Transcript
00:00on greg allman fox sports covers the nfl greg nice to talk to you my friend how you doing
00:06doing well guys thanks for having me on hope you're doing well doing good so who are the
00:11bells of the ball when it comes to free agency now that we're on the cusp of it we keep
00:17taking
00:17names off the top it's like you keep having guys get franchised get re-signed and that'll really
00:22continue to be the case here in the next uh five days i guess it is uh but no i
00:27mean i think the
00:27usual names you think about uh trey hendrickson among the past rushers and uh you know kath walker
00:34travis etienne among the running backs um you know some some pretty good offensive linemen some pretty
00:39good defensive linemen in there it's not uh an amazing class but uh and it's the best that's
00:44out there right now is there any name that's surprising to you where you say man i had no
00:50idea or didn't think this team would be willing to let this guy walk
00:57um not glaringly i mean and again they haven't won a walk yet i think there's probably more
01:02activity in the last 72 hours maybe than there is up to this point even so no i mean there's
01:08definitely some right now where um i mean seattle i mean i think seattle is going to get deals done
01:13with some of their i mean they probably about five free agents that are you know we did like a
01:19top 100
01:19list there were easy picks for that um in terms of multiple defensive backs and mafe and walker and
01:26i i think rashid shaheed um i think they'll get things done maybe not with all of them but i
01:32bet
01:32you they have deals with three of them by wednesday at four o'clock when it really is the deadline
01:38when
01:38guys can start signing elsewhere greg uh good to hear from you here um you not only of course cover
01:45the nfl now you've long time covered the tampa bay bucks and mike evans is one of the more notable
01:49names in free agency there's been at least some sense like hey maybe washington's a team he gets
01:54involved with what's your read on mike evans and you know you think he even actually leaves tampa after
01:59all these years yeah i i still i think with mike uh we've kind of done this a couple times
02:04with mike
02:05down here um and i think there's a lot of talk from agents about strongly considering all 32 teams
02:11and the checklist of things he wants i still think the most likely outcome is mike coming back to
02:16tampa um and i start with just mike's been in tampa's entire career his wife his kids this is all
02:23they know um so maybe with the exception of houston where they also have a home which is kind of
02:28close
02:29to home where he is in galveston um short of that i would be surprised if he wants to uproot
02:36family
02:36and and get up and go to a different city and a different team and a different quarterback and a
02:41whole different locker room um he could it again it could happen but i think the most likely thing
02:46is him working out something that lets him feel valued here with the bucks and and close out his
02:50career here in tampa i think evans is hall of fame caliber we'll see how that ends up when his
02:56career
02:56is over but he's 32 and he's had persistent hamstring issues and last year his season was cut short by
03:03the
03:03collarbone injury which is not as bad as a knee so there's that and you know like i said he's
03:0832 so
03:09it's an interesting way to price the guy and if he's willing to i guess give the bucks a bit
03:14of
03:14a break and stay that's probably good for them absolutely i don't think they'll be the high dollar
03:20i mean they kind of went through this with chris godwin a year ago where chris was a an unrestricted
03:25free agent i think the patriots supposedly were offering 30 million dollars a year and came back to
03:29the bucks for 22 a year i mean i think the bucks were willing to guarantee a second year which
03:34other
03:34teams weren't doing for a guy coming off a major injury but um but no it feels a lot like
03:41that he
03:42and chris are real tight they both spent their entire careers here both have had chances to leave
03:46and and just haven't so um you never know it could be one of those where somebody really drops a
03:52hay
03:53maker of an offer at him um i mean mike's the most the highest paid player in bucks history by
03:5840
03:58million dollars you know i mean baker could catch him with a couple good seasons i guess but
04:02um i think he's he's done right by tampa and i think he's beloved here he and levante david are
04:07kind of in that same boat where they play their entire careers here there's a really short list
04:11of people that have done as well as they have and been able to have their whole careers here in
04:15tampa in terms of guys like derrick brooks and ron de barber and you worry that he'll be in the
04:20the group with warren sapp and john lynch that that just finished their career somewhere else
04:25all right let me get to the guy i think he's number four on your list he's often number one
04:29on other
04:29people's list and that's trey hendrickson uh defensive end from the bangles like this is for
04:34a team like washington that desperately needs pass rush you look at a guy that led the league in sacks
04:38in 23 24 but he's also 31 coming off a season where he only played seven games because of injury
04:44and
04:44he's also not miles garrett get sacks but he's not necessarily like that all right everything so how
04:50do you kind of read that marketplace and what he might offer to a team yeah i'll be interested to
04:56see
04:56what the market is i was really happy to see since he not tag him i think that would have
05:00been
05:00awkward and another holdout and a contentious contemptuous summer between those two so i was
05:06happy they just kind of broke up and said okay you know what you can leave um i don't know
05:10it's like
05:10you'll see his valuations as high as somebody had i think three and 99 like 33 million dollars a year
05:16um and maybe a year ago that would have made sense uh but he's coming off a core injury
05:21you know didn't necessarily produce at the same level on a really bad bengals defense
