little rock and my
11:54cheerleader.
11:55And, like, when I set up my business, she was, like, the one who helped me, like, set it all
11:59up.
12:00And, I don't know, she's been, like, probably, like, rock for us, hasn't she?
12:04Mm-hmm, yeah.
12:04She's been through a lot.
12:05It's emotional, isn't it, design?
12:07Yeah.
12:08Oh, you're giving me goosebumps.
12:09Get on with it.
12:12Oh, God.
12:14Do you want that?
12:15Yeah.
12:24Three pairs have reached the grand finale to win this incredible French property.
12:29For their first challenge, they're creating a space that can house an innovative chateau business.
12:34That's pretty good.
12:36Zav and Tash are planning a murder mystery experience to showcase their event business.
12:41Table.
12:43Paloma and Chris are creating a workshop for artistic pursuits, and Josh and Josh, a wellness studio for retreats.
12:49Cool.
12:50Happy with them.
12:50Yeah, fab.
12:51With much to get done, Tash and Chris are hitting the local brocante.
12:55Oh, my gosh, I love these.
12:57Perfect.
13:03One, two.
13:05Looking for something impressionist style to go with the traditions of Normandy.
13:10That's nice.
13:11These are quite nice, all this stuff.
13:13Just need a price on them.
13:17Perfect.
13:18I think I'm going to choose this one, because it's really beautiful.
13:22I've set aside 80 euro in the budget to get some sort of shelving unit, and this is 70, so
13:28it's within my budget, so I'm happy.
13:30I'm looking for something that can hold a lot of storage for the workshop.
13:34There's two ways we can do this, with maybe two armoires next to each other.
13:38But I have seen this, which is a bit of a curveball, which looks really beautiful.
13:43Looks like it's got lots of craftsmanship to it.
13:45I think we have three metres to work with, and this is 220, so it could actually work.
13:53We've actually got a very strict budget this time.
13:56There is literally a maximum spend against every single item.
13:59So I have to make sure today that I come in under that.
14:01Otherwise, can't be no money left.
14:04I need some books.
14:06Perfect.
14:09Pearls.
14:10It needs to be hidden on the murderer.
14:15I've ticked almost everything off my list now.
14:17I've been shopping with laser focus today, and I'm sticking to my list, and I'm sticking to my budget,
14:23and I know that I'm going to go back with, like, almost everything we need.
14:27So I'm really pleased.
14:28Really good.
14:30$1.95.
14:31Way under budget.
14:32Very happy.
14:35I'm very happy with that.
14:38Okay, au revoir.
14:46Back at the Chateau.
14:48Got a lot of panelling to do.
14:50That's good.
14:50A lot of panelling to do, but it's fine.
14:52Got 120 to do.
14:53To be at the job, so, yeah.
14:55Josh and Josh begin work on their statement studio wall.
14:58How are we going to get that straight?
15:00Yeah, that's not great, that these pieces are down straight.
15:02I think they're going to be a nightmare, these.
15:05I think we'll just get them on.
15:08And do we think they look straight?
15:11Wow.
15:11Josh, do they look straight to the eye?
15:14Yeah.
15:14Yeah, they're good.
15:15Just keep doing that, what you're doing.
15:18Just do it.
15:20I don't have as many hands as I'd quite like.
15:23Out in the workshop, Paloma is working on a modular table system
15:27that can be used for a cider-making experience.
15:30This is going to be the modular system.
15:32So we're going to have four tables made up of two pallets.
15:35There'll be one pallet at the top as our work table,
15:38and then another one underneath.
15:40That's going to act as a storage shelf.
15:45And some of the tables are going to have a big hole
15:48with a lid on it, basically.
15:50So when we want to mulch the apples,
15:52they go straight through into the bucket.
15:57Sam?
15:57As Tash returns with everything on her list...
16:00It was two, three, five.
16:02Blimey.
16:02Lots of budget left still.
16:03What are we going to spend the rest of it on?
16:04I don't know, but we can brainstorm that, can't we?
