00:03it is a tradition i think it developed in the midwest i mean i just think it's been
00:07ingrained now over the last i'd say probably 20 years it's a tradition and you're not taking that
00:14away from me so gentlemen what are your favorite nfl traditions that's a good question i don't know
00:25i don't know what traditions there are perhaps we should better define what we mean by a tradition
00:34i think a tradition stands the test of time
00:41whereas a fad is something i think that comes and goes
00:47now that we have that cleared up let's hear your thoughts collisions by far a serious tradition
00:55i love the traditions of the the colts and the ravens love the band
01:02i guess the opening kickoff of the super bowl and the flash bulbs that's becoming tradition
01:06come to think of it the nfl is chock full of traditions but we've narrowed our list down
01:11to ten they want to show they're about to get one let's get started with something that's
01:17easy on the eyes
01:18the number 10 ffl tradition of all time
01:24who's your f**k attention to that you don't
01:28i don't even watch why not watching the game i don't care about the cheerleaders
01:31why not i mean they play an important role
01:37they are athletic eye candy
01:40smile
01:40they look good they're entertaining
01:44they're they're vivacious they smile when a team's losing by four touchdowns
01:49props
01:51i think we just enhance the intensity of the game
01:55number one everything except cheerleaders
01:57for no other reason than i'm a man
02:00god bless cheerleaders
02:01tv guys do a great job of
02:04turning the slow motion film of cheerleaders into a scene from bang watch
02:09i'm just going to start shooting cheerleaders
02:11that's all i'm going to shoot from now until the end of the game
02:14they're hot
02:15i mean you know it's a team of your who here among us hasn't paused
02:22in my younger days before i got married i used to get distracted by cheerleaders all the time
02:28stop looking at that cheerleaders man
02:30i've seen too many times cutaways on the sidelines and ball players are looking at a dance line
02:36you know they're kind of watching their leg kick and um who can blame us
02:42that's crazy
02:44birthed in baltimore the colts are credited with forming the league's first official cheerling
02:49birthed in baltimore what's new what's new about the nfl that didn't take place in baltimore
02:54squad in 1960 but what the colts started was later perfected in the lone star state
03:01when you think of nfl cheerleaders you automatically think of the dallas cowboys
03:06whether they invented it or not you think of the dallas cowboys and texas
03:11in 1972 the cowboys president and general manager recast dallas's cheerleaders into nfl icons
03:20he figured by adding a little sex appeal to this then that would even broaden the appeal of the nfl
03:27but not everyone was in favor of the cowboys new look cheerleaders
03:31when the cheerleaders came out the media asked tom landry what he thought
03:35he called them porn queens
03:37next day tex ram calls him up to his office
03:40says tom flip that switch over there will you
03:43and all of a sudden a film projector came up
03:45tom landry's eyes get like this
03:47he said tom that's a porn queen
03:50not our cheerleaders
03:54while the dallas cowboy cheerleaders may be a tradition unto themselves
03:58other squads are gaining ground
04:00coming up fast at the tampa bay buccanees
04:05i go tampa 1
04:08they're hot
04:09and not just because of tampa weather
04:11skins 2
04:14bangles maybe 3
04:15my vote goes to the raider s
04:17no doubt about it
04:19how do you have time to rank cheerleaders
04:24silver and black
04:27i know the boots
04:28they're a little too descriptive aren't i
04:31you know what
04:32the eagle's got the best
04:33in the red fight
04:36while ranking squads is best saved for another show
04:40our number 10 tradition would have certainly ranked higher on our list
04:43had cheerleaders still lived up to their namesake
04:46i mean are they going to actually get the crowd to respond and chant and cheer along with them
04:51absolutely not
04:53to the outcome of games
04:55they're not vital at all
04:57to the entertainment
04:58they're the most important thing there
05:00to me they're wholesome
05:01they're athletic
05:02and they're classy
05:04and that's why i put them in the top 10
05:05coming up on top 10
05:07we'll highlight a tradition
05:08who's on our list
05:10the number 9 nfl tradition of all time
05:13oakland's black hole
05:15yes
05:16when you come into the oakland college scene
05:18to play against the raiders
05:20you have to contend with the black hole
05:22welcome to hill
05:24you're going down baby
05:26you're going down
05:27insanity
05:29that's the only way i can describe it
05:31the black hole is a straight insanity
05:33those people are not human
05:36and they know it
05:37crush them baby
05:38crush them
05:39crush them
05:40black hole great tradition
05:42rabbit fans
05:44there's a fine line
05:45between being rabbit and being sick
05:50if the people of the black hole