05:26uh so i'll be intrigued i mean i think at at like 25 ish i think it makes a lot
05:31more sense
05:31um i don't know that you'd want to guarantee more than one year and he's probably going to ask for
05:36that um so no i'll be curious i mean he's he's definitely i don't think he's nearly the player
05:41that max crosby is but mac crosby is going to cost you a lot more in terms of not only
05:45acquisition cost
05:46with draft picks but then when they actually sign him he'll be more of a 35 to 40 million dollar
05:50guy so um you know i think it's hard to find the value right now in these second tier
05:56edge rushers um there's a couple of them that are younger than trey that probably had better
06:01seasons than trey last year but haven't had like you said he's got two 17 sack seasons that i think
06:06that somebody was saying on the radio career 13 sack seasons i think there's only four people that
06:11have more than he does so really consistent over a long period of time um you know probably shouldn't
06:17have been let go in the first place when you think about the saint having him and choosing
06:20to keep like marcus davenport instead of him uh but again there's a lot of talk here in florida
06:26because he went to fau he's got a place in ponte vedra where this is home for him i don't
06:30know if
06:31the bucks will be willing to write as big a check as he'll come in in next week greg allman
06:35fox sports
06:36radio or fox sports cover in the nfl also does uh the buccaneers in tampa joining us here on bmitch
06:42and
06:42finley so dj moore dealt today from chicago to the bills do you like it do you love it maybe
06:50not so
06:51much it makes sense we don't know the return yet and i don't even know that it will be substantial
06:55just because dj moore is a pretty well-paid receiver for what he did last year um i like it
07:00for buffalo it definitely gives to watch buffalo in the playoffs last year you wondered how good they
07:05be if they had a real number one receiver because they just didn't um so they're overpaying a little
07:10that i don't think dj moore is playing like a 27 million dollar receiver right now but he fills
07:14that role for them and probably as well as the the best of the available receivers in free agency
07:21which will probably be alec pierce and uh calvin ridley maybe michael pitman those kind of players
07:28um so no i mean here in tampa it takes one suitor off of the mike evans dance card so
07:35people in tampa
07:36are excited to see this trade uh for chicago i think it frees them up a little bit he he
07:41wasn't
07:41going to perform at the same level that he was at when he got that contract i think they've drafted
07:46some talented players in ahead of him now uh but no made sense and and a good move that kind
07:51of
07:51impacts a couple different things as it relates to free agency in coming days greg you know if you
07:56look at washington's needs list it is lengthy they could go in almost any direction but i think the
08:01one position they absolutely have to address in some way is defensive end or edge rusher mentioned
08:06trey hendrickson that's sort of the top of the market i'm curious who else you kind of like in
08:10there you know jalen phillips a lot of production but a lot of injuries there's some other guys who
08:15are in the 26 year old 27 year old range who maybe there's some upside there who for you kind
08:21of stands out if you don't get trey hendrickson where would you go yeah there's definitely some
08:26younger options um that'll probably be more reasonably uh affordable um again we talked about
08:31with seattle being a guy that again i think is productive um you know there's there's definitely
08:36older guys if you're willing to take a risk on a mid-30s guy you've got khalil mack you've got
08:42joey bosa you've got um you know you see bradley chubbs available now so he would make sense for them
08:48as a not necessarily top of market edge rusher but someone who's produced well i don't know that
08:53jalen phillips is going to leave philadelphia he would fall into that uh dafe away with the chargers i don't
08:58know that he's leaving uh los angeles he would be in that next tier where you're not having to spend
09:0330 million on him but you can maybe expect double digit sacks um and i agree it's a position they
09:08have to address whether it's high in the draft or early in free agency i i think last year so
09:14many
09:14people got caught up in in jayden daniels being hurt and and but i really thought that the biggest
09:19drop-off was on defense and and how how hard they fell on that side of the ball oh i'd
09:24say it's a
09:24believe me 10 alarm disaster and we're well aware of it we're trying to scheme up plans to surge
09:31triage that side of the ball so it's not nearly as bad as last year uh aj brown is fascinating
09:37to me
09:38because the eagles seem to greg be making sort of pump fakes like he could be had but i don't
09:45know
09:45what the market is for him and i'm not sure what the eagles would take yeah it's like the early
09:50word
09:50so far it's kind of been that they're asking prices too high and i don't i think people are
09:54aware of the dysfunction there and i think the eagles would do well to move on even if they didn't
10:00get
10:00uh a dollar on a dollar getting back for him i think there's other guys they could go get and
10:06i mean i felt like their receiving depth was a problem last year in that after the one two you
10:11really didn't have anybody else stepping up in their absence of john dobson and johnny wilson
10:16guys like that that just really weren't up to it so i don't think they should trade aj brown
10:21unless they have a thousand yard type that they're ready to bring in if they can get a
10:26romeo dobbs or somebody else in this free agent market probably will cost less than aj brown and i
10:33think should be able to produce more aj brown is is better than his numbers have been in philadelphia
10:38at least last year um but i do think a change would really help him and the team so again
10:44whether
10:45that's is that for a two what does he command in for in a trade return i don't know right
10:50now but i
10:50think i can see this coming week being a week where the asking price drops and they find a match