16:06We can get back down the brock on.
16:08Bonjour.
16:08Chris has found a man with a barrel online.
16:12Tunnel?
16:12I don't know.
16:13Tunnel, oui.
16:17OK, look at these.
16:19Wow.
16:20These are really cool.
16:20As long as they keep their rigidity when we pick them up,
16:23then they're perfect.
16:25Poffee.
16:29Shall we go straight in?
16:30All right.
16:31There's one.
16:32This one is slightly bigger.
16:36There's enough bottles for our first batch of cider.
16:41Merci.
16:42Thank you very much.
16:43OK.
16:44Au revoir.
16:44All right.
16:49I think we'll keep it dark down here.
16:51OK.
16:51And then we'll keep it the lighter colours on top.
16:54Hey, you two.
16:55Hello.
16:56How does it feel to be back?
16:57Like coming home.
16:59Emotional.
16:59Was it emotional?
17:01Yeah.
17:01Does it feel like a reality now?
17:03A quarter of a million pounds is at stake.
17:05Yeah.
17:06I think we've had time to think about it, obviously, and picture ourselves here and our family.
17:11So, yeah, it's definitely feeling, like, really real now, isn't it?
17:14What about the kids?
17:15Did you tell them?
17:16No.
17:16She thinks she's going to live in a castle, Max.
17:18Might not have been the best idea.
17:20No pressure, then.
17:21You've told your daughter she might become a princess in her chateau.
17:25Yes.
17:26You best make this good, then, right?
17:28Just tell me the basic layout of the room.
17:30I'm going to go for a big banquet table down the middle and some furniture around the outside
17:35with some hidden surprise elements along the way.
17:39Of course.
17:39It's murder mystery.
17:40You can't tell me everything, can you?
17:42No, we can't.
17:43No.
17:43Lots of, like, little surprises hidden.
17:45Now, what about the DIY skills?
17:47We want to show a little bit of consideration, shall we say, in our design.
17:52Yeah.
17:53So, just do things on a slightly better level than we did before.
17:57There's a little bit of-
17:58Refinement.
17:58Refinement, exactly that.
17:59Finishes.
18:01Finishes.
18:02Sanding.
18:02You're spoiling me.
18:03You're going to sand the bits of wood that you cut this time.
18:06So, you've briefly met the competition.
18:08What do you think?
18:09Having spent some time talking to them, it sounds like they maybe had a few more wins than
18:14us.
18:15I think we're the underdogs at that point.
18:17So, we are the underdogs coming into this.
18:20But that doesn't mean we're not going to throw our absolute all at it.
18:24Tash and Xavier seem to think they're underdogs, having met the other pairs.
18:27But they absolutely deserve to be here.
18:30Some of the ingenuity, the problem solving, the carpentry they showed in that heat was fantastic.
18:35And I can't wait to see what they come up with this time.
18:41As Josh finishes up the paintwork in their studio, Chris is only just returning from
18:46the shops.
18:47I'm a bit apprehensive about seeing the barrels.
18:50They were very cheap.
18:52And that normally means there's something quite wrong with them.
18:59I hope he's got something good for us.
19:03Oh, my God.
19:05I think they need a good clean.
19:06They need a very good clean.
19:08They've been stored for many years in that cupboard, I think.
19:10Okay.
19:11It's just like they're not too cheap for any reason.
19:23And these artworks, they're very good for the tapestry style.
19:27That's really, really cool.
19:27And this is our Impressionist painting.
19:30As we know, Impressionism was worn in Normandy.
19:33Wow.
19:33Love it.
19:34Spend 40 on the armoires compared to 80.
19:38And we haven't got a ladder.
19:39Got two armoires?
19:39No, got one.
19:40Okay.
19:40But it's massive.
19:41How heavy is it?
19:42I haven't been able to lift it, yeah, by myself.
19:45I need your help.
19:46Guns, McGee.
19:46Okay.
19:47What's that?
19:48Have you just done that?
19:49No.
19:51What is it?
19:56It is.