05:51the good fine people of the black hole
05:53if they would like to be on the list
05:54they can be on any list they want
05:56because i'm not going to argue with them
05:57i remember the chiefs playing there one time
05:59and they're pelting the chiefs
06:01with these batteries
06:02golf balls
06:04which gets really nasty
06:08anchored in the south end zone
06:09of the coliseum
06:10the dark side of oakland's black hole
06:13can be traced back
06:14a long time ago
06:16to a galaxy far
06:17far away
06:18and it started with a guy wearing
06:20a dark big outfit
06:22and by him wearing that outfit
06:24a lot of the fans start wearing
06:25all black in that one section
06:27but it wasn't long before
06:30our number nine nfl tradition
06:32began to resemble a cantina
06:33on tatooine
06:35when the black hole first began
06:37it was more like a benign environment
06:40and then after a while
06:41they started to find different ways
06:43to stand up
06:44and like a visit to mos Eisley spaceport
06:47a trip to oakland's black hole
06:48can be fraught with danger
06:50for out of towners
06:52the black hole is
06:54how would i put this
06:56not nice to visitors
06:58as soon as the opposing team
06:59comes out of the tunnel
07:00they're on it
07:03they're on it
07:04during the pre-game warm-ups
07:09they're on it during the game
07:11they're on it
07:11after the game
07:12i'm tired of this place
07:14looks like a field trip to st clinton
07:17some people might go in there
07:18and might not come out
07:19if you're on an opposing team
07:20so if you're a chief
07:22or a bronco fan
07:24or a chargers fan
07:25i would advise to stay away
07:26from that place
07:28yes sir
07:31but win or lose
07:33oakland's black hole
07:34remains a constant source of support
07:36for the home team
07:38if l davis would be honest
07:39he would say thank god
07:41for the black hole
07:42because our fans
07:43needed something to do
07:45especially in the last
07:45six or seven years here
07:47to occupy their time
07:51and then his son
07:53his idiot bull cut son
07:55mark davis ruined it
07:57by moving the team
07:58to to vegas
08:00it should still
08:01be in oakland
08:02they belong in oakland
08:04the team hasn't been good
08:05for a long time
08:06and they still dress up
08:07like darth vader on steroids
08:09hey baby
08:10it's about pain
08:11it's a complete freak show
08:12but you know
08:13it's it's what they're trying for
08:14and it works
08:18the number eight nfl tradition
08:20of all time
08:21free game month
08:23it's like
08:24it's kind of like
08:25a battle cry
08:26for those guys
08:26you're about to go to war with
08:28you come in
08:28you bring it together
08:38it's a part of
08:39of the pre-game routine now
08:41and it's a
08:41it's motivational
08:43and inspirational
08:43in this great book i read
08:45a giant was defeated
08:46by one stone
08:47we are all together
08:48like the shiny new escalade
08:50somebody cut your grass road
08:52somebody burn it to your console
08:55when it comes to pre-game rumors
08:57it isn't always what's made
08:59said that man
09:06what did you say smooth
09:09pretty sure it's for smooth
09:11I need you
09:13you need me today
09:14let's keep touching each other
09:17let's make sure we feel each other
09:19let's make sure we smell each other's breath
09:23that's actually pretty gay
09:25and uh
09:28can we find him
09:32I'm all for
09:33someone huddling
09:35if you have something to say
09:39but let's not get into a routine
09:43used to be head coaches
09:45were the focal point
09:46of these pre-game pep talks
09:48it's a gleam
09:49do everything
09:50as good as you can
09:52and then a little bit more
09:53I always look at the coach
09:54to be the centerpiece
09:55he's the one
09:56leading these guys
09:57in the battle
09:59I'm the guy
09:59running the show
10:00I'm the guy
10:01that should be
10:02in the middle of the huddle
10:0330 men together
10:04can't lose
10:06let's get the gleam
10:08but as the years went by
10:10players began to take on
10:12a more vocal world
10:14I don't know the heritage of it
10:16but I think where it began
10:18was simply a matter of
10:19players initially will come out
10:21and kind of get into
10:21their own little groove
10:24these players are now
10:26using these opportunities
10:27to kind of make a name
10:28for themselves
10:31I sort of trace that
10:32to Ray Lewis
10:33with the Ravens
10:38Ray Lewis
10:39has to be one of the great
10:41huddle leaders
10:42of his generation
10:48when this guy goes
10:49to the Hall of Fame
10:50there will probably be
10:51equal parts footage
10:52of his tackles
10:53and equal parts footage
10:54of his pre-game
10:54psych-up huddles
10:55because this guy does it
10:56better than anybody
11:02these days
11:03it seems quantity
11:04trumps quality
11:05when it comes to
11:06our number 8
11:07NFL tradition
11:08you better start
11:09figuring in
11:10how much time
11:10you're allotting
11:11for these huddles
11:12in pre-game
11:12because there's a lot of them
11:14now you don't need
11:14to overdo that
11:16you don't need to have
11:17a million huddles
