00:13Avanti baby
00:20You are now the Bruce Willis of your generation with more hair.
00:25Do you think that that's your secret? More hair? Or not?
00:31Yes, I feel like, to be honest, I feel like Bruce Willis is a much better action hero than I
00:42was, but I can say that I win in the hair stakes.
00:47Did you ever dream of being an astronaut when you were a kid or not?
00:51Yes, I did. It was an astronaut and a fighter pilot and an actor, actually. I always wanted to be
00:58an actor. Funnily enough, I wanted to be an actor playing an astronaut.
01:05And then you did it. And then I did. So now I'm announcing my retirement. I'm done. I've reached the
01:13climax, the pinnacle of my career.
01:16No, I did always want to be an astronaut and having the opportunity to pretend to go up into space.
01:24But we filmed at NASA. So we were surrounded by all the space equipment and space shuttles.
01:29And right next to the fuel tank that's just been built that's going to take the first manned mission to
01:36Mars. I mean, it's the size of this hotel. It's mind blowing.
01:39And all the sets that we built that were literally just for me up at the space station were larger
01:46than a spacecraft carrier. These five sound stages with nine huge sets.
01:50So I felt like I really did have the opportunity to go up into space, get on wires and flying
01:56around. And it was incredible.
01:58An interesting aspect of movies set in space is that when you are up there, you have the full picture
02:06of everything, of yourself, of the world, of humanity.
02:10Do you film sometimes the same way? Do you have to decompress and say, just a moment, I have to
02:16see the full picture?
02:19I don't know if that crossed my mind. No, because I wasn't really, if I'd had a view of Earth,
02:25of the planet.
02:25However, when I did, when I started seeing the visual effects, that, that started, not when I was filming, because
02:31we were still in sound stages.
02:35But when towards the end of filming, when some of the visual effects started coming through, and you could see
02:41the planet Earth, where we were looking from.
02:43So for instance, we filmed in the satellite docking bay, or the shuttle docking bay, the satellite retrieval bay.
02:51And from there, you could literally see us passing over there. Then you do start to get that sense of
02:57humanity, everything that's ever happened being contained in this shell.
03:00And also the fact that that's what you're trying to save. And it's almost too big to comprehend.
03:07About saving people, you are becoming a specialist of doing it. But you do sometimes, and a specialist of happy
03:15endings, without giving spoilers, do you feel sometimes that it would be better to just say, screw you humanity, you
03:23don't deserve to be saved?
03:25Especially by me.
03:27Especially by me.
03:28Well, not everybody is saved, by the way. So you could say, you know, it's still, there's still a rather
03:37large toll of casualties in this.
03:39But I think, maybe not in this movie, but it would be interesting to see a movie where the person
03:45does say, no, why?
03:48Yes.
03:48We did this to ourselves. Why are we, like, let us actually maybe pay the price.
03:53Of course, it would be another, perhaps slightly more original storyline to go down. But you have studios making these
04:01movies.
04:01And you try and say that to a studio, I want to play a character, right? And at the end
04:05he says, no. And everybody dies.
04:07Yes.
04:08And the studio would be like, we are not making that movie. You want to put $140 million into that
04:13movie, you do it. But it would be very brave.
04:15Let's see, let's see what I can do. In the movie, you use a code with your younger brother. So
04:24if I say, the cat is on the table, the dog is eating it.
04:29What do you understand?
04:32If you say the cat is on the table and the dog is eating it, what does this have to
04:37do with the younger brother?
04:37The code, the code you use with your younger brother.
04:40Oh, if they say the cat is on the table and the dog is eating it. Oh, oh, I see.
04:44That means, meet me at the airport in 45 minutes, we got to go, the government are after us.
04:51Yes.
04:51Is that what it means?
04:52Yeah, pretty the same.
04:53Yeah.
04:55Either that or I'm hungry and I would love a cup of coffee.
04:58Okay.
04:59What does it mean to you?
05:00Let's see, at the airport was an interesting part.
05:03Okay.
05:03But you and me, yes.
05:06Not the dog.
05:08Okay.
05:09Thank you.
05:09Thank you very much.
05:11Thank you very much.
05:11Okay.