19:57It's you with them.
19:58That's what it is.
19:58Oh, have I touched it?
19:59Yeah, it is.
20:01God, that's going to need...
20:02I'm going to need rolling over that again.
20:04What, is it scratch?
20:05No, it's just because it's gone like that.
20:07It's fitting.
20:10Wait, that's shorter at the bottom.
20:11Oops.
20:12That needs to come out the wall and go back in.
20:15Ha-ha-ha.
20:16Oopsie.
20:17Literally, I've got my eyes on him.
20:19Eyes on the prize.
20:24Whilst Chris and Paloma's attention turns to their lighting...
20:27Okay.
20:28You need to be able to tuck two chairs comfortably in
20:31without butting into the legs.
20:33Xavier's eager to get the measurements for his table legs spot on.
20:37Okay.
20:37Okay.
20:38So, legs and feet, yeah?
20:40Tucked in.
20:40Oh, feet.
20:41Yeah?
20:43So, about...
20:44So, it's just the length of your femur.
20:47It's about 40.
20:48Leave a bit of room, please.
20:5050.
20:51Yeah, so I've already got them at 55.
20:53Anyway, get those calves in.
20:54Woo!
20:58Xavier is...
20:59He's always fun to work with, let's put it that way.
21:03No, we always work things out in, like, silly ways.
21:06But it does tend to work.
21:08There's method in the madness.
21:10You know?
21:11Hopefully it will work and the table will be very comfortable to sit at.
21:20I'm going to run a clear wire from this side all the way across and zigzag it.
21:29And then we can hang individual things from them.
21:34It doesn't have to be the finished product right now.
21:36We just want to make sure it works, don't we?
21:38We wanted to get everything up before we painted the floor, right?
21:41Ideally.
21:42Yeah.
21:43Straight.
21:44It's the wrong way.
21:45What do you mean?
21:46It's bigger at the top than it is the bottom.
21:49Minutely.
21:50It looks weird.
21:51I'm being quite negative today.
21:56Knock, knock.
21:57Hello.
21:58Hello, hello.
21:59You two cracking on already.
22:01It's being a little bit slow, actually, but...
22:04So what's the plan for this room?
22:06So we are going to be doing a workshop space,
22:10somewhere that we can host different day workshops.
22:14So we are going to be using apples from the orchard to press and mulch our own cider.
22:20And that would be our business plan, would be that we can create products from Chateau La Belle Pomme
22:26and make it something that people want to give a visit us for.
22:30What would you call it?
22:31Chateau La Belle Pomme.
22:33Oh.
22:34Pretty Apple.
22:35The Pretty Apple.
22:35The Pretty Apple Chateau.
22:37Oh, that's giving me goosebumps.
22:39So you've met the other pairs now.
22:41What do you think?
22:41Strong competition?
22:42I mean, they're going to have to do well to beat us, so go down if they can, right?
22:47Fighting it all.
22:48I like it.
22:49Right.
22:50Good luck.
22:51Thank you so much.
22:54Isn't it fascinating that the same brief and yet all three pairs have got completely different ideas for their business?
23:00What I do know is they've all got what it takes to win this Chateau.
23:05With a few moments left before downing tools, Zav is applying the finishing touches to his table.
23:11It needs a couple of coats of this to seal it, make it food safe.
23:15And I'm very pleased with how this is turning out.
23:17I think it's very pretty.
23:19I think we're in quite a good place at the moment.
23:22The vision is coming to life, isn't it?
23:25Yeah, it's starting to.
23:26This is definitely better than the last thing I made in this workshop.
23:34It's a new day at the Chateau and the pairs are eager to crack on with their to-do lists.
23:38Oh, the floor's arrived.
23:41Shall we go and get it?
23:41Yeah.
23:42That's sideboard.
23:43There's the table from yesterday.
23:45Okay.
23:46What's happened to it?
23:50Oh, dear.
23:52Oh, right.
23:54I'm very humid.
24:07Three pairs of DIY enthusiasts have returned to France in the hope of winning this phenomenal property.