11:17before a game
11:18I think a lot of stuff
11:20like that in football
11:20is incredibly overwrought
11:26while the number
11:27of pre-game
11:28infinite
11:28there is something
11:30reassuring
11:31about these
11:31pre-game get-togethers
11:33when you see
11:34that raw emotion
11:35that's when we realize
11:37even though they're
11:37professional football
11:38players
11:39they want to win
11:40they need
11:41to be emotional
11:44when you see that
11:46you know
11:46that these guys
11:47are not just
11:47playing football
11:48for a paycheck
11:49they're playing football
11:49because they love the game
11:52coming up on top 10
11:53Joey Porter on the Dolphins
11:56and Lloyd Molloy
11:57on the Falcons
11:57still looks wrong
12:00what
12:01edition does
12:03just that
12:03the number 7
12:05NFL tradition
12:06of all time
12:07the flyover
12:08yes
12:11I love
12:12all flyovers
12:15I don't care
12:17Piper Cubs
12:18in formation
12:20helicopters
12:21crop dusters
12:23if it's a flyover
12:25by God
12:26what we're about
12:26to do is important
12:29it's the greatest thing
12:30ever
12:30the national anthem
12:31then our armed forces
12:34pretty good way
12:35to start the game
12:36you chills right now
12:38just thinking about it
12:38man
12:38come on
12:39there's a bomber
12:41is it going to come over
12:42the flyover
12:44could be the most exciting
12:455 seconds
12:46to flip on
12:47there's something about
12:48the sound
12:49you can feel
12:50those jets
12:51going over the top
12:54when it comes to
12:55the pre-game flyovers
12:56that is something
12:58that you can see
12:59it a hundred times
13:00and the hundredth time
13:01you see it
13:01it's impressive
13:07the scare
13:08before the game
13:08starts
13:09especially
13:09I don't know
13:09it's coming
13:16since its early inception
13:18pro football
13:19and aviation
13:20have been linked
13:21together
13:21but the spectacle
13:23of military flyovers
13:24commenced in 1968
13:25at Super Bowl II
13:26in Miami
13:28creating a tradition
13:29that continues
13:30to this day
13:31that's what I'm coming
13:33about
13:34it is the goose bump
13:35moment
13:35at an event
13:36like the Super Bowl
13:37when that flyover
13:38comes man
13:38oh it is just
13:39fantastic
13:40something else huh
13:43nothing better
13:44while many embrace
13:45the flyover
13:46as an NFL tradition
13:47for others
13:49it's an overplayed ritual
13:51I mean my biggest thing
13:52with the flyover now
13:53is that it happens
13:54so much
13:54so often
13:55it's just not
13:56cool anymore
13:57we could probably
13:59it could happen
14:00season opener
14:02playoff games
14:05that's about it
14:06cut our dependence
14:07on foreign oil
14:08by 50%
14:09if we just knocked
14:10the now mandatory
14:12NFL flyover
14:13in half
14:14I think it's something
14:15that can be overdone
14:16but you know
14:17I think if you pick
14:17and choose your
14:18your spots for it
14:19I think it could be
14:20very effective
14:23never was there
14:24a more appropriate
14:25time for our numbers
14:267 NFL tradition
14:27then following
14:29the terrorist attacks
14:30in September of 2001
14:31after September 11
14:33the Giants were coming
14:34into Arrowhead
14:35it was very emotional
14:36just because of the time
14:37and then we had
14:38the flower
14:39it just
14:39I don't know
14:40if there was a dry
14:40in there
14:41it's the one thing
14:43that for me
14:44makes me remember
14:45how remarkable
14:47this country is
14:49and to see
14:50the military might
14:52with 80,000
14:53screaming fans
14:54it is breathtaking
14:57I love it
14:58baby
14:59I love it
15:01the number 6
15:03NFL tradition
15:04of all time
15:05Pittsburgh's
15:06terrible towels
15:07on a cold day
15:09in Pittsburgh
15:10it's the Steelers
15:11and the terrible towels
15:12the table towel
15:13belong on the list
15:14of top 10 traditions
15:16you mean it's not
15:17number 1
15:18the terrible towel
15:20the terrible towel
15:22is the NFL
15:23it identifies you
15:25with a moment in time
15:27it's still curtain
15:28you think of the
15:29terrible towel
15:30you think of those
15:30great teams
15:31it's one of the
15:32greatest things in the
15:33history of the
15:33National Football League
15:34and it's more than
15:35just a gimmick
15:35we got the best
15:37offense
15:37the best defense
15:39and we got the
15:40terrible towel
15:41what more do we need
15:44you really want to know
15:45what Pittsburgh's all about
15:46just grab a terrible towel
15:48just take a whiff of it
15:49that's what Pittsburgh's all about
15:51look at those
15:53terrible towels
15:54they love it
15:55the terrible towel
15:56debuted in 1975
15:58Steelers announcer
16:00Myron Cope
16:01created the towel
16:02in hopes
16:02that it would
16:03soak up all opponents
16:05in its path
16:06it will possess
16:07terrible powers
16:08that will keep
16:09the opposition
16:10from being in the
16:11football game
16:12and the towel
16:13is out
16:13feel the power
16:14Myron
16:15oh I can feel
16:16that power
16:19I don't think
16:20another team
16:21has taken something
16:22like the terrible towel
16:24and been able