10:56um we're seeing a lot of trades going on right now where again it's you're inheriting the contract as
11:02much as the player sometimes but if you find a team who has a need and the room to handle
11:07a less than ideal contract um it's not hard to find a partner that way greg i'm going to dip
11:13into
11:13your tampa knowledge again here with a player that's been mentioned a lot here for several
11:19months now and that's rashard white running back now is it because he averages like 52 receptions
11:24a year well i mean that helps but that's not the main reason the main reason is because he played
11:29college football with jaden daniels and anybody anybody who's you know been around that guy
11:33immediately gets lumped into washington but he actually does seem on the surface kind of what they
11:38need where is he in his career do you and do you what do you kind of back do you
11:43think he could be
11:43here uh in washington yeah i can remember rashad white wearing a jaden daniels t-shirt in the locker
11:50room in postgame when jaden was still in college um super super tight yeah really tight and it's there's
11:58very few people i would say like oh he'd love to go play with this guy but i i think
12:02it's a fairly
12:03strong connection there i don't i have no idea uh how washington favors him they obviously they had
12:08a couple different backs that all performed well at times but nobody really consistently and that's
12:13kind of been rashad um if you look at his four-year numbers not a great average in terms of
12:18yards per
12:18carry not a consistent producer of yards but great as a pass catching compliment um the bucks always
12:25trusted him in two minutes as somebody that that just gets the ball and again consistently catches the
12:31ball moves the chains um probably not in every down back um but really nice as a third down back
12:36is a change of pace back i don't know where that prices him at it's probably about five million a
12:41year four five million a year i don't know that i would give him more than that but like i
12:45said in a
12:46running back by committee i think he could be really good carving out a role good in pass protection good
12:52pass catching um and i'll be intrigued to see where he goes it's one of those where he um is
12:57not
12:57coming back to tampa he's been very plain about that uh a couple different times so there's no
13:03worry about the bucks competing for his services but i think he'll have a couple different teams
13:07that you know could use that kind of back and like using their backs out of the backfield
13:10and i'll be curious to see where he lands i think the most fascinating sort of conundrum now in the
13:16nfl
13:17and this free agency period is how do you price brandon aubrey aubrey as agents want 10 million
13:25which is 3 million above what the top of the market for kickers is on the one hand no kicker
13:32is worth
13:32that on the other hand he's got a 70 yard leg legit other kickers are approaching 60 yard legs in
13:39today's modern nfl but a 70 yard leg changes so many dynamics in terms of how you play defense and
13:46everything else body kicks indoors where do you how do you price brandon aubrey as a kicker
13:55yeah i mean i think he definitely deserves to be the highest paid kicker in the game i think that's
13:59unquestioned but he's not even necessarily the longest leg in the nfl i mean cam little was
14:04hitting whatever 68 69 little also has that kind of length he doesn't make it look as effortless
14:09low uh great yeah so i mean but aubrey it's tough like yeah yeah when you get to these postseason
14:15honors it you can look and there's like wow it's like uh chase mclaughlin here in tampa it was like
14:2011 of 12 at one point plus 50 but it's like all right well if aubrey's got 360 yard plus
14:25field goals
14:26that's really hard i mean that's basically once you cross midfield as an offense right you're now in
14:32in points territory and that and that's a value i mean that definitely makes life easier for both
14:36sides of the ball um and and hits consistently enough where like a lot of a lot of teams if
14:42you're
14:42at the plus 45 like i don't know i don't want to try a 63 yarder because if you miss
14:48it they're
14:48getting the ball on your half of the field but he's good enough where you don't even really have
14:51that risk so it's hard to quantify that um kicker's one of those positions where even if we talk about
14:57the highest paid kicker in the nfl we're talking about seven million dollars a year there will be
15:01bad number three receivers that get that guaranteed next week um that don't necessarily change a game
15:07so i think there's a value for i mean for the coaches that can look at the analytic side of
15:14things and say wow what this guy does for us in terms of how far do we have to get
15:18to generate points
15:19he changes that map for every nfl team so i i don't know that dallas is going to let him
15:24go i think
15:24he knows he's in a good situation in terms of where he gets to kick there uh good stadium to
15:30kick in good offense to kick with i just think it's working out the math of all right and i
15:35mean
15:35i think seven was supposedly the initial offer and somebody had reported seven five and had to issue
15:40like a public rebuke that it wasn't seven five we're not paying them that much right so there's
15:46there's some silly nastiness going on with this specific dollar values being floated right now but i
15:50think if you went to not to be the mediator here but if you said you know three years at
15:55eight
15:55million you guarantee two i think both people would be happy with that and i don't think anybody
16:00would reset that as the highest paid kicker in the league for two years so i think that's probably
16:06what happens jerry has to mangle every public contract he has oh absolutely that's what he does
16:13i think i think they'll have him a they'll tender him so high that no one will touch the tender
16:18because
16:18you have to give up a first round kick to get a kicker and then b i think they'll work
16:22out something
16:23that has him paid well where he's their guy for whatever the next three years greg allman a-u-m