24:15Each pair is working on their Chateau business design.
24:18They've had a poo party out there.
24:20I've got some soap.
24:21We're actually serving pigeon at our murder mystery night.
24:25The stakes are high as at the end of the week the rooms will be judged and one pair of
24:30finalists will be going home.
24:32I like it.
24:33Yeah, it's nice.
24:34They've been so kind overnight as to do a bit of a Jackson Pollock on my wonderful table that I
24:40spent all day standing down and varnishing.
24:44You get on with the sideboard.
24:52We turn it around.
24:54Looks like Tasha's managed to get the worst of it off.
24:57So, I thought I was having a break from the kids, but it turns out I'm still just wiping up
25:01poo.
25:02So, I guess this is my destiny.
25:06Price is averted.
25:08Zav resumes work on his sideboard.
25:10Whilst Chris is attempting an upcycling hack with some glass jars he found at the Bracante.
25:15So, we are going to attempt, and I say attempt, to turn this into a stone effect jar using bicarbonate
25:22of soda.
25:24It gives a bit of grit to the actual paint.
25:27It's got really good coverage.
25:30Look at that.
25:31That, to me, looks like it's made of stone.
25:35So, I think, I think we're on to a winner.
25:39Whilst Tash continues colour-drenching their space...
25:42Right, should we get sticking?
25:43...Josh and Josh have lined up their flooring.
25:46Now all that's left is to glue it down.
25:48You like that? Yeah.
25:50Try and let's get it on the wall, Josh.
25:52Is it lined up there?
25:54It's not lined up.
25:54It's dodgy. It's like that wallpaper that we've got this time.
25:56Well, it's because it's quite stretchy in it, so.
25:58We're just squeezing the mats together.
26:00I mean, the pattern matches it up.
26:02Whether the glue makes them stick, who knows, but it looks good to me.
26:06I think that's all right, Josh.
26:08I think we should crack on and then see how it sticks,
26:11because we've not really left it a lot of time.
26:20What are you doing?
26:26Where? Go on.
26:26It needs to be pulled that way, slightly.
26:29Come back down.
26:30It needs to be pushed again.
26:32Push it slightly.
26:33Push it to you?
26:34No, that way.
26:35Slightly.
26:35Slightly.
26:37Literally.
26:38Not even an inch.
26:39About to start.
26:40We're definitely not in charge.
26:42I'm the apprentice and I'm fine with that.
26:44I have my moments.
26:46This is not the moment.
26:48Like that, yeah?
26:49Yeah.
26:55Definitely a little bit worrying.
26:57Not knowing if going a bit more rustic this time is going to fall out of our favour.
27:05But it's really in keeping with our grief.
27:08Definitely the stakes are high.
27:10Everybody really wants this.
27:11This would be life-changing for everyone.
27:21Whoa.
27:24Ta-da!
27:26Oh, my God.
27:26I can't go on my knees anymore.
27:28Do you want to turn that round then and get that ready whilst I'm just doing this instead
27:31of watching?
27:32Okay, girl.
27:33Kind of feel like I'm doing surgery.
27:36Zav and Tash are applying wallpaper to their newly panelled walls.
27:40This looks so good.
27:43And Chris and Paloma's unit has arrived.
27:45Hold on.
27:46Though Paloma has some concerns.
27:49It's actually from there.
27:51Why's it got to be from there?
27:52For the turning point.
27:55Yeah, I don't want to think if it's that one.
27:56But why's it got to be that one?
27:57I reckon we just try.
28:01How did you get it in here?
28:02Very easy.
28:03Just picked it up.
28:05That is heavy.
28:08Hang on.
28:09Are you all right to get us help with the scale, is it?
28:11Yeah, yeah.
28:11Is it quite large?
28:12Josh, they definitely need two.
28:14No.
28:18Where's Paloma?
28:19She was just standing there.
28:20I didn't know.
28:21Is she underneath?
28:22Yeah.
28:24All right.
28:24Ready?
28:25Just that one.