16:25to inspire their fans
16:26to use it long term
16:27from that standpoint
16:28the terrible towel
16:29really is one of a kind
16:30other teams have tried
16:31but no towel
16:33has sopped up success
16:34like the original
16:37terrible towel
16:38wasn't terribly original
16:41long time
16:42Dolphin fans
16:43might remind you
16:44that during their heyday
16:45in the early 70s
16:46they were actually
16:46the equivalent of that
16:48but they were white
16:49isn't that great
16:52I guess they stopped
16:53that because they
16:53realized it was corny
16:54so then Pittsburgh
16:55took it over
16:56but somehow
16:57it's not corny
16:57when the Steelers
16:58do it with the
16:58terrible towel
16:59and you know
16:59the Pittsburgh fans
17:00they're all manly men
17:01they just drink beer
17:03and you know
17:03they don't talk
17:04to their wives
17:05and they're just angry
17:09legend has it
17:10those who disparage
17:11the sacred cloth
17:12face grave consequences
17:14if you do something
17:16to the terrible towel
17:17it'll come back
17:18to bite you
17:18I believe
17:19I believe
17:19the Tennessee Titans
17:20got a sense of that
17:22thanks a lot
17:23yeah
17:23we gotta thank
17:24Wes Moore
17:25or something like that
17:26Mayor of Baltimore
17:27for doing
17:28something to
17:29the terrible towel
17:30then the Ravens
17:31lost that game
17:32and lost out
17:33in the playoffs
17:34thanks a lot
18:02then Carson
18:05Palmer's leg
18:06went up
18:07that was the year
18:09that the Steelers
18:09beat Cincinnati
18:10in the playoffs
18:11and Carson
18:12shredded his name
18:12Carson Palmer is down
18:14Carson Palmer
18:15is wriggling around
18:17that's deep
18:19maybe you should need
18:20the terrible towel
18:21alone
18:21as an opponent
18:28it's a whole
18:29just religion
18:30throwing that towel
18:31around
18:31God is on
18:32the Steelers
18:33side
18:33people don't
18:34realize this
18:35it's the 11th
18:36commandment
18:36thou shalt not
18:38disrespect
18:39the terrible towel
18:40it's in there
18:40check it
18:41check the book
18:44so does this
18:45shroud of
18:46southwestern
18:47Pennsylvania
18:47truly possess
18:49mystical powers
18:50the reason the
18:51terrible towel
18:52is so successful
18:53is because
18:54the Steelers
18:54win with it
18:55you know
18:56it'd be great
18:56if you had a terrible
18:57towel
18:57but if you lost
18:58every year
18:58then what
18:59you're crying
18:59into it
18:59who cares
19:00Steelers won
19:01more Super Bowls
19:02than anybody
19:02so until
19:03further notice
19:04terrible towel
19:05is magic

19:08commentary
19:09on the top
19:1010 NFL
19:11traditions
19:12I'd rather not
19:13talk about that
19:13can we
19:14number 5
19:15NFL tradition
19:16of all time
19:17kids are such
19:20big fans
19:21of the NFL
19:21it's about time
19:23we did a segment
19:24for them
19:24here on top 10
19:25hello to the kids
19:26how do you guys
19:27like the ball game
19:28so fun
19:30mascots
19:30are an NFL
19:31tradition
19:32kids can never
19:33get enough of
19:33problem is
19:35we didn't interview
19:35any kids
19:36for this show
19:37so instead
19:38here's what
19:39some grown-ups
19:39think
19:41mascots
19:41is a touchy
19:42subject
19:42I'd rather
19:43not talk
19:43about that
19:44does NFL
19:44have mascots
19:46mascots
19:47um
19:49wow
19:49I don't have
19:50a whole lot
19:50of strong
19:51feelings
19:53I don't even
19:54pay attention
19:54to the mascot
19:56mascots
19:57stumble on
19:57a football
19:58terrified
20:00they should be
20:01completely banned
20:02ok
20:03we get it
20:04but is there
20:04anything you like
20:06about mascots
20:07you got a mascot
20:08who's annoying
20:08people already
20:09you know the
20:10players hate them
20:11if somehow
20:12they get hit
20:13on a play
20:13I think
20:14everybody's
20:15smiling at home
20:20in the early
20:21days of the NFL
20:21having a live
20:23mascot
20:23was a smart
20:24choice
20:25I love dolphins
20:26I think they're
20:27the most intelligent
20:28mammal that there is
20:29every time that the
20:30dolphins scored a
20:31touchdown
20:31Flipper would
20:32dive up in the air
20:34and dive back
20:34into the tank
20:35and the crowd
20:36went wild
20:37sadly
20:38live mascots
20:39on the sidelines
20:40are a dying breed
20:42but for some reason
20:43I guess the
20:44humane society
20:45or something
20:46made them do away
20:47with that happening
20:48but you know
20:49I thought that was
20:50great
20:50not that humans
20:51dressed as animals
20:52was any more
20:54humane
20:54hi there
20:55how are you
20:55we're a buffalo
21:00what's the matter
21:01with you
21:02holy people
21:03the heat factor
21:05I don't know
21:06how they stay alive
21:07in those outfits
21:08during the game
21:09Captain Fear
21:10is on the field
21:10in Tampa, Florida
21:11on Sundays
21:13in September
21:13when it's
21:15100 degrees
21:16in Raymond James Stadium
21:17and I just hope
21:18to God
21:19that that suit
21:19has central air conditioning
21:25a mascot's supposed
21:26to be stupid
21:27it's supposed
21:28to be silly
21:28human beings
21:29that
21:30are goofy enough