28:26Yeah.
28:26Yeah, go on.
28:27We can go down, down, down, down.
28:30Legends, thank you very much.
28:33Thank you, lad.
28:34It does.
28:34We did the measurements.
28:35It might fit.
28:36We need more help.
28:38Just let us know.
28:45Okay, keep going, keep going, keep going.
28:46And put it down when you're ready.
28:50Do you want me to help you lift?
28:51It's very heavy.
28:53I don't think I can do from the bottom.
28:55I mean, I'm not very strong, but an extra pair of hands
28:58is an extra pair of hands, isn't it?
29:00You okay?
29:00Yeah, all good.
29:03All right, wait.
29:08I am not convinced this is going to...
29:10No, it doesn't look very good right now, does it?
29:13No.
29:14Okay.
29:15It's not.
29:16We're going to have to dismantle.
29:20Hang on.
29:23Okay.
29:27Thanks for trying.
29:33There.
29:34One.
29:36Sideboard.
29:37Doesn't she look pretty?
29:39My mum's been sending us links to chateaus for years,
29:42like I said the other day,
29:43and I've actually got a key ring that she gave me
29:45many, many moons ago
29:48that says French Chateau on it.
29:49It's wild being this close to something we've been dreaming about for so long.
30:00Yeah? Like that?
30:02Just designing a header for our panelled wall.
30:05We're going to create, like, a wavy kind of effect
30:08over the top of the wooden slats.
30:14Oh, it snapped.
30:16So...
30:17We don't need that anyway.
30:22Gorgeous!
30:25Oh!
30:34All the way to the ceiling?
30:35All the way to the ceiling.
30:43Yeah?
30:44That's good.
30:45Another one of Zav's wacky contractions.
30:49Like that.
30:51Like that.
30:52And that is a false floor and a cabinet.
30:55You can just hide little clues in here
30:57that they've got to work out
30:59that there's something going on with this cabinet.
31:02OK, ready?
31:03Yeah.
31:06Told you so.
31:08Oh, less of that!
31:12So it's basically just an old-fashioned flatback piece.
31:15As another day draws to a close,
31:17all is not what it seems with Chris and Paloma's new unit.
31:20It's literally just modern flatback.
31:23I made a booboo.
31:25It's fronted like it was made 200 years ago, wasn't it?
31:30It's been a challenging day with a lot of setbacks.
31:36We'd like to announce we're going our separate ways.
31:40And it's because of the sideboard.
31:42It's done.
31:43Well, that looks really good, actually, doesn't it?
31:45Well done.
31:46Can we be friends again?
31:49I think I'm quite tired.
31:51It's mid-challenge.
31:53I think I need a good night's sleep
31:55and I feel a bit more positive about everything tomorrow.
31:59As a new day dawns in the chateau,
32:02the teams resume their work renovating their business spaces.
32:07Ta-da!
32:09It's looking quite good, hey?
32:11Can you grab a tape measure, please?
32:12Yes.
32:15There we go.
32:15We are building a sort of console table bench
32:19out of these concrete blocks.
32:21We'll be building a house next.
32:23Yeah.
32:24But it wouldn't be a renovation challenge at the chateau
32:27without a little surprise from me.
32:30Teams, can I gather you outside, please?
32:33Oh, here we go.
32:35Let's go.
32:40Hello.
32:41Hello.
32:42Fancy seeing you here.
32:45You know me well enough by now
32:47to know I wasn't going to let you get away
32:49without another petite challenge.
32:50Come on, to the workshop.
32:53Here we go.
32:54Nearly.
33:05Oh, I don't want to see.
33:10That chair dusty.
33:12Lucky as it is, can we just leave it?
33:15Ooh.
33:16Quite like it.
33:17I don't want that chair in my room.
33:19What are we going to do with that?
33:21Rip it to pieces.
33:26Welcome to a supersized grand finale petite challenge.
33:30I set these petite challenges to test your ability to act quickly
33:34and think on the spot while working under pressure.
33:37All of which are necessary skills to run a chateau in France.