21:32to dress up
21:32in costumes
21:33and parade
21:33around the stadium
21:34that's where it's at
21:35but there's a trend
21:36of just sort of
21:37the big head
21:38like the
21:39I think the Cowboys
21:40had one of these guys
21:41and I think the Patriots
21:42maybe
21:43it's just the big guy
21:44with the kind of
21:45you know
21:45vacant smile
21:46I find those guys
21:47creepy
21:48and they're soulless
21:50and they're not funny
21:51they're just kind of
21:52you know
21:53something's wrong
21:54with that kid
21:56if you want
21:57a football mascot
21:58you know
21:59give me the guy
21:59in Minnesota
22:00who dresses
22:01in the Viking costume
22:02that's what football
22:03is all about
22:10Viking guy is awesome
22:11you gotta come out
22:13of puberty
22:13grow some facial hair
22:15that Viking guy
22:17he's nuts
22:18I poop things
22:19bigger than you
22:20he startles you
22:21you're like
22:22whoa
22:22where'd that guy
22:23come from
22:23I don't know
22:24what he's up to
22:25but he definitely
22:26has my respect
22:27and attention
22:27once you think
22:28you're on top
22:29of the mountain
22:30you're done
22:33the number four
22:35NFL tradition
22:36of all time
22:37end zone celebration
22:38good morning class
22:41this course is
22:42post touchdown
22:43protocol
22:44today we shall
22:45examine the various
22:46techniques available
22:47to you after
22:48a tally in football
22:49it's showtime
22:54watch closely
22:56as there will be
22:56a quiz
22:57immediately following
23:02let me use
23:03this moment
23:03as my soapbox
23:04it is a great
23:05tradition
23:05end zone celebrations
23:06whatever happened
23:07to the good old days
23:08you know what's
23:08the old saying
23:09you know when you
23:10score a touchdown
23:10act like you've been
23:11there before
23:12it's just
23:13it's gotten out of control
23:14this is flat out
23:16embarrassing
23:17I am a fan
23:19of creative
23:20end zone celebrations
23:21I think that
23:22the NFL
23:23has gotten it wrong
23:24I think they're fun
23:25and I know
23:26you hear all these
23:26arguments from the
23:27moralists
23:29disrespects the game
23:30and the history of the game
23:31act like you've been there
23:33act like you planned
23:34on doing it
23:36there's something to be
23:37said for the guy
23:37who scores
23:38and just hands the
23:39ball back to the ref
23:40and there are
23:41like a handful of guys
23:42that still do that
23:43so as long as you've got
23:44a handful of guys
23:44that still do that
23:45I don't mind
23:46the phone calls
23:47the bowling pin thing
23:48you know what
23:49it's entertainment
23:50when it's all said
23:51and done right
23:51we're not on Capitol Hill
23:52passing the budget
23:55it's an emotional game
23:56we better show
23:58some excitement
23:58that's good stuff
23:59that's what we work for
24:00oh baby
24:01can you dig it
24:06end zone celebrations
24:08were not existing
24:09until the Giants
24:10Homer Jones
24:11first spiked the ball
24:12in the 1960s
24:13little did he know
24:15what he would spawn
24:16I think the first one
24:17that really struck me
24:19was Billy White
24:20Shoes Johnson
24:24started with the shoes
24:25and started that thing
24:26in the end zone
24:27but I used to enjoy that
24:29not what had happened
24:30against us
24:30I didn't enjoy it
24:32get up
24:32get up
24:33help me
24:35I was always taught
24:38coming up
24:38act as though
24:39you've been there before
24:40when I first got
24:41into the professional
24:42it just so happens
24:43it was automatic
24:44it was just automatic
24:46and then all of a sudden
24:47that was replayed
24:49more than the touchdown was
24:50and then it snowballed
24:52that will follow him
24:53around for years
24:58once White Shoes
24:59perfected the art
25:00of our number four
25:01NFL tradition
25:02end zone celebrations
25:03grew by leaps and bounds
25:06there are so many
25:07favorites to choose from
25:09one of them I did like
25:10the fun bunch
25:11Washington Redskins
25:12because it involved
25:13a multitude of players
25:14that gathered around
25:15in the end zone
25:16and celebrated together
25:18I like that
25:19I like the icky shuffle
25:20the icky does a one
25:22put a dance
25:23the icky shuffle was great
25:25it was so bad
25:26it was good
25:26it was so weak
25:28it was strong
25:31celebrations jumped the shark
25:32when Joe Horn
25:33pulled that cell phone thing
25:34he went and got the phone
25:36and pretended like
25:36he was making a phone call
25:38to somebody
25:38a lot of people
25:39don't know this
25:40Joe Horn's cell phone call
25:41was out of network
25:43during peak hours
25:44that was
25:45that's what made it so
25:46that made it so great
25:48that's a little too much
25:49right there
25:52they want a show
25:54they're about to get one
25:57to me the best
25:58end zone celebrations
26:00were forged by
26:01Terrell Owens
26:02touchdown 49ers
26:03I did like Terrell Owens'
26:05celebration on the
26:06Dallas Star
26:06because he got hit for it
26:08that was good
26:13to me
26:14it just doesn't get
26:16any better
26:17than Chad Johnson
26:18Chad Johnson