33:41Today, I want you to upcycle a piece of vintage furniture.
33:47I've provided each of you with a chair
33:49found around many a French dining table.
33:52But I want you to transform it into something suitable for your business room.
33:57Hmm.
33:59You have two hours to complete the challenge.
34:02When the time is up, I'll select one design as the winner.
34:05For one of you, this will be your final petite challenge.
34:10Everything you need is in the workshop.
34:11Your time starts now.
34:18Grab whatever one you like.
34:20Oh, I remember this one.
34:21Glitter.
34:22Leave that then.
34:24OK.
34:29It's actually a really good colour scheme, colour match.
34:32Yeah, it's not terrible.
34:33No, it's not.
34:33A couple of ideas.
34:35One is to convert that into a stool for the workshop.
34:38Mm-hm.
34:38Could be an easel as well.
34:40So...
34:41We actually wanted to buy a small sort of kneeling stool
34:44that could be used as a meditation stool
34:46and we couldn't afford one.
34:48So actually, this is perfect.
34:49This is the perfect challenge because we can actually make it really usable.
34:53We're keeping it as a chair.
34:54We're keeping it as a chair.
34:55I mean, it goes perfectly for our room.
34:57We actually probably needed something to rest our trunk on,
35:00so it will be perfect.
35:01We're gonna go for stool.
35:03Sacrilege.
35:04We love vintage pieces,
35:06so it is a bit strange to be actually hacking it up,
35:08but we had good practice with that yesterday with the armour,
35:10and we put it back together quite well.
35:16Should we get going on shaping it?
35:18You want to do that, and I'll stand down the chair.
35:25What is it?
35:26The wasp.
35:31Ooh!
35:32Where is it?
35:34There's a wasp chasing me.
35:35He's gone.
35:38I'm terrified of wasps.
35:40Wasps and rats.
35:41No, not for me.
35:45Oh, my God.
35:47No, what is it doing?
35:49We're going to paint the chair blue to go with our colour scheme.
35:53That is very blue.
35:54I think we should maybe paint the chair in the lighter blue.
35:57I'm gonna open it.
35:58No, I don't like that.
36:00Is it even?
36:01Is it?
36:02Yeah, of course it is.
36:03Do you mean, is it even?
36:05Even Stephen?
36:05Okay, that's good.
36:05Yeah.
36:07We're gonna make a little table easel.
36:11So he is in the back of the chair.
36:13I've taken these pieces off it, and we're gonna have a hinge here.
36:18Do you want to use that one?
36:19Yeah.
36:19Or another one?
36:19To make two?
36:20I think so.
36:21Do it like that, wouldn't we?
36:22And then we'd cut all these bits off.
36:23Okay.
36:24We have to drill it together.
36:27Very time conscious.
36:28I know that the time disappears in these challenges.
36:33Trying to work to efficiency this week.
36:35That's been the theme of the week.
36:38Might have a little break from what we're doing.
36:41We do want to win now, because we haven't actually won one yet.
36:43Yeah, it would be nice.
36:48You just don't stop.
36:50Didn't even see you though.
36:51So what have we got?
36:52We've obviously chopped the legs off.
36:54We've got rid of the back of the chair.
36:56And this is going to become a meditation stool.
37:00Then this was the back of the chair.
37:02And our idea is to make a second stool.
37:05I'm actually really pleased to see you're making something like this.
37:07Because my favourite thing to do when I go for a workout in a studio...
37:11Is just sit down.
37:12Sit down.
37:12Me too.
37:13He does the workout and I'm like...
37:15So that can be your stool, just to sit and observe.
37:17Fantastic.
37:18Thank you for that very thoughtful gift.
37:22Are you happy with that?
37:24Yeah.
37:25Are you happy with that?
37:29Delightful.
37:32So these are the stencils we've laser engraved.
37:35And we've got a few different sized checkerboards.
37:39Normandy architecture uses a lot of the burgundy, maroony checkerboards.
37:43It's an element we're adding to our room.