26:19the Mr. Showman
26:20he got on the knee
26:23like he was proposing
26:24to Daphne over there
26:25the best one ever
26:26was when he did
26:27Lord of the Dance
26:29Chad Johnson
26:30doing a dance
26:30in the end zone
26:31that was better
26:32than Michael Flatley
26:33for crying out loud
26:33wait a minute
26:34don't you want to talk
26:35to me about
26:36Sharpies and stuff
26:37come on
26:38Sharpies
26:39are you kidding me
26:40yes we can't sign off
26:42on this segment
26:43without mentioning
26:44the Sharpie
26:45Owens is there
26:45he leaps out
26:46he catches that
26:47into the end zone
26:48touchdown
26:49Terrell Owens
26:50playing out the Sharpie
26:51is still
26:52the most intelligent
26:54and creative
26:56thought
26:56to ever occur
26:57after a touchdown
26:58the only thing wrong
27:00with that whole scenario
27:00when T.O. did that
27:01was that he gave the ball
27:02to his financial advisor
27:04what a letdown
27:05coming up
27:06beer
27:07cooler traditions
27:09is the Gatorade
27:11how can the Gatorade
27:12shower not be
27:13on the lake
27:13oh I'm too cold
27:14this I.D. ritual
27:16began in New York
27:18in the mid-1980s
27:19I think it's become
27:21part of Americana
27:22in sporting
27:23and I think it's a little
27:24passe anyway now
27:25so
27:26because the Gatorade
27:27dunk has become
27:28such a cliche
27:29we couldn't include it
27:30in our top 10
27:31while
27:32thousandler coach
27:33may be played out
27:33the next tradition
27:35on our countdown
27:35is still
27:37in vogue
27:38the number three
27:39NFL tradition
27:40of all time
27:41tailgating
27:41I think you have
27:43to have tailgating
27:44tailgating
27:45defines what
27:46Sunday football
27:47is all about
27:48the recipe
27:49for a successful
27:50tailgate
27:51is a simple one
27:52beer
27:53food
27:55fire
27:56okay that's it
27:57you have to have
27:58all three
27:59you can't bring
28:00cold subs out
28:01and a little bit
28:04of Aquafina
28:09when I think
28:10of tailgate food
28:11I want to give
28:12a big shout out
28:13to the Polish people
28:16and the way
28:16they've taken
28:17grotesque animal
28:18parts and stuffed
28:19them into tubular
28:20shapes
28:20I mean really
28:21without that
28:22and some mustard
28:22we got nothing
28:23out there
28:27tailgating
28:28is not quite
28:29what it used
28:29to be
28:32how do you
28:32expect these
28:33things to cook
28:34they're frozen
28:35stand around
28:35this side
28:36we can keep
28:37the wind off
28:37them
28:39tailgating
28:39should be
28:40you pull up
28:40into a space
28:41you pop open
28:42the trunk
28:42you put out
28:42a grill
28:43throw some
28:43meat on the
28:44grill
28:44open a cooler
28:45have some beer
28:46maybe a folding
28:47chair or two
28:50nowadays
28:50people roll up
28:52in these
28:52specialized vans
28:53and they invite
28:54their friends
28:55they sit in
28:55their parking
28:56lot
28:56they dress up
28:59you spend
29:00hours
29:01about hours
29:02before the game
29:03even gets going
29:04you go watch
29:05the game
29:06and then you
29:06come back
29:06for some more
29:09honestly I think
29:10people now
29:10are just doing
29:11them because
29:11they probably
29:12would better
29:12set up in
29:13the parking
29:13lot
29:13than they do
29:13in their houses
29:16tailgate parties
29:17are a lot like
29:18when you see
29:18the old
29:19Celtic warriors
29:20Braveheart
29:22gathering
29:23before the battle
29:25to charge
29:26themselves up
29:26put on the
29:27war paints
29:27have a last
29:29meal
29:29get focused
29:30get crazy
29:33take your
29:35underwear off
29:37what
29:39so who's number
29:40one at our
29:41number three
29:42tradition
29:42there's nothing
29:44like getting
29:44out of your
29:44car
29:45at Lambeau
29:46Field
29:46and that
29:47smell
29:47everything else
29:49is secondary
29:50I've never been
29:51to Kansas City
29:52and I want to go
29:53because I've always
29:54heard Kansas City
29:55is great
29:59if you've ever
30:00tried Kansas City
30:01barbecue
30:01you'll want to
30:02go and tailgate
30:03in Kansas City
30:04below New York
30:05those people tailgate
30:07like it's their job
30:08like their lives
30:09depend on it
30:14as the years go by
30:15we like to collect
30:16a few relics
30:17you know
30:17from past games
30:18and stuff like that
30:18this is what milk
30:19looks like
30:2016 years later
30:22he's at my rally
30:22pickles
30:24that guy's okay
30:25because he's not
30:26going Gucci
30:28and he's not
30:29going French sauce
30:31this is one of my
30:32favorite relics
30:32this is a potato
30:34chip bag we opened
30:35up during the
30:35greatest comeback
30:36in National Football
30:36League history
30:37I always have
30:38one rally chip
30:39before every game
30:40for good luck
30:42other than maybe
30:43risk of food poisoning
30:44he's probably got
30:45the right idea
30:50so why do people
30:51tailgate anyway
30:52might be another
30:53reason to get away
30:54from the wife
30:55honey I got tickets
30:56to the football game
30:57this weekend
30:57I know you hate
30:58football you don't
30:59want to go
30:59so I'm going to
31:00leave at 6 a.m.