37:45So if we can tie it into the chair, it'll look good if we can pull it off.
37:51Oh no, whoops.
37:53Savvy, eh?
37:58Ooh, it looks pretty.
38:00You like it?
38:00Yeah, happy.
38:01Yeah, it's a good one.
38:02No time to sit around everybody.
38:04You've used up half of your time.
38:07You have 60 minutes left.
38:10Where's the pliers gone?
38:16I don't love reupholstery, but, you know, it's got to be done, hasn't it?
38:21You get better at each time you do it with these things, so...
38:25Do corners, and then we'll pull it tighter at the end.
38:28Start middle, middle, middle, middle, and then you start...
38:31How are you getting on with that? Do you want to jump on with it?
38:33No, I'm having a bit of a mare, so...
38:36We're going to have to...
38:41I've never seen you two work so fast.
38:43How's it going?
38:44We've changed people, Max.
38:46You really are, so focused and determined.
38:48Yeah.
38:49Yeah, we know what we're doing these days.
38:50We have a plan these days.
38:51Do you? Would you like to tell me your plan?
38:52We are going to keep it as a chair.
38:54Ooh.
38:54But we're going to make it a chair that's going to fit in with our theme,
38:58so we're going to have it as more of a decorative chair in the corner,
39:01so we're making a cushion,
39:03and we're going to be painting it to match our room colours.
39:05Great.
39:06So you can show off your upholstery skills as well.
39:08Exactly.
39:08Is that something you've done before?
39:10Yes.
39:10I haven't done it on, like, a grand scale before,
39:12but I have tried it.
39:14Just so you know, Zav was shaking his head in the other direction.
39:17I haven't done dining chairs before,
39:20but I think I can apply the same thing and it will be fine.
39:22Great.
39:23Look forward to seeing it.
39:25Right.
39:26Foam.
39:27Don't put your feet up just yet.
39:29You've only got half an hour left.
39:32Right.
39:33OK.
39:33We've got this.
39:35Wasn't the plan to wrap it round the bottom?
39:37No, it wasn't, no.
39:38It's to go on top.
39:40OK.
39:42OK.
39:42I can do the rest.
39:43Right.
39:44Perfect.
39:46We are using emulsion from our room.
39:48I'm hoping it's going to stick.
39:50I really need to find a second paintbrush,
39:52but the only one that I could find is covered in bird poop.
40:04Trauma.
40:06It's basically what my mum does for a living is this,
40:09but I've never even...
40:09I've watched her do it a million times,
40:11but never shown any interest.
40:12You might want to sit down for this.
40:14You only have five minutes to finish your creations.
40:17Quick, quick, quick, quick, quick, quick.
40:21Josh, go. Sand it.
40:22Off the leg.
40:22You're going to need to get your mask on.
40:23No, it's fine. Just do it.
40:24I'm going to get your mask on.
40:25Just do it.
40:31Fold it on each side, and then just go bloop, bloop, bloop,
40:34and then put it on.
40:35You reckon?
40:35Yeah.
40:36Try and get the edges really tight.
40:39They are already.
40:40Thanks very much.
40:41Honestly.
40:42OK.
40:46All right, that works well, actually.
40:50OK.
40:51Yeah?
40:51Yeah?
40:52Yeah?
40:53Yeah?
40:53Yeah?
40:54Yeah.
41:02Time's up.
41:04That's it.
41:05I smashed it.
41:07Step away from your chairs.
41:09It's time to present your work.
41:12Oh, God, I haven't got yourself floating.
41:16Amazing work, everyone.
41:18You've really, really raised the bar.
41:20Just goes to show how much you all really want this prize.
41:24With the petite challenge complete, it's time to take a closer look.
41:29So when you walked around the corner and saw chairs were the challenge,
41:32you rubbed your hands together.
41:33There's always room for chairs in our room.
41:36We're going to use this one in the corner as more of a decorative piece.
41:39So do we think the size and proportion of the pad is correct?
41:43Well, I actually kind of did that on purpose.