31:02for a noon central
31:03game
31:03why are you leaving
31:04so early
31:05because I got
31:05Billy and Johnny
31:06and Antoine
31:07and all my best
31:08friends
31:08we're going to
31:09hang out in the
31:09parking lot
31:10with a grill
31:11we're going to
31:12cook food
31:12we're going to
31:13have an unbelievable
31:14time
31:17coming up on
31:18top 10
31:18it will be
31:19a tough call
31:20here we go
31:20the number 2
31:21NFL tradition
31:21of all time
31:22Thanksgiving
31:22Thanksgiving
31:23football
31:25Thanksgiving would
31:26not be the same
31:26without football
31:27what else you want
31:28to be doing
31:28on Thanksgiving
31:29rather eat turkey
31:30and hit somebody
31:30in the mouth
31:32to me
31:33Thanksgiving
31:33football is
31:34what I think
31:35of when I think
31:36of the NFL
31:36football just
31:37fits
31:39with your
31:39house
31:40with your
31:41family
31:41with your
31:41turkey
31:42the football
31:43just fits
31:44it's just
31:44part of the
31:44day
31:45Thanksgiving
31:45football is
31:46so good
31:46because you're
31:47giving men
31:47the three
31:48things they
31:48want most
31:49in life
31:49they can eat
31:50they can drink
31:51and they can
31:51watch television
31:53honestly the only
31:54thing wrong with it
31:55is that we have to
31:55watch the Detroit
31:56Lions every year
31:57you get rid of
31:57them
31:57this is the
31:58greatest tradition
31:59and the greatest
31:59holiday of all time
32:02hold on just a
32:04moment
32:04without the
32:05Motor City
32:05our number 2
32:06tradition
32:07wouldn't exist
32:09well it actually
32:10started as far
32:11as the NFL
32:11yeah I'd like
32:12to point out
32:13that
32:16the guy
32:17said
32:20the Lions
32:21guy said
32:22what's better
32:23than eating
32:24some turkey
32:25and hitting
32:25somebody in
32:25the mouth
32:27they proceeded
32:28to get blown
32:28out so
32:29I guess
32:30he didn't
32:31hit many
32:31people in
32:32the mouth
32:36tradition begins
32:37with George
32:38Richards who
32:38was the owner
32:39of the Detroit
32:39Lions in 1934
32:41and he was
32:41looking for a
32:42way to capture
32:43some of the
32:43high school
32:44college atmosphere
32:46in his pro game
32:46the Green Bay
32:47Packers invade
32:48Brick Stadium
32:48for their annual
32:49Thanksgiving Day
32:50battle with the
32:51Lions
32:51so it started
32:53there and it
32:53became a tradition
32:54despite the
32:55popularity of
32:56Thanksgiving football
32:57when the league
32:58looked to add
32:59a double header
32:59in 1966
33:00it proved to be
33:02a tough sell
33:02the NFL
33:03started asking
33:04all of their
33:05teams would you
33:05be interested
33:06in playing a game
33:07on Thanksgiving
33:07Day
33:08would you be
33:09interested
33:09would you be
33:10interested
33:10down the line
33:11they all said
33:12no
33:13and then again
33:13it was Tex
33:14Schram
33:14yeah we'll take
33:16it
33:16and not only
33:17will we take
33:17it but we'll
33:17take it
33:18every Thanksgiving
33:18to satisfy
33:22fans growing
33:23appetite for
33:24big skin
33:25the NFL
33:26stuffed in
33:26a third game
33:27in 2006
33:28I think people
33:30now identify
33:31eating turkey
33:32dozing off
33:33on the chair
33:34and watching
33:34three football
33:35games now
33:38like Thanksgiving
33:39pro football
33:40has also had
33:41its share
33:41of turkeys
33:42in 1993
33:44the best intentions
33:46of Dallas's
33:47Leon Lett
33:48ran a foul
33:59let's blunder
34:00led to the most
34:01infamous second
34:02helping
34:03and helping
34:04in Thanksgiving
34:04football
34:04history
34:09and who
34:11can forget
34:11the 1998
34:12overtime game
34:14between Pittsburgh
34:15and Detroit
34:15and
34:16he
34:16and
34:19he
34:19called
34:20he
34:21said
34:21heads
34:22it
34:22is a
34:22tails
34:23so lucky
34:24I thought he
34:24heard
34:24heads tails
34:25Bettis is out
34:26there yelling at
34:27him
34:27he said
34:28I called
34:28tails
34:28it's tails
34:29the first call
34:30was heads
34:31and so
34:32I went with
34:33what I first
34:34heard
34:34I think Bettis
34:39changed his mind
34:40mid
34:41oh my gosh
34:42that's unbelievable
34:44Bettis may have
34:45changed his mind
34:46but there was no
34:47change in the outcome
34:48snap and the kick
34:49and the Lions
34:50have won the game
34:52when it comes to
34:53traditions
34:54the long-standing
34:55relationship
34:56between the fourth
34:57Thursday in November
34:58and pro football
34:59is truly something
35:01we can all
35:02be grateful for
35:03it's absolutely
35:04a tradition
35:04it's right there
35:05with the turkey
35:06as far as things
35:07that are just
35:08indispensable
35:08to the Thanksgiving
35:09happy Thanksgiving
35:11America
35:13put down the
35:14guacamole
35:15and the chips
35:15when we come back
35:17we'll feast our eyes
35:18on our top
35:19NFL tradition
35:20yay
35:23and now
35:24the number one
35:25NFL tradition
35:26of all time
35:27Super Bowl Sunday
35:28of course
35:30Super Sunday
35:31what a day
35:32like a dream
35:32come true
35:33it's unbelievable
35:34this afternoon
35:36we're going to play
35:36the biggest football
35:37game in the history
35:38of western civilization
35:52this isn't just
35:53football anymore
35:54this is America
35:55a week from Sunday
35:57America's going to
35:58come to a stop
35:59the Super Bowl
36:00Super Bowl Sunday
36:01is still one of the
36:03great American
36:03traditions
36:04forget about football
36:05it's one of the
36:05great things
36:06that and of course
36:07the American
36:07auto finale
36:08our country's
36:09taking care of us
36:10and making sure
36:10we get to see the Super Bowl
36:11this is a part of
36:12America for us
36:12this is the reason
36:13why we're here
36:13to me it's the ultimate
36:14American sporting event
36:16because it's all
36:16about who we are
36:17we like big events
36:20we like spending
36:20lots of money
36:21we like violence
36:22and there it's all there
36:28the debut of our
36:29number one tradition
36:30didn't get off
36:31to a flying start
36:32the Super Bowl
36:34when it first started
36:35you know it was kind of
36:38just what this country needs
36:40another damn football game
36:42but Commissioner Pete Rozelle
36:44was determined
36:45to get people
36:45to change their
36:46crotchety old views
36:48about championship games
36:49I think he saw
36:51his genius was
36:52that we're going to
36:52turn this into
36:53sort of a carnival
37:00the spectacle of it all
37:02was so far
37:03from what it's become
37:04that now it's for everybody
37:06you don't have to
37:06just be a football fan
37:08it's one of those things
37:09that all Americans
37:09can unite
37:10and have something fun
37:12to kind of join together
37:16Super Bowl Sunday
37:17is a great American
37:18tradition where
37:19men and women
37:20come together
37:21to watch football
37:22having separated
37:23the entire year
37:25while watching games
37:26now we're going to hear
37:27women's input
37:28on the game
37:29and uh
37:31that's got to stop
37:36the world does stop
37:38and whether it's to
37:39watch football
37:40or to watch commercials
37:41it's a big party
37:43ah yes
37:43the commercials
37:45I play the other
37:46the what
37:46it's a member
37:47of the woodwind family
37:48a large captive audience
37:50may be an advertiser's dream
37:51but others see it as
37:53one of the not so super
37:54aspects of the game
37:56I have a couple complaints
37:57with Super Bowl Sunday
37:57here I am
37:58I'm going to be the grouch
37:59all right
37:59one
37:59the neutral field thing
38:01kind of to me
38:02always kind of takes
38:03a little bit of the fun
38:03the two week wait
38:05probably a little bit
38:06too long
38:06I could also do without
38:07maybe the 10 hour pregame
38:09what's wrong with neutral field
38:12it's what it's all about guys
38:13it's what it's all
38:14world championships
38:15are all about
38:15well you have to realize
38:16as a football coach
38:18that you are part
38:19of show business
38:19and the Super Bowl
38:21is the greatest show
38:22in the world
38:22and when it comes
38:24to halftime shows
38:25to keep the audience
38:26glued to their seats
38:27you need a bigger
38:29better
38:29a football audience
38:31is going to be
38:318 years old
38:33up to 80 years old
38:34so if you're going to
38:36play at the Super Bowl
38:37you need to be
38:38significant to
38:39generations and
38:40generations of people
38:45this is the Super Bowl
38:48coach
38:48you can't hold
38:48nothing back
38:49weirdest thing is
38:50when you play
38:50in the Super Bowl
38:51you don't actually
38:52experience any of
38:53the Super Bowl
38:54activities
38:54you come here
38:55to work
38:56we've worked harder
38:57than anybody
38:57to get here
38:58nobody can beat us
38:59in a team
39:00and it's worth
39:0170,000
39:02what a big thing
39:04it comes down
39:05to one game
39:06it's not a best of five
39:07not a best of seven
39:08it's nothing like that
39:08it's one game
39:09and if you don't
39:10bring your A game
39:11it becomes
39:12tough pill to swallow
39:15God would come down
39:16right now
39:16Terry what can I do
39:17for you
39:19send me and put me
39:20back in one Super Bowl
39:21and then let me hear
39:22my name over the
39:23loudspeaker
39:24let me hear the roar
39:24of the crowd
39:25Brad Joe
39:26Brad Joe
39:27let me have them
39:28booing on one side
39:29let me get in
39:29and call plays
39:30see the eyes grow
39:31as I call these plays
39:32and talk to them
39:33let me feel the hair
39:34on my back crawl up
39:35I mean that's what
39:36the Super Bowl does to you
39:37back to throw Montana
39:38steps up throw
39:46there's very few
39:47things anymore in America
39:48where everybody can
39:49talk about it the next
39:50day and Super Bowl
39:51Sunday guaranteed
39:53everybody watches
39:55the Super Bowl
39:55everybody has an
39:56opinion so everybody
39:57can gather around
39:58the proverbial campfire
39:59and talk about it
40:00whether it's the
40:01halftime show or
40:02whether it's the game
40:03itself and that
40:04makes it a phenomenal
40:06American tradition
40:09we're champions
40:10of the world baby
40:11they can't take
40:12this from us
40:12and we football fans
40:14will fight very hard
40:15to keep alive all
40:17of the traditions
40:17on our countdown
40:18but as we ride off
40:21into the traditional
40:22victorious storm
40:23of confetti
40:24here's a new tradition
40:25we'd like to propose
40:27I don't know
40:28Mr. Obama
40:29if you're going to see
40:30this but I would
40:31love for you to
40:32consider honoring
40:33my request that we
40:34make the day after
40:34Super Bowl Sunday
40:35a national holiday
40:36over here
40:36to the
40:36it's
40:37an ocean07
40:37do
40:37I