41:45It's removable, so you can change the colour scheme any time you like.
41:49Like so.
41:50Painted underneath as well.
41:52You didn't see that bit.
41:53Let's do that again, Sam.
41:54Damn it!
41:56And Tash, I know you spent a long time with the gilding.
41:59Is that your thing?
41:59Oh, yeah.
42:00I love a bit of gold.
42:01Bit of bling.
42:02I love it.
42:05Team Josh.
42:06Hello.
42:07To turn a very traditional-looking dining chair
42:10into some quite contemporary-looking stools.
42:13You must be quite happy with that.
42:14Yeah, really, really happy with how they've turned out.
42:16It was on our shopping list, actually, to find a stool.
42:18So we were really happy that we could use that
42:20without spending any more of our budget.
42:21I think the obvious way to upholster these chairs
42:24would be to remove the seat fob itself,
42:26staple gun that on the back and plonk it back in.
42:28We've made quite an intricate design here.
42:30Yeah.
42:30Yeah, it's a lot more challenging to expose the legs
42:33and, like, fold the fabric round the corners,
42:35getting that nice and tight without being able to see the seams.
42:37I think it's good, showing technique.
42:38I think a lot of people, given the time constraints
42:40and the fact they're in the grand finale
42:42with a quarter of a million pound at stake,
42:45might have gone for the easier route.
42:46Yeah.
42:46Always brave you two.
42:48Now's the time.
42:49Great stuff.
42:49They look fantastic.
42:59Paloma and Chris, bonjour.
43:00Bonjour.
43:01I love how your brain works, Paloma.
43:04How did you see an easel out of a dining chair?
43:07It was actually Chris's idea this time.
43:09Yeah, I think Paloma's actually rubbing off on me a bit
43:11because it was my idea.
43:12She did it, though, of course.
43:13Yes.
43:14Now, talk to me about the stenciling.
43:16The checkerboard that you see a lot around the region
43:18on the architecture, fleur-de-lis and flax flowers on the front.
43:22Nice.
43:22And you've stenciled that onto the front of the stool?
43:24Yeah.
43:25Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but when that's facing the easel, you won't see the stencil,
43:31you'll see the back.
43:33Yeah, that's true.
43:36I mean, I don't think about this too much.
43:39Right.
43:40Just to be clear.
43:41With two hours, I think that's a great job.
43:43Thank you so much.
43:47All of you should be very proud of your designs,
43:50but also the progress you've made since we first saw you here.
43:54I think all of your items are going to look fantastic in your rooms.
43:57But the winner for today's petite challenge is...
44:06Josh and Josh.
44:12Right, no time to sit around.
44:14You've got lots of work to do.
44:15Take your chairs back to your rooms.
44:19I actually really enjoyed that one.
44:20Yeah, it was fun.
44:21I feel super proud that we managed to turn it into two items
44:23that we actually really wanted in the space.
44:27It's a shame we didn't win.
44:28We haven't won a petite challenge, yeah.
44:30But I think the main thing is we've made something
44:32that we genuinely would use in our room.
44:35We're not going to let it get us down.
44:38I had an opportunity to practice some reupholstery,
44:40so now when you go in there and do the other ten chairs...
44:44I'll put the backing fabric on.
44:46Yeah, put the backing fabric on and know what we're doing.
44:48I'm just going with it a bit more.
44:51Next time...
44:52This has actually made me really nervous.
44:54I don't know why.
44:55The teams pull out all the stops...
44:57Absolute madness.
44:58Oh, yes.
44:59To get their business ideas off the ground.
45:02Ooh, X marks the spot.
45:03But whose will be built to last...
45:05That is wider than the back.
45:07I told you this.
45:07I did not want to be in this state.
45:10And whose will get shut down...
45:11For one pair, the dream ends here.
45:19Bye-bye...
45:20The one pair, the dream ends here...
45:22By the way, the dream ends,
45:43where our dream ends and the time...
45:44As we maintain this ground, our dream ends here.
45:46Do not know whether it's demolished.
